Long time poster, first time lurker.I used to play on some PWs back in 2003 to 2011 or so. I see NWN is back on Steam but the PWs I'm used to are phased out. I'd like to get back into it so if anyone has a lay of the land it would be appreciated. I guess I'm looking for something community/clan based without a lot of the gay RP shit. It was nice having a group of people separate from friends and coworkers to hang with sometimes.
For me, it’s the OC
>>3823814>without a lot of the gay RP shitI think any servers that managed to survive for this long need that type of autism to keep it going.
>>3823814Is this a collection of modules? If so, I'm in. Played as a child and might hop in, for nostalgia reasons, build autism, plenty of time (good bye job and fiancee) and I might publish again some modules. What are modules for nwn 1 and 2 with decent stories? Are any of the premium modules worth it?
>>3825034Swordflight is pretty good but autistically hard (chapter 1 good, chapter 2 GOAT, chapter 3 and 4 ok, have not played chapter 5 yet).
>>3825112>autistically hardCurious, I like a decent difficulty. Nwn main campaign is trivial. Point and click adventure. Has anyone played tragedy in tragidor?>swordflightHow many people made it?
>>3825119>How many people made it?I believe it was made by one dude.>Curious, I like a decent difficulty.Play a munchkin character if you want to try it out.
>>3825119It was made by one dude over the course of almost 20 years and the final sixth chapter is not out yet. After chapter 2 the difficulty ramps up quite a bit, if you play a melee build you kind of need to have devastating critical.
>>3825122>Play a munchkin character if you want to try it out.Found on plebbit:>(...) rarely trodden waste where illiterate players believe that you can attack while you're dead because nowhere does it say being dead keeps you from attacking.>20 yearsThat's the dedication we desperately need
>>3825123>After chapter 2 the difficulty ramps up quite a bitTo me, chapter 1 was the harshest but that's mostly because of how few tools you have at this point. The following chapters went smoother but I played a very filthy build.
I just finished swordflight earlier this week. I like chapter 1 and 2 the best but 3, 4 and 5 were also pretty fun. By the end of 4 and most of 5 I was getting pretty tired of entering the demon planes and fighting hoardes of the same enmies though. My buffed summons/ henchmen carried me through a lot of the game but I was a elite enemy/boss killing machine when I stacked bigbys spells on enemies and hit them with a bunch of issacs missles. This is my chapter 5 endgame character named after my favorite character in Rance.
>>3825217Also I wanted to multiclass a little bit so I could experience more of the class gated content and rogue meshes good. Every time I missed those fighter/cleric/monk/etc onlyquests it killed the completionist inside of me.
>>3825218Just how dedicated is that guy? Shame for the class content, wanted to play with modded classes.
>>3825223The class content is crazy. There are even specific quests for niche things like Shadowdancer or Blackguard or Purple Dragon Knight. But there were a lot of wizard/rogue quests too and its not like I didnt have a ton of content. I didnt exactly measure but my playthrough of the series was probably atleast 70 hours.
>>3825229I'm still annoyed that there is no specific quest for RDD. I would be fine if it at least counted as fighter levels for the purpose of quests.
>>3825229>specific quests for niche things like Shadowdancer or Blackguard or Purple DragonI will make a character for this module then. Quests for fringe classes, can you imagine? Is it like 10/10 story wise?
>>3825112>having to play nanny for an annoying retarded NPC>goodanon what the fuck are you smoking?
>>3825290Thats only chapter 1, she as absent for chapter 2 and then in 3 and beyond she starts with so much good gear that she will have WAY more AC then you do and can tank for you. She also has a bunch of improved invisibility spells that you can direct her to use, which is the best defensive buff in the game. And even in chapter 1 you can just have her stay back and shoot things ranged.
>>3825217mod for the UI?
>>3825360Reborn UI. My favorite thing about it is probably the colored skills/feats/spell icons. I know some people like the original yellow scrolls but having clear colored pictures of each spell makes it so much easier and faster to find things.
>>3825314To be fair Zarala is stillr etarded in chapter 3 and 4, and the water elemental instant drown ability does not go well with her shitty saves. Honestly I just modded a ring with full 100% immunities for every damage/effect and I give it to her, she is dead weight regardless.
>>3825217How did you deal with the instadeath water elemental bullshit aura and the electrical damage aura from air elemental with an arcane caster?
>>3825034>What are modules for nwn 1 and 2 with decent stories?I liked Aielund's story until it went cosmic. It serves the gameplay because you start the final module at like level 34, but the escalation just gets dumb. It's written by an actual author though so the moment to moment writing is pretty good.
>>3825535The vampire sublpot in the fort was also pretty retarded.
>>3825521Different anon, but water elementals' bullshit ability is a Death effect so Death Ward protects against it, by the time you start facing them regularly in Chapter 3+ you can buy dozens of scrolls/potions and have it constantly active.>electrical damage auraSame as all the other bullshit elemental damage later in the series, dozens of castings of Energy Buffer (or spend the feat/dip on tower shield proficiency and use a Greater Shield of Elements). Arcane casters actually have an advantage there because they can mass-produce scrolls and wands using the millions of GP they otherwise can't spend, where non-casters have to buy all their scrolls.
>>3825535>until it went cosmicHard to get right, really. Son of God of murder works.
>>3825538>Death effectIn a sp game...
>>3825538>Reborn UIIssue with energy buffer is that it only soaks up 60 damage and at the beginning of chapter 4 there are 10+ elementals in a single battle so you have to keep casting every other round, I feel it is a bullshit way to add difficulty. Luckily I had an amulet of electrical resistance.
