Any hot takes on deltarune?
Suselle fucking sucks but that’s not exactly a hot take so I’ll just say that I’m really burnt out on the ACT part of the battle system at this point. At least when you FIGHT you have to time the attack to get more damage.
Sometimes it feels like Toby browses these threads and writes the game specifically to maximize making anons angry or just disappointed.
>>3805656I don't want to fuck any Undertale characters.
>>3805656It's gay
>>3805656I played chapter 1 when it came out, but I've made the decision to not touch the rest of it until the entire game is complete. I likely won't play deltarune for another 5 years at least.
>>3805656Use the motherfucking catalog you retarded piece of shit.
Weird route should have been added later as a patch to all chapters. It might end up having some reveal or some shit that's meant to be revealed in chapter 7 but it'll be ruined because of it'll get revealed way early in weird route.
>>3805675>>3806467Do the right thing, Toby.
toby's spending too much time on shit that doesn't matter and that will make it come out way slower than it shouldtenna did not need to be a 3d model, for one
>>3806590deltarune threads are better than elderscrolls fallout threads thoughbeit so it's not a problem
>>3806958why do you not like cool things
>>3807104It's cool, don't get me wrong, but now that Deltarune is a product with a price tag and is unfinished it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If he's willing to go the extra mile and add hours of work for something that could've gotten the point across with a normal sprite, I worry about how long the wait for the full game will be.
>>3805656Too much talking, very shallow RPGing
>>3806958I agree like he could have done so much more instead of wasting time in stuff like the Mike fight. Idk I just wish the game was releasing more quickly it's taking way too long. I mean at least we get ch5 in 2026. But remember we had to wait 4 YEARS of having no new chapters at all.
>>3807287This. And doesn't belong in /vrpg/Cool beans, Toby, but doesn't like he wants to make a serious game
Ive played all 4 chaptersI think it should have been a Visual Novel instead, the gameplay isnt fun, I just want to know who gets to fuck who in the end.
>>3806479I agree. They should have sex with each other instead.
>>3807526Blame /v/ jannies for all the deltafugees
>>3807516>>3806958why are you so impatient?Do you plan on killing yourself soon or something?
>>3809032Impatient is when you see a dev take almost 10 years to release about half of a commercial 2D pixel art game with multiple assistants in current year and go "damn this guy is kinda wasting his time in some aspects."I've seen this song and dance with dozens of indie projects before, they waste their time on small details and before they know it ten years have gone by. I'd be less critical if he wasn't already slapping a pricetag on it too.
>>3805656There's a thread already retard >>3804216
>>3809079do you think you haven't already gotten 25 dollars worth of enjoyment out of the game? I just don't feel that's the case (assuming you bought the game and didn't pirate it, which at that point why would you even care about the price).I don't think the small details are a waste, they're very important to the shape of the game.
>>3807613Given that we know that ralsei is a doormat, i think ralsei saying the "parents know best" line makes more sense
>>3809289>ralsei is a doormatHow DARE you! He's a scarf at least.
>>3809101The problem with charging for an incomplete video game is it allows the dev to be more relaxed on the urgency to complete it, there's tons of early access games that have been in early access forever and it doesn't matter how enjoyable I've found the incomplete version. I want to see the story fully realized or I'm not going to be satisfied.I haven't bought the game because I don't wanna waste my hard earned cash on something that took 10 years to half finish, it makes me lose faith in the final version coming out. I did play chapters 1-2 though, both immediately after they released.

>>3805675Game needs the option to run from fights.
>>3809968>no ladderfake
>>3805675I can see how you feel that way. There’s only ever a few options for ACTs so sparing your enemies at all isn’t a puzzle anymore. The only puzzle from it is figuring out how to do it most efficiently, which is already present with attacking, so it’s just an alternative healthbar.
i think its funny how may people take everything at face value immediately>THE APARTMENT BUNNY MEANS THAT HUMANS AND MONSTERS WORK DIFFERENTLY!>NUH UH SUSIE BLED IN THE DARK WORLD! THAT MEANS THEY'RE THE SAME!when in reality both of these are unreliable as fuck. one's a retarded child, the other's tainted with dark world bullshittery.the only meaningful evidence we have twoards how monsters and humans work is magic exclusive biology (floating hands and orbs, fire elementals) and monsters still dusting on death.
>>3812768>monsters still dusting on death.ironically you are taking it at face valuesusie's line doesn't confirm if monsters turn to dust, or are cremated upon dying
>>3812789amazing, yeah. its just heavily implied because burial rituals are still the same (dust spread on a monster's favorite object)we know literally nothing except for the fact that magic exclusive biology is still a thing. which on its own COULD be handwaved. but who fuckin knows at this point.people also point to the presence of bathrooms as proof that monster biology is different than undertale, but its semi-confirmed in undertale that if they had access to physical food they'd need to use the bathroom (the one monster in grillby's that says that surface food just 'goes right through' monsters)

I listed all my favorite tracks from each chapter, and then made a top 5 out of them. Personally, chapter 3 was musically the strongest of the four. There's so many great variations of the Tenna tracks, and all the creepy 8-bit content on the path to the mantle offers an excellent contrast. The other chapters all have something great to offer in their own way. Chapter 1 is lean on quantity, but has some of my favorite music period. Chapter 2 has Spamton and just a ton of fun tracks. Chapter 4 has a high ratio of heavy hitters, I'd argue it might be the second best musically. Though I'm sure if I ranked all these without sorting them into chapters, each chapter would have a top contender.
If anyone wants to add an image on the undertale memories website:Step 1: Create a new .txt fileStep 2: Copy and paste the code from https://pastebin.com/mvhNm7d0 into the fileStep 3: Change the file extension to .htmlStep 4: Run itStep 5: Attach an image and copy the output textStep 6: Copy and paste it into the giant array of zeros and ones in the inspect element menu, as shown in the screenshotStep 7: Hit enter

>>3805675the nature of the system makes it inherently kind of shit. It worked in Undertale because it was novel and because there was only one party member and they made them kind of puzzle-like. In Deltarune, the fact that you have multiple party members necessitated that they be able to interact with the ACT system in some way, which prevented the inclusion of the puzzle-elements. Every ACT option is now just "Kris ACTs and fills up the mercy bar a little bit, or multiple party members ACT and fill it up a lot." It's equivalent to FIGHTing in terms of complexity. And the focus on ACTing also makes FIGHTing uninteresting. Functionally, FIGHTing is just hitting the fight button over and over again. The only regular party member who has a non-standard way of dealing damage is Susie, who can just do Rude Buster occasionally for a little extra damage. Neither version is interesting. Also unlike Undertale, there aren't really major story ramifications for FIGHTing versus ACTing so far. Weird route is its own thing, but just beating up monsters instead of sparing them has no effect beyond a couple of scenes.
>>3813489Actually Id argue Deltarune made FIGHTing MORE complex and interesting than Undertale as a result of its party system. While weapons dont inherently change the attack bar now having multiple party members FIGHT at once means you have to time multiple bars going at potentially different paces. And while it's just the one attack spell, Rude Buster gives you something to think about while fighting since you can either just keep spamming fight and being good enough to graze a ton of bullets, or play safer and have someone defend to keep building up TP for it. Though honestly nothing has topped Jevil's fight for an interesting Violent Fight thus far, since there ACTs, namely Pirouette, that can help for both types of fights instead of just filling the mercy bar and ending the statement there. It's not random so you can memorize the turns that have good effects, and depending on how you've been playing you may have to decide between taking advantage of it or recovering.I genuinely thought the game would make a point of this later if Berdly ever became a party member, but that was the chapter 2 days so that wouldnt exactly fit with whats going on anymore
>>3813479The unanimously agreed upon best and most epic fight in Undertale is with the guy who spends the entire game making stupid jokes. This is the same guy who made "tl;dr: eat shit faggots" the last thing a final boss says to you before trying to kill you. Tobyfox has never taken anything seriously when it comes to cool factor.
>>3813579To be fair, at least Sans has his "Youd be dead where you stand" moment and him getting more and more fed up with you in snowdin on geno. So far anything potentially serious Rouxls has had thus far like him literally changing the ui is still treated as a joke
Aw shit, here we go again.
>>3813583how about:rouxls isnt gaster but hes a shard of gaster. The goofy side of gaster
Reminder he's so butthurt he's giving people weeklong global bans for making deltarune threads.
>>3813755/v/ jannies have never used global bans properly, they should take that shit off of them
>>3813759unless something has changed, jannies shouldn't be capable of bans. thats mod work.
>>3813760same thing in the end, it's not like mods tend to moderate more than one board anyway
>>3813760So a mod basically caved to the janny whining
>>3813760at this point people just use janny and mod interchangeably. And there is one specific moderator, and literally just one, that has a vendetta against deltarune threads.
>>3813762isn't Abib a mod in the first place, I've assume it was a mod with a vendetta for a long time.

