do you like da grindan game?
I made this thread because I want to complain about early game specialist/innocent collecting. One of the most tedious, boring parts of the game for me but it has to be done otherwise late game grindan will take over 4x as long. Even with a party setup that can get through most item world floors in one turn it's still really annoying. I know Disgaea 5 makes it a lot easier to get innocents since you can literally farm them and every game after D1 fixes the shitty item world generation that can softlock you, but I want to beat Baal on Disgaea 1 before moving on to the next games.
>>3763566Are you going for just normal/Prinny Baal or are you going to fight Etna mode Baal too?
>>3763595Just normal Baal and maybe Etna mode Baal if he's not much stronger. I don't think I have the patience for Prinny Baal seeing how he has almost triple the base stats. So far I just unlocked CoO-3, so the real grinding can begin.
>>3763566Didn't read, you made this thread to discuss your love for girls than cannot legally give consent. I will discuss the subject of your thread instead, get fucked.I like grinding only if it's not necessary. If it's a reward for investing extra unneeded time into the game. I like the feeling of being in easy mode not because I chose the option in a menu but because I spent hours grinding. And also if the grinding itself is fun or if you can easily do something else while doing it.In Dragon's Dogma I used to be completely broken for where I was in the story because I had spent 100 hours running around killing goblins and wolves. In WoW vanilla and classic I would play paladin and watch videos or post on forums at the same time. I would do the Deadmines at like level 23 just because I spent so long mining stuff and killing mobs while doing something else.
>>3763606Etna Baal is at the max level with geo panels boosting him. Still it and Prinny Baal aren't too bad if you nab the super robo suit from regular Baal and make a set of them at the max level.
>>3763628Sir this is a Disgaea thread, your post about Dragons Dogma and WoW is not the subject of this thread.
>>3763632>nab the super robo suit from regular Baal and make a set of them at the max levelI always figured that the point of fighting Baal was to get the robo suit (other than being the ultimate boss).Should I also bother perfecting them with certain stats or is just getting them to item level 100 good enough?
>>3763636Level 100 with the same rarity should be more than enough, but if you find you have the innocents to slap on to boost it further, the go ahead. By the way, what characters are you using?
>>3763638Laharl with a sword and Flonne with a bunch of spells learned through mentoring are my two most powerful units.Etna (axe), Pleinar, a ronin (spear), a ninja, and the mandatory strider for item world re-roll are my secondary units. I also have a fairly high-level thief that I've been using to steal testaments from the Prinny god in Prinny Land.Once I get some more armsmasters I'll powerlevel the units I need to unlock majins, then I'll probably use a couple of divine majins for my main units, replacing Flonne and Laharl. It's one thing I really don't like about Disgaea 1 compared to later games, majins are just a straight upgrade to almost every unit type in the game so it takes away the strategy of party composition. At least with Disgaea 2 there are evilties to make units unique and later games removed majins altogether.
>>3763646Honestly you can make do with these units with the robo suits and a rank 40 weapon. Laharl alone with a Yoshitsuna and the suits can make mincemeat out of every Baal.
>>3763566It's best to get to a highest rank items available before you start farming them since the base values will be higher with higher rank items, in my opinion. Savescum the first floor until they popup, capture, and Gency. Pretty quick. The people who go for several maxed Teachers and such are the real lovers of grinding in this series.
>>3763793Higher rank items have higher level enemies so you'll still have to level grind your characters a bit more to actually be able to kill them. Statisticians have a low cap in Disgaea 1 anyways so even with mid-rank items it shouldn't take more than a dozen item worlds to get a max statistician. But for regular innocents like gladiators, you are right, it is probably best to only farm rank 38/39/40 items for them for the most efficient gains.
>>3763877Character levels aren't as important as item levels, that's the efficient progression, leapfrogging through leveled weapons. You're right that 300 isn't that high, but I was thinking of the Armsmaster too, 1900 is still a good bit.
Worst SRPG franchise ever.
>>3763557>item worldAnd I lose interest immediatelyGrinding up items for little attached skills is so fucking annoying and obtuse of a system I never want to touch it at all
>>3764428You don't need to bother with specialists/innocents outside of a select few types to speed up post-game grinding, and you can just move those specialists around to other items. Higher tier items have higher level specialists too, so you can cut down on the grind by just waiting until you upgrade the shop or get to post-game stages with a thief.Disgaea 5 lets you breed specialists in a farm so you don't even have to use the item world much to get high-level specialists in that game. It's pretty much always less effort and time to just grind character levels until you're strong enough to progress, unless you hit character level + transmigration cap and want to go even further beyond.also>complaining about grinding in da grindan gamei shiggy diggy
I just dunno which version of the first game to get.I have the digital PSP version, but that's just it......I also have Phantom Brave for Wii, PSP (Digitial), and Steam if that counts.
>>3764428You're not forced to do it at all to beat the main story.
>>3764428I was relieved to see that 7 nerfed the floor count of items to a maximum of 30.
So we all agree that 6 has no redeeming qualities whatsoever but what about 7?
>>3764354unfortunately fire emblem exists
>>3764731PSP is just the best version not much other versions add save for the soulless HD spites of completeoh and the prinny commentary of DS, but DS is a complete downgrade otherwise
>>3765384So we clearly have diff opinions on what makes a good SRPGFortunately the series you mentioned is the progenitorAnd instead nobody cares about "this gaia" which is a shitty, childish, tropey unfunny franchise
>>3765387ah... ...was considering grabbing the PC version on steam, but if you say the PSP ver. is the best then...
>>3765428The PC version is basically the PSP version but with some UI/graphics changes and you get Pleinair at the start. There are supposedly some issues with the PC version when it comes to certain hardware/drivers but I haven't experienced any of that myself.
>>3765410Complaining about Disgaea being childish and tropey is like complaining about Shrek being childish and tropey.Like, that's kind of the point. It's a parody of otaku media tropes like how Shrek parodied a lot of fairy tale movie tropes.
>>3764758Yeah, I don't care for how Disgaea handles the post-game so I usually just beat the game and mess around a bit until I get bored. Do that and it's a pretty normal SRPG. And each story is a solid chunk of time by itself, so it's not like you're not getting your money's worth by just doing the story.
>>3765433so that's good news... ...might as well wait for the big sale to grab it, then.
>>3765458That's why it's the worst SRPG ever. A series based on parody, muh references with no originality can't ever be the best.
>>3765458>Using Shrek as an analogy to Disgaea
>>3765530you're like me and my 4 versions of Disgaea 4 (PS3, Vita, Switch, and Steam).
>>3765381It has giant women, so it's good.
How do i bind my disgaea rpg save file again?
>>3765458though unlike Shrek Disgaea tends to love the stuff its parodying

>>3763557I liked it up until the point every class besides the nuke everything on the screen class was rendered redundant. All those flashy animations and never to see them again,
>>3766904Yep. Vertical scaling type of progression kills any strategic potential in an srpg
Stahn solos Disgaea
>>3763566>I made this thread because I want to complainfilteredfuck off zoom
>>3767933I'm anything but filtered though, I've put nearly 50 hours into the game in the past few weeks. Item world is just tedious though.
>>3767953Disgaea 1 has the worst item world in the series, so take heart in that they get steadily better from there. It took until 5 for me to really start enjoying them, though.
>>3765622Super Robot Wars is fun tho
>>3767985SRW is shit just like DisgaeaSRPG where bigger numbers is the only key to winning everything is never gonna be a good SRPGOnly mechaguzzlers love em
Does passing stronger enemies bills give enemies better equipment, or do the items enemies have only dependent on the stage and item world they're in?

>>3770718Yes, they're called Free Dungeons, but they're so randomized (and I don't really like Makai Kingdom's point-based system for beating maps anyway) I didn't find them fun. But they're there. So far I think Phantom Brave has my favorite style of random dungeons, but I admit to not playing every single NIS variant
Any tips for soul nomad and the world eaters? Been trying to get into it but no dice.

