>please watch all these adsNot an RPG.
>>3840063Cautiously optimistic. Seems much better than the first game. Fills a void of a decent RPG during the second half of the year. I like space settings, espectiall for RPGs since it's so rare. That's basically my thoughts.
>>3840063>HopesNoneDreams?Of new Vegas>FearsThat it will not kill Obsidian
you would have to pay me 70 american dollars to play this
I hope it flops on its tranny face.
>>3840063Was the first game really enough of a success to justify making a sequel? I played it and while it had some amusing moments here and there, I thought it was mostly mediocre to bad.
>>3840220>Was the first game really enough of a success to justify making a sequel?Obsidian's schtick is making moderately budgeted games that are solid and sell enough. From Microsofts POV Outer Worlds fills a kind of similar niche as Fallout, which we won't see a new mainline game in a very long time since Bethesda's next game is Elder Scrolls.Starfield was also a massive flop, so MS is probably looking to see if they can turn Outer Worlds into an ongoing series (because we're never getting a Starfield 2).
>>3840221I just don't believe a California dev can really be that low budget. It's still probably 2-3x Japanese dev costs for comparable production values, nevermind Chinese-language outsourcing mills. Meaning they probably need to be selling a million or so real copies to be in the black if you include whatever subsidy they get from Microsoft for producting Live content.
>>3840230>I just don't believe a California dev can really be that low budget. It is low budget for the type of games they're making. The cost of making Outer Worlds is incomparible to Starfield. You can even see the budget and one of the major complaints on this board was people expecting something on the level of Skyrim in terms of scope.>It's still probably 2-3x Japanese dev costs for comparable production valuesLiving and working in japan is very expensive. Odd choice for your example.>Chinese-language outsourcing millsAlmost all games make use of outsourcing. Virtuous being one of the more common ones that has a footprint in china and the like. Yes, including most american companies. In case it wasn't obvious, Outer Worlds 1 made enough money to greenlit a sequel with a higher budget. And for now it fills a niche with being a first person sci-fi (space) RPG. Not exactly a ton of these going around.
>>3840239>You can even see the budget and one of the major complaints on this board was people expecting something on the level of Skyrim in terms of scope. Are you talking about Avowed? With Outer Worlds people wanted Space New Vegas.People need to think of Obsidian as a straight to Game Pass dev. You really aren't supposed to buy their games outright.
>>3840239Jap game budgets are like a third of US and western European ones for stuff that has similar scope and polish, despite it not being a cheap place. And that was before the yen lost a shitload of value relative to investments that are often in dollars. Someone could construct a post-hoc explanation for it but it's also just how it is.
>>3840220It sold 5 million copies, reviewed very well, and won several awards. You guys don't have to like the game, but it is very easy to tell you guys get your opinions from rage baiting YouTubers.
>>3840320I get my opinions from myself, I don't watch gaming youtubers since I've got a normal number of chromosomes. I legitimately didn't know how well it did, hence me asking.
>>3840063>hopesyou committing suicide>dreamsyou committing suicide>fearsyou not committing suicide
>>3840322They gave away shitloads of free copies and count downloads on Game Pass as sales. I got it with a GPU on EGS for free. It did good enough, and it adds value to Game Pass. Grounded is Obsidian's real moneymaker now.
>>3840334Companies do not count those copies in sales, dumbass.
>>3840338I mean, I'm never going to convince you because it's not like they are going to advertise, so whatever. But this isn't 5 million sales.
Steamchart posting retard, the game is on 6 other platforms.
Damn, Obsidiots get so mad. I already said they were counting Game Pass downloads.
>>3840348>>3840342Snake Eater Delta had less players and sold a million copies in a day. Do you like being a retard?
>>3840348See:>>3840338
>>3840350Sure, a million is nothing and kojimatards don't play games on Steam.
I like that they added third person mode and equipment that gives you a double jump. I have no idea why there is such a hate boner for Obsidian.
>>3840352I think they do. :)
>>3840354>I have no idea why there is such a hate boner for ObsidianIt's because they don't often make good RPGs and they have a history of buggy unfinished or mediocre titles, so they are divisive. The real amusing part of shitting on Obsidian is how dedicated and angry their fanboys are, they believe the company can do no wrong. Been like that for many many years.
>>3840356Their games are no more buggy than CDPRs, Larian, or Owlcat's, or Bethesda's
>>3840358I'm not a fanboy, anon, you can't get to me. I didn't like most of Larian's games except BG3 with is held back by 5th edition, Bethshit sucks, hate the Witcher, and Owlcat is buggy BG clone in a middling system somewhat saved by a TB mod. All those companies get shit on and also have fanboys, but Obsidiots feel extra put upon and invent theories like>you guys get your opinions from rage baiting YouTubersShit is hilarious.
>I like BG3
All smiles here, OP.