Unofficial Russian translation for chapter 3 was released recently, watched it on stream since I already played chapter 3 twice.>Kris is still not gendered in any way>Knight is referred as "he">surprisingly tasteful local cultural references>Tenna was dubbed by a controversial e-celeb VA>they couldn't fit "Moloko" on a bottle so things took a weird routeThe most interesting part was the name input scene. All the juiciest Russian swear words are 3-letter long, so they had to change Tenna's lines accordingly ("Censors wanted to limit you to 2, I could barely change their mind"). Unfortunately, the words of equivalent strength to "ASS" are all 4-letter long, so Susie had to use the equivalent of "Bottom" as her name. Still, it was fun seeing streamers trying every swear word they could and getting thwarted every time.
>>3813780>Knight is referred as "he"that's a rather daring decision considering our list of suspects
>>3813782Russian language doesn't have gender-neutral pronouns and the word "Knight" is intrinsically male, so there's no choice. IIRC, only Susie ever referred to Knight as "they", and she has no idea who could it be, so she wouldn't suspect Knight to be female.
>>3813786does russian not have anything like "it" then either? seem to recall they call the knight it a few times
>>3813787Every noun in Russian is gendered, so you can only apply "it" to the nouns that are specifically neuter-gendered.
>>3813787We do have "it", but it's not so simple. I can't think of any instance where even an animal is referred to as "it", let alone a person.
>>3813921>I can't think of any instance where even an animal is referred to as "it", let alone a person"Animal" itself is an example ("Живoтнoe"). There's also "Чyдoвищe".
>>3813925That's abstract. I meant specific species.
>>3813770Burgerpants (Pizzapants?) is sorta cool I like that he treats Kris like a person from the start
Saw this in a /v/ thread and wanted to add that the Spamton NEO battle theme also has something alluding to hands as well.https://voca.ro/1heatfunrqFV>Change is coming from the inside of the phone>A hand that plays until you're all alone>It pulls strings and makes them ring>Until your heart turns to red, ah.I haven't kept up with speculation on this since chapter 2 released, so I could have just missed it, but I haven't seen anyone mention BIG SHOT in relation to the ongoing hand motif in the story and thought I'd bring it up.
>>3813770Susie and Ralsei. They carry the game.
>>3813770It was kinda ruined by Kress shippers, but I really like the hints of dynamic between Kris and Dess/Knight.
>>3814023worrying about shippers when you're thinking about character dynamics will just ruin all of them for you if you let it
>>3813768Occasionally he'll step on another mod's toes and get slapped for it.
>>3805656Chapter 3 and 4 sucked and killed my hype for the rest of the game. I don't regret buying the game though since I really liked Chapter 2.
>>3814148what did you not like about the new chapters/direction the story is heading?
>>3814151Lot of things. Chapter 3 initially I thought the Zelda gameplay was cool but it really dragged on and overstayed its welcome, I thought Tenna was a shittier version of Spamton and I didn't like the minigames, it was dull but Chapter 4 was far worse. I really really didn't like the direction Chapter 4 took, it felt like a really shitty JRPG. The whole stuff with Ralsei and the prophecy, Gerson and Susie, and Susie's shitty "healing arc" that gets resolved in like 10 minutes, all felt very trite and stale if you've played literally any other videogame in your life. Also, while I think the writing was always like this but I could ignore it since Chapter 2 was funny as fuck, I have to admit that Toby's writing flat out sucks and makes any dramatic scene that he tries to write feel like a cheap anime. People say that Toby writes like a translated Japanese person and it really shows, can someone tell him that there are other ways to convey dramatic dialogue without spamming "......" after every word or phrase? The fact that Chapter 4 is praised so highly makes me think I probably won't like Deltarune at the end of the day. I think the only reason I liked Chapter 2 so much was because it reminded me of Homestuck.
>>3814166>Susie's shitty "healing arc" that gets resolved in like 10 minutes, all felt very trite and stale if you've played literally any other videogame in your lifeThis in particular I disliked, not enough to hate it outright because Gerson is still cool but the entire jackenstein scene was just a template scene with the names filled in.>"Mentor figure teaches unconfident student thing, student is unsure they can do it, mentor pushes them into accidentally solving the problem with thing, vanishes mysteriously so the student cant shift credit"
>>3814166Toby is a weeb and all his major inspirations are weeb games.
>>3814166>that there are other ways to convey dramatic dialogue without spamming "......" after every word or phrase?I like this, it's very common in RPGs. I think you have to find RPG tropes at least a bit endearing to enjoy this game.
>>3814166>>3814216I probably enjoy the game far more not having played (other) JRPGs or watched much anime, as still feels fresh for me due to not being overexposed to these tropes. As for Susie's healing arc, maybe it did get resolved too quickly but it technically started in Chapter 2. I liked how the telescope showed her practicing when nobody else was looking, which made her progress feel less contrived. In terms of gameplay we're probably looking at a major shakeup in Chapter 5 whereby Susie becomes the main healer and Ralsei shifts to fighting, or maybe gets swapped out for Noelle.
>>3814331Jockington and Catti chapter anon, believe in it
>>3814331>Ralsei shifts to fightingThe idea of this is hilarious to me because we're talking about the fandom that saw a gaint being of pure darkness and was outright told it cant understand the concept of mercy and still didnt resort to fighting. If Ralsei learns offensive Pyromancy I guarantee you no one is going to use it even when explictly told to for his arc, and outside that if his healing dips below Susie's he's just going to be deadweight outside boss fights because recruits. Unless Toby decides to make a chapter where you have to fight every enemy which again, I wont dislike but that's going to be fucking hilarious to see everyone else fail to realize
>>3813957Why hasn't Honky Tony fixed the pixels over Susie's left eye on the bottom-most portrait?
>>3814358I mean when Toby's last game was all about sparing every enemy no matter what, and this one kinda punishes you for not being merciful enough post-Chapter 1 (locking you out of recruit content, killing off Tenna and Jackenstein) I can understand why someone would autistically refuse to fight even when the game points to it being the only option with neon signs
>>3814166>>3814216Toby doesn't excel at writing or game design or anything else. He excels at music, genre savvyness and mashing together popular tropes that hit just the right buttons amongst fandom people. Turn off your brain and enjoy cartoon and jrpg tropes at their purest.
>>3814335Irrelevant characters, sorry.

