Is it possible to play the EA build? I recall playing that version about a week before release and it was so different, now the idea of playing that version again seems novel.
>>3853335I played the EA right when it came out in 2020 and really liked it, then I shelved it so I wouldn’t get burned out on replaying act 1 for years. Played it at release and went “what the FUCK happened?” I can’t think of a recent game with such a mixture of the potential for greatness, and such complete shit and stupid decisions. What a waste.
>>3853338What went wrong on release compared to the EA?
>>3853338>I can’t think of a recent game with such a mixture of the potential for greatness, and such complete shit and stupid decisionsNew World
>>3853528New world was doomed from the start.Although the first wars in release were the most fun I ever had in an MMO.But it was obvious what was gonna happen, one faction dominating, and people not being able to join wars unless they were "in the club".The bugs were what drove me away, people freezing the server to win wars etc.But desu it the design was fundamentally flawed and eventually I would have left anyway.
>>3853474>What went wrong on release compared to the EA?Subjectively or objectively?Subjectively, what it felt like:>default human changed to a negress barbarian with 8 INT>non-binary feminine penises>vitiligo sliders>the virgin "You need a guardian." vs the chad "Who do you dream of at night?">your character now makes quippy capeshit dialogue like "I've got a lot on my mind... or, in it, I suppose.">tutorial nautiloid revamped to be like 1/3rd as long>origin chars were originally all edgy cunts, devs claimed that they had to front load the evil chars because it was the only way to get players to playtest them, and that later on there would totally be a full roster of friendly good characters, promise>akshually we already got the full cast of origin characters, and instead to cover their asses the devs just hastily rewrote all of them to be bland and focus group approved, rather than sticking to their original vision>realm has been BLACKED, half of humans are from Chult, black elves, black dwarves, black halflings>game actively encourages you to tadpolemaxx with zero penalties or drawbacks, doesn't even acknowledge or notice if you abstain>act 1 polished from 3+ years of EA feedback>act 2 rough around edges but playable>act 3 runs like total shit and they blatantly cut almost half of it, (upper city) shoving finished content in random corners of the lower city>devs claim there's 17,000+ ending permutations, but at launch there was like 3 or 4 topsObjectively? They turned their plot and characters into mush through waves of rewrites and different writers undoing each others' work, and it's pretty clear that someone, be it Tencent, or WotC, or Hasbro, put their thumbs on the scale and insisted they add a ton of woke garbage. No one outside of Larian knows what really happened, we just know that they lied about a bunch of shit, took their giant pile of cash, never finished the game, and they've dropped it and it's "done".
>>3853848I was planning to give this game a try once work calmed down but sounds like I should look for something else.
>>3853997It’s an extremely mixed bag, and your enjoyment of it hinges heavily on your personal tolerance of woke garbage. It has fun tactical combat, I like that it’s turn based, if you enjoy environmental interactions and creativity there’s a good amount of options, the production values are top notch, excellent graphics, animations, decent music. As to the downsides, the story and writing are atrocious, the characters are all unlikeable scum, every reference to the original BG games is insulting at best, the 5th edition ruleset is the worst version of DnD yet (despite Larians copious homebrew), the game is a downgrade from their previous game on the same engine (dos2) in terms of simple things like tooltips and inventory management, and the game was blatantly released in an unfinished state, with the devs gaslighting instead of being honest and saying “yea we ran out of time and money and had to rush the game to market, sorry”.Overall it’s an extremely mixed bag. It had the potential to be great, but I was sorely disappointed by it. Id say wait for a half off sale, at a minimum.
>>3853848Hell, I played the very last EA build (bought on GoG about 2-3 weeks before 1.0) and even there the nautiloid was a fuckton longer. I started it back up on 1.0, wondered where the hell the segment where you fight your way up the top deck went, and refunded after half the characters felt off even from what little I played before.Glad to know my instincts were right and it wasn't just an autistic fit.>>3853997You might enjoy Divinity: Original Sin 1 or 2- BG3 is basically just those games but with DnD 5e acting as shackles. You can even see where some of the fucked up shit they wanted to do in BG3 came from->elves are all maneaters who also absorb memories from people meat.>The origin wizard is from a time before the gods existed (and is also an undead who gets attacked on sight if he doesn't cover himself.) >The human origin ranger personally helped napalm the elf homeland. >The entire party starts out in a concentration camp for wizards who have the Wrong type of magic.
>>3854041>>3853848>>3853335Interesting to see people talking so honestly about BG3 now.Back in 2023 or even early 2024 you couldn't say a single word that was critical of the game without being accused of being a "seething chud", even here on 4chan.
>>3854050I've seen more shit-flinging BG3 arguments on this board that I can remember. It's a difficult game to be objective about. Very polarizing. I've seen a lot of culture warrior idiots talk shit about it who clearly never played it, and I've seen legions of delusional and dishonest fanboys who will brook no criticism of it, no matter how nuanced or reasonable. Of the pro-BG3 side, I can only remember maybe two or three anons who were reasonable and logical, we just simply had a difference of opinion about the game.
>>3854050The whole woke cult was at its peak a few years ago and you couldn't speak against anything involving the zeitgeist without a mob trying to cancel your life. Thankfully the blatant "anti-facist" facism of woke culture seems to finally be falling out of favor as the inevitable fatigue has been setting in. It's too bad that it has already cost so many otherwise decent people their careers and companies their identities.
>>3853335Was different alright, better, too. Maybe steam or gog, else pirate it.
>>3853848>Who do you dream of at nightI'm convinced that the emperor was a legendary mindflayer and his ultimate plan was to free the illithid. Plenty of traces in the game suggest this, omeluum being the best indicator, but the mural at the beginning does so, too. It would fit the theme of dominion, as the emperor is to tav, what the brain to the emperor.
>>3853848>act 1 polishedPre mountain is likely the best map in any crpg...>act 2Felt like a lnother game altogether. Here I knew that the game will turn to shit.
>>3853997Listen to the other anon, fun game, plenty of repetitive talk you can ignore. Basically everything after you beat the goblins is rather boring. I play it as dungeon crawler and skip all dialogue, have 4 custom characters and mod the game heavily.
>>3853848getting to act 3 and realizing how blatantly unfinished it is and how much content was cut killed my will to even do the last few quests and finish the game
>>3855570I don't get it. There's no incentive to play act 3. Maps are extremely large and there's one filler fight after the other. Everything is super strong and tanky in baldurs gate. The bhaal cultists are ridiculously strong and could easily beat the brain themselves.
>>3853997If it seemed interesting to you then it's probably worth trying to see what you make of it, you'll realise pretty quickly whether its something you'll stick with it or not. It's not a terrible game but it's shortcomings keep it from being great
