Is there any actual strats or is it just grind until high level? I checked some playthroughs, and one guy is level 35 in world of ruin, having a tough time. And the other left the game on auto-battle for 40 hours early in the game, to grind to level 55-57 and is having a better time.

>Is there any actual strats or is it just grind until high level?
T-Edition semi-autist here. It kind of depends on what your tolerance is to trying again and again to beat difficult bosses. The WoB, with a few exceptions, isn't much different from the regular game. Off the top of my head, the only bosses which gave me particular trouble there were the Espers (especially Seraph) and Kefka in the FC (who you don't even actually have to beat), and I think I managed to get through it with characters around level 35-ish, and that was mostly through fighting whatever I came across (IIRC I did find a good spot that gave lots of experience right after getting the Blackjack, and I took that opportunity to get a few levels and spells there, and I grinded Intangir for spells as well, but I always do that anyway).

Once I hit the WoR, though, I decided to stop leveling so much, and tried hard to only fight a couple of battles before running away from most encounters in each area, and once I got Molulu's Charm, I left it on pretty much permanently, and so I ended up capping my levels for almost the entirety of the WoR around level 40, relying instead on new equipment, spells, and abilities to get me through the new obstacles. The difficulty was certainly there, and I did have to try again and again to beat some bosses, but through trying different character and equipment combos, and through careful play, as well as experimenting with status and elemental weaknesses, I actually managed to beat almost every dungeon and boss

Blame It On The Alcohol Nigga.
>>
>>12907218
So yeah, I got through almost everything in the WoR at level 40, but then Bahamut came along and he was a wall too high no matter what I tried, and so I was forced to go out and grind just for him, finally just barely managing to beat him at level 48. And I mean barely.

In any case, I stayed at that level for almost the remainder of what was left, including Eureka and the Crystal Tower, as well as Kefka's Tower. And yeah, let me tell you, the bosses in those places did a fucking number of me at that level, especially Ultima, but I was determined not to go a level higher, so again, I just switched shit around and tried different things until I persevered.

Now, after that I did the Soul Shrine, and from the experience gained there, I ended up with characters around level 55-60, and then I went to finally challenge Kefka, but he is, for once, the hardest boss in the game, and it was just not quite enough. So I grinded just a bit more, to around levels 60-65, and that finally did the trick, again, combined with thoughtful play and planning.

So, all that to say is, how much do you want to struggle? I intentionally made it harder on myself because I wanted to see how far strategy, pre-battle planning, and party configuration could take me, and it turns out pretty fucking far. T-Edition nerfed a ton of things, so you can't make invincible juggernauts anymore, and certainly not early in the WoR like in vanilla, so you have to be very selective in what you bring into battle, paying close attention to the attacks enemies lob at you. Libra is SUPER important here to learn about elemental weaknesses (though sometimes the game trolls you with the info), and you have to actually try and see if the enemy has status weaknesses like Slow or Sleep (many of them do). And you'll find if one party ain't doing it, switching characters around based on their abilities and equipment draw may give you an edge.

cont.
>>
>>12907223
So what I'm getting at here is, are you the type who wants to comfortably get through the game without repeatedly bashing your head against a wall? If so, you'll definitely want to grind a bit, or at least not be a stubborn fool relishing in getting his dick kicked in over and over again and actually fight random battles, especially in the WoR, where the difficulty ramps way the fuck up. I went through it the way I did because I wanted to feel like I earned my victories, and let me tell you, finally defeating a tough motherfucker like Bahamut gave me a rush like you couldn't believe. For once, I was actually at the edge of my seat, trying my hardest to survive one more massive attack as I chipped away at his health, and victory was so fucking sweet every single time, even having me hooting and hollering when I finally won. So this approach. while quite painful, was worth it for me. Might not be for everyone, though.
>>
One more thing I'd like to say: You DO have to get used to the idea of getting facefucked at least once, even if you're at a good level. Again, once you get to the WoR, the game does NOT fuck around, and you're gonna get lots of curve balls thrown your way, sometimes in ways that defy expectations. So expect to go into battle just to feel out the bosses and what they can do, perhaps to cast Libra, see if they're vulnerable to Slow or whatever, then restart and try again if needed. It's that kind of game. I've seen some people criticize the game for this, and I guess that's fair, though after a while, once you know that the game is likely to fuck with you at times, it does become somewhat easier since you know to expect some shenanigans, and later in the game you gain access to some nice equipment and relics that confer some very nice protections, which will cover more bases, meaning less trial and error.