>>3805656I said it before but I don't want these things to be the 6 fallen humans (forma de flower). They're going to be important and probably dump a shitton of context on what exactly went wrong in Asgore's life, but I'm dreading that they'd be exact counterparts to the 6 fallen, down to their equipment, and then for the rest of time any interpretations of them in UT would "have to be" a copy-and-paste of their Deltarune counterparts. It would never stop pissing me off.
>>3815497Remember how in the ending of undertale you get that lore dump right before meeting Asgore?Remember how in Genocide it's replaced with a bunch of Flowey encounters? These fuckers are going to lore dump on us before we fight asgore in the 2nd floor, and hes fighting us to keep us from opening the door to the locked room up there (The Barrier)
>>3815497Knowing the fandom, they won't be, but the fans will act as if they are anyway. >>3815981And I'm not sure I'd call her kind, because her ballerina tutu is described as "dusty" by Papyrus
>>3815981Anon, this discussion is about what the fan interpretations will be. They have already attached traits to each human based on the mini-golf thing in Snowdin. They will attribute "integrity" to the blue flower and "kindness" to the green flower, regardless of how they're actually depicted in the game itself. Because this discussion is not about what Toby will do, but what the fanbase will do.
>>3815999there's also a box of dusty shoes in toriel's house to be fair, not every instance of dust means monster death
>>3815999Japanese version already made it clear it's regular dust. It's the fandom that's obsessed with dust.>>3816005All Toby did was associate traits to the SOULs, but their equipment shows far more of their personality than one singular trait from the ball game. This is just people being reductive as usual.
>>3816014Toby has put so much emphasis on the ball game, so much so that typing "Ball" on undertale's title has an associated easter egg, thats its frankly retarded to say the equipment means more than it
>>3816032He hasn't given emphasis to it, though. At all. An Easter Egg that 99% of the players will never see doesn't prove anything. Meanwhile the Omega Flowey fight has the SOUL segments enterily based on their equipment. Plus, "integrity" is just a trait, a trait that the "elegant" blue flower could still show
Some mysteries that still bug me:What happened when the shelter door opened at the end of Chapter 3 when Kris was alone? Did he go inside? For that matter, why does the SOUL "black out" at certain intervals, like between chapters and when Kris knelt before the knight? Do we lose "SOUL charge" over time or something? How did Mr. Cattenheimer lose his arm?
>>3816124>What happened when the shelter door opened at the end of Chapter 3 when Kris was alone? Did he go inside?afaik, all we know is>Kris didnt return to the house along with Susie>Susie didnt find it suspicious, even when Kris wasnt present to fix Tenna with her>He returned before the fountain was sealed, and managed to seal it without our controlKris doesnt want to go in there, and he doesnt want us seeing whats in there, so the only bet I have is something or someone (Likely the knight, maybe someone else) cut his connection from us temporarily to communicate the next phase of their plan and they've been doing this since chapter 1, rather than Kris actually entering at allI doubt us losing connection is a natural occurance or failure on our part, because we can absolutely maintain control throughout a night. We're still in control at 1 am in chapter 4, and we never actually black out after chapter 2 since it leads directly into 3. Something is intentionally cutting us off from the world when its convenient
>>3816124>What happened when the shelter door opened at the end of Chapter 3 when Kris was alone? Did he go inside?Probably went there for debriefing.>For that matter, why does the SOUL "black out" at certain intervals, like between chapters Since we're accessing this world through Gaster's interface, he decides which moments require our intervention.>when Kris knelt before the knight? That's him closing the eyes, probably. >How did Mr. Cattenheimer lose his arm?If my theory is correct, there was another (failed) attempt to fulfill the prophecy in the previous generation. If that is true, Cat Dad played the same role as Berdly - don't forget that one of the possible outcomes for him is injured arm.
>>3816124>For that matter, why does the SOUL "black out" at certain intervals, like between chapters and when Kris knelt before the knight? It doesn't. It's just for drama but it isn't diagetic, Kris still has to remove the SOUL off-screen to be "himself".Once more people take the red pill that the SOUL can move without player input everything would make more sense
>>3816168>the SOUL can move without player inputTRANCE
>>3816124Kris can close his eyes and black out your vision, which also gives him some more control. See the Gerson Tea scene.
>>3816140>and we never actually black out after chapter 2 since it leads directly into 3We do black out after chapter 2, because the interim is when Kris sets up his plan with Tenna, and on snowgrave goes for Berdly and Noelle.
>>3813755>weeklong global bans for DARING to talk about videogames on the videogame boardholy fuck lmao.hardly the most pathetic janny melty, but its getting pretty high up on the list.
>>3817043He talks to Tenna in-between Chapters 1 and 2 in the Light World, and the Snowgrave stuff takes place between 3 and 4.
>>3805656>hot takes on deltarunemight seem weird but a part of me wishes there was a little more variety in actual fightingthere's a neat element in the off remake demo where you can get critical hits with a little visual effect on your action gauge and while it works a little differently i think something similar could be really cool for deltarunenot that i'm necessarily against what we have right now or anything i just think maybe giving a little more sauce would be fun
>>3817125Aren't critical hits already in the game? If you land a perfect hit you deal a bunch more damage. I agree though. Maybe if there were multiple fight moves? But that's filled by ACT specific actions like x-slash and the buster moves. There are numerous hints of Kris losing a hand at some point in the game. It might be metaphorical for losing control, but if it was literal it wouldn't be too surprising (after all, Star Wars and LISA did it, and even Earthbound in a temporary capacity). It would also be a dramatic ramp up in stakes; Chapter 2 showed that you can sustain actual injury in dark worlds, and Chapter 4 emphasized that further with bleeding. Kris losing his hand would cripple him until he found a workaround. How do you think he will lose it? In the normal route it might be a vicious enemy or boss, and this spurs Susie and Ralsie to fight harder. In the weird route it might be us after gaining control of our vessel and/or Noelle; Kris tries to stop us but we need him alive so we command Noelle to freeze his hand off. Either way it could be a defining moment and it will probably happen in Chapter 6.
>>3817128>Aren't critical hits already in the game?oh no yeah they are if you perfectly time it, i'm thinking something more like. i guess the potential for a "critical-er" hit lol>Maybe if there were multiple fight moves? But that's filled by ACT specific actions like x-slash and the buster moves.to be fair i think the issue with the ACT actions is that it's just an input, maybe even just altered timing or something for the attack slider would be niceas is it's like oh yeah x-slash is here press it badabing you're done
>>3817128The game can be really involved with its fighting when it wants to and have a bit of variety, but that's where the problem lies. "When it wants to."Back in chapter 1-2 it made sense, but its quickly feeling like the ACT system is there to keep Undertale fans reeled in. But now, we have enemies we know we cant spare, and an antagonist that for all intents and purposes has no reason to be spared beyond a brat who wants things to get worse likely being upset if we dont spare them. With the stakes as high as theyre getting, worlds filled with enemies that have no desire to fight you or justifible reason to be struck down are getting more and more out of place. What will losing Kris' hand do if 90% of the enemies dont want to take advantage of that weakness?
>>3817145had a thought on this actually; what if there was some kind of system where you could "slam" the cursor with a second button-press, which made the cursor seemingly "catch fire" and move much faster - but increases the damage output across the board with the caveat of a (minor) tp cost?i suppose the issue that comes to mind is elegance - as is, the system's literally just "time your button press" and works with all three - but perhaps you could have one button act as a "slam" (x, maybe?) or even a particular region on the edge of the "lines"then again that's just a minor addition into a system that probably needs a lot more work across the board really oh well
>>3817128>>3817174>>3817202mind if i shill my fangame quick and yap? improving the battle system's concepts has been one of the big things im doing.