>>3825521how did you ever finish any module of this game and not figure out that you can be protected from Instadeath with Deathward?
>>3823814I'm about to pick this up, how survivable is a straight martial character in this game? I played a lot of baldur's gate so there i could just have my party buff my MC but here you can't control your party, does that force me to use scrolls and wands? I don't mind if that's the case, but i assume i'm going to end up poor if i have to spend gold on consumables for every fight.
>>3825679Oh damn i didn't read the thread and see that >>3825538 kinda talked about this. Guess it's viable then, with the only caveat being that consumables don't scale with character level (i assume? it's usually like that with d&d so i guess so) and so won't last long.
>>3825679I had a mage rogue and stood most battles firm in close combat.
>>3825521In chapter 3 when I faced those rooms with like 30 elementals I just sent 1 wail of the banshee that killed almost all the trash. Then a bigbys grasping hand or interposing hand would lock down the Elder Elemental. My familar and summon would all be buffed with Death Wards, improved invisibility, flame weapon, greater magic weapon, barskin, and potions for stats. Slow was also an amazing spell for massive groups on enemies.
>>3825794Actually I think that was the start of chapter 4 in the underdark not chapter 3.
>>3825679You can control your party to follow you, stop moving, attack, and cast defensive spells and buffs by talking to them. Remember you can only use magic wands/scrolls as a martial class if you have the Use Magic Device skill at the correct level or 1 level in wizard/sorcerer. If you are a Martial Cleric or Paladin you can use divine wands/scrolls though.More most modules potions will be more than enough for buffing, and in the original game you dont even need to buff at all if you dont want to.
>>3825679You will destroy.
>>3825521>How did you deal with the instadeath water elemental bullshit aura and the electrical damage aura from air elemental with an arcane caster?Amulets of elemental resistances, sending a buffed elemental that is immune to a correspoding element, or gating a balor. Drown is blocked by potions of death ward.Wizard is very strong in Swordflight, and it's probably the only single player module that allows you to properly experience all arcane tools that are usually ignored.
>>3827638>arcane toolsAs in?
>>3825166>>3825217I'm going for a sorc/rdd/pal build, viable?
>>3827732>rddWhy did they limit the class to red dragons?
>>3827732>sorc/rdd/palThis is gross and you should be ashamed
>>3827732I'm this guy >>3825679 and i've since made a Fighter/Bard/RDD build i saw on the net and i'm pretty much deleting everything in HOTU, i imagine any kind of melee class gets a lot of mileage out of RDD with all the bonus stats you get.
>>3827766>build i saw on the netAre you actual? Why are you lame? Try using some random algo, fun guaranteed. Meme builds force you to use all the mechanics and be creative.
>>3827732Should be. How many levels of sorcerer and paladin do you plan to take?
>>3827778>Meme buildsI usually do that when i'm better familiarized with the game, for now i just wanted to learn to play so i picked a cookie cutter build to get me through.
>>3827695Wand/scroll crafting and niche spells you would likely never cast in any other module.
>>3827732>rddAre you building a grug with no (or with very limited) spellcasting, or some weird melee mage?
So far swordflight is going fine, but I picked flaming hands and sleep like an idiot instead of mage armor and whatever else buff is there. Smite evil/lay on hands seem to be really underpowered.>>3827763It is gross, I'd rather wizard, but I want high str persuasive caster with melee ability.>>3827766HOTU is easy, I am talking about Swordflight. >>382783710 pal 20 sorc. Almost pure melee pre-epic.>>3828095Melee mage. Blast trash, selfbuff and melee vs strong opponents.
>>3828329>10 pal 20 sorc. Almost pure melee pre-epic.So 10 pal, 20 sorc and 10 rdd? Your BAB will be shit and so will your spell DC.
>>3828338Epic levels don't increase spell dc/bab and rdd strength bonus offsets 3/4 bab progression.
>>3828329>10 pal 20 sorcIf you start taking multiple sorc levels before 20, your BAB is going to be shit. If you start taking sorc levels after 20, your spellcasting is going to be shit for a very long time. And you either won't have enough STR to be good in melee, or enough CHA to have good DCs.The best thing you could've done is a pure sorc with a pal dip, Tenser's Transformation and permanent Still Spell feats on epic levels. You'd be able to wear shields and heavy armor, land your hits on some enemies, and kill the others with damage shields. And you'd be able to survive with Epic Warding and temporary HP either from Tenser's or from Shapechange.
>>382832910 Pal 10 RDD will actually be pretty strong. And that should take you to 20 somewhere around chapter 3. While 10 fighter would be better for feats 10 Pal will give you some cool Paladin quests. If you go full sorc after 20 Its still going to take a fair amount of time to come online but there are some really good early buffs you can take like Flame weapon, ghostly visage, mage armor, shield. Make sure you get improved invisibility as soon as possible.Sure there are stronger builds but its a cool hybrid and In my opinion your build should be viable, especially with bard buffs from your companion. >>3828511>Tenser's TransformationTensers transformation is actually really bad for swordflight. My pure wizard with buffs had double the AC of tensers transformation and a better attack bonus using a short sword. Its a decent spell in the original campaign where everything is really weak but cant hold up that well in swordflight
>>3828570Both shapechange and tensers suck for wizards/sorcerers because its basically a polymorph spell and changes you into a creature without adding any of your special abilities or gear. The result is pretty much always way weaker than you would be geared up and buffed. The only exceptions I believe are druid and shifter wildshape which do actually integrate some of your stats and gear and can be pretty powerful if built correctly.