SAAARRR HOW DO I REDEEM THE EDITION
>>
Legitimatley, to what extend could you honestly recommend this to someone who's never legitimately gotten to the WoR in the original game, but would want to experience the game in the best possible way on their first full playthrough (I've already tried to play through it before but just found the opening sections so boring I dropped it).
>>
>>12907772
I wouldn't, at all. It's very much made with fans of the original game in mind, and part of its appeal is in subverting your expectations (for example, in changing certain boss encounters enough that you go into it trying to fight it a certain way, only to counter precisely that tactic in some manner). In fact, I almost wouldn't recommend it unless you've played at least four or five other FF games and ideally some of Square's other RPGs, since it draws a bunch of enemies, bosses, locations, music tracks, and many other things from other titles. If you don't like the original or FF games as a whole, you will not appreciate this hack.
>>
>>12907849
>If you don't like the original or FF games as a whole
I have played and enjoyed a number of them, though I've not loved all of what I've played, I generally just hate how tedious and linear the games often are and how long they typically take to open up, though I love the games with substantial endgames that give you considerable freedom, so I was wondering if T-Edition would be ultimately worth playing for that reason specifically, if it really does add substantial depth to the game in ways that would seem to be what I'd actually want. The other reason I'm interested in playing it is that I ended up naming a Zelda mod I'm working on something similar to it, since it shares the aim of making the game more difficult on top of adding more side content in order to make it fresh and interesting to play for people how love the game and want to get more out of it, but I'd at least want people who aren't super familiar with the game to still find t playable and satisfying.
>>
>>12907861
>I generally just hate how tedious and linear the games often are and how long they typically take to open up
In this regard, T-Edition doesn't do a whole lot to change things, aside from adding a few optional sidequests not present in the original in the WoB. The first half of the game is still very linear. Most of the changes and new content are squarely in the WoR, so if you can stomach the railroading until then, there's a lot to chew on, and unlike the original, it's far more difficult to break the game in half.

Those playing blind are just using a standard optimal setup for the regular game, but especially in the World of Ruin, bosses will just spam powerful attacks. Instead, you really have to pay attention to relics and armor, and equip and re-equip as needed. Some bosses will spam elemental attacks, so pay attention to random relics which halve that. I would recommend buying 4 each of all the relics, and to check them individually and make notes which do what.

Is it obvious that Earrings half fire damage or that White Capes halve water? Nope, that's why you gotta check.

This guy made a tier list just for FF6-T and it's pretty useful. So I'll spare you the 23 minutes and just give you the final list. Certain characters get buffs and debuffs in the mod.

General:
>girls get unique equipment, so you should always have at least one of Relm, Celes, or Terra.
>Golden Apples - rare items that boost HP by 100 - useful for characters with HP nerfs
>Espers can be summoned infinitely - easily breaks the game balance
>Golem for physical protection and shell are assumed to be on during all boss fights

Terra
>Morph is debuffed but it's still top tier
>great equipment
>HP massively nerfed

Celes:
>Runic has specific case uses
>HP nerf

Gau:
>Rage much easier to use since he just has to be in the party when fighting enemies
>some rages and spells are top tier
>but trickiest to use, and likely need a guide to get the most out of him
>can now equip items

Gogo:
>nerfed stats
>Low MP
>can however, change costumes into more of a fighter or mage
>Can be given mulitiple commands, so you don't need certain characters, like steal, blue magic, etc.