Just finished OW1 and I can say they have a skeleton of a good game but not the meat. Too few guns, no enemy variety, shallow quests. Enough for me to give OW2 a look in the future I guess
>>3840353>don't play games on SteamWhy do you assume a bulk of people play Outer Worlds on steam? This isn't Europa Universalis or something. Most people play these types of games on console.Fact is Outer Worlds sold enough for a bigger budget sequel. Games that flop don't do that. Microsoft even shut down tons of games and studios, yet Obsidian and Outer Worlds 2 remained. It's like you people are against the idea that Obsidian and their games sell well enough to keep trucking along.Obsidian has never had a game that was a a huge mainstream success. The closest is New Vegas, but even that was more niche and more popular amongst hardcore players. Getting most of the sales slowly over time.
>>3840356>The real amusing part of shitting on Obsidian is how dedicated and angry their fanboys are, they believe the company can do no wrong? The haters are the only passionate ones here. They are downright zealous. They scream about games they don't even play and screech about trannies and stuff until their faces turn blue. Even on this board there is no group of haters more passionate. We downright have a thread hating on Obsidian and Avowed over bread physics.
>>3840391
>>3840391>? The haters are the only passionate ones here. They are downright zealous. They scream about games they don't even play and screech about trannies and stuff until their faces turn blue. Even on this board there is no group of haters more passionate.Posted without any passion or angst about "haters" and his poor lil' dev. Do you cry about Bethesda getting shit on constantly? You seem underage.
>>3840404Why are you deflecting and pretending that Obsidian doesn't have passionate haters? Especially on this board? Even more so by using logical fallacies and personal attacks while trying to come across as mature in your deflection.
>>3840406Oh god, it's this type of poster.Obsidian gets no more "hate" than any other developer. Why are you crying about it? The only thing I can think is that you're immature or a pussy. You don't see Bethtards throwing a fit and claiming that Youtubers are turning people against them.
>>3840415>more deflection and most of the post are baseless insults>zero mental awareness>zero reading comprehensionYes you're clearly the level-headed and mature person you think you are. Nevermind, I shouldn't have expected rationality from how you initially responded, even after giving you the benefit of the doubt.
>>3840420C'mon, I know you're just shitposting and you don't even care. You need an enemy and I'm not playing correctly, right?God forbid you go outside your talking points.>mental awarenesslol, yes, awareness is mental, being aware is a quality of the mind.Well, I don't want to bully a kid with bad English, so I'm outtie.
>>3840077You should hope that this does kill Obsidian actually, they are a husk of what they were.
>>3840432I'm perfectly fine with Obsidians output and I'd rather have more RPGs than less.
>>3840392The same people begging for bread physics will be hating on Creation Engine in the next thread
>>3840432>they are a husk of what they were.Ah, you're one of those retards.
>>3840063I can't believe they are making a second one, considering the first one was a flop and it just reitared the common notions not even exploring things in-depth
>>3840491See:>>3840320Cope.
>>3840495>salesfagI dont care, sales are normalfag metrics, because most of the normalfags don't even finish games, when you look at metrics like Steam achievements.
>>3840497words actually have meaning, retard.
>>3840415you are obviously wrongt. nta
>>3840063>buy our way to victory!I clicked a random point in the "gameplay" trailer and I immediately got "the one joke"coming from a product funded by a billion dollar conglomerate or whatever this is, this shit isn't just forced. it feels like counter-programming. it's at least controlled opposition
>more Rick and Morty>quirky chungus corporate ad jingles>CAPITALISM BAD, please pay us 70 bucks for our AA game or Billford Hates castrates us>diversity is our strength >don't you just love eating literal pimples on pigs rather than their meat?>society so dumb it cannot figure out sustainable fishing or agriculture >
>>3841030>makes fun of something>completely misses the actual jokes that makes fun of people like himlike pottery, i bet you thought starship troopers wasn't satire either until someone told you
>>3841036I don't give a toss about sneedchuck trooperseveryone being retarded in outer worlds is not a good plot, it's just borderlands all over again
>>3841042the point is that you're making fun of something that you don't understand and the very thing it makes fun of is people not understanding it
>>3841030this is a AAA game.
>>3841036Starship Troopers is a poor example, because the director accidentally nailed it and wrapped around the ends of the scale and made a great adaptation in spirit, if not textual fidelity. That they cling to this trope is a pithy illustration of the fact that while right-wingers can understand what leftists think and why, leftists cannot understand what right-wingers think and why.>t. read the book
>>3841135>because the director accidentally nailed itNo, his entire schtick is to satirize american movies and america itself. Satire is what he does. Robocop, Starship Troopers, Total Recall and even Showgirls are all satire. Dumb people think Starship Troopers is either propaganda or a serious action movie.
>>3841136Yes, anon, hence the "accidentally" in "accidentally nailed it". Maybe if he'd read the book he would've been better able to satirize it.