>>3828570>>3828588If you're a melee mage, you'll be using damage shields. If you're using damage shields, you want to get hit. However, you want those hits to be absorbed by temporary HP and damage reduction.
>>3828743You can defintely play that way. But if that guy will only be getting the best damage reduction options like Premonition in chapter 5 which is the last module. As a Paladin/RDD for the majority of the game he will be relying on AC and by chapter 3/4 stoneskin and greater stoneskin dont cut it anymore. And even a pure spellcaster will have similar HP to tensers if they stack gear with constitution bonuses and and buffs. For example this character >>3825217 using tensers transformation has 35 AC and about 588 HP while buffed, but you lose all access to spells, lose equipment benefits like perma haste, freedom, death ward, elemental immunity, stat increases, mind spell immunities, etc, and have a mediocre attack bonus and AC for a fighter of that level.I do think that Tensers can be a fun spell and can make melee mages work in cool ways I just dont think it would work that well for that guys hybrid build and the swordflight module in particular.
>>3828757Temporary HP from Tenser's stacks with itself. I just loaded my chapter 5 wizard and turned into an iron golem with 2066 hp and golem immunities only with those two spells.
>>3828757Also, Tenser's itself gives you a permanent mind immunity by default, and most of the other effects can be covered with buffs and potions. You can even end up with a fairly decent AC by stacking a wand of shadow conjuration, though this obviously is not very practical compared to simply using damage shields.
>>3828770How does this work? Once you use tensers you cant use spells/scrolls so how do you use shapechange to turn into a golem afterwards.
>>3828778Tenser's bonus HP is not lost when you turn back, and can be stacked over multiple casts. Once you feel that you have enough temporary HP, you can shapechange into whatever for special immunities and a bit more bonus HP.You can do even better than 2066 HP - I only have my early chapter 5 save on this PC, and I only stacked Tenser's from level 6 slots. A higher level caster with metamagic slots is going to climb even higher - which is probably unnecessary, but we're talking about Swordflight.
>>3828778>>3828785I just got to 3360 HP by adding the extended slots. Now imagine this thing at slightly higher level, with golem immunities, stacked damage shields and Epic Warding. This character doesn't have Empower and Maximize, but I think the latter should work with Tenser's as well.
>>3828790Oh yeah I tried it and it does work that way. It kinda makes me feel like when I stack HP as a lich in Pathfinder WotR. You could have a setup just for killing bosses, though maximized issacs missles might be even quicker.
>>3828570Is there an option for wizard gish that will pass persuade checks?
>>3828829Im not gonna lie I always use this mod>https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/hakpak/original-hakpak/all-social-skills-are-class-everyonewhich makes social skills (persuade, bluff, intimidate) class skills for every class.Persuade is also a class skill for Paladin and RDD so you would also be able to get a pretty good score with those if you put points into it.Wizard is just nice because you get so many skill points because Intelligence is your main skill. On my wizard I ended up with skills like open lock, disable trap, heal, Use Magic Device, Tumble.
>>3828829A few rogue dips, but ideally after level 17-18 - delaying new spells is usually worse than failing a few especially difficult checks. A wizard is going to have gorillion skill points anyway.Anon's mod is also a good solution, being unable to persuade people just because you picked a wrong class is kind of a bullshit.
>>3828743How do you make melee mage work in NWN1? I want to replay the expansions again but I forgot Eldritch Knight isn't in the game.
>>3829024Not that guy but clerics probably work best if you want a melee caster type character but thats divine spells and not a wizard/sorcerer.Wizard sorcerer is in a kind of hard spot doing melee because multiclassing with a martial class to a decent level will seriously mess up spell progression. You will eventually get tensers transformation spell which is decent in the original campaign/expansion but it only lasts 1 round/level and you are locked out of spells while doing it so its just like playing a fighter.Like the guy you replied to said you can just stack damage reduction like stoneskin and elemental shields that make enemies take damage when they hit you. But its kind of a boring way to play a mage and you dont even really need to be melee for that, it would be more effective to have all those shields up and continue to cast spells instead. On the other hand the official content is fairly easy so you could probably multiclass fighter/wizard or fighter/sorcerer and get away with it but you would still have really slow spell progession depending on how you level the classes.
>>3829024Clerics and bards do it naturally, a cleric is especially good regardless of whether you're making a caster or a melee build. If not, a melee mage as you imagine it would only only become functional in modules with a level cap close to 40. And either you're going to play the first 16-20 levels as a melee grug, or you're going to cripple your BAB. And even then you're a melee mage with low DCs and caster level, which limits your functionality.Another way is to make a dedicated caster who buffs to become virtually unkillable and watches how his enemies kill themselves in a few hits, and from time to time smacks stunlocked enemies with his medicore buffed AB to justify his title of melee mage.
>>3829042>Not that guy but clerics probably work best if you want a melee caster type character but thats divine spells and not a wizard/sorcerer.>Divine power>Spell level: cleric 4; cleric with strength domain 3>Duration: 1 round / level>The caster gains the following bonuses: 1 extra hit point per caster level, strength is raised to 18 (if their strength is already 18 or higher, it is not raised further), and base attack bonus improves to that of a fighter of the same level.>Base attack bonus improves to that of a fighter of the same character level; caster level is ignored for this aspect of the spell. For example, this spell grants any level 14 character the base attack bonus of a level 14 fighter (i.e. +14/+9/+4), regardless of that character's classes and class levels. That's your picklock that will allow you to turn any noodlearmed wizard into a roided-up fighter. The only downside is the duration. Extend spell can help but realistically, you would still want some extra cleric levels.I played Swordflight as Cleric/Bard/RDD and that worked well. I didn't need to keep the spell up all the time, but my classes were 3/4 BAB and I was using nearly every long-lasting buff in my spellbook. Cleric is the ultimate gish.