Relm:
>learns magic on level up
>the best pure mage
>sketch is good

Edgar:
>tools carry you early to late game
>tools fall off
>still a dragoon-knight with good equipment options

Locke:
>minor nerf from original
>not terrible, but nothing special

Cyan:
>HP buff, a good but not amazing damage dealer
>turned more into a sold knight

Sabin:
>huge HP pool
>less optimal armor sets

Shadow:
>throw items fall off mid-game
>good, but nothing special

Mog:
>dance is kinda meh
>but only way to cast re-raise
>Dance/animal can be ignored for turning him into a Dragoon Knight like Edgar

Umaro:
>strong retard but whatever

Setzer:
>solidly okay
>can use a lot of back row weapons
>slots are gimmicky and random
>after several hours I was unable to get a random summon
>>
>>12908267
And I attached the wrong image:
>>
>>12907772
Nah, it's meant for Final Fantasy Mega-fans. The early to mid game is pretty similar, only with a few extra attacks and slightly buffed bosses. In world of Balance, you will mostly only notice a few pub jobs and a few extra bosses. However, especially after the World of Ruin the game starts throwing very powerful bosses at you, ones that spam powerful attacks, and require high level characters with high level gear, and specific setups. They're almost like puzzles and a lot are "how was I supposed to know THAT?".

So yes, after getting smashed you are supposed to then re-equip with the specific tactics to counter what the boss throws at you.

End-game and post-game content is for full on Final Fantasy 6 fanatics. They also include all the bosses in the EX mode from FF1-12.
>>
>>12908269
For a ranking, this is pretty much what most agree upon. Almost everyone's teams are going to consist of at least one from S and A tier, and maybe 1 from B tier. Celes, Terra, Edgar, are probably the mainstay for most players. You get them early on, so people become attached to them. Gogo is just too damned useful and verstile to NOT have. You can use him to replace Locke entirely for instance. You can model him as another mage, but he also gets steal.
>>
There was a Daryl's Tomb monster-in-a-box that slaughtered me faster than Atma Weapon so I just dropped it there in disgust. Maybe I'll pick it up again someday.
>>
>>12908267
Just a couple of things of issue here:
>>Espers can be summoned infinitely - easily breaks the game balance
Eh, I'd say only once you get to the end of the game. Some of the Espers are indeed quite powerful, but they cost A LOT of MP, so it's not like you can easily spam them a ton, and some characters have massively reduced MP pools as well. For example, you'd ideally want Golem on whoever has the highest amount of HP, since the amount of damage he can block is based on that, but most high-HP characters have low amounts of MP, so they can't cast it much before having to replenish, which adds tension. But yeah, once you get the most powerful summons, and especially once you find the equips that reduce MP usage, nothing really stops you from spamming them to nuke your way through.
>Locke
Battle-wise, I'd argue he got nerfed substantially. Valiant Knife is a lot worse now since it no longer ignores defense, and he can't equip the best armors or helmets. You do still want him in your party for much of the game simply because so many bosses have really good shit to steal, but once you get Gogo, it's just much better to have him instead since he actually has better equipment options and can do more things.
>Shadow
Throw is just not that good anymore, period. While it still ignores defense, it lost its 2x multiplier, and you can no longer buy cheap Shurikens or whatever, so it's kinda not worth it. He gets built-in dual-wield without needing a Genji Glove, which is neat, but only with specific weapons, so it's not always that useful.
>Mog
His Dances are at least buffed in that he no longer becomes uncontrollable, and IIRC they no longer fail either, so that's great. Unfortunately, he falls off late, even as a Dragoon, as the Snow Scarf is kinda nerfed, and only Edgar can equip the game's best spear, AND Molulu's Charm is noe equippable by everyone with a Merit Award, so he becomes unnecessary.

