I'm hard pressed to name a comfier RPG. There's a huge lack of games that have innovative battle systems like this one. We need more games where stuff is solved with mini-games, such as gem matching or playing cards.
>>
>>3852225
Wouldn't there be too much rng aspects here and less player agency or is there a way to manipulate what shows up on the grid?(I've never played Puzzlequest)
>>
>>3852225
Good post. This game was really good. It certainly had its share of RNG bullshit, but it was pretty good overall. Sadly, I think the expansion made the game worse, so that was an L.
>>
>>3852234
You can anticipate what might show up by controlling what you're removing. If you match a row then the gems that fall into the field will be in a row, ect. The key is to focus on utilizing your abilities, and to see a few moves ahead, and to not allow a sequence to be set up in favor of the enemy. If your turn ends when you match three, make sure you don't cause a match of four to align when it's your opponent's turn next. There's a bit of strategy in making suboptimal moves because you realize otherwise you would be giving your opponent an optimal one. I recommend trying it out, the remaster just came out a few days ago and compiles every single expansion into the game, and implements controller support for PC. It's very addictive.
>>
It's probably my favorite DS game if I had to pick one. Bought it on PC and Switch even. It's a shame they never made any sequels or spinoffs.

I don't care, it SUCKS. I can't believe this is how Warlords and Warlords Battlecry ended up. From the ultimate custom turn based fantasy strategy game to the best RTS/RPG hybrid by far, to a shitty mobile Bejeweled game. What the fuck. Shitty spinoff fuck.
>>
What's the new version adding compared to the one they delisted?

>>3852234
>>3852244
I'll add that player/enemy elemental stats increase chances for extra turns and creating wildcard gems when matching certain colors. There are a lot of different classes and builds, but typically you're speccing into specific colors based off of your skill set and equipment.
>>
>>3852299
It added more quests, more classes, changed the graphics and the shapes of the gems, and there's controller support on PC. It's great trust me
>>
>innovative battle system
>just shoves a wholeass non-RPG in there to waste your time and make your character less significant
Every time, same with those shitty rhythm games jarpiggers love so much.
>>
>>3852328
class and level is important, you put points into stats, and you unlock skills to assign
>>
>>3852320
But it removed classes/portraits according to the Steam reviews, those weren't exactly glowing from what I've seen.
>>
>>3852328
>Rtwpkek filtered by a puzzle hybrid
>Can't even read
Bet you'll squirt your anal liquid at based underrail next.
>>

God I remember this. I had the DS version and I played so fucking much of it that I can still play the entire soundtrack in my head.

It was unbalanced as fuck, the AI was a cheating bastard, and you utterly broke the game over your knee by using the spell/armor crafting system. Deathbringer spam for days.
Unless the enemy had % resist red elemental spells, in which case you might not instantly win.

Luv that game. Shame the only puzzle quest to come out in the last decade is a fucking gacha. Gems of War minus the gacha elements I would legitimately pay for, but fuck gacha milking me for ever, I ain't into that.
>>
>>3852225
>that have innovative battle systems like this one
It is a puzzle game.
>We need more games where stuff is solved with mini-games, such as gem matching or playing cards.
No we don't.
>>
>>3852378
I do not believe it's missing classes, it has all the expansions and new additional content. If it's missing portraits I can't imagine that will impact the experience much.
>>
>>3852378
I've been looking at reviews, and almost all of the negative ones I'm seeing are just mentioning the "cheating" AI. Which has always been the primary critique of the OG.
That said- I love the game, but I'm not buying ANOTHER remaster even if they added a class which probably sucks.
>>
>>3852680
Yeah it's pretty much a full collection of all the expansions and the content added in the console vers. So if you had the expansions its not too much a hard skip.
>>
It's a fantastic game but the sucky ass resistance system will drive you mad once you reach the end game. I read somewhere some dev said it was a last minute decision and it fucking shows.
>>
>>3852244
The fucking remaster could not even add all the portraits
>>
>>3852234
>Wouldn't there be too much rng aspects here
You're playing a RPG, RNG is often expected.