>>3829048>Cleric is the ultimate gish. You got that right.Fuck I love that class.
>>3829048Clerics have lame spell selection and relying on some dork to loan you powers is lame. It's basically use magic device, only instead of buying your spells, you beg some asshole for them, and that asshole is not all-good all-knowing (and thus deserving of worship) even if they're lawful good.
>>3829379Clerics can't exploit the system as much as wizards can, buy their spells in NWN1 are by no means bad.
>>3829379>tips fedora
>>3825217How boring is it to play a pure arcane caster in swordflight? expecially after chapter 3 when monsters are hp sponges
>>3829513Very fun if you understand what you're doing, especially because certain summons "evolve" to be useful on epic levels.>expecially after chapter 3 when monsters are hp spongesYou either oneshot everything with Wail of the Banshee, or stunlock to death with Bigby. And in chapter 5 you get a fighter with Dev Crit.
>>3829513What this guy >>3829525 said is pretty true. For chapter 1-3 i played mostly a summoner and buffed up my familiar and summon with a ton of buffs and send them in. Then support with spells like slow. You do get a ton of magic wands and staffs like wands of fire/lightning/death, staffs that can cast tons of different spells which give you a lot of different ways to approach fights. Once I got some higher level spells I focused on taking high level enemies down while my summons mopped up. Grabbing the tough enemies with bigbys hand, and focusing issacs missles on them. Firebrand and delayed fireball were also used a lot.I had more fun than when I played my fighter rogue character. You will by weaker in chapter 1 and a decent amount of 2 but once you start finding some nice magic wands and gear the playstyle starts coming together.
>>3829567>You will by weaker in chapter 1 and a decent amount of 2Buffed pseudodragon destroys chapter 1 and the solo part of chapter 2. Needs Flame Weapon to deal any damage though, before that point he is just a great tank with passive True Seeing. And in the second half of chapter 2 you just need to remove enemies out of combat with Fear/Bigby, dispel buffs/protections with a self-crafted wand of Breach and let your buffed party take care of the rest.
>>3823814What pw servers did you play on? I was on Dor Maeglin for a long time. I love NWN so much, I wish someone would release a decent successor. I tried Blackstone keep recently, it was ok but nothing like Dor.
>>3829389No timestop
>>3829739>summons from a higher spell level>fuck you, I now have a pure fighter's BAB>Harm/Heal>stackable 120 damage per round for a round per level>AoE blindness with no save>AoE death spell that ignores death immunityThey do pretty well. If you really want, you can take a level of wizard and upload a Time Stop scroll into your sequencer robe.
>>3829587Havent heard of Dor. I spent a long time on Redemption Mud. It was a guild/adventure based PW with a pretty tight community. I made this thread to figure out if anything similar exists on NWN now.
>>3829567What are good summons to use in chapter 3+? The balor has been buffed but all the others are shit, summon creature IX elemental have 20 AC and the minotaurs kill it immediately even with stoneskin.
>>3830036Balor is buffed right from the start, and then buffed again. Not enough AC to tank gank squads in the later chapters for a long time though, but he is still great against casters.Your familiar is buffed after the first dungeon in chapter 3, it turns into a pretty good tankYour elementals are buffed after the first "dungeon" in chapter 4. A buffed level IX elemental is going to stay good for the rest of the game, since chapter 5 ends at level 37-38 and it doesn't fall off at that point. You can buff your undead summons in the undead realm in chapter 5, but they're still shit. Maybe high level Pale Master's summons actually get effective, but I don't think they're worth testing.Blackguars and shadowdancers also get a buff to their class summons, no idea how well it works.Maybe something else is going to get stronger in chapter 6, but there's no guarantee. Epic summons are still trash and a waste of a feat, for example. And Black Blade of Disaster is much less effective than other level IX summons regardless of a chapter.
>>3830082>>3830036>And Black Blade of Disaster is much less effective than other level IX summons regardless of a chapterLet me rephrase it. It's worse than a balor in chapter 3, and worse than both a balor and an elemental in chapter 4.It's unkillable and doesn't turn you evil though, so there might be some use for a good or neutral wizard before you get your giga-elemental.
>>3829791Darkfire is also extremely powerful for its level.
>>3830036Your familiar gets buffed near the start of chapter 3, and is really strong at that point at very useful for all of chapter 3 and majority of 4. It does start to fall off in scaling the further you go.BUTBy the start of chapter 4 your elemental summon gets upgraded and its a massive improvement and is extremely strong for the rest of the game. Here is both familiar and fire elemental summon unbuffed. If you buffed them you could get atleast 10 more AC and Attack bonus out of them. I remember getting my air elemental to near 60 AC
>>3830283The fire elemental after a bit of buffing. Managed to get the AC to 60.
>>3825034>gets to live ultra cozy NWN neet life
>>3830283>>3830294He should also know that a fire elemental in particular "casts" a fire spell on every hit (either Combust or Inferno) and can be buffed with Flame Weapon. Otherwise, that damage seems pathetic despite in fact being pretty solid.Air elemental adds electric+sound damage, I think. Works just as well as a fire elemental - a bit less damage, but more effective against fire immunes.Water elemental has the highest physical damage with a chance to kill on hit, but the lowest AC which is actually a big issue even in chapter 4. It also auto-destroys any object on hit, which could've been awesome against lategame bosses if the party AI didn't suck so much.