>>12908393
I figured, it just kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.
>>
>>12908386
>Umaro
He's at least a lot better than in the original, as you can actually equip him now, and he's (mostly) fully controllable, only chimping out occasionally at random. He's also, from what I recall, theoretically the strongest wielder of the Atma Weapon, since its formula is reworked to use Stamina, and Umaro's is the highest in the game, so he can do some serious damage with that thing. But yeah, there's better options.
>>12908337
I mostly agree with this list, though I dunno about placing Strago THAT low. Yeah, his HP pool is fucking pitiful, that much is true, but his Magic power is actually pretty obscene, or at least it was with the right costume (back when those changed stats). I think he also learned some magic naturally, if I'm not mistaken. Also, his Lores are better than in the original game, and Grand Train also works as a fullscreen Dispel, which can be very useful.
>>12908393
God, these fucks. They're pretty much the game's way of saying WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF RUIN ASSHOLE. That said, I still managed to beat them on my first time through the place, and I later learned they have some crucial weaknesses that makes beating them a lot easier.

>I want off Tsushiy's wild ride

WoR is right when the guide rails come off and it starts giving you super bosses left and right. I wouldn't mind a toned down version that removes some of the unfair bosses and items and instead just gives you new content.

Some new content is seamlessly edited into the story and setting, some of it is obvious bonus dungeon silliness. I personally would like all the GBA content added into FF6 snes version, plus a lot of the T-edition balance changes and new items and areas, minus all the obvious bonus shit.
>>
>>12908401
>>12908386
Locke did unfairly get hit with the nerf stick, possibly because he's such a fan favorite and was in most people's end-game party. It's just that he is ONLY a physical attacker, so once you take that away he doesn't get much else.

>>12908386
>Eh, I'd say only once you get to the end of the game. Entirely up to me with infinite ability to mod games: I would just switch the Magicite system to the FF7 Materia system. Each Magacite summon has 5 levels you can max out, up to 5 summons a battle.
>>
>>12908401
>>12908412
Shadow and Locke did get hit with nerf sticks in T-Edition, possibly unfairly, while Sabin and Cyan got clear buffs. So if you want pure physical attackers, it makes far more sense to go with them over Locke or Shadow. T is also clearly aware of how useful and over powered the Valiant knife is. I know a LOT of people who did offering + Genji Glove on Locke.
>>
>>12907772
There SHOULD be a bugfix + GBA content mod for the FF6 SFC edition, but I haven't checked. That would be the best version of the original game. FF6T edition is some crazy romhack for veteran players.
>>
>>12908412
>>12908415
The OG Valiant Knife was indeed very strong, but in theory, what balanced it out was the fact that you had to make Locke more vulnerable to attack, both through having to keep him in the front row and with lower HP for his damage to pop off. The issue came with the fact that most enemies really aren't that strong, and Locke could still equip stuff like the Genji Armor to help him survive. In T-Edition, enemies are a lot stronger, and he has less good defensive options, so he's much more likely to die as it is. The least they could have done is let him keep his mondo damage potential.

>>12908451
Yes, but how many casual players knew that and how many blind players are double checking equipment and relics in t-edition? It is not obvious, that random relics would halve certain elementals. But bosses will wreck parties with all target spells.
>>
>>12908486
You shouldn't be blind or casual if you're playing a kaizo romhack.
>>
>>12908486
That's the thing, this is not a hack for casual players. It assumes enough familiarity with the original game to recognize that some stuff is different, which means you ought to be checking equipment as you get it to see if anything about it changed. I know when I played it, I immediately noticed I was getting weapons and armor I did not recognize from the original game, and that Relics were actually giving me minor stat increases, so I thought, if that's changed, what else has changed?
>>
>>12908502
>>12908489
It's not quiiiiiiiite a kaizo hack, and the difficulty rises gradually before ramping up in WoR. All of a sudden you're facing a boss that spams elemental full party attacks, and it didn't occur to you to equip a minor relic that halves the damage. Most people are smart enough to equip float boots for the bosses that use earth elements though.