>>3817210alright cool. deltarune yellow anon2 from the yellow threads. (QRD, DRYanon1 made the first iteration, dropped it for a while, i picked up some sprites, he came back and put out a chapter and a half, and now we are both working on our own takes)i've been generally improving it from top to bottom.starting with the big one>the justice systemtl;dr: goal here is to add another layer to ACTing, and also make it so that there are actual ACT puzzles again like undertale had.given the yellow soul = justice thing, i wanted to tie it into the battle system.so almost every darkner will be guilty of something, ranging from crimes so simple that its not even worth a slap on the wrist to something severe enough that it may justify execution (single digit amount of darkners in this category!)there's regular ACT sparing (no crime/insignificant), warning (petty/minor crime), apprehending (severe crime), and execution (unforgiveable crime)the human (cole (clover + kris name treatment = cole)) has a secondary act menu just for justice acts related to the system.most encounters will revolve around calming a darkner down with regular acts, and then ending the battle with justice acts if they're guilty of a crime, some apprehension battles will require justice acts while you're calming a darkner down.>split spell menussince the human has two act menus, monsters have two spell menus to maintain symmetry. one's for offensive spells, one's for support spells, meaning up to 12 spells per character. already have full lists planned out for every character.>action orderpic related.since you cant determine party order, the next best thing is splitting up the order of actions into stages.a short elaboration for the order justification here >>3812511(also looking for comments/feedback on the order if anyone has any)1/2>>3817212yeah, just figured it'd be reasonable to bring up here since the convo popped up.
>>3817230>TP act/spell queueingquite a few acts that cost TP in deltarune kinda fall flat because you can end most turns in 1-2 turns regardless. and you cant pull them out on turn 1 due to kris going first.to remedy this, a TP act or spell can be queued even if you dont have enough TP, and the next party members can give you that TP through acts or items. if you dont have enough ending the last character's turn, you wont be able to proceed and will need to either cancel the TP act/spell or get more TP.>stricter healing + utility itemsif you ask me, healing's too free in deltarune. especially since you have multiple party membersin undertale it was fairly balanced since you had to choose between healing or progressing the fight, but now with 2+ party members and act centric battle progression you have two heal bots.so instead:>>healing spells will heal much less for the TP they need, but will still be present for an emergency>>you wont have reliable access to one at any given time (for a reliable heal thats always present, you can instead make the human hug other party members until they are uncomfortable. this is limited to a per chapter basis.)>>healing items will be less common>>in their place you have more utility items that have unique effects. more TP gain items, unique battle effects like making the next turn easier or increasing spare% gained, things that you want to sacrifice healing item slots for.>>an optional "hard" mode that makes healing spells have limited usage per battle and removes the healing from some saves>>an optional "easy" mode that loosens up healing restrictions to be more in line with deltarune, coward.ideally, this'll all result in a bit more strategy with TP and items than it all being a healing thing for the most part2/3, forgot another thing
>>3817231>"weak" and lethal damagethese are related to the element system, dont wanna talk about that as a whole too much but these are fine"weak" damage cannot down a party member or cause an enemy to flee. the ideal case here is to help make fighting to make enemies tired a bit more viable. only the human has access to a "weak" damage source by default, but other party members can gain a "weak" damage source lethal damage is as the name implies, it can kill darkners and is only wielded by the player party. each party member has one source of lethal damage.nothing weird here, you're genosliding for your evil route.>enemy targetingso to preface the first part of this block: (you) do not exist the same way as you do in UT/DR. there's not much you can do with that without retelling the same thing.you do not override anyone.a part of this is that the souls of other party members can enter the battle box.enemies will select a main target every turn, the main target's soul will enter the battle box.the yellow soul human has his regular yellow soul. and the monsters have white upside down souls (yes i am acting on the assumption that the rules are the same as UT, we genuinely dont have anything definitive that says if they are the same or not. its annoying but i have plans for any bullshit toby could throw at me, including soul colors for the monster party members if they work the same as human souls.)when the human gets his soul mode, other party members will get their own soul color themed soul modes for if they are targeted.you'll be able to see targets on your turn, and enemy damage is buffed a little bit to compensate.so you have a choice of playing it safe and defending with the targeted party members to reduce any damage they make take, or to play it risky and use them to progress the battle, risking high damage against the respective party members.anyways its 2:30 am, i probably scuffed part of this lemme know if anything seems off.

>>3817449Probably doesn't contribute much, but it feels to me that the threads that start with a proper topic or question relating to Deltarune tend to last longer before the janny has a melty.
>>3805656Combat is by and far balanced drastically worse then Undertale. In Undertale every fight feels tailored to your character. In Deltarune you can minmax builds and aboslutely fuck every enemy. I missed this sick ass Titan laser attack because I destroyed it too fast on accident with the obscenely overpowered Black Shard and seeing this would have made me think far more fondly of the otherwise mediocre fight. You can also skip over half of the Roaring Knight's attacks. The weapons and rudebuster are way, way overtunedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTWjeN23bv4&t=1024s
>>3814166It's bizarre to me because Chapter 4 is extremely impressive visually and musically. The seccond and third sanctuaries. especially the gallery room and the introductory room for the third are visually outstanding. But the writing is atrocious outside of the egg room stuff and the cryptic NPC dialogue. The interactions between Susie and Gerson/Ralsei are way cornier then anything else in the game so far
>>3817706Timestamp seems fucked, go to 17:04
>>3817706Bro most of the target audience died to the Titan at least once because they refused to believe they had to actually fight it. No shit you're going to be overtuned when you, in the context of the in-game narrative, perform a monumentally fate-altering feat by lasting long enough against the Knight to get the crystal/shard.And don't pretend 95% of Undertale wasn't a fucking snoozefest either, the only difference is brute forcing the act options to mercy them.
For me, it's ERAM.
>>3817744>Bomberman formPerfection, no wonder I loved her boss fight so much, she's bomber-coded.
>>3817744>bomberamcute design honestly
>>3817740This. If you're playing blind it's extremely unlikely you're going to get the Black Shard. Not only is it almost impossible if you don't get two S-ranks (which aren't hard in of themselves, but on a blind playthrough you might mess up like I did and not know the significance), but the first time you lose to the knight you're put into the scripted cutscene and you have to reload your save to get the chance to fight again. The secret bosses give you powerful gear as a reward for figuring out how to find them (or lazily looking them up) and putting in the effort to beat them. Meanwhile the rest of the game is balanced around not having that powerful loot so you're not blocked from progressing for missing anything. Maybe at the end of Deltarune you'll need the absolute best gear to "win" at all, but in the meantime it's just unlocking easy mode.If you want to challenge yourself just unequip those items.
deltarune threads are deletion on sight but it's okay for there to be a permanent hat kid thread.
>>3817740I'm talking less about difficulty and moresoe the fact that you can accidentally miss half the content in boss fights by pressing the buttons you're intended to press
>>3817759>If you want to challenge yourself just unequip those items.I'm not looking for a self imposed challenge I'm looking to not miss the coolest setpiece in the current final fight of the game on my first playthrough subsequently making the fight lamer because Toby didn't think to force final attacks outside of the Knight fight
>>3818245Continuing, you also shouldn't be rewarded with going out of your way to look for cool shit with a weapon that will accidentally make you miss cool shit because you put too much faith in Toby to continue the status quo set by the Tenna fight, the Knight fight, and the Gerson fight of actually making sure you don't miss the final attack by being too good at the game

Are there any good video essays on Deltarune out there? Normally I like video essays but with this game there's a higher-than-average chance that any given one just rehashes theories from here, or lectures viewers on how ackshually Kris is non-binary and this is important despite never being mentioned once.

