Hey, do you have any opinions or recommendations for RPGs I should play? I've never been interested in this genre of games, and now I want to learn more. The only RPGs I've played were Pokémon Fire Red and Zelda Mini Camp (both GBA), and I've never played Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. So I'm kind of lost. I don't know which game to pick up to get to know, for example, Final Fantasy, which has 15 games... Damn, should I start with the most popular or the first in order of release? Tell me what you would recommend for me to start playing RPGs!
>>3846494Try Final Fantasy V or VII. FFV is a good introduction to older classic JRPGs while FFVII is more a starting point for the later style of JRPGs that lean more on storytelling. They're all unrelated to each other so you can play that series in whatever order you want. Dragon Quest is a very purist JRPG series with few bells and whistles, but try one of the later games first because the older ones are still NES era JRPGs and they can be very obtuse and hard to get into.

If you like anime and story-focused games Final Fantasy 7 (not the remake) or Chrono Trigger are a good starting point. If you want something more modern I guess you can give that new French game Expedition 33 a try (haven't played it but people seem to like it). If you want something with more complex mechanics that offers a lot of freedom, the original Fallout game is a good starting point. Underrail is a more refined game but it might overwhelm you. If you want something that offers that RPG freedom but also is not mechanically complex you can just play the Bethesda games (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim) or try New Vegas.