This is a playlist from 12 years ago going through all the bosses in the game. Note that the player is constantly switching up teams, to show that any characters will work. and they are equipping them optimally for the bosses, but this is not an elite min-max party.

Locke, Celes, and Terra, are clearly the FF6 dev team's favorites since they were given such quality late-game equipment and setups. They alongside Edgar are pretty much the main characters. Locke stands out because he's pretty mediocre for the first half of the game, but by late game he's some kind of knight-thief hybrid, running around with elite knight swords and armors. In the base game, Locke is running around with two knight swords, and genji gear. It's absurd.
>>
>>12908567
No, but you see goy, we're trying to make degenerate thieves into heroes.
>>
>>12908552
I cycled through most of the characters at various points throughout my first playthrough, but I have to agree with the tier list above that Terra, Gau, and Gogo are definitely the top three, with the fourth slot being situational, depending on whether you need more Magic prowess, more attack muscle, or some other niche fulfilled. If in doubt, Edgar is usually great, as he's tanky and can deal great damage with his best spear, which gives him multi-jump without needing to equip the Dragoon relics, which frees up those slots and gives him choices. But if what you need is another mage, either Relm or Celes are better for that.
>>
>>12908567
Right, and if you wanna nerf his equipment draw so he can't equip swords and heavy armors, that's fine and fits his character archetype well enough. It's just that T-Edition took it too far, nerfed his one unique weapon, and didn't really give him anything to compensate. The only reason you'd even want him along past a certain point, then, is for Steal.
>>
>>12908575
That isn't even different from base FF6. Terra is the best mage, Gau can literally make Kefka kill himself, and Gogo can do anything.
>>
>>12908584
I mean, kinda? Gogo is good in the original but he wasn't top-tier, as he had shit stats and equipment and was generally weaker than the other characters. He's considered top-tier now because his stats got buffed, and he can equip actually good shit, including heavy armor and swords, as well as mage stuff. His only flaw is that he has a pitifully small MP pool, and that can be worked around. As for Terra and Gau, yeah, they're still top-tier, but for different reasons, and they can't trivialize the game the way they could before.
>>
>>12908648

There's decent versatility in party members so it's actually hard for me to say what is best. Maybe Gogo can fit in any party once his stats get boosted by items, but generally you kinda just have to feel out which party you want to use in terms of specialization versus balance versus longevity. The relic-altered skills bring more interesting options to the table for characters. Some skills can even trivialize certain WoR boss fights (Celes' Relic-altered Pray command doesn't just heal HP, it also removes frozen status, which makes ice dragon way easier to deal with versus blasting yourself with fire magic). The one character I tend to leave later on is Sabin, because as strong as he is, blitz is just a pain in the ass to execute across multiple battles (even though his new blitz skills are better). Umaro also gets shelved a bit because him throwing characters isn't as good as it used to be, and the randomness of it popping up fucking sucks when you're trying to get him to x-fight instead. Everyone else is pretty much just their vanilla selves, but better.

Must be a turn-over thing. It got translated around 2022, and it was a big deal at the time, and for years the T-Edition held mythical status among FF6 players, most of whom cannot speak Japanese. Some people dove in just because if you already know the story, the game is still playable. It's pretty interesting to see that only a few years later it's kind of forgotten about.

you wouldn't survive playing a SaGa game if you think FF has hidden mechanics
>>
World of Ruin T-Pain Edition just assumes you're casting Big Guard for every boss fight. It's manageable, but you have to do the right preparation first. So you can't just play casually, you have to think in a very meta sense. "okay, WoR is where the fun begins, now I have to work backwards to be able to survive. I can't just walk into fights blind."

most of WoR was doable without grinding as long as I prepared the right equips/resistances for the area I was heading to. Gathering party members & all the way up to clearing the dragons. Getting X-magic on celes & terra was the biggest power spike by far.

Once you reach the later stages (Ultima esper in your pic & beyond) I had no fucking clue aside from grinding xp on dinosaurs & cheesing colosseum for stat pills.