Its a fun twist on a puzzle game. It enhances the bejeweled side of the game because you have more intention with what you want to move if there is more than a single move to be performed that turn. Will you go for the blue mana you need but possibly putting the skulls within reach of one another? Will you use a skill to transform red gems into skulls? Need mana in a group and deal damage but can't match it? Then use one of your classes skills. This is something Bejeweled needed in order to not always devolve into trying to get the maximum colors matched every time, especially since turns are handed off between the player and opponent playing on the same board.
>>
>>3852790
So, I don't give a damn about character portraits.
>>
I fucking love Puzzle Quest. I wish they had to expanded version on Steam, it's only on Switch playstore. It's so good, they added a lot of stuff.
>>
>>3852320
Is this the expanded Puzzle Quest that only released on console and was never on Switch? The console version had a ton more quests and stuff. If this is that I'm getting it.

>>3852970
Was never on Steam I mean.

This is a newer, further remastered version of that. It's confusing af honestly, since PQ has seen so many different versions which include different expansions, and they've done a poor job of explaining what is actually new content. It doesn't help that they've delisted the previous versions so you can't easily compare.

This article is the only useful piece of info I've found:
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/puzzle-quest-remaster-is-being-delisted-because-its-being-remastered-again/1100-6534525/

>>3852942
Shill harder. They AI slopped the portraits available, and even then couldn't be assed to do more than a dozen. Luckily there are mods.
>>
>>3853111
I got it, it's good so far. I loved PQ. The only thing is I will only play on easy or maybe normal, never hard. On hard the AI will always get crazy cascade combos and if you don't put on hints you will usually have to grind like crazy to win, which is not fun at all.

It's still a very comfy game but for anybody looking to try it, be wary of hard mode. AI gets the best moves every time so if you miss a 4 or 5 match they will destroy you. Even if you get a 4 or 5 match, the AI will usually know which moves to do that will result in the board lining them up for multiple combos in a single turn on hard mode. It becomes virtually impossible to beat them consistently on the high difficulty so it's best to avoid it.
>>
>>3853113
>and if you don't put on hints
not sure why you would handicap yourself in a video game, it's supposed to be casual fun
>>
>>3852970
This is the Switch version with more content and it's on PC yeah
>>
>>3852298
Sir, /vst/ is the other way

There is a neat game on Switch shop called Ironcast that is a roguelike mecha version of Puzzle Quest. It's interesting. I would love to see it come to Steam.

Yes. It's not as good as Puzzle Quest but it was still very fun.

Turns out it was in my library of Epic freebies. Forgot about this one - might give it a whirl soon!

I'm playing with the new Swordmaster class and it's OK. Focuses on Air and Battle skills, and really just has one useful skill that's OP. I'll see how long that carries me, but I'm already getting walled by Dugog.

All of my muscle memory is from the DS version, but in this one you can pull 5 in a row on diagonals. That's taking a lot of getting used to, but obviously leads to easier cascades and happy accidents.
>>
>>3856127
Oh I didn't even pay attention to see that they added a new class. I went for elementalist.
>>
>>3856127
Wait you can get 5 in a row on diagonal matches? What about 4?

You should check this out. One of the most underrated puzzle RPGs ever.
>>
>>3856356
Damn, that was a good game too.
>>
>>3856329
what little promo material there is doesn't talk about it at all, which I found frustrating before buying.

>>3856330
diagonals of 3 across and 3 down. Old PQ counted those as 2x 3's, but now that's a 5
>>
>>3856356
It was pretty comfy, especially those puzzle challenges. But the arabian nights girl's section was ridiculously boring, and iirc there was a necro artifact that let you set your hp to 1 for some ridiculous benefit that 9 times out of 10 pretty much guaranteed your victory before the game even began.
>>
>>3856330
if you connect the corner of a row and column, which means there's at least two horizontal gems and two vertical gems, the remaster says that alongside the gem you put that's a total of five gems matched
>>
>>3856750
>>3856400
>>3856330
Also works for "T" shape match.
>>
>>3856356
i have this cart. I thought i was getting a homm game on my ds lol