Just finished Chapter 4. Twas a great time. As for hot takes, let's see. I like fighting whenever I can. I enjoy beating up the darkners and refusing to let them join my town. Total darkner annihilation.

>>3822029I knew this for a while.
>>3820760Its funny that the whole "Freedom of choice" situation technically ends poorly on both sides. Everyone in Deltarune, no matter what the story says, will never be free because they can only exist in the confines of a scripted game where anything close to Freedom they have is merely given to them rather than taken, meaning they were destined to take whatever path they end up on. Whereas on our side, while we have the choice to decide the path ultimately we arent carving any new ones, and we can never make the puppets aware of their true lack of freedom for that knowledge is (right now anyway) not something they are meant to know, and thus never will. And because of puppets like Kris being programmed to remove us at set points, in those moments both of you lose more Freedom as Kris is stuck even harder to a script and you are stripped of your power to decide the path. No one truly wins, in the end the best they'll get is the falsehood of having attained "Freedom" and being cut from our strings only to live the rest of their minutes existing to the stricter puppeteer that is the script and we can only accept our fate as how it simply must be, a game has to be scripted in order to work, and we have to be happy having even one choice at all.
>>3822179How would people react if Toby wrote in a "True Freedom" ending where all characters no longer abide by a script but use AI to talk to each other? To prevent AI from going off the rails there would be no player input and they would be observable for only a short time. Let's presume for the sake of argument that the AI will be flawless and act entirely faithfully to how the characters are written.Well, we know how the anti-AI fanatics would react. But everyone else?
>>3822285The majority of the fanbase would be anti-AI """""fanatics"""""
>>3822285Well, you just described the problem yourself. "The AI" will act faithfully. It's not them, its ChatGPT being given the mask of the them. Even if it's an AI built from the ground up by Tobiathon "Fallout" Foxtrot, it's still something created to act a specific way and not allowed to deviate outside the pre-ordained boundaries. "Susie" will never be able to grow into a better person because a better person would not be Susie, "Ralsei" will never think for himself because he's being told how Ralsei would think and thinking otherwise is failing it's purpose.
>>3821941My favorite darkner is Spamton. Unfortunately because I beat him up I only got a little of his content on my playthrough, but I saw the rest online and it was great. Kris is my favorite lightner easy; the best silent protag in a long time, very creepy and uncanny, yet occasionally badass.

>>3825040my schizo take is also that the queen's chariot prophecy is about toriel's car and we will use it to run over a titan during the roaringthough since its called boss 1 it might be queen, but this could still happen with the gang taking queen's car and running over a titan later
>>3825056>though since its called boss 1 it might be queenSince Queen is listed as Boss 1 this means that the Card Kingdom was never supposed to happen and the Prophecy has been off the rails since the very beginning.

>>3825060I don't think King is even mentioned anywhere except Gerson's telling of Lord of the HammerAnd every OTHER currently-seen chapter he describes is explicitly a description of the secret boss route, not the main pathI find that interesting
>>3825270To elaborate on what I meanI mean King isn't mentioned in any other prophecies, not that he's never mentioned in the game in case that was unclearFor the Gerson descriptions matching the secret bosses:>The heroes do battle in chariots to save the QueenYou never have an actual fight while driving a car so the chariot would have to be a different vehicle, and it turns out we do have 2 fights in rollercoasters: Berdly and Spamton NEOThe "chariots" being the Thrash Machine and Giga Queen is a stretch imo, same with "saving the queen" being "saving her from herself by explaining the Roaring", but you know what WOULD unambiguously be saving Queen? Dealing with the guy who wants to kill everyone who's wronged him and just got a huge power boost.>The Isles of Northernlight - The heroes travel among the isles and catch a glimpse of a lost land"Northernlight" is a song in the Chapter 3 OST, one that only plays in the sword route game. The other part could probably apply to the normal board, but "a glimpse of a lost land" sounds like the island Tenna stops you from seeing if you veer off in the raft ride. Optional content that serves specifically as a sword route hint.>A great smith gives the heroes a terrible weaponThis one is the most obviously secret boss related because it's about the axe Susie is fighting Gerson for. The dialogue is meant to evoke a reaction of "oh shit, that's what we're doing right now" and this is literally FROM the secret boss. This makes the March of the Dark King a weird outlier because it's about the main path instead of Jevil or finding the Broken Keys that lead to him. Occam's razor could say that it's so you immediately understand it's meant to match the chapters even if you missed Jevil, but this still feels odd
>>3825270>>3825276Gerson said his books diverged from the Prophecy, both the library and church talk about how many copies of Lord of the Hammer there are, and chances are Ralsei himself is a book. Maybe what Ralsei thought they could avoid the Prophecy by deviating from Lord of the Hammer instead? Befriend the Dragon instead of stopping her, and avoiding the chariots and Northernlight (if you go to the northern area on Tenna's game, Ralsei is obviously freaked out over it).
>>3825270Chapter 2 description is of the main chapter.
>>3825278That's an interesting thought.Ralsei also wanted to avoid "defeating" the King like Lord of the Hammer says, pushing for pacifism the whole chapter and healing him when he gets tired/weakened.
>>3825060>>3825270gerson's telling also mentions susie as the dragon that was stopped.a few other notes>the prophecy panels dont talk about any optional content, every panel is about something you cannot skip.>gerson's telling is entirely optional content. you dont have to fight spamton in chariots, you dont have to go to northernlight, you dont have to fight gerson for the hammer.card kingdom AND susie's involvement as a hero are an anomaly in the "original" prohpecy. in the full game we will most likely get some timeloop shenanigans that allow us to ditch susie and chapter 1, likely by ending up as noelle's partner instead.gerson's version doesnt have an ending.
>>3825276>This one is the most obviously secret boss related because it's about the axe Susie is fighting Gerson forI think that's too easy a conclusion to draw, because you can also say this is refering to the Twisted Sword later on, since Malius will have to smith it for you once you have the ring and crystal and no matter what purpose it has chances are it will fall under "Terrible"
>>3825305That doesn't happen in Chapter 4, though.
fug
>>3825283>gerson's version doesnt have an endingThat's what Susie specifically asked for
I don't trust Toby to make Deltarune a legit rpg with a cool overworld map. It's just going to be episodic theory slop and they same fucking format over and over.

