Just finished this one. What did I think of it?

No shit you did, there is nothing after this phrase in the post.

You enjoyed playing as a Universalist and thought that the main quest and both DLCs are fine. But you disliked the amount of bloat with mediocre side quests and areas, the game would've been much better as a much shorter spiritual successor of Fable 1.

You also thought that Maid of Windemere is the best girl and did nothing wrong.

>finished
you have shit taste
>>
>>3857687
desu, it's not that bad. There are far worse 6/10 games out there.

Too fucking long. This game goes on for well past when it should of ended.
>>
>>3857667
You kept wondering why no-one else was online with you. Were you playing on a private server or something?
>>
It single handedly killed the Fable-like genre
>>
i remember playing this game decades ago (?). Felt so weird like maps were gigantic and the story was kinda weird. I remember liking magic because it wasn't just "spells" and the wand were actual magical weapons and there was something with the graphics, the more i played the more "sleepy" i would get...
Anyway it's a game you play once and forget about it

Well which is it?
>>

i remember playing it, i don't remember anything about the story, places, characters and enemies.
>>

You thought it was okay
>>

What I remember of this game was a couple wolves raping me as soon as I exited the tutorial (had the hardest difficulty on)
Good I thought this is gonna be fun.
Combat was extremely flashy and fluid too.
Then 5 mins later it had become an absolute snoozefest.
Game didn't have much going for it besides that, but I'm thinking of replaying at some point, cause games have gotten a lot shittier since then.
>>
>>3857688
4.5/10
at best
but even then there are far too many 7/10 games out there
>>
>>3857667
It's a 10/10 game trapped in a 6/10 game, which is to say that it was incredibly fun despite it's glaring flaws. Felt like an MMO but without the worst part of MMOs: other people.
>>
>>3858315
this game was supposed to be a mmo, devs retard wanted they first game to be a mmo and when the money ended they tried to do a singleplay. There is a reason why this ip was locked under the state of rhode island for years.
>>
>>3857667
honestly mightve even been a fun ARPG if they didnt spend most of its development thinking it was gonna be an MMO
>>
>>3858329
curt schilling was apparently just way into WoW throughout the 00s. thought he understood it enough to make a WoW-killer. and just as so many retards before and after him did, he failed, because he didnt comprehend the scope of what that meant
>>
>>3857667
You were like me and got into the game with the sole interest of running a sword and sorcery build only to realize the sword animation were wonky and less satisfying then 2004 WoW, so you dropped the game and this entire post is a lie.
>>
>>3858442
m8 you could literally respec as many times as you wanted, and at basically any point during the game
i cant even remember if you even needed to get an item or anything. im pretty sure you could just do it from the menu
>>
>>3858442
Sword is one of the least satisfying weapon types, together with magic staffs. Hammer, daggers and chakrams were my favorites, and feyblades become great when you unlock the air spin with massive range.
>>
Knew a guy that worked on this game. He was a dick. Have zero interest in playing it, mostly because it's a dead end game so who gives a fuck. Curt was a retard that just liked the idea of being a game developer because he was a fan of everquest. even the most overrated of fantasy authors couldn't save his fuckup.
>>
When people call open world games "offline MMOs" it's because of this one. I feel like all the ingredients for a better game where there, but they fucked it up in little ways, and there's a lot of pointless shit.
Never played the "remaster" (or whatever it was) that added some final area
>>
>>3857667
I enjoyed it a little bit, but always felt overwhelmed by a sentiment that I can only describe as "wasted potential".

>When people call open world games "offline MMOs" it's because of this one
im pretty sure FFXII is the first time i ever heard the term. so well before this game came out/was aborted into the world.
although, honestly, it definitely fits this game a lot more than FFXII, imo. given that its an actual attempted MMO that they had to make single-player late in development.

