>adapt beloved pen and paper rpg with "real time" combat because you think turn based is for japanese FAGS, real americans like ACTION>idiots actually eat it up and think it's the most patrician shit since UlyssesThank fucking god people are over rtwp now after dnd got more players some years ago. Some fags acted like this shit was better than much better games just because it was based in some pen and paper game, while bioware actually botched the system HARD. It NEVER had the feeling of turn-based DnD. It was never a "real" rpg (doesn't exist yet on pc), it never came closer to emulating actual RPGs.
>>3857062>not feeling like turn-based dndThat's a good thing. Combat in dnd is dogwater.Real time allows for larger and more frequent encounters, or you end up with +20 minute slogs like in BG3.

>>3857064imagine copying a whole fucking system and then literally changing the most important thing in it and fucking everything over. Why the hell would anyone do that.I just can't excuse it. Why take EVERYTHING from the game but then fuck everything up like this? We know it's because they thought turn-based was boring, but really, why adapt it at all then.
https://rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=21here's a nice article on why turn based is THE crpg system.>>3857064dnd combat is usually mediocre, but there's been some good vidya adaptations like temple of elemental evil or knights of the chalice 2
>>3857068It's less than they thought it was boring and more that Diablo came out during BG1 development. Remember when game developers were gamers and just did what they thought would be fun?
>>3857109thisreal time rpgs were literally inconceivable before D1nobody had ever done it beforenobody had thought of it beforeand it only happened because of an accidentit was a breakthrough and a massive success and everyone was trying to emulate it
>>3857062Turn based would be better if RPGs had fewer but more unique encounters. But since RPG developers can't help themselves but to pad their games out with hundreds of mind numbing trash encounters, RTWP is better since it at least lets you get through them faster.
