My friend finally found his copy of this so I could play it. No spoilers, pls, it's my first time. It's always fun playing a 20+ year old game where you don't know what happens—it's somehow an entirely different thrill from playing a new game.

Graveyard area in the NES version of AD&D Pool of Radiance

Best area in the game so far, graveyards are always cool in RPGs.
I wish I knew if my Necklace of Missile runs out or if it's okay to spam it though, considering how strong it is I suppose it breaks eventually
>>
>>3858634
It runs out, you are throwing parts of the necklace that turn into fireballs, their power relative to the part. It's RNG how many it has and what type in AD&D, but PoR might have a set number, though I don't remember it.
>>
>>3858682
Know any tips so I can mitigate trading so many missed blows (outside of putting enemies to sleep/paralyze)? Strength and Enlarge seem to help a bit, I'm not sure Meditation even does anything
>>
>>3858695
In general? It's all about positioning. Creating chokepoints with spells like Stinking Cloud and using the terrain. Make sure everyone has a ranged weapon and switch between them as needed. Don't be afraid to leave an area and explore elsewhere, coming back when you have better gear. I'm not sure what Meditation is, I assume that's a renamed spell. I last played the NES version in 1990 and only the PC or Amiga version since.

Based. I know it's hip to hate on this game here, but it's so damn comfy, and it's one of the most beautiful games I've ever played—there's something about the forced perspective and use of lighting in a fixed, pre-rendered background that creates a sense of atmosphere that even full 3D environments can't compete with.

I almost have the same party, except I swapped Imoen for Garrick since my PC is a thief. Chapter 6, considering visiting Durlag's Tower.

Btw I'm reminded by how in Warlockracy's video he says you can reach the level cap before even entering Baldur's Gate, but I don't think that's possible in the original. I've done a bunch of side quests, and I'm still at 40k experience. After doing the quests in the city I could find.

I’m playing the original Atari ST version using CSBWin. I think you posted screenshots from Dungeon Master: Theron’s Quest, which is more like a sequel or a significantly simplified, cut-down version. As far as I know, the SNES port isn’t that bad, but I can’t imagine playing it without a mouse.

Nice. I never have seen anyone mention it. Cosmic Star Heroine is nice, and then it's just done and you had a good time and can move on.
I really like Zeboyd's games though. They're all short, little love letters to JRPGs.

Well, if you're of a certain age, you might enjoy This Way Lies Madness as well. Just a really weird crossover game, with jokes that make me realize that I'm both old, and the exact same age as Zeboyd.

I guess she is a decent Crest user.
>>
>>3867558
Shining force clone, eh? Better than absolute tactics, I guess. Looking for tactics games and the former mentioned is not worth playing. Job selection is atrocious.
>>
>>3867592
It's combat menu is only Shining Force esque. The gameplay is not like Shining Force at all, it's a continuation of their logic from Cosmic Star Heroine.
The main interesting point is every area is a different Shakespeare play.
>>
>>3867595
Unsure if I got that right, but csh is basically a puzzle on the hardest difficulties. One wrong click and you'll lose the fight. You have to map the whole fight ahead or rely on try and error. More jrpg should enable planning ahead.
>>
>>3867600
I think I played CSH on the second to highest difficulty (forgive me, it's been a few years), but yes, I remember you restart every battle with full abilities and HP, and so each fight is basically figuring it out.
Easier difficulties you can make more mistakes, higher difficulties are closer to what you describe. Though, it's not that hard, I don't want to exaggerate it.

It is a great game. I think the second is the best of the original trilogy, but all three are great.
1's OST hits very hard as it uses a lot of live instrumentation, apparently recorded with a Tokyo college orchestra.

I don't think that's the case. Most of the music is just MIDI-type shit played by the PS1 soundboard.

WA1 using "The Ecstasy of Gold"as the main overworld theme was interesting. Lifted straight out of The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Lunar 1 and 2 on the Sega CD are better than the PS1 versions. Eternal Blue is kinda close and mostly the same on both platforms but 1 took a big hit in story beats and especially music. (Those overworld tracks!)
