>Played DD1, one of my favorite games of all time >Get DD2, not the game we wanted, underwhelming in many ways, but still fine >Mod it to hell to crank more hours out of the game, Mystic Knight, True Warfarer, Difficulty tweaks etc...>Now its pretty good, still a shadow of what it could have been, but its a lot better than vanilla>Clock in 260 hours >beaten the game 13, 14 times or so >Still can't bring myself to uninstall, or let it go >leave it installed and continue to go back to intermittently as a comfort game>Realize the DLC is never coming and its time to move onWhy can't I let it go and more importantly how can I let it go and what can fill this void?
>>3858441You've turned playing it into a habit and there aren't exactly many, if any, games like Dragon's Dogma 1&2.
>>3858441>what can fill this void?Get a job, wife and kids
>>3858478>JobDisabled Schizophrenic NEET, can't work >WifeSchizo meds give me sexual dysfunction, can't perform, no gf or wife in future >KidsWould be unethical to pass down schizo genes to to kids Anything else?
>postgame is on a time limit2nd most retarded decision Capcom has done in a game with Dragon in the title
I’m still waiting for these faggots to remove Denuvo before I buy dd2. I see them getting desperate with like 2/3rds off sales. Are they stupid or what?
>>3858534True, but its a generous amount of time to accomplish everything. Whats the 1st most retarded thing?
>>3858535What is Denovo and why is it stopping you from buying the game?
>>3858542>What is DenovoMalware.>why is it stopping you from buying the game?Principle.
>>3858541>Whats the 1st most retarded thing?the D Counter in Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter.Aka putting the entire game on a time limit and using dragon mode speeds up the counter. So it's a Breath of Fire game that punishes you if you use Dragon Mode.but the counter hitting 100% is the only way to beat the final boss
>>3858546I think there is one other decision that Capcom made in a Dragon game thats a contender for the worst. The stick swivel in DD1 when you're grabbed by a monster. You have to deliberately damage you're own thumbstick to get out of a grapple. For me thats worse than DD2's timed post-game.
>>3858441I don't really understand why you are underwhelmed by DD2. If you liked DD1, then the sequel is that but it's actually complete. There aren't huge areas of the map that are just blank, for example. It's gorgeous, it's satisfying, it's complete. It isn't underwhelming at all, it's an exquisite adventure game. But it is not an RPG.You don't have to force yourself to do something you don't want to do. You don't have to feel guilty for enjoying something. There is nothing wrong with enjoying something. You aren't experiencing a void. You're experiencing an internalized anti-fun toxicity which has infected you from outside of yourself. For example, from 4chan telling you that everything sucks. Everything doesn't suck. It's ok to like what you like, and you don't need fucking zoomers on 4chan to give you permission to like things.
>>3858441While I don't feel quite as strongly as you I think DD is full of unrealized potential. 1 felt like the skeleton of a great game and 2 didn't add enough meat to the frame to make me happy after a decade of waiting. I still LIKE it, but there's a longing in me for the "perfect" Dragon's Dogma game that we will probably never see because Itsuno is gone. That being said I'm still huffing copium that 2's DLC will function as a similar bump in quality like Dark Arisen did for 1.
>>3858568Thanks fren
>>3858441Dropped it before the coronation. I expected the story to be mid because that´s kind of normal for an exploration focused game but my problem with it is that there are only very few noteworthy areas that are not generic caves so everything becomes repetitive pretty fast. Fights also are not nearly as epic as the ones from the original game either even though lots of the monsters are the same. Quests and NPCs are also lacking. I´m sorry, i didn´t care about some guy being poisoned at a church or whatever. Everything feels so aimless and purposeless...
>>3858441>how can I let it go and what can fill this void?Life is a series of voids. If you aren't comprised of voids, you aren't living, contentment is for women.
>>3858568Yea I think this exact thing affected my enjoyment of the game on replays. Everyone on 4chan said the game was "ass" or "undercooked" or whatever. I think its better than base dd1, but not Dark Arisen, i'm not gonna let other anons affect my enjoyment of the game anymore. I would go as far as to say that the core combat of DD2 is the best in all of gaming, just DD1 but better(which was already the best) particularly with mods.