>>3765622>A series based on parody, muh references with no originality can't ever be the bestSo Neptunia then?
>>3771498for level/room grinding have only 1 dood in the room since the room splits XP earned with everyone in it. you can also use the hand items to steal shit from npcs in towns on different stages, and there are some room items/effects that boost XP gained and the stats of a character if they are the only one in a room, which is great for powerleveling. got my revya to 9999 in the post game

I really like all the guest artists the disgaea games have for clear screens and the like. Soul nomad was really unique to me partially because harada wasn't the main artist like most of their other games (not to diss harada or anything his art is great too)
>>3763557I do, but starting a new game (I wanted to try 1 and 2) after I've grinded 4 and 5 for hundreds of hours feels bad without all of the qol of later titles. I'm not too interested in the newer games since I still have the old ones to go through
>>3763557No. And that is a problem for them to figure out. Disgaea needs to stop being so grindy. Grindyfags are not enough in number to keep the series alive. Either adapt or perish.
>>3763557My god she is flat.
>>3776767That's the series's niche though. If they take away the grinding they'll just alienate their core audience and then the series will be truly dead.
>>3763557erotic

>>3776843They could gain or restore faith to a new audience that wished the series wasnt grindy but liked a few of the core concepts and mechanics

Go play Stardew Valley Shitbird!
>>3777934yeah but like what if i want to beat baal to get the true ending how am i supposed to do that without grinding at least a little bit
>>3778120None of the Baal endings are story endings. Basically you are saying you want to grind and not play this Fucking game. You Zoomer Fucks never would have made it in the days of UO or Everquest. You're Fucking lucky goes are sanitized for you. What do you want to be able to Fucking skip gameplay all together and just watch story? Go Fucking play visual novels!
>Basically you are saying you want to grind and not play this Fucking game.>What do you want to be able to Fucking skip gameplay all together and just watch story? Go Fucking play visual novels! This makes absolutely no sense since grinding is playing the game. Anyone willing to grind and beat the postgame content is much more of a gamer than people who just play through the main story then never touch the game again. One of the main appeals of Disgaea games is the post-game content, telling people not to play the post-game is like telling someone to take a vacation to Thailand but not fuck ladyboys.
>>3763557Bros delete this pic I can’t go a single day without gooning to it

3D fucking killed the series because NIS can't optimize for shit and all their pixel artists end up on the gacha game, which globally went under like a year ago because boltrend sucks
>>3780086The weird part is that they should have a tremendous amount of 2D assets that can be endlessly recycled thanks to the gacha game, unless those can't be used due to whatever legal reasons?I just hope NIS keeps making Labyrinth games

>>37811354 is kino. the story is so fun and all the characters are a good time. dead print girl is underrated! 5 i just wasn’t into at all and I don’t know why. I have to give it a second chance. I liked 6 but I basically auto battled through the entire thing like a afk mobile game, so I never ended up picking up 7. I think I might be a closet visual novel fag. I played the shit out of this series, but refuse to play actual visual novels even the disgaea infinite one.
>>3781149From what I played 7 fixed a lot of the problems D6 hasAuto-battle was completely nerfed (needs to use energy to use it and can only use it in already completed maps) but still incredibly brokenthe 3D is not as garbage (still don't like it)it has the largest roster of generics since D3 characters are basically the story of an annoying rich weeb and Mugen from Samurai Champloo dunno how to feel about itstill haven't fished the main game or got to the post game yet
>>3780384he is
>>3775285(Psst, anon, Ori uses 3D models for the characters)Truth is, the original reason was that hardware and 3D skills at the time didn't allow for things to be "fully expressive" which is a signature aspect of Harada's character designs. A second reason is that it is a fuckton easier to animate a 3D character than a 2D one, especially for a game like this where there are a large amount of weapon skills.
>>3781287slow clunky 3D is easier to animate at least
>>3781153I hate that 7 ruined the Item World essentially.
>>37813965 did that imo by making it considerably easier—I loved delving too deep and trying to survive against much stronger enemies, except now they all have nerfed HP and you have plenty of checkpoints. Unlimited inventory space also means you don't run into situations where, say, you're out of consumables and have to seriously call the Defender of Earth because that phone item is all you all left. I get that I probably wasn't using the Item World as intended, but still.
>>3781507Yeah but I mean with 5 there was still a point to the item world. With 7 there is literally no reason at all to go to it.
>>3780196>I just hope NIS keeps making Labyrinth gamessame.

>>3782940I don't get it. Your picrel is probably the worst writing in any NIS game. I don't like to use the word, but it's too edgy. >>3782913I'll make a spiritual sequel. After I learn how to draw, how to program, how to write music, and how to write. Wait for 10-15 years. It will be yet another niche solodev JRPG not made by a Japanese.
>>3782940i know, that was over a year ago and he hasn't done anything. such a shame.
>>3781287>it is a fuckton easier to animate a 3D character than a 2D one,It is easier to bankrupt your company too. One of the dumbest decision from a company that already has a sizable core audience, and has attracted new ones from Disgaea 5 and Labyrinth. And it’s Japan, there must be enough veterans and cheap bright-eyed young animators to animate the sprites. Certainly more than affordable 3D experts it seems, as shown by Disgaea 6 and 7. You can always outsource the bulk of work to Korea, SEA, and China.

is the leveling strat for Disgaea 2 basically the same as Disgaea 1? i know there are no Statisticians, but is grinding out with a sword/winged slayer the way to go?

>>3801722Instead of the statisticians there's felonies, and there's the usual CoO stage where winged slayer works wonders, it might be even better in this game because of the weapon scrolls that can set a weapon's mastery to A so you don't have to bother with mastering a sword through another class

how are these games if im interested only in the story and not the grinding
>>38130821 and 2 are the only ones with a narrative worth a damn. Maybe also 4 somewhat. The rest have charming characters to varying extents depending on your personal tastes. But the stories just feel like skits or setpieces for those characters to play off each other rather than actually wanting to tell a cohesive overarchiing story.
>>3813127this. I like Disgaea 5 quite a bit but atst I don't give a fuck about it if that makes any sense.

>>3813127I'm inclined to agree.Man, did the writers they assigned for Disgaea forget how to write stories after 2? Like, all the characters from the other games still have their charm sure, but the stories they're actually placed in leave much to be desired.

