Why does Phantasy Star Online 2 have such a well written story?
>>
I wouldn't say the writing is THAT great, but EP1-3 and 6 are a very satisfying story. More than anything though the writing leaves you wondering how much better it could've been if the game hadn't been constantly mismanaged by SEGAY and had an actual budget.

There was nothing satisfying about EP6 aside from "at least this shitshow is finally over". Not with its antagonist having no actual personality and EP4-5 trash still refusing to fuck off.
I miss the mystery feel of the first two eps.

I liked 6, for what they had to work with it was good to me at least. 4 and 5 really derailed everything and by the time 6 was being made they also had a shoestring budget and covid restrictions. It was a cheesy but nice ending, could've been a lot better but it is what it is, the whole game is just a massive case of missed and wasted potential.

What a faggoty thread format.

I really like the mystery of Episode 1 and 2. The fact that every online says the story is boring makes me think no one even read it.

The modern format of it too just being in menus is kind of cute.

What the heck

You can sort of get the answer by looking at the state of fantasy stories. Melodrama didn't used to plainly mean exaggerated emotion, rather it referred to a story where good triumphs over evil, and is categorically contrasted against realism. It used to be the stomping ground of fantasy, where abstract ideas are given form, but fantasy these days has transformed into a shitty, colorful escapist version of realism.

It can't be understated how difficult it is to tell a sincere story of good and evil, let alone one with a strong human element permeating throughout. It takes genuine moral conviction that modernity is extremely toxic to. Simply put, it's a case of synthesis and eucatastrophe made in an age where both are virtually nonexistent. PSO2 was such an incredible game before Sega ruined it, I can't wait for them to pull the plug so private server groups can fix it.

What a ponderous system.

Anime was pretty decent. The second one. The one that actually adapting the plot of the game. Episode Oracle. Not that other one that was actually about people playing the game. That was dumb.