>>3830383Yeah weapon buffs dont show up on their sheet but with flame weapon + their on hit effect all of them do huge damage.
Can anyone help me find a module?I remember two things about it but might have been two different modulesThe first tihng was you found a child stealing and could turn him in or suggest the child work it off or some other non-violent options like the family pay. I think it was bread the child stoleYou also had to prepare the village for an army attacking themI think or possibly just somem onsters.
>>3830845>The first tihng was you found a child stealing and could turn him in or suggest the child work it off or some other non-violent options like the family pay. I think it was bread the child stole. At the very start of tales of arterra when you enter the city there is a child stealing from a noble couple, you can turn him in or side with him saying you didnt see him steal anything. In the 3rd or 4rth part of the Bastard Of Kosigan you have to prepare a village for an attack by ogres and orcs. You are able to choose the area in the village you will defend and and have to convince some of them to help in the battle. Those are the first two that come to mind but there are probably a decent amount of modules that have scenarios like that.
>>3830891Actually now that I think about it a child stealing bread might also have been from one the parts in Bastard of Kosigan but I cant remember for sure.
>>3825217I quit at swordflight at chapter 5 Fighting epic level goblins and Gnols was bad enough but when I saw yet another pissing portal to the abyss I was just like nah, I'm good
>>3831157>and GnolsThose gnolls were low level jobbers. Epic level goblins and a random level 30+ hobo ranger were incredibly stupid and over the top though.Swordflight's level scaling in general stops making any sense after chapter 2, though I liked a few encounters in chapter 3 where you simply get overwhelmed by massive groups of weak low level enemies.
>>3831626That sounds like an atrocious encounter design
>>3825034>What are modules for nwn 1 and 2 with decent stories?Tales of Arterra.
>>3829525>You either oneshot everything with Wail of the Banshee, or stunlock to death with Bigby.Sounds boring.
>>3823814Did you play Chaotic Realm?
>>3832650It's only boring when the game can't challenge you. When you fight bullshit with bullshit, it's very enjoyable.Swordflight's problem is content bloat in every chapter after 1, and it gets especially bad in chapter 4 with Abyssal portals.
There's a guy making a mod for full party control, and it looks really good.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqFa5bVpTbUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQb47cj4FUM
>>3833106Quite impressive.
>>3833106Can't you already do that in EE edition?
>>3823814>>3832827Chaotic World*They brought it back for EE. Not sure if it's still around.
>>3825034In no particular order:- Prophet (Prologue - III) by Baldecaran. My favorite story driven module.- Aielund Saga, for very action movie-esque adventure. It is cheesy, but it serves the purpose well.- Tales of Arterra. It is good, second part is vastly superior to first part.- Honor Among Thieves, by Baldecaran again. If you liked the the thieves guild stuff from BG2, you'll like this.Swordflight, but only chapters 1 and 2. They are the best, in my opinion, especially the second module. It felt like a love letter to BG1 and BG2. Unfortunately, everything after part 2 succumbs to HP sponge encounter design. It is boring as all hell.- A Hunt Through the Dark, Drow-centric campaign.- Crimson Tides of Tethyr- Sapphire StarHonorable mentions:Shadowlords - Dreamcatcher series, by Adam Miller. It's all right.
>>3833183No. The only thing EE added was a very basic option to let you select a party member and give them a target.
I just edged for 5 hours playing a dance with rogues and my pee pee hurts.
>>3831157Same. Played Paladin/Sorcerer/RDD, fire immunity made Abyss hijinks in chapter 4 bearable but the toxic lake and the overpowered kobolds completely killed my desire to continue. Gonna replay with Fighter/WM/Rogue, so hopefully Dev. Crit will carry me through the module.
>>3833229Fighter rogue is killer, though I don't think there's a lot of utility for UMD in Swordflight seeing as gear is tuned for your class
>>3825229>Purple Dragon KnightHow viable is this class in Swordflight? I know the class kind of sucks dick on its own, but does the game give you anything to alleviate that?>>3827732I've played this class combo up to chapter 5. If you don't mind constant tedious pre-buffing before each fight then yeah it's pretty good.

>>3833242>How viable is this class in Swordflight? I know the class kind of sucks dick on its own, but does the game give you anything to alleviate that? Its Fear ability is bugged and has absolutely insane DC if you have negative STR. Might be decent in a meme Rogue build as a full BAB class.Otherwise it's just a worse fighter, but you get a supposedly good ring in the beginning of chapter 4 for your trouble.

Any new modules for party commands? I messed around with an older one that let you order party members around decently independently, but I'm wondering if there's anything better out there. NWN2 has amazing party controls and I wish there were more mods for it.

>>3835086Not PotM specific, but I want the RP to be good in this game so badly.
>>3823814I wanna make a shifter so I can scream I'M GUNNA SHOOOOFT. Whats a good build? I'm thinking of getting cleave.
>>3838829Either you make a STR kobold or a DEX risen lord.
>>3838832b-but there's all these forms like heckin demonflesh golem and dragon. Surely they are going to be used and I'll be shooften all the time, right?
>>3838835Most of them fucking suck. Dragon doesn't suck, but you likely won't reach the level to unlock it.The dedicated shifter builds usually pick a limited number of shapes that don't replace a certain physical stat and max that physical stat.Level range is also important, which module are you going to play?
