what are some RPG games that left you feeling like you had enjoyed a well rounded and "full" story/world?one that didn't feel like a slog, didn't feel stuffed with bloat, and just kept you engaged the whole way through? Witcher 2 and 3 did it for me, as did Ni No Kuni (1) and Risen
You don't like RPGs.
>>3859042most fire emblem games, solid linear story, with engaging and challenging gameplay without any filler crap side content you feel obligated to do.Genealogy and 3H unfortunately dont count for this because they're each bloated in their own way.
>>3859042Legend of Legaia. It comes around big time in the third act with a lot of backstory.
Enderal, Archolos
>>3859042>what are some RPG games that left you feeling like you had enjoyed a well rounded and "full" story/world?>one that didn't feel like a slog, didn't feel stuffed with bloat, and just kept you engaged the whole way through?Every RPG when I don't spend time on side content.
>>3859042>one that didn't feel like a slog, didn't feel stuffed with bloat
>>3859237Like 5-6 years ago I did a 100% run of Witcher 3. It probably took me 250 hours. I would unhesitatingly recommend anyone else considering the same to simply skip all those POIs out on the water and the tiny islands on Skellige. It’s a big waste of time and there’s nothing interesting or useful, just shitty loot.
>>3859042Nox. Actually finding side-content in that game felt amazing because it's hidden and rewarding, as well as not hindering the main quest at all. And the main quest always puts you in interesting scenarios (my jaw dropped when I first had to fight Horrendus as a mage despite him being ally in other routes, and the motherfucker is RUTHLESS). The last stretch of Swamps to Hekuba temple can be a bit tiring, but thinking back it really helps to prop up the idea of storming the enemy fortress solo.
>>3859239You must have enjoyed those 250 hours though. Otherwise you would have caught on quicker lol
>>3859254Once you get far enough into the sunk cost fallacy you’re emotionally committed and gotta finish what you started. Buy the ticket, take the ride and all that. Overall I had fun, but those POIs were a waste of time.I think the last game I had to force myself to finish and was actively not having fun by the end of the game was BG3. Big disappointment that one was
>>3859259Maybe someday you'll learn to spend your time enjoying things
>>3859042Witcher 3 is easily top 50 RPG of all time material.
Picrel. When I finished the last postgame superboss, I had just over 300 hours on my save. Played this pretty consistently for about a year. Took a week's break once in a while, but never once did I get burnt out or felt like it was a slog. Even grinded a few crowns on a couple girls. This game is quite dear to my heart.
>>3859237This is not the gotcha you think it is. Go to any interactive online map for any game and check all the boxes, it will look exactly like this.
>>3859397You clearly never played that map.
>>3859405Why would i roam around to collect every piece of junk on the map? did you also collect all Korok Seeds in BOTW? The fact that there is a junk item there doesnt mean you should spend your time collective all of them, thats YOU disrespecting your own time. The developers shows you after 5-10 attempts that what you see is what you get.
>>3859406Would you say they stuffed the game with bloat?
>>3859410Because CDPR prioritizes immersion & world-building.They believe this creates a sense of realism within their worlds and therefore makes the player more immersed in their gaming experience.Skellige is supposed to be an ancient Island where thousands of raids happened, and when the ship is destroyed its content gets lost in the sea, this is the entire point behind it.
ai reply posters need to be hanged
>>3859416>2025>being robophobic
>>3859416Where do you see AI replies you schizo?
>>3859042Witcher 3 absolutely was a slog filled with bloat.
>>3859449>slog filled with bloat.Every open world game everAt least Witcher 3 had quests that were well made and are memorable, also its easily top 5 open world games when it comes to story & characters.
>>3859449not really a big fan of the game but it has some of the best quest design ever, even simple monster contracts have some sort of spin to them
>>3859042I dropped Twitcher 3 shortly into one of the expansions because it became a boring slog. Also>what are some roleplaying game games
>>3859042That´s probably because the side quests didn´t feel like busywork filler. Some side quests on Witcher 3 even felt like they were main story tier by most WRPGs standards.
>>3861868writing not design. Design would be making the contract bargaining actually meaningful (I recall it not actually working as advertised? whereas it works as a system in KCD) or having states where the monster exists in the world and can continue to target the contract givers. Having it exist means you have to actually track it in the world using abilities, no linear checklist and you can't leave the quest on the backburner indefinitely. Then there are states branching from this where you can upset the peasants and they try to lynch you or pull a fast one on you. Then this can all affect some Witcher reputation stat or chart
>>3859042BG3, Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age Origins, NWN2
>>3862002BG3 is disgusting trash.
>>3861905>some Witcher reputation stat or chartIt's a basic premise that witchers are universally feared and despised.
>>3859239Skellige is definitely the least fleshed-out region in the game. It looks like the devs had deadlines to hit, and just chose to go with what they'd got.I like how, when sailing about the islands, you can literally watch the sirens appearing at their spawn points.
>>3863231The late game story is rushed too.
>>3863231>Skellige is definitely the least fleshed-out region in the game. It looks like the devs had deadlines to hit, and just chose to go with what they'd got.The entire development was them fumbling around trying to figure out how to make an open world game. They had to redo parts of it multiple times. The Lord of Undvik quest and island is one of the more robust ones because it served as a testbed for what they could do but took too much time. There are videos where they go over all this.
>>3859042Aura Clash, a text based animeslop game that used to have ads around here. It shouldn't be considered good, but Bloodlines 2 has reset my expectations.
>>3859042Cyberpunk. BG3. VTMB 1. New Vegas kinda/sorta.That's about it. Most RPG worlds are either full of filler slop or just a backdrop, they don't feel like real places.
>>3863344>Cyberpunk. BG3These both had way too much modern politics clumsily projected onto the material by lazy and incompetent devs for me to take them seriously and be immersed in the settings. Hard to suspend disbelief.
