They're called Fal'cie because they're Fal'se
>>3844948dude, the Church being evil is a very common thing in Japanese games
>>3845133What about Dragon Quest
>>3844948Who's the top one?
>>3845232DMC4 villain (not an rpg). He is a pope like head of an island cult worshipping a good demon who'd probably think they are a cult if he knew about them. A typical "muh power, what is love" kind of guy, just old. Nothing to write home about, but had a pretty good soundtrack in his last bossfight, said things like"THE SAVIOR IS COMING" during it and had a decency to stay dead when killed unlike Vergil, who, I kid you not, suffered deadly injuries in his fight with his brother in 1 game and then clinged to life FOR 25 YEARS before consuming a city's worth of human lives (and more) to get better in a game that came like 20 years after the one where he suffered his deadly injuries. NIGGER could just not die if he wanted, but noooo he wanted to kill people. And the protags were like "oh. it's okay". The worst thing is that probably the canon ending to it too even though the game has a better ending if the player manages to defeat the boss of the intro mission.
>>3844948The fact that fiction work worldwide is being shaped by western complexes, and that edgy regurgitated slop passes as defiant critique?
>>3845246They don't really go "oh, it's okay," though. They absolutely condemn his actions, but recognize that Vergil's abilities were needed to clean up the consequences of his actions. The game ended with him and Dante going to hell to hold back the demonic hordes and close the rift that would have allowed them to continue invading. Dante himself has always had questionable morality because he cares more about his personal business than the general good of the world as a whole. He'd sometimes perform helpful acts with larger good consequences, but that was more as a side effect of his personal affability than it was altruism. In 3, the earliest chronological title, he didn't really give two shits about the city coming to ruins as a result of Vergil's actions either. He just wanted to carve a path to Vergil and settle their personal score. His demon hunting business is also largely fueled by his personal vendetta against demons, which is half of why he ends up working pro bono so often. Nero beat the stuffing out of his dad for what he did, but he still ultimately didn't want him to die if he didn't have to. Nero is often too kind for his own good, but that doesn't mean Vergil was beyond reproach. Ultimately, V's existence and actions display remorse in Vergil's choice to summon the Qliphoth. Once they became whole again, he doesn't do any further evil and agrees to play his part in cleaning up the mess he made after getting his runback against Dante.
