What is the comfiest JRPG?
Probably Legend of Mana. Zero challenge, all aesthetic.
>>3837907You just posted it. That or Lunar.
FF IX, the original Kingdom Hearts or Ni no Kuni i guess. My criteria being you don´t have to check guides or play just the right way to indulge autistic behaviors to get ultimate weapons or secret endings. You just play and have fun. It doesn´t get more relaxing and thus comfier than that.
>>3837936>FF IX>you don´t have to check guides or play just the right way to indulge autistic behaviors to get ultimate weaponslol
>>3837907Anachronox, anyone who says otherwise shouldn’t be posting here
>>3837918Great pick.
>>3838049Still waiting for the sequel, I heard it's any day now
>>3837907>comfiestIs that what we're calling this bloated, do nothing, go nowhere black hole of plot series now?
>>3838152sky 1 is an incredibly comfy game, though. objectively.
>>3838152You can't judge the old games on what the series became. That's like saying Final Fantasy 6 is bad because Final Fantasy 16 was bad.
>>3837907Bot thread https://arch.b4k.dev/vrpg/search/text/Comfiest/type/op/
>>3838192Wow, multiple people on /vrpg/ have used the word "comfy" in a sentence before? That's incredible, what are the odds?
>>3838095[skeleton_on_bench.jpg]
>>3838084Funny thing is that I dislike the game. It's pretentious, vacuous, and poorly designed.
>>3838262What makes it "pretentious"? Just because the writing/overall quality wasn't as good as the art and music ?
>>3837907Octopath fans will say their game is the best JRPG out there because all they want is a comfy grindable "open-world" JRPG, while not doing anything new or groundbreaking at all
>>3838275The narratives in general are trying too hard and float between somber and whimsical to the point of whiplash. I don't really care about quality, but rather content.
>>3838282Yeah I don't think Mana games ever put much effort on the narratives either
>>3838286Yeah, they should've put "less" effort into LoM.
>>3838276>while not doing anything new or groundbreaking at allNot everything needs to be new or groundbreaking.
>>3837938It's true, though. I played FF9 for the first time a couple of years ago and I got pretty much everything that mattered. obviously Excalibur II is effectively unattainable, but it's really just a trophy for hardcore fans on future replays, anyway. It's really not hard at all to find everything in FF9 as long as you're not an ignorant retard who doesn't engage with games.
>>3838458It's not a good example of a game that has no obscure guidebait secrets though. If you ignore guidebait to begin with, then>It's really not hard at all to find everything inalmost every jRPG.
>>3837907"comfy" is a subjective term. But Skies of Arcadia and Grandia really do it for me. Dragon Quests 5, 8, and 11 are solid, as well as Final Fantasies 5, 7, and 9.The problem is that, at some point, games become "comfy" to you just because you're used to them, and not necessarily because they have a naturally-occuring aura of comfort.
>>3838461>t's not a good example of a game that has no obscure guidebait secrets though. What are some of these "obscure guide bait secrets", outside of Excalibur II, which obviously isn't something you're even supposed to get on a normal playthrough?
>>3838276>all they want is a comfy grindable "open-world" JRPG, while not doing anything new or groundbreaking at allArguably, the Dragon Quest III remake is better at doing all of that than either Octopoath.
>>3838470Ah, you're slow.>outside of Excalibur IISee, you say this is ignorable. well then every game with guidebait should have that guidebait be ignorable. What's an example of guidebait that really adds something to the game? It's all inconsequential if one is.
>>3838461>It's really not hard at all to find everything in>almost every jRPG.Exactly the point. "Playing without a guide" is not the same thing as "playing without a brain". Just because something isn't super-obvious or dropped right in your lap doesn't mean you need a guide for it. That's true for 99% of FF9's content. Chono Cross, on the other hand, requires you do make some decisions, often unknowingly, that keep you from being able to do certain quests or obtain certain characters later on. But then, it's definitely a game designed for multiple replays.
>>3838481Routes aren't guidebait. It's a stupid requirement for a game to be considered "comfy" only if it lacks missables, but FF9 doesn't. Any jRPG can be beat without guides, so it's not about the game at that point, it's about the player and their fomo.
>>3838475So what guidebait does FF9 have besides the intentionally-challenging Excalibur II which is meant to be earned by diehard fans after multiple playthroughs? You didn't really answer. You just insulted me and made a word salad.
>>3838488lmao, your question meant you didn't understand my post, moron.
>>3837918The challenge is understanding the various complex systems you don't actually need to engage with because the game is so easy.
>>3837907Breath of Fire 3 childhood.
>>3838152That's the buzzword they've started to use for this shit game, yes.
>>3838496Yeesh, enough with the insults. I get it, you're mad you got called out on a game you're not actually familiar with. No need for vitriol.
>>3837918This game would probably be one of my favorite games of all time if it even had an inkling of challenge and a few fixes to the combat. The concept is so fucking brilliant, I've always wanted to be immersed in a bizarre, fickle fairy tale world like the one in Legend of Mana. The fact that characters who have died in the various stories in the game can be found wandering the "Underworld" region is just the fucking icing on the cake of detail this game has... All it really needs is more application to the mechanics, which are already quite vast."God, the music is just too fucking good as well https://youtu.be/_HRzKkD20YM?si=cmsgEaD2mkLJbUTe
>>3838932I accept your concession.
