Considering how successful and critically acclaimed it was, it's weird that /vrpg/ never talks about this game.
>>3831742I haven't played it yet, I'm waiting for it to go on sale
>>3831742because actual RPG fans don't like this gameit's a game for tourists, mostly the soulslike crowd
>>3831742the threads didn't pick up here much because /v/idiots were trying to do some weird east vs west shit with it as if this isn't a weeb game through and through. just not very interesting discussion around the actual game outside of mocking minigames in rpg combat.
>>3831742I think it’s a 10/10 but in the same way that I think FFX was a 10/10. I don’t really have the desire to talk about either, just replay them every year or so.
>>3831742>/vrpg/ never talks about this game./vrpg/ hasn't played games past 11.11.11, the day when RPGs peakedBut fr this is a boomer board
>>3831742what is interesting about it?
>>3831796Creativity of the world, the gameplay is good (though broken if you exploit it), and the story is emotional and relatable because it's centered around the grief of a family.
>>3831742Timed hits and QTEs = fake gameplay. You only insert garbage like this into your turn-based RPG to chase trends and appeal to the lowest common denominator.Tomato Adventure and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga have legitimate excuses because they're games for younger gamers who aren't mentally equipped for actual strategy. E33 does not.
>>3831808>centered around the grief of a family. This is by far the worst thing about E33. Act I was absolutely phenomenal and then the story shits the bed with the family drama in Act II.
>>3831827You're definitely not the only one of thinks that, I've heard that repeated around here. I don't think that's a bad opinion to have because the mystic of the game is all before you learn about the family. But I think the later Acts connect with people more emotionally. Stories that connect to the real human experience hit people harder than say heroic saving the world stories.
>>3831742Because it's not actually a good game.It got buzz so some casuals picked it up for that reason alone and youtubers made shitty "emotional reaction scene" videos and they never finished it.The game even gets worse the longer you play. There is nothing good about the game. Not the combat, not the aesthetics, not the gameplay, not the story & plot, not the characters. If you like generic music then I guess that's fine.
>>3831742It's perfect so there is nothing to debate about so threads can't stay on 4chan

>>3831742That game is an almost flawless masterpiece. From music, to writing, to optimization, to builds, to voice acting, to level design, and so on.Every critic you can make about it is valid, yet surface level polishing because that game is incredibly well built from start to finish, it's not half-baked like 99% of modern games. It's not woke, characters are actually beautiful, the humor is actually funny, the cinematography is top tier. All that with a small studio of nobody with almost no experience in gaming at all.Not liking the game is one thing, everyone has his own taste. But anyone who shit on it with bold claims, I immediately filter them as utter retard or contrarian. This game proved that small studio can shit masterpieces with 10% of big studio funds and manpower, while the later are unable to shit barely edible slop every 10 years now.We could have multiple games of this caliber per years, but instead here we are.

And in terms of aesthetics and tone, E33 is 100% WRPG, absolutely in line with the recent popular WRPGs like Baldur's Gate 3 or Elder Scrolls. The only reason E33 is called a "JRPG" is because people wrongfully think JRPG just means "turn-based RPG".

>>3832552The only reason I call it a JRPG is because it makes that one autist seethe
>>3832553>This nigga thinks jRPG=animeIt kind of does, at least in part.A game must be meaningfully culturally and/or aesthetically Japanese in order to be called a JRPG.I would apply my argument in reverse, too. I count most FromSoftware games as Japanese-made WRPGs because of how overtly westernized they are in aesthetics, tone and feel.
>>3832598There is no "WRPG" aesthetic or gameplay commonality. FromSoftware makes Action RPGs, hybrids. You have severe genre confusion due to rampant newfagism.
>>3831742because its popular was astrotufed and most of the praise for it came from people whove barely played an rpg in their life
>>3832553The "J" in JRPG is meaningless if any RPG that's not even made in Japan can be called that just for being turn and party based when that particular style of RPG originated with Wizardry which was from America. People here will get so uppity about the definition of certain genres when a game is not ticking every single box in their mind but will have a pretty liberal interpretation of the JRPG, which historically also gives you much less freedom to actually roleplay compared to WRPGs.
>>3832705stop acting like a white girl in a pink diaper and overwriting the truth. WRPGs are dull self insertionist drivel.
>>3831742Just finished the game. Wasn´t expecting a traditional happy ending or anything like that but i wasn´t expecting it to be both choices to be so sour and extreme. Guess that´s why it´s called Clair Obscure.
>>3832705>can be called that just for being turn and party based when that particular style of RPGGood thing that isn't what's happening. The jRPG influences on this particular game are obvious, from Shadow Hearts to FF to LoD to Persona, it's closer to a jRPG than to a cRPG or an Action RPG or a SRPG or a DRPG. It's not a full-blooded jRPG, sure, it has other influences for sure, but there's nothing wrong with people calling it a jRPG because people who like jRPGs would probably like this game.

Pacing was a bit questionable, and they probably should have given you the air ship sooner, and encouraged you to explore the map a bit more. Also Lune and Sciel do like fucking nothing in the entire narrative.I liked it though. Aren't they in the real world?

>>3837810It's pretty story heavy, takes a while to get you into the action.
>>3837820How long is a while? Like an hour? And once you get past that does the gameplay continue to get interrupted a lot for more cutscenes and dialogue?