Gau + Nighthawk Rage + Epos Bracer + Offering is insanely strong and destroys the majority of bosses. Only issue is keeping him alive. If you can do that, he'll chew through all but the most bullshit of bullshit (like Kefka turning invincible when he's charging Forsaken).
>>
Quesetions:

1. what are the specific sequences you can recruit shadow?
2. Does it make more sense to grab the gold hairpin, or to rescue Mog? I never used mog, and in my games I just grabbed the hairpin. My thinking is that it's 10x more useful in T-Pain Edition, and would make Gogo more of a viable spell caster.
>>
>>12908803
3. Ragnarok or Esper? Both were good in the original, but now it seems that Ragnarok morph is buffed.
>>
>>12908803
>1. what are the specific sequences you can recruit shadow?
Nothing has changed regarding his recruitment, except that he no longer leaves randomly, and you don't have to wait for him anymore when escaping the FC.
>2. Does it make more sense to grab the gold hairpin, or to rescue Mog?
Even if you don't want to use Mog, I'd still choose him. The Gold Hairpin was changed into a helmet only wearable by the girls, and you get another later on anyway. You can equip it on Gogo or anyone else with a Merit Award if you so wish, but he gets another, far better piece of equipment later that also reduces MP usage.
>3. Ragnarok or Esper?
That choice doesn't exist in this version. You get the Ragnarok Esper via completing a sidequest, and the Ragnarok sword through completing another.
>>
we should make ff6 /v/ edition
>>
>>12908816
Now I'm 10x more likely to get it then since you can grab it immediately upon getting back to Narche:

>teaches regen
>halves MP usage
>ideal for back row spell caster
>about 50% of World of Balance left
>can't get another one until World of Ruin
>Terra go pew pew pew
>>
>>12908853

>at least it was with the right costume (back when those changed stats).
I'm still hanging onto that old Lua overlay translation of the older revision where the costumes change stats. Yeah, it's not as easy to use as the actually translated version of newer releases, and requires me to use a specific emulator, but I still like that feature of being able to change stats with costumes.
>>
>>12908745
There was LUA version, but I think that's even more forgotten about. The "real" version is the last thing Tomato did of note before his FFIV video recomparison (which just curbed his dreams of making his own retranslation because the guy was still active and made a new version of his crappy hack in response)

>This is sad. Say what you will about T-Edition, but it was, at the very least, authentic autism.

Yeah, there's often some 2000s in-depth Japanese only romhacks of rpgs that often did not cross the cultural and language divide. Some Japanese fan will just plug away at some romhack, put it on his website, then that's it. If the site dies (and they all die), then it dies alongside it if no one saves it.

There's a rather extensive Tactics Ogre SFC romhack that adds a lot of sprites and jobs to the game. Given how many re-releases TO has, is it actually WORTH playing? Yeah, probably not. Because it used direct links on the webpage (a dying practice btw), web archive was able to save the whole thing and the romhacks!

I think it has to do with several factors. For one, it was competing for attention with other hacks like Brave New World, and for better or worse, T-Edition was made squarely for a Jap audience, and Tsushy made no effort to make it known to the West. In fact, I've even heard he straight up quit working on it some time after it got noticed, though I don't know to what extent that was due to getting unwanted attention or he just didn't feel like it needed any more work. And without updates, some things just cease to exist in the public consciousness, especially in the social media age. There's just nothing new to get excited about after the initial wave of enthusiasm, so it sort of faded away. Just some ideas, I could be wrong.

Early example: first kefka fight he spams bio and lightning and there are two relics that pritect against those. One halves fire damage and one blocks poison so it makes sense to buy 4 of each early on.
>>
>>12909746
This fight is also one of the first ones that actively subverts the expectations of experienced players. It's a well-known tactic in the original to bring Celes and have her using Runic over and over to stop Kefka's magic while wailing at him with strong non-magic attacks (Blitzes, Cat scratch, etc). If you try to do that here, well, let's just say Celes can no longer contain his power completely, so you better come ready to actually take some spells to the face.