So here's the TRVTHNVKE: Deltarune's theorycrafters are poison to the community, trying to make the game about retarded 1-frame creepypasta slop like FRIEND, hitherto naratively irrelevant shit like Gaster, or giving themselves schizophrenia by analyzing Japanese sub fonts for secret loredrops
>>3826070
>>3826070you do realize that someone can both theory craft and be emotionally invested in the characters, right?most people obsessively theory craft SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE they are in love with EVERY ASPECT OF THE WORLD from the characters to the themes.
>>3826075So invested that you subscribe to Deltatune equivalents of Darth Jar Jar and Indoctrination Theory.
>>3826076no, i dont.kris knight was a secondary theory
>>3826078Point is, most theories lack firm ground. We *can* with certainty say that from a subset of possibilities, one of them will be true (eg Knight is probably one of 3-5 characters, aka Dess, Carol, Asgore, maaaybe some other few I forgot). But we ain't nailing it down 100%. And most theories are shit because they select such uncertain things as their foundation and stack on top more and more uncertainties.
>Carol is the Knight (The average player heading straight to the church and the resulting plothole was an unintended oversight)>Nothing supernatural happened to Dess, she just died from Kris accidentally killing her Omori style and Carol's plan is to revive her into a Dustner with the Roaring even though Darkners petrify in the Roaring but that's different okay, the ending is just everyone yelling "That's escapism!" and stopping her>FRIEND is just a heckin silly cat goober antagonist-of-the-week who's just a misunderstood goofball and isn't really evil, the connections between cats and the tail of hell and the circle-based cat game were all coincidental>Gaster and his "connection" are never explained and his presence remains as a spooky vagueposting invisible narrator for the whole game, we never get the Vessel>The "Angel's Heaven" is the player finishing the game and it ends with "move on from the game and don't replay it"
>>3826089>And most theories are shit because they select such uncertain things as their foundation and stack on top more and more uncertainties.you just dont get it, thats the fun part about schizo theories. making progressively more outlandish theories and using whatever you can to give them even a little foundation.
>>3826089>eg Knight is probably one of 3-5 characters, aka Dess, Carol, Asgore, maaaybe some other few I forgotIMO anyone who doesn't have a solid connection to Asriel should be ruled out because of the Hyper Goner reference, it'd make no sense for the reference to be there otherwise. So the only actual candidates are Dess, Asgore, Asriel himself and maybe Kris if you count that one weird theory that the Knight is like his Stand or something. And I really doubt it's Asgore, Asriel or Kris.
>>3826078Kris Knight was one of the few theories were they were right about a lot of things about the game. Heck, if the Knight has Kris's original SOUL then they were straight up right.
My hot takes:We are getting 11 chapters.Dess and Kris are the main antagonists of Deltarune.Friend shouldn't be a Flowey clone.
>>3826089>>3826114I think you guys are dismissing Rudy as the knight way too early
>>3826106>The average player heading straight to the church and the resulting plothole was an unintended oversightcute idea if noelle didn't acknowledge you fucking around and going on diner dates and tea parties before going to her houseif toby knew to account for THAT, he's not dumb enough to assume no one went straight to the place they were told to go to
>>3826237Rudy is dismissed often for a reason. He's only being unironically considered a possibility now because people think Dess and Carol would be too obvious, and that a story's only worth telling if you literally can't predict anything whatsoever. That everything has to come out of left field to be "surprising" at every corner instead of narratively coherent.Sure, he could be the knight and his illness is fake or caused by being the knight, but what would the point of it be besides making it an ebin shocking twist that no one saw coming? Why would the guy coughing on his hospital deathbed and struggling to attend church secretly be this mastermind who actively endangered his daughter he's been spending his last days having a fun time playing vidya with?
>>3826304>Why would the guy coughing on his hospital deathbed and struggling to attend church secretly be this mastermind who actively endangered his daughter he's been spending his last days having a fun time playing vidya with?Because he thinks he can get his other daughter back and knows how much of a detrimental effect her disappearance had on both families. Not saying Rudy makes sense as an option for practical reasons, but he'd definitely have a motive for it.
>>3826306Yeah I can see why he'd have the motive, I mainly meant "why would this be the direction the overarching story takes" rather than "what would the in-universe reason be"You could pull a new Holiday character out of your ass who's Noelle's grandma or something and she'd have just as much of a logical motive to go around fucking shit up to bring Dess back, it'd just still be dumb.

About the King discussion earlier - Remember King is a Kris-related Darkner if chapter 3 is anything to go by, King's personality was basically made by Kris, both good and bad parts, but the only person who could possibly have a good enough knowledge about this to manifest this in Chapter 1's dark world would be someone who played with Kris as a kidAlso explains why Undyne does NOT kick the Knight's ass the instant she's in the Light World and there are no Dark World stuff to stop her from doing so, unless it's Black shard shit: the second she sees who it is that is actually kidnapping her is enough of a shock to let her be captured in the bunker, meaning the police would have to be specifically looking for the Knight at some point for Undyne of all people to not kick up a fuss >>3825328>the reason it doesn't have an ending is because Gerson died right before completing his next book
>>3826547it was a repost
Sans/Asgore/DarknerFlowey fighting Ralsei 1v1 to teach him a lesson that ultimately makes him willing to use magic opposite to his team role is just the modern day equivalent of Toriel Firegraves Undyne theoriesIt's not gonna be the exact same thing the last chapter did again, why do people always think this
>>3826954toriel firegrave slop was better than what we got (literally nothing) for chapter 3
>>3805656we really need another story about a school bully becoming nice and to reheat the tired "kooky villain sets an inept trap that blows up to their bemusement" framework that Toby keeps pumping out.
A month away... 10 years.
>>3826954Yeah, Papyrus is obviously going to be the schizoboss. That, or FRIEND.
>>3826954Due to a combination of Susie not wanting to follow the Prophecy and Noelle coming back as a party member, Ralsei both gets benched and nobody is listening to him about what to do. As a result, he has a minor freakout thinking he has no purpose in the group and is just going to stay locked up in the castle town from now on. He ends up fighting the party and it ends with a forced mercy fight to calm him down where he shows off his fire magic. Unlike the other schizobosses, he's both a mandatory fight (unlike Jevil/Spamton/Gerson) and you need to actually beat him to progress the main story (unlike the Knight). After you beat him he reveals he's had the last Shadow Crystal the entire time, you get a new scarf that makes him useful, and you unlock the ability to swap party members which lasts about ten minutes before you get to the route split.
My 11 year old boy is obsessed with Undertale and looking to play this game. Any reason to be concerned? He’s a FNaF head as well and likes horror games like Dark Deception and Bendy.

People seem to think that church is on Saturday, but the café owner on Day 1 says that Kris's family would stop by on Sundays after service. This means, of course, that for some reason Hometown has school on Saturday and the festival will be on Monday.
>>3829862I dunno how it is in US, but we had 6-day school week in high school in my country.
>>3829862i dont know if its truly the case across all of japan because i only know this from persona but afaik they have 6 day school weeks, and toby is a massive weeb so he's just injecting that into his game despite the fact the rest of hometown is a pre-2000s american small town neighborhood
>>3829862You didn't have school Saturdays?
>>3829862Depending on the denomination, some churches have services on both Saturdays and Sundays. It's possible everyone went to the Saturday service that week to account for the festival.
>>3829874It isn't really true in most schools anymore but 6 day school weeks were common in Japan not too long ago.
>>3829862Forgotten Man's dialogue contradicts this. He says he rests his food on the windows on Saturday.

>>3830847>Did Toby Fox ever read LovecraftWhat do you think?
>>3805656I just remembered one: The Original Starwalker in-joke is the most forced unfunny joke in the entirety of the game.
>>3830902It's the weirdest joke to me, as I didn't encounter him on any of my SAVE files, so from my perspective everyone is talking from a non-character like Woody.
>>3826070Look I respect your initial point about character and emotional investment, but if you really think FRIEND and Gaster are exempt and will have no narrative relevance or actual characterization, you're out of it. There is theorizing for the sake of it, treating the game like it's FNAF, and there's examination of the shit that's actually in the game and obviously tied together, FRIEND and gaster is the latter. Toby Fox isn't a trickster god, and he also isn't a shit writer. he puts things in the game for a reason.
>>3826106I know you despise this possibility as do I, but there's a large amount of people who genuinely, unironically, would think that this is the best route for the game.
>>3831012>Toby Fox isn't a trickster god, and he also isn't a shit writer. he puts things in the game for a reason. That sentence doesn't fit my narrative so I will ignore it.