In which Disgaea game do monsters start being good? I want to use them more but I don't like how they usually end up being worse than normal units in the long run.
Playing the PC version of D5 complete for the first time. Is it normal for this game to crash your GPU? Because mine sure did.
Always wanted to give one of these game a shot but I don't know where to start, the only thing I know about this serie is the male healer meme. Can I get a rec?
>>3819829desco is arguably the best unit in d4>>38198383 or 4, 4 is when they introduce the cheat shop and that makes the grind a lot easier4 has the cheat shop to make the grinding a little easier
>>3819842i'm very tired ignore the slight stroke
>>3819842Thanks! I'll see if I can get my hand on a copy, 40 bucks is a little too much to my tastes if I just want to try things out.
>>3819846If you aren't the type of person that cares about post-game content I'd suggest you start with 1 or 2 instead, they have better stories than the later games with less of the complicated mechanics so it's better if you play for the plot or want to ease yourself into the series instead of diving headfirst into complexity.
>>3819838Any is fine but its probably better to start with the first game as it has less mechanics to learn and this series is packed with mechanics the game never explains. Avoid the original console releases and go for the ported versions of 1-5. Ported versions(Also sometimes called "Complete" in the name) add lots of QoL changes, bug fixes, DLC being free in game, and just more content in general.
>>3819829Capturing monsters is literally the quickest, most efficient method to kill the strongest superboss in the original release of D1.IIRC the path is abuse hospital > go through hospital reward item worlds > use buffed item(s) to capture monsters > capture progressively stronger monsters until you can kill the superbossNo level grinding required.IIRC you can go from a NG (not NG+) fresh start to killing the strongest superboss in like 30 hours this way.
>>3819848>>3819851I'm a sucker for postgame content if anything. I just went with the first anon's rec and grabbed 4, it'll be fine I intend to take my time, if I like it I'll grab the others.
>>3819853My autism/OCD/whatever prevents me capturing monsters, if they're not a unique unit then they have to be summoned and leveled by me or else they don't feel like "my" units. Plus I'm pretty anal about abusing the master/pupil system for stat bonuses on my main units and captured monsters don't have any masters.
>>3819859If you like post game then these games are easily several hundred hours worth. Just don't burn yourself out expecting to play them back to back. Grinding in these games aren't as bad as most games make it out to be and in instead, is actually fun.
>>3819864I'm no stranger to grinding. 4 just finished so it's time to see what this is all about. Thanks again guys.
>>3819864>Grinding in these games aren't as bad as most games make it out to be and in instead, is actually fun.Ehhhhhhhh debatableAlthough the most braindead repetitive grinding (level grinding) can very easily be minimized by collecting specialist/innocents and passing bills or using the cheat shop.I would imagine most people get through the endgame content with just a few high-level units so it's not like you need to grind a full team up to very high stats.Item world grinding can certainly be a lot more engaging than level grinding, but it too becomes very repetitive after a certain point.
I don't like how they changed healing to be based on RES instead of INT in Disgaea 2 onwards. It makes sense in the context of giving people exp based on how much they heal people to encourage specialized healers (but even then it's still exploitable) but I miss teaching my healers offensive spells and using them as mage/healer hybrids to both nuke enemies and heal allies with high staff mastery and INT. It was a very practical application of the mentor system.
>>3819866Progress report: my first impression so far is that I can't even access the game because it keep crashing after the opening cutscene.
>>3819859i hope you enjoy it anon, i agree with the others that 1 and 2 have the best stories in the series (3 has a really good one too! i wish people didn't sleep on it's story so much) but 4 is a goofy trip through the netherworld
>>3819876The new system makes healer classes more viable, I like it. Otherwise there'd be little reason to use healers at all, because magician classes with higher base INT could do their jobs better.I always teach my healers Fire/Ice/Wind/Star for the offensive flexibility, but I don't mind if their damage is outclassed by more specialized magic classes.
>>3819882I hope so too but first I gotta get through these crashes, I'm just hoping it's not some fuckass compability problem from glorious noodle code because those tend to just be miserable.

>>3819905>>3819907It's pretty fun so far, though I misunderstood the geo mechanic and ended up confusing myself. I really love the visuals, it reminds me of Ragnarok Online.
>>3819924>I really love the visuals, it reminds me of Ragnarok Online4 and 5 (DD2 but we don't talk about that one) was where the series peaked graphically in my opinion. The high-res 2d sprites are very charming and it's a shame that they went with 3D models for 6 and 7 instead.
>>3819924The geo system isn't too complicated the more you play the game, nor necessary for the most part. Just avoid the bad ones by taking out the ones that boost the enemy if needed. I think only time it really starts to matter is end/post game as you start to want to aim for higher bonus score for the bonus item and exp stages that boost exp for easy leveling.

>>3770056personally I couldn't get into it. The combat mechanics look half-baked imo and so I couldn't be bothered. I liked Makai Kingdom best out of all these spin offs. That's closest to what Disgaea is. But I find La Pucelly, Phantom Brave and whatever the fuck else there is hard to get into. Or at least it couldn't keep me interested enough.

>>3763646>majins are just a straight upgrade to almost every unit type in the game so it takes away the strategy of party composition.Yeah, it's kinda unfortunate. There ARE units that are better in narrow areas, but pretty much none of these actually translate to being better at something.Flonne and the Galactic Demon are the best cases. Flonne is a marginally better caster, in exchange for being notably less tanky, but still reasonably tanky. The Majin is probably better in the role, but Flonne has something over them. The Galactic Demon beats the pants off the Majin in terms of durability, but that's basically ALL it can do. If you need something to just not die, they're unparalleled. But. They just kinda... sit there. Teaching them some healing can be handy. I think they're technically able to take down Baal at the lowest effective level, because the motherfuckers start taking 0 from base Baal with just a couple hundred stored levels, and like level 600, with whatever random armor you slap on. Technically Thursday has the most potential in the game, but grinding Thursday is agony I wouldn't reccomend, and it doesn't really feel good. And Great Wyrms technically have more Attack, but worse skills to use. The main draw of Great Wyrms is skipping the grind and just capturing a few 9999s to use as line fillers. You CAN drown Baal in bodies with them, so long as you're good about rotating injured ones out to keep deployment slots.
>>3819885I kinda like Res healing, because it makes some pretty unexpected units competent healers if you bother to teach them. Most of the mage type units have good Res anyways, and staffs boost it too, but some unorthodox units have pretty solid res if you look at them. Rifle Demons are probably the nost interesting case, their Res is actually pretty good in most games, so they're completely capable of filling an off-healer role. They have bad SP, so benefit from orbs anyways, and the result is one of the smoothest, most flexible feeling units in the games where you can get them. Rifle Demons are fukkin kino in DD2, especially since their basic attack is essentially another, free skill in that game. I haven't done it, but iirc the Cockatrice also falls under this, with it having pretty solid res, which fits with its kinda weird, frontline, disruptor, antimage, but otherwise frail role. I think Zombies also have somewhat surprising res.I really like poking at what the generics "do", and so many of the monsters are fascinating. Slapping healing on a bunch of them makes for some pretty insane versatility.
>>3819867YeMost of the "grinding" in these games is more figuring out how to do it efficiently, rather than doing it a lot. DD2 and 5 are probably the only ones where, even once you know what to do, it's gonna take a long time. 5, because the Asagi genocide requires THOUSANDS to perish, DD2 because getting the fukkin, what's it, carnage or rasetsu stats takes a while, you need to actually clear item world floors, and Baal in that one is an entire fucking ordeal that you need to set up multiple layers of contingency for his different phases.
>>3800673AlrightSo when you look at a Food item, you'll see it has a Tec stat right? That Tec stat is effectively an EXP multiplier, eating a food with 50 Tec gives +50% exp for that map. A Chef unit using food on someone else DOUBLES that bonus, so a 50 Tec food gives +100% exp, if a Chef is the one that uses the food on someone. This is an intrinsic property of the Chef as far as I know you can't transfer it via reincarnations. This stacks, but only stacks to a cap, that I believe some individual foods can actually go higher than, so good food > lots of weak food. This multiplier is only good for one map, thoughIf you make a Foods Market facility (Chefs can make it through wishes), every time it is Invited, it will generate one random piece of food, so you can keep a supply of it. Higher leveled markets generate better food, a level 1 will only make carrots and pumpkins and shit, a higher level one can generate cakes and shit, so this is a facility you actually do want at a higher level if you can afford itThis is of particular note for the fukkin, Iron dungeons, the single floor, mob of Metal Giant enemies you get for I THINK making a wish for a dungeon, with a unit holding a single piece of food in their weapon slot, and nothing else. I forget how to do it exactly, this could ve wrong. They're always one floor so you can kinda see if it's working. Metal Giants have the best exp payout in the game, and these dungeons are generated higher level than average, so these are good dungeons to burn good food on. Metal Giants are tanky as fuck though, so be careful. It's also very non-economical for Mana, you will gain nowhere near as much Mana as you spent making the dungeon, so if you do these, ABSOLUTELY feed the person grinding themI believe this also works on vehicle pilots for training vehicles, but the pilot has to be out of the vehicle to be fed. I don't thibk you can feed Zetta to shotgun this buff to the entire map, but I could be wrong. It's been a while
>>38198291. Monsters are in a weird spot. Monster weapons are limited, but every monster has flat 100 aptitudes in a game where that's actually really good. Capturing the Manticore or Dragon early on gives yoy an absolute beefcake of a unit that is good until postgame. Monsters will start lagging by late into the main story, since they aren't getting weapon skill. However, Monsters quickly shoot back up as Monster Mastery starts being a thing, and they have quick, low investment stat boosts from equipment. Then they cap out, and are bad again, but that's arguably after the postgame is done. Galactic Demons stand aside from normal monsters, as being absurdly strong, if somewhat boring units. Their defense stat is effectively doubled from what it looks like they have from creation, leading to ridiculous defensive profiles, that can be literally unbreakable if they also get good armor. 2 fucking move though. 2. Monsters just kinda suck. Some of the beefier ones can be decent for the main game, the Dragon is pretty solid, but they struggle to really shine. Recieving makes Monsters tactically flexible, and allow an army to be faster if it includes some. 3. Monsters are kinda... on par? For the main game at least. Monsters have somewhat weak skills, but the D3 skill shop system is a bit forgiving of that. Magichange is fun, but not really "good", except as a way to recycle mostly dead monsters, or make specific builds work.4. Monsters are mostly better units outright. 2 evility slots is great, even if kinda meh early on. Monster skills have gotten better on average, and Monsters like the Prinny or Nekomata will hit S+ skills while even Axe humanoid are hanging our with Cs and maybe Bs. Fusion is absurdly powerful as a mechanic. Most roles a humanoid fills, has a monster that does it better.
>>3821847DD2. Another pretty balanced one. Monsters Weapons are a proper weapon tyoe now, iirc, so they're not being left behind in stats anymore. Mounting is a huge boost to their strategic flexibility, even if making proper monster/rider pairs is a bit scuffed. But then Monsters get punched in the nuts, as they are basically incapable of fighting Baal. They just do not have the depth of skill access required to fight him. 5. Another kinda weird one. The new system for monster unlocks mostly fucks monster units, because your monster units will almost always be extraordinarily weak compared to the humanoids you can get. Except the Nether Noble, who is the single best generic for the main game, and his skill is glued to almost every single character for postgame. Montoss is another boon for Monsters, and Magichange is better. 6. Monsters do not exist. And/or all units are monsters. Disgaea 6 is a shit-ass game. The "monsters" are the giant units, who have immutable characteristics you can't really work around. They're... awkward, but not horrible. 7. Monsters are kinda on par, I think a bit worse than humanoids. Monster statlines USUALLY trending towards more bulky generalist units makes them a really good fit for Jumbofication, moreso than most humanoids. Unfortunately, D5's system for monster unlocks makes a return, so your mobster units are shit for most of the game. Fuck you for ruining Monsters forever, Disgaea 5.
>>3818548a few days after grabbing one for myself I think I can confirm that they are slow updating the funny little gauge, for whatever reason
>>3821848The gauge isn't granular or live. They have, iirc, 100%, 50%, 10%, and sold out. It still being that high IS damning, but, that doesn't mean literally nobody has bought any, it just means they haven't sold enough to bump down to the next lowest option