>>3858441>Why can't I let it goMental illness. >how can I let it goProfessional medical help, probably temporary institutionalization.
>>3858441>still a shadow of what it could have beenThat's what I don't get. They had enough time, money and know how. How did they fail this big?
>>3858443>if any, games like Dragon's Dogma 1&2.>>3859611Exactly my point. Dd2 could've been an instant classic selling 10 millions, if the devs would've only focused on the low hanging fruit. Pretty sure they were to comfortable in their positions, so they stopped caring soon.
>>3858441Are there mods that fix the enemy spawns so theres good variety and not the same packs of goblins every 3 steps? Are there mods to add new weapons to the game that aren't just reused models from the first game? Are there mods that put interesting things to find in the world so exploration doesn't feel pointless?
>>3859676>he doesn't know
>>3859678no, thats why I'm askingI looked at nexus for a while when the game came out and all the top mods were cheat mods and nude mods, which is probably still the case
>>3859682I doubt people add new enemy types. Modders usually do a minimum amount of work.
>>3859678I don't remember seeing anything reused from the first game. There's a lot of goblins, sure, but there's many types of goblins and they aren't the only type of creature you'll find while running around. There's a wider variety of "boss monsters". And there's definitely nowhere in the world you can go where there isn't something interesting. I have logged more than a thousand hours playing it and EVERY TIME I turned the game on... I'm not exaggerating... every single fucking time... I discovered some new little dungeon somewhere, some new piece of equipment I'd never seen before, some new creature I hadn't seen before. The first half of the game you'll be fighting your way through goblins and bandits frequently and then getting ambushed by a griffon or minotaur or cyclops or something. But if you go out at night everything's different with multiple types of undead and undead bosses joining the mix and all monsters are stronger.More importantly, does it feel repetitive? I don't think so. The changing terrain environment, all by itself, makes encounters dynamic, and you'll need to escort NPCs sometimes and so on. This is an action / adventure game, you know. So you're supposed to want action while you adventure... that means you'll be fighting a lot when you're exploring in places where there are monsters.
>>3858568>You don't have to force yourself to do something you don't want to do. Not OP but it sounds like you're projecting. OP isn;t guilty and is open about enjoying their modded version, their issue lies in the fact they believe the game could have been so much more and they know they'll never see it reach its 'full potential'.
>>3858441Is it really that bad?It has a nice discount on psn so i was thinking on getting it.
>>3858441Nothing can fill the void sadly. There just isn't any other experiences like DD. It''s crazy how retarded Capcom and the devs were. If they invested as much money into the property as Monster Hunter they'd have a genre defining experience like what they had with RE4. Instead they just shit out a mediocre unfinished sequel.
>>3858441Because there's nothing else like it. It might be a piece of shit, but you're not getting the experience anywhere else and the only other option is going back to Dark Arisen for the 1100th time. Same reason why people still subject themselves to Bonnerlord, or the Total War franchise despite them being miserable messes.
>>3860063>I don't remember seeing anything reused from the first game. Why bother typing a long-winded, obsequious, useless post if your opening sentence is so fucking incorrect everyone must assume you're a meaningless idiot?
>>3860267Maybe he meant seething? Sweating? Shitting? Shipping?
>>3860238It's true but Elden Ring hits pretty damn close. I was never a DS player and die hard DD OG but ER >>> DD2 if I'm being honest.I wish they had stuck to the DD:DA formula more, DD2 felt watered down from that. The Sphinx boss was amazing but everything else is downhill from it, the Mystic Lance guy was a sidegrade from Mystic Knight too somehow, and too many cheesy invulnerability modes kinda took the fun out of it.