>>3838839Hordes of the underdark right now. I went through Undrentide or whatever it was called but I was sucking as a shifter so wanted to see what thoughts were out there. I was going for the pure shifter experience. I kinda messed up my stat spread a tad with some int points, I needed strength too for cleave and stuff. The rest is just dumping into wis now.
>>3838840Me shooftin, right now.
>>3838840>The rest is just dumping into wis nowKinda gay, your only options now is to either be LN and dip into a monk, or suck ass in HotU. A good build specifically for HotU would've been maxing dex, taking bard levels and maxing Taunt+Use Magic Device, getting risen lord shape, and wearing the wizard-only robe from the lich in Grimgnaw's party. It casts a negative damage aoe on hit, which heals you in the undead shape. Blue/green/red dragonling -> minotaur -> risen lord, all of them don't replace dex.On the other hand, dipping into a monk in not necessary. You can do a 10/10 druid/shifter split before epic levels, take the risen lord, and either take a level of a wizard and put the rest into shifter to turn your base shapes into epic base shapes, or everything into a wizard to unlock a few buffs. It's kind of a meme gimmick build that is based on a single HotU-exclusive piece of equipment, but it sounds fun.
>>3838846I will consider this as that looks really really funny. I forgot about leveling up a certain way to maximize bab too so I probably already fucked that up. I'm sure I'll be fiiiiiine. And if not then I open up the console and fix that shit. For now I'll be shoofin.
>>3838847Wait a motherfucking second. You know what you can do while shapeshifted? Drink potions. You know what you can also do after taking a feat? Brew potions.Usually potions are very expensive for what they offer, but shifter/wizard who is chugging potions of True Strike to hit enemies with high AC sound absolutely hilarious. I can't promise it works this way, but since you don't mind respecing with a console you should try it. And it only requires a single wizard level.I recommend an illusionist wizard - it gives you an extra slot on every level, and doesn't remove any useful spells.
>>3838848Wait, this entire time I could drink potions while shoofted? Fuck me man, I couldn't use healing kits so I never bothered with potions. These sound really memey but fun. I'll have to consider it for now. I just did that gargoyle puzzle, thank god for gargoyle form to tank that damage. Deekin sucks as ranged, I just threw the dagger and shield on him and he seems to be way more useful.I hear he can go DD in this module and while that seems useless on him it seems thematically appropriate.
>>3838855At shifter 11 you get an epic upgrade for the gargoyle shape and it gets an actually good damage reduction for tanking:https://nwn.fandom.com/wiki/Greater_wildshape_IIRisen lord is still better in most cases, but it sucks against clerics. Valsharess requires using a different shape, for example.

>>3841438I found this was often true on a different PW for nwn2. Good players were often dicks and evil players were often nice.
>>3841442We probably know each other :^).In NWN I am almost done with the Makers island and god fucking dammit what a slog. The puzzles I did like, really cool. But the golems were absolute ass to fight, makes me wish I took a feat for regular weapons because none of my shoofter forms were super great at it. There was that hammer I found that could do more damage but that didnt do much for me considering I couldn't wield it. I pulled the golems around the demon flesh guy so I didn't end up fighting in a massive ball and dunked him without to much effort. Now there is a basement to explore.
>>3841921>Now there is a basement to exploreYou're fucked. There's a scroll of Black Blade of Disaster on one of his bookshelves that can be used to kill him, but you can't read arcane scrolls yet
>>3841928Whatever did he mean by this? Surely there isn't anything to bad down there, right? Not after the golem shuffle. I just hit level 20, I doesn't afraid of anything.
>>3841946Oh thats what he meant. Holy hell, how do I even hit this guy?
>>3842067I may be wrong, but I think he has a nerfed DR. A +10 weapon still shouldn't be enough, but something higher than +10 might work - you can enchant Enserric to +10 and tell him to succ your CON for an extra temporary enhancement. Undead shape is immune to that debuff but gets the bonus, by the way.You can return later anyway, this demilich is more like a superboss. Better leave a portal on an island or near the boat guy in the city - the game will send an NPC who will force you to start the siege after you finish a few main quests, 3 out of 4 I think. If you avoid triggering the script by teleporting, you can finish every quest. But I honestly have no idea how melee characters are supposed to kill unnerfed demiliches - either a magic/divine damage bonus on a weapon, or gorillion STR and Improved Power Attack, I guess.
>>3823814tfw no valsharess gf
>>3841387Is the gear at least an improvement over chapter 4? Basically the best weapons in chapter 2 are on par with the one you find in chapter 4, the progression is boring and lame.

The Bigbrain wants my mirror but I aint giving that shit up, thats MIIIIINNNEE. Yeah so what I can't use it while i'm shoofted, I don't give a fuck. Fuck squiggers. I guess I'll go bully the beholders instead. I got me undead shape so that's pretty cool, I run around screaming bleh at people as a vampire. I also respeced again getting rid of powerattack and cleave because they are kinda useless dogshit. I instead am now a trip master because knockdown is always useful.
>>3841438>In an ironic fashion nornally goody playersSurface players are cliquey noticeboard warrior drama queens. Underdark playerbase's entire existence orbits around PVP. Pick your poison.
>>3842974>as a vampireKinda gay when you have the risen lord shape, but check if the level drain on hit offers a save - wiki doesn't explain that. If there's no save, that meme build with brewing potions of True Strike will also allow you to succ strong enemies until they're helpless. Though I'm not sure MotB has any enemies who justify such elaborate fuckery, while the ganksquad is probably going kill you before you'll be able to properly succ them.

>>3842067Take Valen with you, get him a +10 heavy flail and buff him with whatever you can before the fight. That's about it.