Final Fantasy as well (it's problem is more series direction these days).Disgaea always felt like it thrived on it's 2d aesthetic. I love Disgaea. The artwork/character design is just charming as fuck, and the tone of the games is all light hearted and silly. And there's a bunch of stuff to collect and level up and all that. But I'm sure I'm echoing a sentiment that a lot of people ITT share when I say that the end-endgame grind is just WAY too much. You play through the whole campaign in 40, 50 hours or whatever, but then the extra stuff asks you to play for another 200 fucking hours. A lot of it is really obtuse too, with the Item World and Innocents and passing bills and getting Martial Ranks and shit. I like grinding in these games, but Disgaea is just balls to the wall insane-o maximum retard levels of grind. It's just too much. Also, Altus are MASSIVE cunts and I despise their business tactics with no upgrades and re-releases and DLC pricing and all that shit. They're such God damned assholes.
>>3824164Opinions, assholes, etc. If the anon had said Those games weren't fun after 3d, then maybe. But they were said to have DIED after going 3d. Most of them GAINED popularity/sales from it. That was my point. Dislike them all you want, but going 3d made most of those series bigger.

>>3824160reverse damage geo panel is even better when leveling up healers, healing comes off the RES stat so equip them with a bunch of orbs and just one-shot enemies with it (they have even less chance to dodge because healing) put enemies on the deathblow panel (so you can one-shot them); avoid putting your own guys on it if you find you ran out of moves and they are already on one then just lift and throw them off of it>Is it just a type of magic without natural resistance or somethingyep until D5 where they decide to give weakness anyway

>>3823988FF is the exception for me - I think they didn't lose its original charm such as the RPG elements due to becoming 3D. When did it gone wrong? Since they started turning it into an MMO-lite with XII and doubling down on XIV. XV & XVI made it lose even more of the RPG aspects as well. That said using better sales as justification is not really a valid way to say they became better.
>>3824659I didn't say they became better. I said they didn't die. And XI is the one you want to blame, not XII. That was the first MMO, and the first mainline, numbered entry that really said, "Final Fantasy can be anything!"

As a casual who has played most of the games in the series over the years do other casual players feel like every time by midgameish the game feels like its fraying. I hear what the smart people in here are saying about being able to break the systems and finding fun in that, but as a desu dumbass, I like just fucking around a lot and feel like the challenge is reasonable and paced well and find it is hard to stay committed to these when Im forced to engage with systems Im too dumb to understand well. I just notice as the game goes on and the complexity starts to layer I just fizzle out when Im here for the goofy, story, and seeing all the cool visual stuff, mush less math stuffAlso just kinda like PB for the aesthetic a lot, that did a lot for me as a casual
>>3824646Yeah I already figured that with reverse damage for healer (it dawned on me when I sudoku one of my own unit, it wat hilarious but I felt like a downie at the same time).Star damage being the way it work is neat, I just unlocked the star magician, I'll make good use of it.Thanks.I know I said it times and time again but, so far, I'm really glad you guys convinced me to play this, it's such a great game, been having the time of my life.I'd easily rank it above the current shit they release nowadays.
I was watching Japanese footage and noticed the specialist names are extremely straight-forward. Literally <what they do> + an occupational suffix 屋. You could think of them as "ATK guy", "SPD guy", "weapon mastery guy", "EXP increase guy", "poison addition guy", "sleep resistance guy", etc. The only ones that aren't straight-forward are the dual-stat innocents, which are roughly the same in both languages. It's cool that NISA turned those names into real occupations that fit those roles, but it was admittedly pretty confusing the first time I played the series. Some of the innocent names are not very straightforward, like Gangster and Social Worker, or the difference between Trainer and Sparring Partner.
>>3824942out of ten
Am I correct that the "+" in the Disgaea title on steam is basically there to indicate they contains all the DLC and stuff?
>>3823622The "not popular thing" is just a meme that everyone just blindly accepted which makes no sense since they easily ported the game to the Vita with extra content and long with D4. The Vita ports of D3 and D4 with extra content are practically the same same when you look under the code so there's no complications in porting the game. They just don't want to deal with the backlash from the main VA being falsely #metoo'ed with no evidence. He then tried to sue but got a shitty lawyer that ended up getting him blacklisted from the VA community but only for that reason. Nothing to do with the rape or any imaginary victims since all the claims were just people(stalkers) watching him in the background. This is probably the main reason they redubbed Persona 3 because they didn't want to deal with hiring a blacklisted VA. Even more evidence is they skipped D3 after D2 was ported to steam and started with D5, then D4, then the spinoffs. Like they really are trying to avoid asking nips to port D3.