>>3858534its actually not on a timelimit at a certain point, i forget if its before or after youre told to go the center but i also dont really care to argue about it with uninformed retards because i had fun with it
>>3862058I'm man enough to respect your opinion but Elden Ring for me, is complete and utter shit and is nowhere near DD at all. Elden Ring isnt a "world" or a "locale" its an abject hellscape. All of the hallmarks of an adventure or an expedition are absent completely from Souls games and theyre more akin, thematically, to you being a cursed dreg from the outset- theres no joy or beauty or obligation or anything. you just fight.as shitty and basic as DD as a game world is, a passing single fucking NPC saying "hello :D" when you get home covered in blood and make your way to sell your goods or a random other NPC offhand telling you "some Ogres like cock" is still more of a fleshed out experience than what i felt Elden Ring to be. But i suppose it depends which type of adventure like. Heironymous Bosch Souls is pretty cool all things considered
>>3862058There's no way you can even dare claim ER is better than DD2 in any way whatsoever. Not in graphics. Not in atmosphere. Not in combat mechanics. Not in the gameplay feel of combat or exploration. Not in character customization. Not in the experience of interacting with NPCs. Not in quests. DEFINITELY not in ability / spell design. Not in any .... fucking .... way....No. Fucking NO.I feel an actual need to fucking vomit that you'd even joke like that.
>>3858568for me it's the lack of dungeons and a BBI equivalent
>>3858441From what I've seen, DD2 improved melee classes that were garbage in the OG game. But they forgot that people played the game because of the post-game. Everfall and UR-dragon grind. They kind of didn't understand that people criticized Rise for its lack of current endgame content. Yes, sales were front loaded and MH is bigger than DD, which allows MH to receive more content in the future. But OG DD had a lot of content before BBI. They really think that going from one quest to another is fun, gate gear in quests, and “epic” set pieces like Grigori or Griffon are why people continued to play DD. And not because the game had a lot of post-game content. In DD1, I was about to give up on the game until I said “fuck it” and did the whole main quest and got to the post-game. It went from a boring game to something really fun. Also, without hard mode, which is infinitely more fun than normal, and Speed-Run mode. DD2 hates its players, and the game also looks ugly and overpriced.
>>3858441I stopped after beating this once. It's nothing compared to DD1.
>>3858520Working out and stop being shizo idk
>>3863444Worst poster on the board.
>>3862186DD2 is packed full of dungeons, though? There's even several "above ground" dungeons like the misty forest area or the mountain ravine area where the sphinx goes after you solve her first few riddles. Most of them aren't super-long ten hour crawls with puzzles and traps and shit, but it's an adventure hack-and-slash game, not a Zelda puzzler / platformer.
>>3862832DD2 does have a "post-game", though... It's not so secret anymore. It's not ugly, it's an achingly *beautiful* low-fantasy world. It literally gives a painful sense of nostalgia or loss because I've never seen another game do a setting like that. TES is wacky comedy ultra-hyper-magic bullshit. Zelda is extremely specific and anime. All the Pathfinder and D&D games are hyper-magic, too. DD2 is the only game that has done a serious drama in an understated world where there's NEVER any kind of hint that "lol a wizard did it lmao". There's magic and mystery and it's serious, it's sober. It's not gimmicky or anime cartoons. If you just want to spam mash the A button and watch number go up with strobe lights flashing at you, go kill yourself. DD2 is not for you. You are not welcome. Leave.
>>3862832>DD2 improved melee classes that were garbage in the OG gameThere was exactly one bad melee class (and arguably only one bad class period, depending on how you view mage) in the first game.
>>3864880Melee in OG was terrible. Very slow, vulnerable, and with garbage skills. Hybrid classes, aka bow classes, were the superior classes. To the point that they had the best skills in the game. The meta in the game is to use Assassin and switch to whatever build you want to create. And that includes Warrior, MK, and Fighter. DD2's slower-paced combat and improved skills made Melee viable without cheese strategies. Still, bow classes are still the best DD2 classes.