FFXII had those same giant fucking areas full of enemies that youd walk around in, dumb little fetch quests and whatnot, the hunts etc.
it had the MMO "format", but then it also had the rly big and believably-sized cities and hubs in between all those areas, with like a billion NPCs too, all coming and going. so while XII had the ability to maybe trick you into thinking you were playing with a ton of others at times. you didnt think about it much, because it was done well enough and had other things going for it,

by contrast, KoA actually felt like you were playing on a dead serb, on the last days of some MMO no one ever cared about. it felt like a formerly full world had died, and the only ppl left "alive" were lone NPC quest-givers, miles apart, who had been standing in that same spot giving that same rat-killing quest since day 1. except it was like that on day 1 too, and every day after that. it was like a dead MMO simulator. gives a rly depressing feel, probably what this guys >>3858805 talking about. no matter where you turn, you cant get away from the fact the game is an MMO, but no ones on, and no ones ever logging on, because they cant.

oh well. at least they didnt bankrupt the entire state of rhode island. or did they? i cant remember. RI is so small im surprised they dont just call it "providence". and i thought part of the collateral was the bloody sock from the spankees/sox series? that shits prolly worth a lot more now. i bet curt wakes up every day pissed about, still lol
>>
>>3859017
they in fact fucked RI really bad and for years they wanted to sell the IP for the full price of the loan.
>>
>>3859092
>wanted to sell the IP for the full price of the loan.
lol
not getting that money back. not after you pull a stunt like that.

its a shame because i bet if you took all that lore that they ended up writing for basically nothing, and put it in a real game, it might be fun
but then i dont remember a single shred of lore from the game, i just remember it was there, and lazily pasted into the menu. tho i cant tell if thats the fault of the lore, itself, or the game that the lore came in just being wholly forgettable
>>
>>3859107
I mostly just remember a lot of terms from Irish myth, demons popping up, and a lot of talk about fate due to it being something that can be pretty easily read in setting (that ends up destroyed by the PC). And a bunch of elves and gnomes I guess.
There's certainly enough material there to work with, but it's basically just a fantasy setting entirely for people who really like stuff like Drizzt and Spawn at the end of the day. There's certainly a decade it could have been big, but I don't know about the current one.
>>
>>3859107
The only thing i clearly remember from this game was some fae court bullshit and helping someone to organize a proper line to greet a king. I think the plot revolved around faes being trully immortals and trying to destroy the less mortal races or something like that?
>>
>>3859216
I think it was humans invade the immortal realm and upset the balance.
>>
>>3859309
Now that I've had a little more time to think aboutt it, IIRC it was that the fae were fated to fade away or something so the winter court sided with demons to kill all mortals.
The main conflict is on a different continent from where you start (hence giant empty world map, offline mmo, etc) where there was a war going on where one side was unable to die (or more like just freely reincarnates), while the other has attrition bleeding it to death.
Big dick hero McGee somehow got separated from fate in the process of being revived, kills the big demon and undoes fate itself. There's a lot of collecting 15 wolf pelts or whatever in the middle I'm leaving out
>>
>>3859336
i remember the map BEING SO BIG that i was max level or something like that and still had plenty of places to explore but it felt not worth because i already had amazing weapons and armor that i built.
>>
>>3859465
Having all that stuff when the best gear in the game is crafted always felt like a missed opportunity to me. If every corner of the world has unique items to find it would at least be one reason to go there.
>>
MJ looks worse than I remember.

>>3859465
If exploring feels pointless without the reward of treasure or experience, is that a problem with the game or with the player?
>>
>>3859602
it just that "what is the point"? You are already have the best gear and the maps are really really big but empty apart from random monster and quest giver... Play the game and you will understand
>>
>>3859602
It's the game in this case. Some areas are like if you were playing WoW and decided to wander into a lower level zone you never bothered with to do all the quests
>>
>>3859657
My tone was more critical than I meant. I just mean like for some people an unfolding mystery and resolution can be enough, but for others they need a feeling of growth even if it's just +1% to enemies with less than 10% hp remaining.