I think the only good chapter was chapter 2.1 and 3 were kind of a drag and boring, 4 was mostly cutscenes which to be fair were pretty cool but they didn't really move the story forward much for how long they were.2 had great humor and comedic timing, and the only good shadow crystal character in Spamton, which managed to be funny, mysterious and endearing at the same time without actually being on screen all that much. Jevil is barely a character, roaring knight though admittedly cool is just kinda there for the fight and leaves, and Gerson while a cool character is just a terribly easy and boring fight that doesn't make you feel like you're sinking deeper into the nightmare (which should be what you're feeling when fighting for a shadow crystal as far as I can tell).Overall Deltarune strikes me as a concept with a lot of potential but I don't see much of it realized so far and I feel like 3 chapters is not a whole fucking lot of room for solving all the mysteries that have been piling up. At this point I am very doubtful I will see the end of deltarune within my lifetime at the rate we are going.
>>3832706it's scary that this might have merit
The Kris/Soul thing is the worst part of this game. I hate it with a passion. It adds nothing of value to the game, and every time I think about, it sends me into a rage. I wanted a knight, and I got Kris instead.
>>3833213And, a statement to follow that I think most of the fanbase are masochists who hate themselves judging by the lack of reaction that Kris is in bed with the enemy.
>>3833214It's okay if he beats up me... I just want to support his romances...
>>3833215This ain't a world where kindness always wins. I want to rip out Kris’s guts and get an actual hero instead. If Chrono Trigger pulled a stunt like this, you can bet I would have the same complaint. It's a development that benefits no one, and shatters immersion for no reason.
>>3833221No, you want him to develop meaningful relationship with everyone but yourself while you're thrown around in a cage.
>>3833224He has his relationships. With his degenerate master, while I have nothing.Never have I seen a game with as much contempt for its game as Deltarune. I don't practice suicidal empathy.
wheres the thread pussies
>>3833254It's been over 2 months, Gerson. Let us rest.

>>3833883Someone (not me, hypothetically, in minecraft) may have reported them because that someone needs to work right now and those threads were distracting that someone.
>>3833909You fucking FAGGOT.
/v/ threads constantly getting nuked infuriates me because I want them to hit bump limit so I can hoard all the images
I've been listening to a lot of The Soft Moon lately, and while the themes of their music often fit Deltarune, I found this track especially fitting to Kris's situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekXl3VOVhT8>>3834752>tfw I had been banned for three days for posting some tangentially pony art in a thread about horsesI didn't miss too much considering how the janny has been deleting Deltarune threads left and right. It's still disappointing.
>>3834752My human folder... unused with no threads...
>>3834752>delteroon repeatedly nuked forever because bad general>AIjeet spam totally-not-general with Tenna in the OP untouched because of course it's totally vidya and not a generalHow embarrassing
>>3834882And in a week there will be daily, constant, nonstop threads about Silksong, and not a single one will ever get deleted. Several months will pass with daily Silksong threads, while Deltarune will be deleted for doing exactly what everyone else has been doing for their popular games. When do we just agree that /vg/ is just /trash2/ for jannies?
>>3834887Silksong isn't SilkTROON unlike Deltatroon! Checkmate!
>>3834887>And in a week there will be daily, constant, nonstop threads about Silksong, and not a single one will ever get deleted.honestly with the way this site is run I actually doubt that, all it has to do is arbitrarily infuriate the jannies for one of a million reasons and it'll get dumpstered too
>>3834895nah HK has its own brigade of loonies after its nuts, jannies won't have to lift a finger.
>>3834887>>3834895Wasn't Pizza Tower banned from /v/ the same way Deltarune was?
>>3834887That depends. Is there a Nintendo game getting released or announced around the same time Silksong comes out? If so, Silksong threads are in trouble, 'cause Janny doesn't like indies outshining his 'tendo
>>3834899Pizza Tower threads weren't nuked to the same degree, but at the same time there was a lot of consistent and suspicious whining of "le general" before the threads started falling off. You're not allowed to be *too* popular if you're an indie. Only Nintendo and gachagames are allowed to have generals.
>>3834935>>3835223what I don't get is deltarune was directly promoted by nintendo, toby worked with the pokemon company and sakurai multiple times and he gets preferential treatment from them, why do they still treat DR as if it was some random indie game instead of the "cultural phenomenon" it is?
>>3835251it's culture war nonsense at the end of the day, ut/dt are considered gay sjw furry tumblr games by someone on the mod team.
>>3835251well its a 3rd party game that humiliates the S2's three games>racing game: unfun item spam (only first party launch title)>donkey kong: ruined franchise edition>racing game 2: kirby edition (nothing wrong really, but 2/3 switch games are racing games.
>>3805656my hot take: everyone should actively avoid playing it to make people shut up about it; after that play it all you want
Every DR thread on /v/ is great but illusive fun, inevitably cut short by the no-fun-allowed jannies.

>>3835572but it refused
>>3805656Y'know, I do wish there was a bit more to do, or that it could be a whole lot bigger, gameplay-wise. But it is a super story heavy game and I can respect that. The set-pieces are genuinely impressive too.Just came to me when I was thinking that the combat system just exists and that there aren't "real" encounters. Maybe the following chapters will have frequent enemies that need to be killed.
I don't care what Janny says or does, I will never never ever ever use /vg/ forever
There are 3 different ways I would have done this thing with Kris without it being a "da player" story.1)Have Kris be a hero, and the Roaring Knight the sole antagonist of the story2) Have the Soul be the real Kris, while Kris removing it being the evil Fountain-opening Kris.3)Have the Soul be Kris travelling back in time to prevent the Roaring.I offer solutions for a problem that never needed to exist. The Soul/Kris dynamic and how the player is not given a way to stop Kris from doing more damage, is by the worst part of this game's story. I didn't ask for this, and all this does is anger me.
no one asked autist
I asked.
Do you think trannitor will leave us alone once Silksong drops, or we have to wait for Bubsy4D release?

>>3843583I made two threads about the Famitsu release and both of them archived in ten posts or so. People are tired.