>>3864887Are you kidding? Fighter was a strong vocation and better at swords than assassin, strider was at its strongest when it was up close with enemies (it's literally the dagger class, the short bow is your weaker secondary weapon, not your main form of offence), and MK was also a very strong vocation because of its strong skills. I can't tell if I'm being baited right now. Strider is widely considered the strongest vocation in 1 because of its dagger skills
>>3864887>To the point that they had the best skills in the game. The meta in the game is to use Assassin and switch to whatever build you want to createYou can't transfer assassin's unique skills to other classes. You only stay assassin and switch if you want to optimise attack damage. That has nothing to do with other classes being weak, and it has everything to do with assassin having the highest base attack stat growth in the game. If you actually want to optimise your melee then you one 100% need to also get fighter and warrior's augments for better damage, defences, and knockdown reduction. Assassin has rather mediocre augments all things considered, unless you're doing a solo run. Especially since they were nerfed in Dark Arisen. And that all only applies to attack-maxing physical vocations. If you want to maximise your magical power you player sorcerer then switch. Because sorcerer has the highest magic attack growth, not because everything else is awful (I mean MA arguably has awful stat growth, but the vocation itself is good).
>>3864918>>3864916>>3864887And to add because I'm too braindead to make a single consolidated post, mage/sorcerers are slower than melee classes, and fighters can not only block/parry much of what comes their way, but they also have multiple skills giving them i-frames. It's absurd to say they're very vulnerable. It feels like we played entirely different games
>>3864887>Melee in OG was terribleStopped reading here. I loved warrior
>>3864941Warrior was fun but it really was the worst class. Fewer skills, massive wind-ups that, unlike sorcerer, couldn't be moved so you could charge up your arc of deliverance and it's ruined by the enemy moving slightly. Fewer unique skills, massively slowly attack speeds that were better if you cheesed them by jumping. I beat the game with it, but it was several steps below the design of everything else, for whatever reason.
>>3864956>Warrior was fun>I beat the game with itFixed your post.
>>3864957I think I lied, I switched out to something else (assassin maybe, can't recall) for Daemon. He's really fucking annoying to fight as a warrior. Skipped death too. Everything else was fun
You're handicapping yourself without dagger classes. I spent a long time running around in my first full game playthrough. Now that I've learned cutting wind, I use daggers for about 90% of my playthroughs. I only switch if I want some arguments and want to level up shit. DD really screwed up by making a unique skill better than a universal skill.
>>3864960I’ll admit, death and the beholder were pretty annoying as a warrior. I understand most people disagree, but I personally preferred the base game over the postgame/BBI. I did BBI and finished it but didn’t really care for it.
>>3864995I can see why someone would prefer the base game. I enjoy the base game and BBI equally, for different reasons. I didn't care much for the non-BBI postgame/Everfall. Every time I've played I've either rushed through it for the sake of reaching the actual ending or just ignored it entirely
>iraklis + cursed king's belt + barbed nails>clout + impact>indomitable lunge + exodus slashLET'S GO GAMBLING
>>3858520Bro?
>>3858441You need something infinitely replayable that is good every time.Path of Exile (1 or 2)
>>3862101Yeah you're full of shit though or just terminally weeb brained because ER hits a lot of those notes. Granted DD2 has moments with cool NPCs, DD1 had a lot more sadly.I'd prefer DD2 smother mechanics and customization + ER level difficulty for sure, but we don't get what we want because J-dev took a shortcut based on his ego and rep and got paid anyway is the truth of the matter here. You won't get better from Capcom or any dev if you keep defending slop and not recognizing the competitor's advancements.Look at Mon Hun which even shared dragon skeletons with DD1 once upon a time, Capcom pours budget into that yearly because people consume GAAS slop and pretend it's great and perfect, mostly because they're terrified the dopamine skinner box drip will dry up same as POE players.>>3863624It's red barren landscape on a time limit because it sucks and they wanted to limit your time in rushed content is the brutal truth.I get what you're saying and even agree but you can't ignore the truth of DD2's shallow and pathetic post game content compared to even Everfall much less Dark Arisen. There's literally like 2 unique monsters and items there, it's fucking sad how rushed it feels.
>>3866100Why not ADOM, Caves Of Qud or Grim Dawn? Or any other procedural game?