Started 5, when do I unlock the item world in this one? I'm already on 3 - 4, unlocked a load of facilities but this is still beyond my reach.Any tips to farm class mastery quick too? I wanna unlock some jobs ASAP but those quests requirements make it slow as fucking hell unless I'm missing something critical.
>>3828421pretty early on (I don't remember when exactly), but be warned that the item world in 5 is way easier than in previous titles and will make the rest of the game unfun in no time at all
>>3828569Yeah I unlocked it shortly after making that time, forgot to point so.Happen often that I finally figure things out the moment I bitch out and ask for help.Using Seraphina's AOE charm in the gigantic Prinny train wagon was a mistake
>>3828569Really I wish they just did the item world like DD2rather than D1-D4 where you are just stuck with the bullshit or D5-D7 where it barely has anything have it be ball-busting in the main game (so you can just easily cheese things) but unlock options to make the item world as difficult as you want in the post game
>>3828599agreedI also wish 5 either didn't have near-unlimited inventory space or forced you to pass a dark assembly bill for it, but I'm probably one of the 10 people in the entire world autistic enough to be bothered by that
I just wish I could somehow make innocents stored in the warehouse appear in the item world when farming for them, having to slog through the shitload of them in storage and coming up with a farm order is just tedious to me
I've been playing D5 on the PC for the first time too. Right now I'm on Chapter 8 and been loving all the QoL features after playing 1-4 on my Vita. My only gripes so far has been I'm not a fan of the scroll system for skill and evility. I just hate how this is how you get skills and evility now unless it gets better. They didn't even bother color code the difference between skills and evility scrolls either and just group them all together. For the longest time I thought they were just skill scrolls until I read the description on some of them and noticed some of them were evility's. I don't even know what these evility's do because there's no description on the scrolls, that I've seen at least. So I now have to go out of my way to look those up online. My 2nd gripe so for is not a fan of the new class world either. I like that its much faster to finish than D3 and D4, I just wish they could have choose something better than a watered down board game. I ironically wouldn't mind a full game version of this D5's class world. It just feels lacking in D5, like there could have been more and better rewards, spaces, enemy encounters, random effects, etc. Some serious Dokkipon Kingdom vibes.>>3828421>Any tips to farm class mastery quick too? I wanna unlock some jobs ASAP but those quests requirements make it slow as fucking hell unless I'm missing something critical.I just learned about sub classes awhile back. I don't understand the full details but when you go to the Dark Assembly, assign all your unique story characters a sub class ASAP. Other than learning that class's evility when they have a sub class assigned to them, it also levels that class without having to create that class. Wish I had learned that earlier. I've been dragging my butt, I'm already 50 hours in and only on chapter 8.

>>3828723>skill/evility scrolls>class proficiencyThat's weird, I played D5 ages ago and don't remember these features. Were they added in a re-release or am I retarded?
What kills me about innocents is having to comb through a billion lv 1 dietecian innocent one by fucking one.
>>3829208It's pretty much always better to wait until you have access to higher rank items before you start the innocent grind since you'll get higher level innocents per item.Dieticians are also probably one of the least important innocents, I usually just combine them all into one and stick them on a character that could use the extra health.
>>3829217I know I just think managing them is needlessly tedious. Since we're talking about that I also must know, I googled but the answers are either far too vague or simply unrelated: can innocents in the warehouse appears in D5 item world?I'm not talking about innocent on gear, I'm not talking about innocent being spawned by the cheat mystery room, I'm talking about random unsubdued innocents sitting in the warehouse.

>>3830070Saw people talking about the PSP port
>>3830070I emulated the switch version which has HD sprites and had a great first impression, but the more correct way to start would probably be the PC port + the Pretty Prinny mod. SD sprites have a crazy amount of polish too, and you'll get to see the HD sprites anyway if you ever play the later titles2's PC port wasn't a smooth experience for me but I happen to have learned from the research I did when troubleshooting it that 1's is very playable by comparison, meaning it's safe to recommend
>>3830070My only bitching about the port is that the games are still relatively pricey for their ages, and that they run as well as a video game coded by japanese can I suppose sometime crashing for weird, non sensical reasons, such as running in a resolution it doesn't agree with.
>>3830070Emulate the PSP version or play the PC port, I would only recommend the PS4/Switch version if you really want the new sprites (but you can just mod those in on PC)

>>3830181no, that's normal
>>3830181why would it be bad
>>3830070The PSP / PC versions are the best, with all updates/features. Though I hear the PC release has some jank you may need mods to fix.Do NOT play any version of D1 with "HD" sprites, you'll be missing out on a lot of Disgaea 1's unique designs. Rather than recreating the original sprites in HD, they were replaced with updated or similar-looking sprites from Disgaea 4 onwards, so you get uncanny shit like these gangster looking dudes (left) gobbling like turkeys because they replaced a D1-exclusive enemy that had their mouths stitched shut (right). Most of the generic classes also underwent design changes that carried on into the rest of the series, so Disgaea 1 is the only place to see them.
>>3830492I would've been more fond if they were completely thorough with it, but after they got to the monsters they just gave up and recycled sprites you think they would use the dragon zombie to replace the galactic demon since they have the same high defense gimmack
>>3830495Yeah, it's a shame they half-assed it. But I can understand that recreating all the sprites in HD was out of scope for yet another port, and it's not like they'd be able to recycle the sprites in future games either because they've gone all-in on 3D.I'm glad Disgaea D2 exists though. The HD sprites it gave us are great.
>>3830504they used the spites in the gacha game, OCs and alts are the only ones with new sprites while returning characters and generics are all recycled

