Is anybody else regressing from modern RPG's back into retro ones, either legitimate or retro-styled indie clones?
there was an anon a while back that kept making threads about wanting to make a game with retro rouge-like graphics. For some reason they needed a thread all to themselves. Then they disappeared without ever posting a demo.I think they were fishing for attention or validation or something. Seemed like a simple thing you could do over a weekend.
>>3856031I play both. There is a neat little game called He Is Coming on Steam that's roguelike and I enjoyed it. I wouldn't recommend it at full price though.
>>3856031Nox Archaist is probably the best RPG released in the last 5 years, and Skald, Sargosian Abyss, Aeon of Sands, and Battle for Esturia are all small, neat, very fun RPG's, which is more than you can say about any published RPG's in the gaming scene for a while, so yes. Although not by choice, by force. Nobody, whether triple A or double A, are making good RPG's that I want to spend my money on.
>>3856031Is that an ultima clone
>>3856031Is that ultima
>>3856047Awful filter.
>>3856033Most game developing is relatively simple, but game studios have laughable management.
>>3856031I'm 51 years old. I'm still fucking traumatized from Ultima 5 to go back. End game, went into the underworld. No lighting. Somehow figured out how to teleport, with a black screen, to the goal. I have nightmares about that. Still. Fuck no I'm not going back. The only thing I go back to is Might and Magic 1, 4-8. Oh, and Dungeon Master.
>>3856821Ultima V is badass and I have been on the look out to a spiritual successor for most of my life. The having to teleport across impassible mountains thing is a pain in the ass though, yes.
>>3856047What is good about Nox Archaist? Looks like a U4 clone.
>>3856047You forgot Realms of Antiquity: The Shattered Crown.
>>3856047>Aeon of Sandswow, nice little title. any more recommendations?
>>3856047Caves Of Qud and ADOM are probably the ultimate examples of rogue-like games. There's lots of good ones, but those two are easily by far the best, still.
