I already played it. Enjoyed it more than 3. The major factor that needs fixing are the dungeons. Every single one is the exact same. Haha that was a trap door to an empty room! Here's some encounters!
That's what keeps it from being fun.

I play and like it as it is now. I do like a couple balance patches that exist for it but the base game by itself is pleasurable enough.
It's way better than 3 but 3 was basically what dragged itself along the ground so 5 can run.

But here's the thing: either you become easily defeated by anything or strong enough to decimate everything. I'm saying because I usually play through GBA and PSP versions, so maybe halving max levels would contribute to balancing things, IMO.

I have played every FF and not a single one has had an enjoyable dungeon. At best they are not annoying. But they are all so fucking basic and bland, the most interest they ever attempt is showing you treasure where the entrance to that area is obscured behind a switch or hidden door.

unless you actively grind, you're not likely to be higher than like ~10 at most at the end of the game. so halving the max level doesn't really impact much in practice.