>>3842974Reconsider taking Cleave. It leads to Great Cleave, which is great.
>>3843408>great cleave is greatI see what you did there
These last two quests were fun. The beholder lair was cool up until the queen. I had to redo that more than a few times because I kept failing my saves. Even with the orb of anti-masturbation they would swarm me and then cast again. I eventually pulled the queen, killed her, then had to deal with the goon squad. I cheesed them with darkness on my drow form. The blood cult was easy, right up until the end. I was fighting simon says and he would domination gaze me right before I could kill him. The dracolich wasnt that bad, i saw his cum chalice so I popped that, then would use risenlord to tank his breath. Then I was forced into a siege with a full inventory which went well. Then I beat up that chunni lady, VanDarkholme showed everyone who is the boss of this gym, and now Im dead or something. My only regret is not going back and beating up the lich I could have taken him.
>>3843412>I was fighting simon says and he would domination gaze me right before I could kill himIf only you had a shape that is permanently immune to mind effects...

>>3843438Those forms don't have cock, therefore I cannot utilize rape as a weapon and that is unacceptable. >>3843445Yeah I thought I would get like, a heads up and I could say "oh i'm not ready yet, bitch" butno.I do have my pocket genie so I was able to sell things eventually. Did the maker even drop good loot? I just looted his chests while he wasn't looking before but it was all crap I can't use. Now I'm just chillin in hell. Not a personal one, like a legit one.
>>3843410That was actually an accident. But Great Cleave is very useful.
>>3843923>Great Cleave is very useful. One might even say that it's great.
>>3843923I can see it being very useful with Devastating Critical because the latter ignores HP bloat. But normally it would be pretty low on my priority list.
>>3844005I think it depends on the module. Its great for modules with trash mobs, but on something like swordflight it will hardly activate because your usually never fighting enemies you can 1 shot.Normal cleave on the other hand is great early level for any martial class just for the fact that you regularily get an extra attack.
Well we continue on. I'm so glad there is chip damage constantly now. Really adds a lot of flavor to the game, you know?
Well I got his true name and I'm about to jump to the end. I didn't hit ultra mega level but I dragged around the elf chick for a while so she probably sucked up some xp. Who was completely fucking useless by the way. She didn't even bang me.
>>3844566Did you give up on the wizard dip?
>>3844566Annnnd I beat him. I didn't use his true name so he can come back but thats MY gold and I'm not paying for gay names. All and all it the two modules that make this were pretty fun. I kinda was over it by the time I got to the Ice hell thing, and the puzzles were annoying and they just started throwing enemies at you willy nilly. I never was able to turn into a dragon but thats ok, shifter was pretty fun. Maybe I'll try a wizard next time but I've had my fill of neverwinter for now.Thank you for reading my blog.
>>3844567Yeah, I just kinda did my own thing. Just went druid and shifter for the ARRGHHPEEEEEE. It worked out too, different shapes came in handy for pretty much whatever the game throws at you and risen lord did work, shame no potions though. Minotaur was my main workhorse though due to merging weapons but if I dipped monk I'm sure I could have made the others work just fine. I rate it a solid 7 kobold onaholes out of 10
>>3844566>She didn't even bang me.You can romance Nathyrra. Or Aribeth. Or them both if you pass a diplomacy check.
>>3823814Any module recommendation for the definitive "tutorial Adventurer's Academy" experience? The academy tutorial was so comfy i want an expanded version of it.
>>3823814>PWsI played casually on a few servers, but the one that stands out is Kinky Kingdoms. Does anyone know if that's still a thing?
>>3845226Make one yourself, I also wanted something similar but can't think of a dedicated one.
>>3823814what's a good race/class to play for the expansion packs? I did a human bard in the original campaign
>>3849543Human Sorcerer. Early SoU will be fine because you have a rogue/cleric or a sorcerer/barbarian companion to serve as meat shield, then it's just a question of spell selection. Epic levels will be just spam of IGMS and WoB, though. NwN wiki has a good recommended spell list in case you don't know what you need. The wizard has more spells learned and gets them a bit earlier, but I prefer to have more spell slots and to not have to fiddle with spell slots each time I need to choose exact spells and/or metamagic I'll use.
>>3849543Anything good in melee except for a monk. HotU has some powerful enchantments for weapons and you can get Enserric, a powerful dagger, short sword, long sword or two handed sword, whichever you prefer, very early.
Played again after having not in a long time and ran SoE with the PRC as a Cleric. I'm not sure if it was the PRC or NWN or really just DND but the game is just a slog of *Miss*, *Miss*, *Miss*, and I find it boring (This probably is DnD's problem of not having different types of misses). The itemization of +N items is also pretty shit, it tries to be easy to understand but in the end it is just dull too. I want to like it, maybe I played the wrong character, but I remember that from vanilla back in the day as well. SoE was still fun though. Story was engaging especially rewriting it a bit.
>>3849543I just played through it as a Paladin 1/Cleric X. Paladin lets you add Charisma to saves and get the Holy Avenger that will carry you a long time, Cleric is competent in melee especially and can nuke groups of energy with spells later.
>>3849885SoE -> SoU don't know what I was thinking.
>>3849885>>3849887Mising as a Cleric sure is something. Are you making use of your buffs?Melee Clerics are busted as hell.