>>3831742They got me invested in this world and the cast of characters and then in the last third of the game decided that actually only Renoir, Verso, and Maelle were important and I lost all interest
>>3838107Man, that's some really awful art.
>>3838107I like the art, but yeah this panel sucksThe ending is subversive kino comedy thoughever
>>3838522Does it though. You get personal quests for both Lune and Monoco too. You even get some insight on Clea´s motivations. If there is a flaw is that regardless of outcome none of them affect Verso or Maelle respective perspectives and choices at the end but i do believe they do affect us as the players that actually make the choice. On one side both Lune and Monoco quests convey that these characters have motivations and feelings and thus they are alive on their own right. Even though Monoco is obviously the pooch, Lune is obviously Clea and Sciel is obviously an Aline stand-in on the other hand you find Alicia and Clea and they both convey the idea that they do not belong in that place.I doubt the point is to make the final choice easier but all these quests give substance to both perspectives so their presence is hardly useless. People that say they don´t matter probably went right back to Lumiere to fight Renoir and did all the other stuff as post game. Is that the game´s fault? Kind off but i heard they fixed that and now you can scale that area if you do the other stuff first.
Why is escapism always framed as the bad option?eva, matrix, all isekai powertrip fantasies, ff tactics, now e33, if I could create the perfect world, live in it with godlike powers and my creations are indistinguishable from real people why the fuck would I choose the 'real' world? The only people who would are the ones with an already at least ok if not downright great life outside.Being a god >>>>>>>>> being a crippled mute.

Alicia should not be allowed to kill herself because she is underage or something. The other Alicia who is not underage can kill herself though, that's fine.Verso should be allowed to kill himself and take everyone with him because he is 100 and he never asked for it.But Aline, who is a fuck knows how many thousands of years old eldritch god monster, creator and destroyer of hundreds of worlds, should not be allowed to kill herself because reasons. Actually everyone else should die instead. The morals in this game are fucking weird.
>>3840424Bias for the "real world" characters.I side with Maelle.
>>3840424It's morally weird for a husband to try to safe his wife from overdosing on canvas?
>>3840459As Verso would say, there are things you can't outrun. They both lived many, many lifetimes, and Aline made her choice to end it. If anyone had that right, it was her. Now, under different circumstances Renoir could have been completely in the right. However the story they actually wrote is one where a bunch of quasi-immortal sociopaths wage war on each other for the right to kill themselves, meanwhile the people who were just fighting for a future where their children can maybe perhaps live long enough to reach adulthood get told to take one for the team and fucking die. It's downright bizarre.
it's 2025, halfway through the 2020's, and this is a top contender for game of the decade. I'm very happy to hear that Clair Obscur will be part of a franchise. They can definitely expand on the story, perhaps use previous expeditions. People's complaints about this being a story heavily focused on family dynamics probably like Star Wars for the toys, watch wrestling, and pick lint out of their belly button in public. Besides the narrative, the combat is satisfying and complex. For 2025, it should win GOTY. Some are saying KCD2 is better but I doubt their judgement, too
>>3840250>Anti-trans sentiment.technically yes, since the trans people don't accept themselves for who they are and instead want to change themselves then force others to go along with their own inacceptance of themselves. trans is running away from who you really are.

I've only heard of this game, but have not looked at it in any detail until today. I really wanted to try it from what I heard about it, but looking at the combat, it looks more jrpg than crpg and now I'm not sure if I will like it. I used to love jrpgs, but this combat looks very flashy and modern jarpiggy and now I'm reluctant to try it, at least for full price.
>>3843568you play rpgs for the story / character dynamics, you'll like it even at full price.you value gameplay more, you'll drop it at the second boss.

>>3843568If you are not categorically opposed to rhythm game dodge/parry mechanics in your jrpgs then the combat is honestly one of the game's highlights. It has an incredibly satisfying difficulty curve with build options opening up and optional enemies getting ridiculously OP in tandem.Although by the end most player begin naturally gravitating to either the magical girl Maelle or school shooter Verso builds.

>>3843768Magical Girl Maelle spinoff when?
>e33>good storyThe fuck am I reading. An extremely tropey mid story that shits itself not even halfway and then pretends to have a message.
I think Maelle is really cute
>>3844210>maelle>is actually femaelleWhat did they mean by this?
>>3844212the frogs are very pro-trans
it's funny how this thread and the avalon one both have the same butt ugly looking drab cover

>>3844480Who you are, and reality itself, is malleable and not easily recognized.Butterfly dreaming of being a man and all that. Can't blame people for being confused.
>>3844506There's a big difference between going to the gym to thinking you're the opposite gender (or no gender) and go through operations and substances and then wanting others also to get in on this extreme LARPing. Usually the latter stems from mental issues.
>>3844594Not that different. People go to the gym to make themselves attractive or healthy. Running from loneliness and fear of death respectively. Most people are fucked in the head and few choose transcendence. People just focus on the obvious shit and miss their own nonsense.
>>3844607If you unironically think going to the gym (i.e. lifting weights) is the same as so strongly wanting to be the opposite sex to>convince yourself you're actually the opposite sex, despite being born a man/woman>go through extreme operations to superficially make you look like the oppposite sex>take medication to alter your physiology a bit to make you seem more like the opposite sex>demanding others treat you as the opposite sexyou are deranged. It's fundamentally different in terms of everything, from the practicality to the mentality to the motivations. If someone has mental issues and want to go through the trans procedure, fine. But if they think doing that is no different than someone lifting some weights they are subject to actively unhealthy levels of delusion. Don't even bother to argue this, because I have no interest in engaging with delusional people. That's what your shrink is getting paid for.
