Sorry for making a mini love letter for G1 but holy fucking shit, gothic 1 is so good, impressive not only because it is possibly the first open world, open ended, third person roleplaying game ever. But because the map, the story, the character, the progression of the missions, all was fucking good.
And you can see how this later influenced other games like witcher and also has more in common with modern rpg's like souls games than, for example, fallout or diablo or planescape, it even competes with morrowind which is fucking massive and made by a AAA company.
I've played 1 hour and I am very fatigued by the inventory, the gold system and the retarded npc's in the first town, i think the getting into the city mission is a pretty good problem solving introduction for what the game will be, and I'm curious to see what did Diego do to end up in jail but holy fuck something about the controls, the "every merchant sells weapons" the "instead of amulets we now use belts" and fucking gameplay problems like suddenly the character just draws the weapon forever or clips into a dungeon made me uninstall the game.
Is it actually worth it? For me I think I will like G1 the most because I actually loved the atmosphere of being trapped in a magic prison (That's why I also liked stalker 1 and witcher 1).
Maybe I should switch to another game? In the last month I've goon through thief 1 and 2, arx fatalis and gothic. Is 2 worth to continue or should I leave it for another time and try something else?

I've completed gothic 1 while working, having a leg injury and playing gregtech when I'm tired of gothic. I want to clone myself and kill my clone.

I've heard wizardry (6,7,)8 is great, I also left morrowind after 30 hours some years ago. But I crave and oldschool rpg that feels claustrophobig like arx fatalis or gothic. Mmmm easternslop...
There's a lot of shitty rpg's I have on my steam wishlist so I can pirate them... Gothic seems great but it is just too much to me for now.

But to stay on topic I wanted to know if the game is actually worth the hype, does it get better later on? Because to me it seems like the transition from G1's "great and innovative RPG" to the bridge that brings it down and later on made generic mediocre rpg's like risen, elex, and gothic III.

I dont like how minmaxy they made 2 with notr installed

Gothic 2 is overrated

I have to point out that despite how good gothic 1 is, the fucking ending, the fucking putrid final fight where your level 30 character gets stunlocked permanently with infinite range fire attack that the boss before the final boss and without anythingyou can do except abuse the system invoking 50 skeletons that do exactly 0 damage to any enemy. and only beat the semi final boss because of a bug, then chugging potions as I run into the 5 mcguffins and watch the worst ending cinematic to any game ever.
Though I enjoyed entering the final temple transformed as a cockrcoach just finding the right spot where hitboxes from the door and the wall aren't trully connected.
I enjoyed gothic 1

It's not as unique and atmospheric as the original but the gameplay is improved and there's simply way more content than Gothic 1. Since it relies so much on the NPCs and story beats from the first game it always felt more like Gothic Part 2 than a standalone experience to me.

I suggest playing G2 without Raven expansion.

I'm doing just that, it's actually pretty cool.
No fucking jpgs of sumerian rocks.
Everything is more coherent now.
The "food trader" doesn't sell me endgame weapons anymore.
I guess NOTR is for a replay of the game with new stuff.

>controls
Something to get used to
>"every merchant sells weapons"
>"instead of amulets we now use belts"
Stop whining about trifles.
>suddenly the character just draws the weapon forever or clips into a dungeon
Do you have the latest patches? I never had that kind of problem.

The real problem with gold edition is that it's hard as fuck and gets even harder if you don't find all powerups and take them at the right moment. Get a balancing mod if you want to enjoy it. I also suggest getting a sprint mod to shorten the distances.
>But that's cheating
If you use it to get past dangerous enemies or something, yes. (You could do the same with speed potions). If you use it to escape dangerous enemies (instead of reloading) or to shorten the distance, it's simply an improved experience.
