Are there any MMORPGs worth playing in 2025? I enjoyed classic WoW quite a bit, but it's infested as shit with bots and community took a nosedive too.
>>
In the history of this our Planet Earth, there has never been an MMORPG worth playing.

Get thee hence.
>>
14 was a god game when it was going through a population boom. Try 14 next time it picks up.

City of Heroes is a casual mmo that scratches the itch for me when the itch arises. The combat is not as reactive as wow but playing a flying blaster is alot of fun and the community is always there

Yes, but the question is really more like "for how long?"
The EQ1Emu server THJ was an Aporia project so it was doomed from the beginning, and the lawsuit fucking stomped his stupid testicles so hard he's now begging for donations to fund the legal costs in the aftermath of the decision against them (it was insanely BLATANTLY illegal what they were doing, in contrast to other EQEmu servers like Quarm or whatever). But. The primary dev on the server, Cata, had done really whizzy shit with some real potential. So it was an interesting moment for the year or so that the server was open. Long term? Well. No. Aporia was involved. The game was fucking broken, janky and imbalanced as fuck because Aporia has no fucking idea what he's doing. Weeks? Sure, you could slam into the level cap with maxed out AAs and clear Time in a month or so.
If Warmane is still up, classic WoW / BC / Wrath era servers there are good fun. Long term? Well. They're era locked of course, but if you like that era it's probably gonna be fine until you're bored. Which might take a few months.

What have we learned? That if what you actually want from an MMO is some kind of experience that will keep you coming back most days for a year or more at a time... you probably won't be able to find anything like that. Because nothing in life is really like that. The desire for novelty is something that a game can't address yet because the technology to generate that reactive novelty just does not exist. Generative AI can probably address that need eventually, but no studios have even begun a project to attempt such a thing yet (it'd look like Daggerfall, really, but with NPCs capable of extended roleplay and sandbox elements that involve wild shit like you'd see in an erotic princess trainer or something).

You don't actually have to post entry level contrarian opinion you know, you can just stay quiet and not diminish the board qualify.
>>
>>3853967
Nah, I'll do what I want, when I want, same as you.
>muh board quality
If that has any value, it doesn't, why not post it on a board where people like MMOs?
>>
>>3853904
And there will never be.

An MMO requires you to devote all your time to it, or you will get out-competed.
So the kings of MMOs are life's rejects.
The rest are just trying to catch up.

Such a game can never be good, because the audience it caters to is not good.

Good things in this life cater to a cultured, selective audience (like RPGs).
And cultured people have lives, or at least multiple interests.
Or at least they want to experience more than a single game.

An MMO can never be good because it requires you to play the same game over and over and over and do repetitive shit, while at the same time you could have been experiencing multiple games.

Competed? MMOs aren't a competition. They're PvE games. All competition is purely arbitrary user-driven bullshit. You can still enjoy Super Mario World without competing to beat the world speedrun record.

>MMOs aren't a competition. They're PvE games. All competition is purely arbitrary user-driven bullshit.
There is quite literally nothing arbitrary about the habits and propensities of the average MMO player, you disingenuous retard. And every multiplayer environment where time is a valuable resource is *inherently* competitive, and the only way you can argue otherwise is if you play without interacting with the entire community even once, but then why are you playing an MMO you sperg?
>>
>>3854085
>Games are only fun if I can compete at global elite level
It must be tiring being you. I had fun leveling from 1 to 40. There were millions of wow players that did more damage/had more gear than me. I still had fun playing PvE together. What now?
>>
Swtor, lotro, guild wars 1 and osrs are solid single player experiences. Less so osrs because it isn't story focused and they're slow as fuck to bring out new quests.
>>
How is Elder Scrolls Online? I heard it's chill
>>
>>3854235
>I heard it's chill
It is but it's inventory management simulator without a subscription. Very nice solo experience though, just feels like a janky TES game
>>
>>3854020
You leave out the obvious point of MULTIPLAYER. Yes, a lot of autistic schizoids love to grind but that was never drew me in. I've met so many people through these kinds of games and that's all I ever really cared about. I play an MMO to this day entirely for that reason. There's a dozen people I met in games who I think about every so often and while I'll never talk to them like my IRL friends they left a good impact on me and I like to think visa versa.

No, MMOs have been killed off by wikis and youtube guides. The classic MMO feel is never coming back.

try looking for the kind of experiences that predated mmos like muds(Nwn1 lobbies) , wc3 maps, or table top RPGs (maybe on open online servers)

I doubt that will ever happen, SE would rather run their cash cow into the ground through stagnation than try anything to shake up the stale formula. Sharttrail exposed just how much the success of an expac hinges on the MSQ.
>>
>>3853897
Meridian 59 on server 105. There's also Project 1999 for old Everquest, but being a new player there is pointless as no one would play with you, and you would have to grind pumas near the auction for weeks alone, which is just retarded.
>>
>>3853897
I play FF11 on a private server, FFERA, and it's pretty nice since it's incredibly horizontal like offline FF games.
>>
>>3854244
Multiplayer is just a tedious obstacle in these games. Every so often you'll want to progress a quest or something and it will hit you with a roadblock of needing a group of other people for a raid and you have to sit for hours in a group finder or spamming a chat, and then even if you run the content half the time some retard will fuck it up and the group will disband. Fuck everyone who postpones multiplayer dying a well-deserved death in MMOs.

Stop sucking blizzard cock ffs, if you love Vanilla/Classic go play Turtle WoW, its the only viable solution

OSRS is the quintessential MMORPG experience and probably has one of the most vital communities in current year. It is a dying genre though, it will be interesting to see how long runey remains alive and kicking.
>>
MMOs are almost like an outdated technology or something at this point.
The idea of an MMO was really cool in the 00s when the internet was just becoming widely adopted. These days all the magic and promises of connectivity are gone and it's just a pointless grindfest and all the other players might as well be bots.

You're mentally ill or actually retarded if you play a MMO and then bitch about having to interact with people. It has nothing to do with conforming.

Is eccentric a kind word for an unpleasant, self-centered autist

>>3855492
I ain't mad I'm disappointed. I came here for this exact reason actually. The game I play is an insufferable circle jerk everywhere else so i wanted to see what 4chan had to say. Suffice to say the entire thread on /vm/ was seething about the game being multiplayer and things being locked out to solo play with some malding about transvestites sprinkled in.

I don't know, people usually enjoy eccentrics. Provided they're not merely mentally ill or something.

ESO was fun. I played it for a couple years, from like 2018-2020. I went through it all single player, basically. Only played with two other friends for a little bit until they got bored. I enjoyed it as a single player RPG. I took it slow, absorbed the lore, and really enjoyed the Morrowind DLC. My only gripe is that it was far too easy. Everything scales exactly to your level, but if you're like me and take your time and craft a lot of gear, you'll be grossly overpowered. Still, was fun as an Elder Scrolls lore dump.

brother, stop getting your panties in a twist, this inferiority complex is abusing you into looking for bugbears.