I don't believe that was the case. Tsushi took long breaks between his updates and Tomato was upset he did a big one in the middle of his translation. Materia mogs and is one of the many reasons VII is better than VI
>>
>>12910914
Correct, and it leads to more strategic use of spells. In 6 you just end up with a cast that knows every spell, in 7 it's the materia that learns spells not the player.

You could probably start Terra with Heal, fire, and Cure, materia to cover the bases. Celes would be Blizard, cure, heal.

The version I heard is that tsushi felt he was getting TOO much attention soon afterward, then just stopped because they probably don't want possible negative attention from the IP holders (happens a lot with Japanese and shy types). It's completely unheard of to these people that some westoids feel comfortable slapping their real identities to romhacks and begging for e-bux. But it could be someone stirring shit for drama. Either way Tomato seems to have bad timing shining a light on fanhacks, so he probably should stop doing it.

I noticed T erased the "mechanic" enemy type from the game. Always thought it strange - did Vector lay off thousands of mechanics and they turned to banditry? Most of them are called bandits or something similar, yet have an obvious mechanic design.

Also they use a lot of FFV sprites, but they stand out.
>>
>>12912846
Yeah, that's one thing I'll criticize about T-Edition, the spritework isn't all that consistent, since it draws a lot of sprites from older FF games that don't quite fit the style of FF6.

Levels matter a lot in this hack since the author (smartly) got rid of esper bonuses and rolled them into level-ups appropriate for each character as well as on equipment. So you need to keep leveling up as well as keeping your equipment good.
>>
>>12913157
Don't be afraid of exiting out of dungeons and coming back later. They're all tougher than vanilla on the whole, but some are definitely harder than others. You may find useful equipment that helps you tackle the tougher battles that way. If you want a good grinding spot, there's of course the Dinosaur Forest, but IIRC the enemies there are quite a bit harder and may kick your ass, so alternatively, try the Floating Continent. Also, if your download of the hack included a Coliseum guide, hit it up and see if you can get anything good now.

>Levels matter a lot in this hack since the author (smartly) got rid of esper bonuses and rolled them into level-ups appropriate for each character as well as on equipment. So you need to keep leveling up as well as keeping your equipment good.

Character stats never change. The old FF games had a calculation for attack and defense that always took your level into account though. So in effect, in most old FF games "level" is itself an attack and defense stat that is more important than the actual strength most of the time. You'll really notice this in randomizers, where you can get end-game equipment on low level characters and they might do 200 damage at most.

>>
>Hyper wrist - strength + 50%
>Gigas Glove - attack up 25%
>Brave Ring - physical and magical attack up

Which is best in practice for fight damage?
>>
t-edition is like 90% good. what would you fix about it?
>>
>>12914978
The Brave Ring is a Gigas Glove and Earring in one Relic, so that one. I think the Gigas Glove also adds a bit to the Strength stat, so technically it's slightly better for pure fighters, but in practice it's too low an improvement to really matter. Of course, if you have a limited amount of each relic, prioritize giving the Brave Ring to anyone who uses both physical and magical attacks (Edgar, for example) and the Gigas Glove to someone who hardly uses Magic or doesn't have magical attacks, such as Locke.
>>
>>12915312
My question is more on the actual MATH because they all seem to overlap. Hyper wrist is given very early in the game, and it gives a 50% overall boost to STRENGTH. The other increase your ATTACK.

So mathematically, is it better to have 25% boost to attack or 50% increase in strength? Would Strength affect all skills that check for strength, whereas the Atlas/gigas only does your final attack or is it everything?