New guy here, I'm sorry to be an absolute lobotomite, but can anyone explain to me, as if they were talking to a very obtsuse, ADHD riddlen, retarded child how geo panels works?Everytime I try to chain them, I either completely fuck it up or end up with one type of geo panel left, I only ever manage to completely get chain them if the game basically throw me a freebie. It seems I just can't wrap my mind around this simple concept, I constantly, somehow fuck up the order.
>>3830763The most braindead way to do it is to pile everything up on one color, then explode the one furthest from Null. This doesn't work for Invincible panels, but it handles everything else
>>3830763>I either completely fuck it up or end up with one type of geo panel leftThis strategy works most of the time >>3830773, but one other thing you need to watch out for is when there's 1 color with no geo symbol. For example, there might be 6 different geo panel colors and only 5 geo symbol colors (excluding null). You would need to start the chain on the panel color that has no geo symbol (usually cyan or light blue, I think).
>>3830773>>3830789Sorry for the late reply anons I had family matters to attend to.Thanks for holding my hands, I really don't know why I can't wrap my head around this mechanic when it's literally just an A B C system.
>>3830890>I really don't know why I can't wrap my head around this mechanic when it's literally just an A B C systemI used to struggle with geo panel combos too until I learned about the same-color trick, would imagine most other players have too
>>3830897I think it's just how the sheer mess of the map can be.Let's say you have 3 + null geoblockYou simply put the red on blue, which then become red so you put the green on a red panel which then will become green and finish with the null on a green, which will erase it all, but sometime you get map that become such massive fucking checkerboard you end up confusing yourself or thinking too hard on it.The specials like >>3830789 certainly doesn't help because now you're not playing on a map anymore, it's a Picasso's experiment.
Today I just learned that capturing enemies in D5 do not give XP when I always thought they did, albeit at a reduced rate.Well those squads ain't gonna level up by themselves anyhoo so I guess I'll still go on capturing sprees here and then.
>>3831436Yeah that was really dumb to not let you get any exp from capturing them. I ended up grinding levels then going to item world and captured enough to max my capture squad. 3x3 aoe is a fucking god sent. I'm going through D5 right now too, on chapter 12. Chapters 9 and 10 I took a break to grind levels since I'd been getting my ass kicked. Reincarnating once helped a ton for my uniques. Another tip you might want to know is to leave the Innocent farm squad to level 7 and don't boost it any higher. The reason being is you can gain more Innocent levels by going through item world to subdue them instead of them being born subdued in the farm. You can max out the exp Innocents pretty fast
>>3831499Wait, I don't understand, can't you do just both? Let innocent fuck and make already subdued innocent in the farm while you cram one item full of some fuckass innocent you got then do a dive, come back whenever, do a big fuse, repeat
>>3831510Subduing them inside item world after you pick the Innocent boost route on any 10th floor seems to give a bigger boost than letting them breed subdued. I don't know if anything changed since then but I saw this method and copied that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQvqqorU69Q
>>3831518Oh and forgot about the hunter innocent squad. There's 2 squads relating to innocents
>>3831518What a strange system. I don't understand why they did things the way they did sometime, it's not as if this is complex or anything, just strange.
>>3831523Nippon Ichi is known for not explaining shit in their games. I guess its part of the charm and for people who just want to dig deep into their games without having the game hand holding you a lot. It annoying but on the other hand, a part of me would hate to see this series being too handholdy, with arrows and tutorials quests pointing and walking you through all the postgame content. I know some games like Dragon Quest Builders 2 was bad about this.
>>3831518HOLY FUCK I'm fucking stupid I always thought the innocent hunter squad just increased the chances of innocents appearing and subduing them being easier, IE some simple but appreciated QoL shit, I did not know that if a squadmember take down an innocent then it multiply its levle by fucking x8
>>3831530Yeah I'm not complaining, it's just that it feels so obtuse to me, I'm given all these tools to work with but there are things or situations where it's insanely better to not use them at all.If anything this feels more like a simple oversight from the devs not seeing ahead how exploitable this could be, and in fairness, it's easy to understand this can happens with how crammed with mechanics the games are.Fucking up or overlooking things are just bound to happen.
>>3831531>>3831523Its not too big of a deal and some people are saying maxing the farm is faster so its kind of debatable. Maybe once you got a nice stack of the exp boosting ones it gets faster. You just need to know that>every 10 turns in battle will cause the innocents to level up and have a chance to produce an offspring>going through 10 floors in the item world counts as does completing 10 maps in one turn>spending 10 turns in one map counts (specifically, spend 9 turns, then finish the map on turn 10)>a single map only counts once (don't bother spamming more then 10 turns on a single map)>once the offspring is born, just combine it with one of the parents and continueIts a lot less work than going through item world basically,
>>3777866No
A little bit tangential to the main discussion, but what do you guys think of the two Prinny games? Are the Switch HD ports OK visually or are the originals so much sharper that it makes a difference? I know the ports of the other PSP games had an intermediary company handle some sprite work of some sort. I'm wondering if the complaints aren't really pointing out much.
>Need a quick powerlevel>Look up a guide>Go to this map, stand there, do this one thing, repeatI understand the purpose and can see the benefits, but I think I'd rather just go dive in item dungeons and what not because I can feel these methods slowly killing my braincells one by one.
>>3831883In Disgaea 1 I literally wrote a macro for grinding Cave of Ordeal 3 and just let it run overnight. Can obviously only do this playing on a PC, but yeah. Do that.
>>3831883>>3831896Farming 5-3 is so mind-numbing in Disgaea 1 that I only tried it once before giving up and just decided to unlock the other farming levels instead.
>What do you MEAN standing in 100% xp panels while opening 2000 sodas is boring?Yeah I'm gonna be real fuck that, mate, either I automate this shit or I just do the factually slower method I do get to actually play the video game
I've been thinking of ways to get through the post-games without grinding too much and while there aren't many options it would be fun to try some of them.-Monster capturing is one way but it can only be done in Disgaea 1 and the PS2 version of Disgaea 2, after that they changed capturing so it can't be done to get monsters that are much stronger than the rest of your team.-The next option is to abuse status effects, poison in particular does 20% HP damage regardless of the target's stats but the issue becomes actually applying that effect, you would still need to grind your units enough so they can land a hit. And some of the super bosses are immune to status effects so this shit is pointless against them anyways.-Abusing buff and debuff spells is an option and you would only need to grind units enough to be able to repeatedly cast those spells, and since you can buff up to 50% stronger and debuff to 50% weaker you can cut the time you need to grind your main unit(s) by like 75%, I think most people already use abuse these spells anyways so it doesn't really fit here.-The final option would be to just find units that have particular passives/evilties that would allow them to go against much stronger than them, things like buff/debuffs to adjacent units or abilities that make them incredibly tanky so they can just whittle down bosses over many turns. But again I think a lot of Disgaea players already are using these units to get through parts of the post-game anyways.
>>3831932xp panels affect sodas?
>>3831961Using an item in combat gives you a flat% xp gain in D5, there's a strategy that consist of running the triple XP vote in the assembly, go on martial, kill two of the three noble while permanently lifting the third and then chug down sodas on the 100% XP geo panels.
>>3831896Seems like a lot of effort when Cheat Engine exists, but I guess that's not as satisfying.
>>3831830Pretty fun. Games will break your shoulder buttons though. Can get hard as ball too.>Are the Switch HD ports OK visually or are the originals so much sharper that it makes a difference?I honestly haven't heard anyone talk about the ports. I doubt they can be in anyway bad. They probably also added all the PSP DLC to the main game so there's that.
finished the d2 (disgaea 2 not disgaea D2) manga, or at least what i could find of itit was cute! i enjoyed it quite a bit and perfectly matches the series tone
>>3831956>The next option is to abuse status effectsDoesn't cut down the grind but Shaman are really fun for this. They have a unique skill called Curse Storm that hits all enemies on the map with random status effects. Really great screwing with enemies. I'd use them a lot in D4 and D5 and would come in handy for a lot of post game stuff. Throw in some maids and you can keep stacking debuffs.
>>3832151>Curse StormI've been using this a lot in D4 and feeling kinda gross about it
>>3763557What's with the pedo OP image? Why is this allowed?
>>3832008Yes, I did gain quite a lot of satisfaction by using problem solving skills to create a macro that farmed it, actually.

>Got an armor knight from lv 24~ to 205 just by tanking damages for other unitsIf there's one thing I really can't give shit to this serie for, is that thank fucking god units can level up from actually doing their job instead of being restricted to dealing damages or killing enemies.
>>3832581Felt the same with healing. I wasn't paying attention and noticed my healers were 10-20 levels higher than the rest of my units. >exp for tanking>exp for healingFeels good

>>3832151every time when I about unlock the shaman and get curse storm it's always when I've already got a good team going so I always feel there is no point
>>3832844Yeah level 80 in D5 is a bit late to get that skill. In D4 I think you got the skill sooner. Also what made her better in D4 was her evility had some kind full wide map effect for just being on the map. I can't remember what it was but I don't think its the same in D5. In D4 there was 2 reasons to used Shamans, curse storm and her evility.
>>3832851Had to look them up to remember, yeah they were busted in D4 and D3. Decreasing all enemies on the map element by 25% + their main evility that couldn't be changed which decreased all enemies on the map stats by 5%. I must have unlocked them late in the game when I used them but I remember using them a lot of post game stuff.

Do XP geo panels affect class mastery XP in D5?
Jeeze that took me forever to finish the story. My fault for leveling too many characters at once. I just farmed and slapped max Statisticians on Killia and pushed through the last 2 chapters.
>>3834768I mean, it's da grindan game, I won't fault anyone for doing exactly just that even smackdab in the story, I just started Sera's chapter and I was just thinking of doing some item dives to upgrade them, I got a bunch of legendaries and innocents unmolested.
>>3763557I played only 1 and 2. I liked Laharl, is he in any other games?
>>3834768>My fault for leveling too many characters at onceI fall into this trap every time, wanting one of every human generic and one of every weapon type. Then when I start to get burnt out I steamroll everything with the protagonist. It's a shame how much easier and effective it is to level one unit instead of many. I think statisticians are part of the problem, since it's much easier to keep them all merged on one item than it is to keep several statisticians or swap them around constantly to level other units.

