arcanum is the only crpg i know were literally every plot major character & faction is retarded (spoilers)
>Panari fail their ONE JOB and become a cult lead by their enemies
>dark elves literally just believe Kerghan with no evidence hes Arronax, and he realised being a nazi was cringe decades ago
>Nasrudin does literally nothing but wollow in self pity
>elves do nothing and the queen is a lazy schizo
>dwarves & Loghaire are self explanitory
>Molochean Hand does no review of their employers and end up serving the literal same guy they rebelled against in the past
is this peak writing or also retarded?

>arcanum is the only crpg i know were literally every plot major character & faction is retarded
I'm having a hard time thinking of a non-retarded CRPG faction.
>>
>>3847858
anarchs, ventrue/normal camerilla, the temple, brotherhood of steel [f1], mexican army [f:sonora] Kalfu/pirates [Brigand:Panama]
>>
>>3847866
All those, that I've played, are retards.
RPG factions are always retarded.
>>
>>3847855
It's supposed to show that the world of Arcanum is pretty messed up, and needs somebody to get it back on track. Dernholm needs to be restored, so that it and Caladon can check Tarant's expansionist ambitions. The dwarves need to stop being so gullible, and the dark elves need to stop following every new fuckhead who promises them "deff to tecknolojy, fo reals!"
>>
>>3847873
If everything smells like shit to you, maybe you should check your pants first.

",that I've played," is acknowledging that I haven't played them all, anon.

forgot to mention Gates, Cumbrian monarchy and black cauldran but they are all also self explanatory

point made and taken. sorry for misreading comrade.
>>3847880
idk man. the dark elves need the vedigoth treatment, except for Z'an, that one quest npc and maybe arronax if he counts, the rest are pure evil and have been Suprem-amaxxing for literal centuries.
>>
>>3847866
>brotherhood of steel [f1]
>convince Brotherhood of Steel of the danger posed by the Supermutant army and ensure their backup for destroying the factory/vat labs
>they send 2-3 power armored dudes to help you that may kill 3 super mutants guarding the entrance if you let them
>fuckers WON'T get inside the complex proper that has dozens more of supermutants, laser doors AND one of the final bosses of the game
Those fuckers were such a disappointment

>arcanum is the only crpg i know were literally every plot major character & faction is retarded
BG3.
>>
I like how Arcanum feels less steampunk and more Victorian fantasy. Sure, there's some steampunk elements, but they don't feel overwhelming.
>>
>>3847993
how steampunk is best used. 100% steampunk settings fucking blow because they are usually written by pop culture slorping americans who never do anything novel
>>
>>3847993
>>3848440
Arcanum is literally the only proper usage of the term "steampunk" within gaming, in that the setting is employed to discuss socio-political themes.
>>
>>3847945
Still not F76-tier disappointment, where they literally funded FEV production. Even damn raiders have more common sense.
>>
The world of arcanum is so shit and hopeless that you can kind of understand wanting universal genocide.
>>
>>3849709
>the setting is employed to discuss socio-political themes on the level of a teenager
ftfy
>>
>>3849713
Spoiler: the real world is much, much, much worse.
>>
>>3849738
So you think Phrenology, Breeding Camps and Racial Conspiracy are topics teenagers are famiiliar with? You must've had one interesting teenagehood.
>>
>>3849977
Not here for the argument just remembering someone complaining that people can't go discussing Arcanum without mentioning the gnomes' lore from a quest that doesn't even allow the player to directly confront those jews even if he can visit the place they supposedly live in and can start plenty of other world-changing events. The OP almost did avoid it but got to them in the first reply post.
>>
>>3849977
I think "Punk" is intrinsically sociopolitically vapid and concerned with surface level freakshows, yes, regardless of flavor. Thanks for confirming it.
>>
>>3849709
What's steampunk for you? All in all I do see your statement as true, as gaming suffers from shit stories and even worse narrative elements.
>>
>>3847857
Literally the reason why I don't replay it. It's to tedious.

forgot to mention kerghan having his thousand year philosophy dismantled in a 10 minute conversation
>>
>>3847858
If factions were competent then they wouldn't need the player to do everything for them.
It just a game problem.
>>
how come guns suck
>>
>>3852742
They don't, they're fine. It's just that other options are generally more combat effective. A spell or an axe will do a better job than a gun. But Arcanum isn't a game where you have to fuss about optimising numbers and stats. You can manage with anything.

This is just most WRPGs before Oblivion killed all "open" competition

any reason to not go pyro bow + molotovs build?
>>
>>3853061
ye
>>
>>3850393
Nta but steampunk, when it was conceived, was supposed to be about how the industrial revolution both made people's lives better and really REALLY shitty depending on where in the social ladder you were. But most people who use it just want hats with cogs on it.
>>
>>3852742
Guns don't suck, they can actually be really good, but it's just a fact that Harm is blatantly OP for the first like 40 hours of the game.
>>
I was disappointed when I found out this game was more analogous to Victorian England than Post-Civil War USA
>>
>>3847857
I played a gun build with zero foreknowledge about the game and had fun. It wasn't until much later that I was informed that I was playing the game "wrong".

>dude, class
>dude, tech
The Enlightenment was a mistake.
>>
>>3853467
Yes it comes across as quaint when you don't live in a country with an actual stratified class system and no matter how much wealth you gain in life, you will forever be looked down upon by some because of the way you talk and the street you were born on. David Beckham will be working-class until the day he dies.

brits are weird.
The discourse around that Scottish girl a few months back makes it apparent that British people still, in essence, have a fully functional caste system and that apparently a lot of the hatred of the lower classes from the political ruling class comes from this
>>
>>3853610
Obsession with class is p. gay because all it does is engender endless resentment in your breast. All it does is weaken your Dao heart and make you champion causes that aren't in your interests, seeing bedbellows in rejects and enemies in snobs.
Just walk away.
>>
>>3853638
>seeing bedbellows in rejects and enemies in snobs.
No it does the opposite, it fosters the mindset that people born into a class must really be better than you and makes you look down on those lower on the ladder by default
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3-f4q13hvU
>>
>>3853867

born into an upper class, I meant

All I can think of is this

You can tell by her accent that she isn't working-class
>>
>>3853867
Look how resentful Caine is here, how heated he gets. Pathetic.
People do this intrinsically in every country of the world, even apart from a class focused society, they constantly ladder each other within the first few seconds of a conversation and worship celebrities.

I actually appreciate cultures that don't value only money or appearance.
>>
>>3853873
>Look how resentful Caine is here, how heated he gets.
Because his own mother was telling him she's less of a person because of how she talks, why wouldn't a person be upset at that? Are you just completely disconnected from the society you live in, do you ever fucking go outside?
>>
>>3853959
That's not at all what his mother was saying, he's just saying she met someone of status, the same way someone probably brags about meeting Michael Caine, or why he posted in the first place.
Oh no, someone respects someone for spurious reasons! The horror!
Do you go outside?
Grow up.
>>
were the models/sprites in arcanum done by the same guy who did the fallout 2 sprites?
they both have that kind of shiny look
>>
why play this over the infinity engine rpgs?
>>

why play an rpg?