>>3849886>>3849954Na its breddy normal for SoU since it does that thing where you are low level for a good portion of the game and without a full bab nwn sucks ass in melee on low lvls. You lack the amount of buffs to get to that point where clerics are op. So your attack bonus even for your first attack will be <10 during the bigger parts of the first chapter and the nature of rolling a d20 for attacking and having a lot of enemies with ~15ac min means you end up with a 25%-50% miss chance for a long, long time. Considering you are stuck with one attack till lvl 8 and even then your second attack sucks ass and that SoU ends at what, lvl 12? 14? with the corresponding itemization. So if you are not minmaxing super hard you will sit there for probably two thirds of the game being not that great in melee.Thats just how low magic nwn works on lower levels. I always found that to be pretty good though because you are supposed to be not that good in melee when your class is primary a caster. High level, high magic just turns everything into casterland since casters have access up to 9th level spells without any real drawbacks and fighters, barbarians and to lesser extend weapon masters just become obsolete.
>>3849971>without a full bab nwn sucks ass in melee on low lvlsEhh. There are good low level spells that help with that issue.>>level 1>Bless>Divine favor>Magic weapon>>Level 2>Aid>Bull's strength>>Level 3>Prayer>DarkfireAnd that's only about the offense. Cleric has as much defensive buffs. Divine power (level 4 cleric spell) completely mogs fighters but even before that you can do very well by just whacking mobs with your weapon of choice.
>>3849971Sounds like my experience with my Cleric to be sure. I was trying to abuse all the buffs I had still felt I was missing a lot (so were they of course). and I didn't have a ton of trouble with the campaign it was just a slog. But that is the problem, every *Miss* is the same. Why can't there be dodges, glances, misses, parrys, etc. At least that would make it more interesting. It is like there are two idiots fighting instead of an intense battle.
>>3850053>Why can't there be dodges, glances, misses, parrys, etcThat's literally what AC means. It's a combination of armor protection, shield protection, dodge, natural armor, magical deflection and so on. The animations don't account for that and just assume miss = dodge, and I agree that Neverwinter Nights 1 has horrible animations.
>>3850053Visually, there kind of is. There are different animations of a character dodging, blocking with a shield, etc. That's one thing that NWN1 does better than 2, actually.
>>3850058Is there? So why were they all designated *Miss*?>>3850057Yeah but when combined down to one AC stat right? It loses all the flavor. Which probably the idea is that I add that myself in DnD, but that too is boring, did they whiff me or did I dodge, or did it bounce of my helm?
>>3850066>Which probably the idea is that I add that myself in DnDPnP also has the AC stat that works very similarly to the game. The difference is, your DM can describe how your fight is going, so some fighter in full plate will just have swords sliding off of his armor while your monk will be dodging everything by the tightest margin. Your wizard will use the shield spell, creating an oscillating force field for a split second that stops an arrow and so on. I said it already but NWN 1 has bad animations. Every round takes 6 seconds, so you attack once and then you observe how your character makes silly steps in some random direction and waits for the next round. It's far worse than just the animations of the dodge. NWN 2 at least got rid of that walking in place.>inb4 but muh animation of the opportunity attack! These look the worst of them all. Getting rid of them only helps.
>>3850066>did they whiff me or did I dodge, or did it bounce of my helm?Yes.
>>3850074Yeah I don't put any fault on NWN, it does what it can, it has to adapt the turn based rules it has into something that looks kinda real-timeish And honestly some times it works out fine, but then there are times where me and my opponent go 0/3 on hitting each other, and my immersion is snapped instantly. Stuck around through all of SoU and started HotU, haven't played in a while.
>>3850081I think it actually takes away from the experience rather than adds by leaving it unrestricted. Which seems counterintuitive but I feel like it does. I think DnD is flawed to begin with so all of these adaptations are doomed.
>>3850083>Yeah I don't put any fault on NWN, it does what it can, it has to adapt the turn based rules it has into something that looks kinda real-timeishThat's the crux of the problem. BG 1 and 2 didn't suffer from it because even the low level fights were faster paced and you didn't observe your character from a close up, but your whole party from far up. People shit on BG 3 but going full turn based was the right decision. The other problem, in my opinion, is what HP means and how people view it. It's not health points, it's hit points and I think of it as an abstract "second layer" of protection, like a fate or something causing you to avoid severe damage. If an enemy passes your AC then they shave off your hit points, maybe cause a bruise or some small injury you can deal with while resting. That's how I explain to myself that if a fighter in a full plate is hit, that doesn't mean the sword magically phases through the armor without some damage reduction or even destroying your gear and when you are dropped to 0 hit points, it actually pierces through your underarm.
>>3850091You're right about the bigger fights, good point. I intentionally avoided companions and didn't have a familiar this time around so that might've also exacerbated the situation. Just waiting for my mace to actually contact. To be clear though, if it was undead I was fighting (which happens a decent amount in SoU) I absolutely fucking wrecked shit.
>>3850091>People shit on BG 3 but going full turn based was the right decision.BG1 and 2 were good despite being RTWP, not because of itBG3 is bad despite being turn based, not because of it
>>3850084Armor class was always an abstraction based on naval war games. AC1 was the best, a ship of the line first class, AC2 was a second class ship of the line, etc. hence THAC0 was an abstraction to speed up dice math.
>>3850105>BG3 is bad despite being turn based, not because of itWhat I mean is that the system that was used for NWN 1 and 2 is bad and if BG 3 tried to emulate it, it would end up catastrophic.>BG1 and 2 were good despite being RTWP, not because of itI agree fully. RTWP is a very boring design, vastly inferior to turn-based. On the other hand, NWN 1/2 was an experiment that, in my opinion, failed.
>>3823814I came to vrpg today specifically because I got bored of NWN2 but I didn't want to migrate to Conan Exiles. How funny that a NWN2 thread pops up.