>>3835040You can just keep playing in order if you want. Like the other anon mentioned he's the star again in DD2 where as the others, he's just a DLC extra with only like 2-3 lines of text. D5 actually gave him more lines in his DLC story and didn't feel lazy as the previous games but it also makes a lot of reference from DD2.
D1C is on sale on the eshop, should I get it now or do I wait more in hopes it comes to steam?
>>3835421It's probably not coming to Steam since it has its own PC release but I don't think D1 Complete is worth it anyways if you already have a copy of D1 since it's just some minor QoL and sprite changes

Both scripts and pointers. Not sure why I grabbed this table instead on the one in the opening post. That one seems like its more recently updated. I downloaded this table awhile back and just forgot about it.https://fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?p=294450#p294450This one is also pretty interesting. Lets you get bosses evilities. Never tried it though but it seems like something to mess around with after post game.

>>3836036I'm using the clean pirate version of D5 and it works fine for me. Could also be your version of cheat engine. I'm using version 7.5
>>3836065I'm on CE7.4 and my D5 is 1.0.0.0 (so basically release) Steam version.I did find a table that work though, digging deeper, so it's not a problem.
>>3836067Forgot to say that I did look into the table you linked, if you open it up and poke around you'll see it has check that make it require CE 7.0 and onward, so it's just my game version, not my CE.Which I'm glad because that shit is annoying to update if you don't build it yourself directly from the github if you don't want a zillion adwares.
The more I dig into D5's post game the more I'm starting to hate it compared to previous entries. Just learned the puppy paw stick doesn't work like it used to so duping gear requires another more RNG heavy method in D5. Complete fucking let down.
Do stats matter for buffs? Not sure what stats to focus on for professor in Disgaea 5.
>>3836834>Do stats matter for buffs?No>>3836834>Not sure what stats to focus on for professor in Disgaea 5.INT maybe for some offensive capability
>>3836834I personally still give them some RES because I find them polyvalent for some healing, since I mainly use them for support, but INT isn't a bad idea as they have a bunch of offensive spell as well. It's really mostly on what you use them for, I find.
Do you prefer to use generic units or main character units? I guess it depends on the game, but still I'm curious.
>>3837311Generally just use generics with an exception for Fuka.
>>3837311generics, followed by catgirls/kemonomimi
I mostly use main characters on story missions but for things like item world dives and shit I like to use generics.
>>3837311Feels like I've been using uniques more in D5 than generics. I think its because of the sub class system and the need to only create 5-6 star characters off the bat. I really need to break this habit. Even worst for me with monster units.
>>3837569I never use monster units at all.
>>3837311I exclusively use generics, except for some rare cases like Flonne (best girl)it's no exaggeration to say that I wouldn't be interested in Disgaea if it forced you to use the main characters
>>3837311I usually use the first two or three main characters but after that I find it hard to fit the other main characters in my party especially since the ones acquired later are usually underleveled compared to everyone else by the time you get them. Also the main characters are usually pretty gimmicky in terms of skills/evilties while many of the generics have clear cut roles and are just easier to use.>>3837700>I never use monster units at all.I think that's true for most people. They follow the same issue with some main characters in that many are too gimmicky plus in earlier games they quickly fall behind humanoid units because they don't benefit from weapon mastery and get weapon skills even if they have higher base stats.
>>3837757If they wouldn't cockblock my tower stacks, I would use them more. I don't understand why you're allowed to lift and chuck your own monster units but you can't make a tower with them.
>They finally gave Carnage Dimension a story this time in D5This game feels like someone on the dev team's last game before leaving the company where they put their entire A game into their last game. Also speaking of Carnage Dimension. I just unlocked Carnage Dimension and need some clarification. So Carnage items are basically like a whole another copy of the normal items and gear but with better stats? I found a legendary Arcadia and Yoshitsuna but these are the normal ones. So does that mean I should be looking for the carnage ones instead? If so then is there any point to leveling those or normal rank 39+ legendary gear in item world?
So in order to reach maximum autism in Disgea 5, I have to grind up chara world to reach 300% aptitudes in all stats, right? This kinda suck
>>3838546>I have to grind up chara world to reach 300% aptitudes in all statsNah, there's other better(more grindy) ways to reach 300 aptitudes. You want to max all sub classes on a character as those give you a ton of stat/aptitudes boost whenever you reincarnate. This can easily be done with 2 fast leveling methods, both of which can only be done once you reach postgame and unlocked Carnage Dimension and both of which requires a lot of setting up.First you need to get a Sage for its geo blasting skills to deathblow geo panels. A thief for her treasure destroying ability[optional]. Get a high rank Carnage item, usually a consumable as this can be easily done with a maxed Alchemy Squad. Set the alchemy npc to make a Gency exits and Carnage Elcair. Once you have both those item set the cheat shop to 20 stars and go into item world using the Carnage Elcair. If you see a geo panel, use the Sage's geo blast skill to destroy it which in return will reward you tons of exp and sub class exp to the point where you can max out a class and subclass in 1-3 geo panels(normally Pirate, Sage, and Dark Knight take the most exp). You can also magic change with the Sage to level even more characters. Afterwards, use a Gency and repeat. Thanks to maxed Alchemy squad, you never have to worry about running out of Gency exits as you'll receive a Gency every time you come back from a map.If you don't see any geo panels on the floor, then just exit as normal and re-enter.Theifs are the same way. If you see a chest, use their chest destroying skill and they'll get tons of exp too along with high rank Carnage items. You can also use Raspberyl for her object deathblow evility. You can even get creative with her by using a tower and placing her on top so you can level even more units. An optional maid or 2 is also very useful.I haven't even gotten to the 2nd method yet but as you can see, the setup is the only annoying part but once you got a routine going it gets much easier.
>>3838546>>38386242nd exp method is even more ridiculous and actually requires a lot of chara world runs but the benefit of leveling multiple character's sub classes at once. This method requires you to spread 2 eviltys on all the characters of at least 7-20 characters, passing a bunch of bills to increase your base panel limit, spreading even more evilitys revenge boosting, and honestly just not worth the effort. Also for aptitude boosting you also want to farm those stat shards you probably noticed as there's a fast way to rack up on those. Basically shards + maxing all sub classes on a character that gives you your 300% aptitudes. For shard farming you want to unlock the Asagi map by passing the post game bill "Explore a mysterious Neitherworld". In that map there's like 30 or so Asagi's. Here you want to use Sage again for her map wide AOE skill. As soon as you hit them(doesn't matter if you miss) with it, they all go into revenge mod. So the process here is trying to boost Sage and that aoe's skill damage as its rank G with an max accuracy of 50 and it hits everyone including your party so there's various ways you can set that up. Maid again is going to be needed plus a 2nd weaker Sage. If you get good enough you can start doing the carnage map version with increased stars. Higher difficulty = higher shards. The stat shards can give your character raw stats right off the bat. Also you can merge them to free up some space by passing the bill that talks about innocents. Don't know why they worded it to be about innocents.
>>3838624>>3838658Well that seem absurdly annoying but it beats the charaworld. Thanks.
>>3838683Yeah the setup process really sucks, even worst if you weren't following a guide or know any of the helpful tips during the story on stuff you could have had before finishing the story. Speaking of, make sure you farmed and bread those exp boosting innocents mind you. Luckily you only need 1 stack of those and like I mentioned earlier, could have been farming those during the story but yeah, you pretty much have to be following a guide before hand. This series loves not explaining shit.
>>3838693Yeah I have a full stack of statisticians and been working on a second one, in fact I spent the day hunting down innocents because my warehouse was just full of the fuckers, and midway through I realized that I can also put unsubdued innocents in the farm to level those up as well as setting higher difficulty increase their "star cap", whatever the hell that's called.
>>3838694Don't forget those special skill exp ones. I've been neglecting them til now and just started using a maxed stack of mentors and they are fucking awesome. 1 skill use can get a skill to level 40-50s. Add the Maid's 2nd turn skill and Sage's double attack skill and you can max a skill in 1 turn. I maxed all my buffs and long range spells and can hit shit from across the map now. I wish I had been using these during the story.
>>3838758Trying to but I haven't had much luck finding them it seems, I'm absolutely fucking drowning in fucking Physician innocents but got near fuckall anything else, it's actually insane. At the very least my healer can sustain my fattest tank units with the most basic bitch heal spell.
>>3838624>Basically shards + maxing all sub classes on a character that gives you your 300% aptitudes.Oh and forgot the most crucial part after maxing all sub classes. Once you maxed them all on 1 character you want to reincarnate that character and put them in a fully max Elite Four squad. That's where you get a crap ton of stats. When you relevel a character back to lvl 9999 in the Elite Four squad(which is easy to do even with reduced exp) + maxed all sub classes, is going to give you around 1-2mil in all stats not counting HP and SP as those will be much higher. The rest of your stats will come from shards and lastly gear.So the shard farming also helps with leveling the Elite 4 squad as you not only gain a bunch of shards but also a crap ton of high level prisoners. So you're knocking out 2 birds with 1 stone especially if you can farm in Carnage.
>>3839090Well, that was painful. I'm grateful for holding my hand through this.
>>3839128Forgot to say that, once you do get this going this is relatively smooth, the only thing that turned out to be a massive pain in the ass was to go back to Pleinair every single fucking times
>>3763557Well just incase anons don't know there is also a Disgaea thread on >>>/vmg/1501381 I'm mentioning and linking each other since Disgaea fans are scattered