>>3805656Kris is the only character that actually intrigues me. That's not to say I don't like the rest, they can be neat, but they don't go further than an amusing personality or punctual moving moments. Kris is the only one that actually keeps me playing. Trying to piece together what Kris wants, why and how is basically 90% of my interest.I realized this while thinking about things I cared for and things I didn't. The most obvious one is anything Suselle related. It's extremely predictable in the way it's been advancing, the only thing that could make it interesting to me would be for it to fail catastrophically and have Noelle go off the deep end over it, and even then it'd be momentary interest, not something that'd make the game for me. I don't care if Asgore and Toriel get back together (they're not gonna), I only care about how their relationship breaking down further might push Kris even deeper into depression and what that might cause. Susie and Ralsei going off on their own during chapter 2 was of no interest to me. I don't care that they bonded, or that Ralsei taught her a healing spell. I barely cared that Susie got mentored by Gerson because in the end, I don't care what Susie does with it except for one single case: What will become of it all once the big reveal about Kris happens. Don't even care about Gaster's potential reveal despite that being the community's biggest mystery for yearsDunno if anyone else will feel this way, but I really think if Deltarune didn't have Kris as co-protagonist of the player and the wierd ass relationship between (You) and Kris wasn't a central plotpoint, I just wouldn't care for this game. I'm not gonna say everything else is badly written or something because it's not, but to me, Kris and the dynamic between Kris and Player, or Kris and Susie, or Kris and Dess, or the possibility that Kris might just be a fucking monster (figurative) is what makes Deltarune unique and what makes it stand out from any other game.
>>3850580That is some good armor design.I love a bunch of the characters and think they are interesting, but I agree with you totally. Kris is by far the most complicated and mysterious character in the whole game, and the mystery is quite deliberate on his part. Getting little tidbits of his personality over time really helps to sell it, and if it weren't for the metanarrative it would be impossible to write him this way. Deltarune transcends merely being a good game and becomes high art because of Kris's relationship with the player. Also, from a literary stance it adds more depth and horror to the Weird Route as well, since it hinges so heavily on acting on Kris's intrusive thoughts against his wishes. The only thing worse than being possessed by an unknowable demon is being possessed by one with a creepy obsession to vivisect your mind by forcing you into worse and more bizarre situations to get your reaction. Kris is already mentally breaking down in Chapter 4 and we have a long way to go.
Susie's father was an alcoholic and killed himself shortly before her birth. Her mother was a prostitute and constantly drunk, she died from withdrawal. Her younger sister drowned herself, her older sister jumped under train, her brother threw himself off the railroad bridge. Grandpa killed his wife, doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire. Other grandma was traveling with gypsies and poisoned herself in the prison. Her male cousin was convicted for several counts of treason and slit his jugular with a glass shard in county jail. Female cousin jumped from the six floor. Susie was neglected during childhood and she couldn't speak until she was ten, because when she was six months old, she was left without supervision while she was getting her diapers changed and a cat dragged her off the table, leaving her with brain damage. She has violent headaches from time to time and sometimes can't even remember what she was doing.
How many lightner deaths do you think Kris will ultimately be responsible for, with your input or not? I'm betting on Catti turning on him once she finds out what's happening to Noelle and a vicious fight will break out, during which (you) make Kris inflict the final blow.Don't mind the picture showing Noelle instead. That would also be ironic.
Could someone give me a QRD of the yagi stuff that people are talking about on /v/?
>>3813064No, it doesnt, i've played more no mercy neutral runs in undertale and no mercy nor recruits neutral runs in deltarune than anybody else and it hasnt gotten boring at all
>>3813572The devilsknife is also better than the jevilstail, its 40% tp rude buster helps a ton in the knight fight, and the gerson fight is genuinely more fun if you focus on attacking and doing the rude buster parry stuff than if you were to spam defend and heal every turn
>>3851628yagi is the not-actually-dead kid that the schizo said inspired ralsei
Deltarune will end with Susie and Noelle pregnant with Ralsei's children
>>3852033I have several more questions??
>>3851889Strange. The deltarune game is chapter (Episodic). I just started chapter 4 and like the previous chapters, no choices I made really made any difference. I found Deltarune tedious and my friends have to tell me to play it. Not that they know when any of the new chapters are going to come out.Undertale actually made me feel like my choices mattered, but to each their own.
>>3805675There's some nuance to the Mercy side of battling, but nobody ever engages with it. Did you know it's actually more optimal to attack Queen's Shield than doing ACTs? Nobody really tries it because everyone's too afraid of the FIGHT button, to the point that I've seen people never use the FIGHT button against Giga Queen. I can't confirm if this is true, but it really feels like Toby wanted there to be more nuance and strategy in combat, where FIGHTing could still be a viable option for pacifism in a way that isn't just lowering HP to a certain threshold, but fans quite literally never using the button even when being told it's okay, might have partially forced his hand to finally make people actually use their damn equipment. That also backfried though, because people have been literally so FIGHT averse that they've died to the Titan because they've refused to equip better weapons. Undertale has just ruined people this much I suppose.
>>3852167people refuse to fight the fucking knight of all things even after shows the niggerman wendingo form and does some ultrasonic scream
>>3852174I'm sure there's even some stupid fucks who saw Ralsei state outright>FIGHT THIS THING NOWand didn't get the message because they're sure there's another way
>>3852167>people have been literally so FIGHT averse that they've died to the TitanI refuse to believe anyone actually died in that cutscene. Even if you show me proofs I'll rationalize it as people sandbagging to lower the difficulty.
>>3852162>no choices I made really made any difference
did they start deleting the threads again
>>3805656Nothing short of hardcore mind control could possibly set up a hypothetical Asgore bossfight in Chapter 5. You are not convincing me that Asgore "Deltarune" Dreemurr is willingly putting his hands on>His own kid>His kid's best friend>His close friend's only breathing daughterOf the entire Fun Gang, the person he'd most likely fight is Ralsei, and thats only because nobody in the Light World knows who he is and the Dreemurrs can tell which goat is and isn't a part of their family. And that's only if Ralsei introduces himself as hostile.
>>3852453If Asgore's full power is revealed, I expect him to use it against the Knight to give the Fun Gang time to seal the fountain. If he's fine afterwards, he'll be convinced to let go of the lost girl conspiracy theory and to focus on protecting what he has left. Susie will probably mention how the Knight has been going after Toriel and has already taken Undyne.I won't lie though, a full-power Asgore fight would be fun. https://youtu.be/PXyMkBYMsWE?t=1407
>>3852159It's mostly a forced meme by not guy. Which I regret helping him because he's kind of a whiny bitch.. At this point it's just harassing and obsessing over a random kid.
>replay ch1>cheking stuff just because>check temmie's egg>it says it's black-and-whiteGOD DAMMIT TOBY
>>3852645Did anyone actually contact that kid?
>>3805656>Quality of life changes should've been backported to Chapter 1>Chapter 3 is kind of slow>Getting permanently locked out of ERAM in Chapter 3 and Gerson in Chapter 4 after passing certain points in the story is bad game design
>>3806589Chapter 5 is releasing in the second half of 2026.I predict 6 and 7 will release as a bundle in 2028.My specific predictions:>5: December 25, 2026>6 and 7: October 31, 2028 (exactly 10 years after Chapter 1)
>>3852713>Getting permanently locked out of ERAM in Chapter 3 and Gerson in Chapter 4 after passing certain points in the story is bad game designwith gerson i remember it being made pretty clear that you might be locked out of it if you progress from the first sanctuarywith eram it's less clear but after you finish the first board it's fairly obvious that you're missing something by not doing s ranksthe pre-patch chapter 3 egg is unforgivable though
>>3852754>it's fairly obvious that you're missing something by not doing s ranksIt's only obvious if you don't get the first S rank, but get the second S rank. This hapepned to me, I saw the S Rank door and thought "Maybe I can get S Rank on the second board, Toby's generous like that"and then behold when I could go any further, and it was too later to reload an old save because said save was overwritten.
>>3852791The S rank stuff was the biggest bullshit in the entire game. It basically wasted hours of our time just so you would have to restart the entire chapter and now go through it again.
>>3852832The onyl saving grace si that you could buy S Rank, but most people don't actually have the points for it by the time they actually find the NPC, and I still don't know if getting to replay the minigames at all gives you more points to spend.
>>3852833I couldn't buy it because I didn't have enough points. You don't get points from replaying the mini games, and the vending machine that could give you more is in the S rank room.
>>3852701No, just his friends. They told us to fuck off and Yagischizo hasn't been the same since.
>>3852847There's actually a few people interested in that guy, it's not just the one guy. I mean unless you're talking about the guy that wants to get fucked by him I think there's only the one. I hope it's only one.Or you're talking about the guy that was posting battat. He's probably one guy and full of regret.
