I'm playing this game and I really enjoy it. Let's discuss it. What is your favourite act and who is your favourite party member?

>What is your favourite act
Probably act 2, the most polished and the most freedom. Act 1 would be second place.
>and who is your favourite party member?
Custom party of three generics, and letting every "origin character" get fucked and die.
In act 2, when dealing with the Source Masters, remember that you always have a choice, and refusing their teachings and declining to make a deal is a valid choice, if you think that's the moral thing to do. You can still finish the game.

Yeah, I did this with Ryker. I’m trying to find where the others sorcerers are, but one requires me to do that awful oil voidling fight.

There are still based people on this board.

Only Act 2 is good, which good thing for the game that it takes up probably 60% of the game. Act 1 is pretty boring just because its the thing you will most often seen when playing or replaying the game, but act 3 is dogshit and loses all momentum. Couldn't even bring myself to finish it.

Neither could Larian. Many such cases.

Is it better or worse than BG3’s later acts? I heard that one was really rough too.

They did eventually go back and fix up, to moderate success, dos2’s unfinished act 4. With bg3 they just took their giant pile of money and ran, they never significantly improved acts 2 and 3, and the game is “done” now.

That's right, brother. I personally prefers human for the crit. Undead human can be alright.

I don't get the hate for act 3 in BG3. Its wildly different then everything else you see in the game. First part is a forest and the underdark, second part is a depressing hellscape, and the third is in a giant city. There's tons of shit to do in act 3. The problem is that you cap before you finish it all, so it makes it kind of pointless to do, and the ending is pretty much "right there", and you can do it whenever you want. There's not a whole lot of direction, which is probably where it fails most people. Doesnt make it bad imo, because there's a lot of RP opportunity there.

Also i think it bugs a lot of people that baldurs gate was actually split into several parts with lots of extra content, but they ended up cutting like half of it for some reason... Which sucks, but again, there's already a shit ton left to do, and there's not much point to do it.

Excellent RPG, top 10 material.

>Favorite act
Objectively speaking Act 1 has the best level design, so it would be the choice but I loved Act 2 more hence its my favorite because it has better encounter design and the combat opens up to more skills to use making it more fun.

>Favorite party member
Fane.
I played as The Red Prince and it was cool, Fane is probably the best character in the game, the game doesn't have that many good companions, this is one of the way Larian improved upon in their next game.

Should've asked more about like favorite encounter or favorite quest instead of companion though.

Its all personal tastes, but for me BG3 is better in all its acts. While Act 3 of BG3 is the weakest out of the 3, its still one of the best acts in RPG history and most especially long RPGs since we know now most of them fall off hard into the late game.

Act 2 and Act 1 are interchangeable to me, 2 has the best pacing, combat and moments, but 1 has the best level design and reactivity best in the genre. While all Act 3 has is a giant city sandbox with great epic boss fights.

Divinity is more messy, Act 1 is level design based and is reactivie, nowhere near act 1 of bg3 though, and Act 2 is a continiuation of that but its a big map with more focus on exploration.
Act 3 is kinda linear and serves as a story segment, its like Act 2 of BG3 but worse in every single way.
Act 4 resembles act 3 of BG3, except Arx is smaller and way more restrictive, the bosses are cool but nowhere near the epicness of act 3 like raphael, astor or gortash.

In a way DOS2 is the underdeveloped brother of BG3, but because BG3 is goat tier its still an excellent RPG, it has fantastic gameplay and map design and it looks and sounds well, if Larian stopped at DOS2 it wouldve stayed as one of the decades best.

I couldn't get into BG3 but love DOS2. I'm not sure why, I think Fort Joy was a better first act with a more pressing situation for your character. I also like the combat better.

>Also i think it bugs a lot of people that baldurs gate was actually split into several parts with lots of extra content, but they ended up cutting like half of it for some reason...
This is a big part of it, for me. They clearly decided they needed to rush an unfinished game to market (supposedly to beat Starfield, which seems insane to me, since tons of people were hyped for bg3 and no one gave a shit about Starfield. And it wasn’t publisher pressure since Larian was self publishing and sat on a giant pile of EA money) and so they cut a significant amount of act 3 (the upper city) and then took what finished content they had and crammed into various spots in the lower city, like the house of forgetfulness or whatever it was called, and taking Cazadors formerly freestanding mansion (pictured in prerelease screenshots) and shoving it up on top of a wall up a ladder from a guardhouse, like fucking what?
Anyway, shit happens, tons of classic RPGs had cut content, devs run out of money and time and work with what they got, it’s just how it goes. But Larian couldn’t just tell the truth about, they had to lie and say ummm akshually sweetie there was no cut content, and if there was cut content it was out of respect for you, our players. Like motherfucker just tell the truth, don’t blatantly lie to everyone’s faces like that, it’s insulting. Belgian twatwaffles.

Also it was hilariously unoptimized, you could go from a smooth 144 fps in act 1, and at launch, act 3 would run at 60 and chug down to 30 just like bg1 lol

Like i said, I don't think it really matters much in the greater scheme of things. If the level cap was higher, then cool, but d&d has always been weird about power scaling and there's only so much you can do before you get another ToB and have to fight a bunch of sponges, and the extra content would be cool at that point... it's just not needed. So as much as I would like to explore more shit, even if there was story behind it all, it would still be a waste of time that most people would probably skip anyway, like they already do with half of act 3's content. All you get out of it is some comfy RP and things to look at.
>>
>>3845574
It's a matter of principle. The fact that the level cap is arbitrarily set too low for the type of shit you end up fighting and for how long the game is, is a separate matter, though also true.