Has anyone ITT played Disgaea Infinite? It's pretty wild.
>>3839722I have, back in the PSP's heyday. I remember playing it long before I played D3 and didn't know any of the D3 characters.
My genuine opinion about this series:I love the stylistic choices, I love the artstyle, I LOVE the spritework (they were better and more expressive before d4 tho), I love all the different classes and how they're all unique and have awesome passives that justify their use alone, I love all the variety and options you have to approach combat, I love the sheer amount of customization and optimization you have by letting any class use any weapon and any skill and specialize in any skill......and I hate that once you get far enough in the game, it all becomes fucking pointless. These are strategy games, but strategy becomes obsolete because everything dies in one hit anyway. Can't beat an enemy? Just go grind for another few thousand levels until you can oneshot it. All the cool and tactical abilities you took time to acquire are rendered moot because it all comes down to raw power, which you acquire by mindlessly playing the same mindlessly easy level over and over again to inflate those numbers. The devs' solution to this? Create a system to let the game literally play itself, kek. Love Disgaea, but wish the gameplay didn't invalidate itself (and the story wasn't always cheesy schlock)
>>3839722I did, it was really fun but I didn't 100% it or anything >>3839811I played it after 2, but I hadn't played 1 or 3. I remember being a bit upset at the time that the game was all 1 and (some) 3I replayed it after beating those though and it was a lot more enjoyable
>>3763557i think the characters and general aesthetic are fun but i always get bored a few hours into post game and lose interest i think the only games i ever beat actually finished the post game in despite playing them all were 1 and 3
PAM PAPAPAAAAAAAH
>>3763557Sure, haven't tried any past 5. I find if the cast is way too annoying, I can't really enjoy it. Like Disgaea 2, hated that cast which is funny because it was the one I started with.
>>3840487I'll have him be my main physical attacker when I go back to playing 5
>>3840670LEVEL UP DAYOO~
Disgaea 7, yay or nay?
>>3840704sushy!
>>3840703exactly
>>3834896depending on game there are features that heighten up the innocent spawn rate
>>3837311usually just generics and maybe the main character the exception is of course Desco
>D5>gotta grind each and every sub class to master per character if I want to even stand a chance at post game>enter exp grinding map>max sub class>leave map>change sub class>enter map again>max another sub class>leave map>change sub class>repeat 47 times per characterHonestly I like grinding but the tediousness of D5 is preventing me from calling it the better Disgaea post game. Yeah its a lot better than previous entries but there's also a lot of little stuff that's just tedious just for the sake of being tedious. Like there's no reason for them not to streamline this better. The real insult is how there's no proper way to sort your evilitys after maxing a lot of your sub classes.
>>3835040>>3834833>Unpopular opinionI liked DD2, the story was funny, the main cast is the interesting one and that is enoughAll disgaea games play the same anyways

>>3763557playin 5 rn enjoying it a lot 5 episodes in. today i realised that this loli thread on the board was for disgaea
After 85 hours of gameplay I literally just finished it earlier today. On a CRT, the sprites are sooo beautiful. Very attractive game.
>>3842097Disgaea 1 I mean. And I just started Disgaea 2.
Do spells add debuffs? In Disgaea 5 I have some maxed deduffing innocents like poison and such and was wondering if the debuff applies to spells or just normal attacking.
>>3842197Normal attacks only
>>3842097>only 85 hoursYou didn't beat the game.
>>3763557Pedos must go.
>>3842342Dude, every demon in that game is like 10 times your age. They even go to school just because they're bored and have nothing else to do.
>>3842342No idea where all this self-hatred comes from but make sure to livestream your suicide.
>>384233785 hours is enough to get through most of the post-game in D1, the Disgaea series may be known for having hundreds of hours of grinding but Disgaea 1 has so little post-game content and mechanics compared to the latter entries that it shouldn't take 100 hours to 100% it.It took me almost 60 hours to get through the main story on my first playthrough of D1 but that was because I didn't know what I was doing.Second playthrough I'm starting Etna mode after beating Baal 60 hours in.Someone could probably casually 100% the game in less than 20 hours if they abuse the fuck out of the monster capturing system.
Recently got into La Pucelle and I'm enjoying it but I noticed that I get stats on level up based on the equipped items. Is it possible to actually BRICK a character if I level it a lot without items equipped?
Bump limit here we go.
That was a good thread, dood.

Just go full Crim mode

I've been playing phantom brave for the first time and i gotta say i hate the "movement" in this game.Height requirements with platforms everywhere and slippery movement screwing up any attack positioning, i can only assume the sequel has some good QoL to it right? im enjoying it regardless
Since other anons are talking about non-Disgaea NIS games...I played Rhapsody (PS1) recently. The beginning is full of quality, effort, etc... but good lord, the ending was rushed and the midgame is all filler. Nothing but a dozen copy-paste dungeons using the same 2 tilesets tinted in slightly different colors. Not to mention key items that do nothing and no rewards for completing the puppet quests. They clearly ran out of budget. If only it could have maintained this level of quality throughout the entire game: https://files.catbox.moe/euvla4.webm
>>3844113I was playing Makai kingdom recently for the first time in years and was awed at how less retarded the movement was compared to phantom brave, especially since they can't just steal your weapons without specific itemswhoever thought "slippery" floors was a good idea should be shotthough I think the Phantom Brave sequel removed the OB penalty which I always thought was bullshit>if you OB the enemy they level up>if you get OB'd you loss a slot
God item grinding is painfully slow in D5, spent a week on this trap and barely halfway done. I don't remember it being this bad in the earlier games.
>>3844412I actually like item world so it's cool with me
You do give your maid the yandere personality, right anon?
>>3844528I like item world too but in 5 it feels like it just drags on. Not to mention the setup required to make a team that can take on 20 star difficulty carnage item world for kill bonus. Previous games I at least had multiple maxed gear and be done at floor 100 in the time it took me to max just 1 item. Idk maybe I'm doing something wrong.
This is much faster than I was anticapating it to be.