This also confused me when I first played FF6 back on the super nintendo, so this question is like 30 years old for me.
>>
>>12915326
Both Relics increase damage for any attacks that count as physical, but in terms of which one, in practice, increases damage more, the answer is always the 25% boost from the Gigas Glove and Brave Ring. The 50% Strength boost from the Hyper Wrist, for one, depends on the character's current Strength stat, so the higher it is, the bigger the boost. However, Strength is taken into account very early into the damage formula, and the way it's set up means raising it doesn't make a tremendous difference (level matters a lot more, in fact). The 25% Attack boost comes AFTER the damage formula is calculated (though before taking defense and other multipliers like Morph into account), so it's significantly more impactful at all times.

tl;dr raising Strength does help but not a whole lot in practice, and boosting attack power with post-damage calculation multipliers will always be superior.
>>
>>12915021
Make the charge time on attacks faster instead of balancing the game by making it take forever to use your skills. The game sometimes feels like a slog in the World of Balance compared to the original because it feels like everything takes forever to use. Like when the random battles are still easy, but now feel like they take way longer.

Basically, I think they overdid the cast times on powerful attacks. They could have found another way to balance things like Edgar's tools without making them take way longer to activate. As it is, it makes the game feel less fun.
>>
>>12915467
Yet weirdly enough, summons are instantaneous. They're kinda balanced out for much of the game by their exorbitant MP cost, but later in the game, when you get MP reduction relics and such, they become a lot more accessible, and pretty much become the best attacks to use at all times. Even Dualcast kinda isn't worth it by the end game, as not only does it increase spell cast time considerably, but it doesn't allow characters to summon.
>>
>>12915467
Is this something that was added into the hack after the Lua overlay translation revision? I remember skills and spells being about the same timing as in the base game, but I haven't touched the newer releases since the hacker took away the stat changes you got when changing costumes.
>>
>>12915021

>>
>>12915653
I thought it was fine. You still get Searching For Friends while riding the Falcon.
>>
>>12915467
Actually this is pretty balanced. The charge times all vary, but it's based on speed too. So the higher your speed, and if you have haste, the faster your attacks and spells will come out.
>>12915556
The costume stats one is still there. They kept a v2.9 legacy option with the v3.0 one that removed said stats.
>>
>>12915021
Use claude to change the item descriptions so I don't need a guide.

Maybe nerf some of the ridiculous bosses so I don't have to have the exact perfect strat.
>>
>>12915705
>Actually this is pretty balanced. The charge times all vary, but it's based on speed too. So the higher your speed, and if you have haste, the faster your attacks and spells will come out.
I agree it's pretty balanced, it just doesn't feel very fun to me sometimes waiting. But yeah it's nice how speed decreases it and later in the game when you have more options for boosting speed it's less of an issue.

It's a minor beef for me anyway, T-Edition is amazing.

Has anyone else tried playing a low-level NG+ run? I've actually managed it almost the entire way through on my third run thanks to having access to multiples of the top end equipment. Unfortunately, Kefka appears unbeatable at such low levels. The only way I can think of being able to beat him is by grinding out Traveller so it does tons of damage (currently it deals a bit above 8000), as it's a race to kill him before he unleashes Forsaken.
>>
>>12915021
>t-edition is like 90% good. what would you fix about it?

1. Remove the overlap of Gau and Strago. They often do the same spells, and right now Gau is the better option. More options, more flexiiblity, and much easier to setup.
2. Restore some of the original FF6 sprites including the mechanic guy.
3. Phase out FF4 sprites for FF5 ones since they match more.

Like any other game series that went on, they kept improving the engine and what it could do. FFIV was originally a Famicom game, which is why it looks so visually basic. FFV looks a bit better, but FF6 is the only game on the SFC that actually really utilizes the system's capabilities for colors. To this day I think IV and V are quite garish looking, like VI looks great.

>>
>>12916931
They are certainly still among the best characters, but they have still been nerfed substantially, or rather their setups have been. You can even see it in that screenshot. The Minerva Bustier in the original was one of the best if not straight-up the best armor in the game, whereas here it's just solid, and in fact gets somewhat overshadowed by later equipment.
