I've been mulling over ideas for a game (Amatuer, made in RPGmaker I know know, I'm a poser "learn to code!" GET FUCKED SCRUB, but I've worked a lot with RPG maker and I know how to play it)Here's the elevator pitch, Skyrim, but with the graphics of Pic relatedSo yeah, have this huge, sprawling, intracite RPG experience (I'm a published fantasy writer wont tell you my books here) so I'm pretty good at writing and really that's what I want to do this for, to make an epic fantasy immersive storyAnd I figure that the Atari Graphics could but the "Hook" that makes people curious. The idea is they start playing it and they feel "Holy shit, I'm invested in my little 1x1 square" Like I want to make a whole world, you can pick your race (color of your square) deep branching dialogue trees, open world to explore, relying on imagination picturing everything as my dialogue and character work does the heavy lifting.I think this could be a meme game, sell it on steam or itch for 2.99 just a fun little side project.I've fooled around with the maker and I can make a game look like this pretty easily (take a resource image from the RTP, Fill with a solid color, that's all you have to do)So yeah, Skyrim but 8-bit, would you be interseted?
>>3831470>Atari Graphics could but the "Hook" that makes people curious. And once the novelty wears off, one would be interested in everything but that. For a game with extremely limited audiovisual elements, I expect it to deliver in every other front: gameplay, story, characters, level of freedom, and so on. Stuff you want to see in high-budget titles but typically don't get to. Give me a reason to play it over many other RPGs, give me what they don't. And do it with passion, because I doubt you can create a>huge, sprawling, intracite RPG experiencewith an attitude like>just a fun little side projectMaybe you just worded it poorly, but it doesn't sound like you're necessarily commited to the idea. It has potential, especially if you actually are a decent writer, and it should be way more than "a fun little side project" to you if you actually want it turned into something beautiful.
>>3831470Sounds like you're just another bigmouth faggot that is better at selling product than actually providing it.Nobody here will support your garbage vaporware that you try to shill on Kickstarter, especially that it's obvious that you have no clue what you're talking about. Give up.
Ignore this poster >>3831603 we have a herd of humanod bots who post demoralization stuff in every thread. Most of them removed their genitals too.You can always add a tileset later, as per Dwarf Fortress and Cataclysm.
if you can elevate it with some writing I think it could work. Very niche audience tough, I would expect around 2000 in sales, depending on price. gota have a short development time to make it worth it if you're doing it full time
>>3831732don't make it a novel tough, thefocusshould be on creating simple but interesting areas maximizing these of simple single colored blocks, that re abstractions of real spaces
>>3831732> I would expect around 2000 in salesI made a niche game (Dragon Quest 1 + FTL) with intentionally rough visuals and it was just short of $800 gross in 1 year. Many things get deducted from gross, then gaben takes 30% of that, then I pay self-employment on the remainder. Or at least, I *would* pay self-employment tax on the remainder if my operating expenses were lower than the income. Which they are not. I literally pay more in state and local taxes than I earn in revenue. Making 2 grand on a niche indie game was true 5 years ago, but it's kind of not anymore. I was expecting 2-3 kilodollars from the project, as I knew it was always going to be niche. But reality turned out to be worse than my lowest projections.
>>3831470Quit overcompensating for your nonexistent contribution to fantasy lit and lurk more
>>3831470>So yeah, Skyrim but 8-bit, would you be interseted?I'm a snes guy, so no. 8 bit is asked for, so go for it.
>>3831470>I've fooled around with the maker and I can make a game look like this pretty easily (take a resource image from the RTP, Fill with a solid color, that's all you have to do)You'd want to tweak it a bit more to make it feel like an Atari game too. Per-pixel movement and stuff. RPG Maker is cool, but it has a very distinctive feel to it that will take away from what you're going for, unless you make adjustments. I think this works best if you commit to making it feel like an Atari game in many ways.Fun idea otherwise, good luck.
>>3831470I'd get it for 0.50 on sale.
>>3831750because your game sucks, dream warrior dev. couldn't even draw a proper sprite for the final boss
>>3831470>>3831750Stupid. Make a video game with attractive visuals, or don't make one at all.We got enough spiritually ugly people making ugly things
>>3832787holy shit, steam now requires devs to say if they used slop in their games? can they be sued if they lie?
>>3832885No, the best thing you can hope for is Steam taking down the game. You can't really prove that AI was used in the making of the game if the dev gave a fuck anyway.
>>3831470This is a cool idea, don't listen to the tranni poasters.>>3831750Unironically post your game, please. I would love to play it. >>3832787Tranny>>3832866You're ugly because you are a tranny>>3831603Also a tranny, don't think I forgot about you
holy samefag dude just take the l and leave
>>3832787I wondered where the traffic was coming from. I haven't shilled in a long time. Thanks, anon! But no, you're right. It does kind of suck. That's what niche means, that most people think it sucks. As long as most of the complaints are about the visuals, I'm pretty satisfied with that level of sucking. All the same, if you knew what I was talking about when I said "DQ 1 + FTL", that means it's relatively unexplored design space. That's my goal, making weird, stupid stuff that no one else would.>>3832866I am a bit curious where you're coming from. Can you name 5 games with attractive visuals? There are right answers to the question, and also wrong ones.>>3832885>>3832893Yeah, frankly I probably should not have disclosed. No output from an AI ended up in Dream Warrior. It was useful to quickly get some concept art and references done though. If I had used AI art, the visual quality would have been a lot higher. Even so, I got added (via bots, ironically) to some lists of games that use AI. I actually think that's kind of funny. That said I'd still rather err on the side of being honest when it comes to disclosure.>>3833212The other guy got it right, Dream Warrior. I'm not particularly invested in shilling it these days though, but it's easy enough to find.If this is >>3831470 good luck on the game. I've considered something like that, but I just have zero nostalgia for the Atari era. I played it a little as a kid, but once I got a NES in '89 I never looked back.I'm not super convinced there is an audience for that who still plays games, but if there is, I wish you well in finding it.
>>3833621I think these homos that bitch about AI art need to shut the fuck up. Paintpigs. I'll play your game soon, Anon.
>>3831470It sounds like an interesting project. Would it be a roguelike?
Interesting premise, if it has HBO-level writing and story then sure. Give us a buzz when you have some demo to play and work with. I will genuinely root for you.
>>3831470>Here's the elevator pitch, Skyrim, but with the graphics of Pic related>just a fun little side project.I'm sorry anon, but I can already tell you're grossly underestimating the amount and complexity of the work involvedhave you finished a game before? you mentioned rpg maker, I think starting small with a less systemic and more straightforward story-centric jrpg would probably suit you better if you're a writer. if you've been there and done that, fair enoughgood luck
>>3831470picrel reminded me this
>>3832316>Dlvl:1Is that as far as you could go, noob?
