I'm finally falling down the old CRPG rabbit hole, and just wanted to know if I'm missing any classics or hidden gems on my Odyssey of a list.

I've been wanting to get into the genre for a while now, occasionally picking up games in steam sales that look good. Recently I started playing Baldur's Gate 1. (just got to chapter 5) and I already know I'm hooked. I bought a bunch of games in the Steam Autumn sale, and I'm just looking for any recommendations to add onto it. Mostly for stuff like "Oh, you won't understand this mechanic without seeing it's first implementation in this other game" or "You should probably play this game before that game so you don't get spoiled randomly" or "Skip this one, it's overhyped"

So far I've got:
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
Fallout
Fallout 2
Icewind Dale
Planescape Torment
Neverwinter Nights
Divinity Original Sin
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Underrail
SKALD: Against the Black Priory (this one I never heard about before, but just looked cool)

I also see Arcanum for only $6 right now, and I've heard that it belongs on the CRPG mount Rushmore alongside BG1, Fallout, and Planescape Torment.

I know it'll take me ages to actually finish these games, but I'm not in any rush at the moment.
If it helps with knowing what to recommend, I always play every RPG first time through as a wizard or similar paralell (so, energy weapons, science, repair, and medicine in Fallout)

Dragon Age Origins

Post your steam library and then we'll talk

That list is all the CRPGs I've got in my library right now.
There's also Witcher 1&2, maybe you consider them CRPGs.
It's a bit unclear what's a Computer RPG or just a regular RPG. There's a couple first person dungeon crawlers, All Elder Scrolls and Fallout games (except 76)

I've got 199 games on steam now that I look at it, which really makes it tempting to buy Arcanum.

Spellforce, Arx Fatalis, Diablo 1 and 2, Sacred

No Wasteland or Wasteland 2? No Pillars of Eternity? Wasteland 2 and Pillars aren't necessarily "old CRPGS" but they were around the same time Divinity: ORiginal Sin was if I remember correctly.

Get Archaelund instead of Arcanum. You need Archaelund, OP. It's that one old school CRPG that lets you make a party with Minotaurs and Goblins.

Instead of making a list of games that you're never going to touch like a fag, and fucking around on 4chan - pick one singular game and play it immediately. Post screencaps of you playing that game in this thread by the end of the week or fuck off and die.

If you say so. Here's a shot of me playing Baldur's Gate. I'm working my way through Durlag's Tower now before beating Sarevok. Then I'll go on to Siege of Dragonspear, and Shadows of Amn and so on.

Do the gold box games. Go all the way back.

great. So now the thread's pointless and you shouldn't have made it in the first place because you have what you're going to do already laid out.

I actually want to discuss how long it would take him to get through each game?
>>

What post did you even read? I don't think it was the thread you're currently replying to.
I said I'm looking for more classics to add to the list. Maybe some ideas on a better play order for them.

>Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
2 builds on 1, really great sequel. needs some patches but KOTOR2 is my favorite piece of Star Wars media.

Icewind Dale 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2

I keep forgetting Icewind Dale 2 exists, just because it's not on steam.
I'll see if that fan-made enhanced edition is worth it after finishing the first one.
NWN2 is on the wishlist now.

It's not. Vanilla IWD2 is worth one playthrough, though.

Imagine spending hours of your life gatekeeping threads on this molasses board because you don't know what to do with impotent liberal rage.

Ultimas, Ultima Underworld, Gold Box series, although we'll soon get into an argument between CRPG and DRPG/Blobbers down this path as they're now known. I only bring this up since you seem to be leaning into the CRPG/Isometric styled games more. There was no such distinction between RPGs when these were released.

You're speaking of spoilering/burnout on mechanical factors so therefore there is no other way to play them than chronological release date if you want to enjoy things through less of a modern jaded lens.

You're already at 1000s of playthrough hours with your current list though so choose your temporal sacrifices wisely against the real world.

I'm interested in first person dungeon crawlers too. I've just always thought that old RPGs in an isometric style sounded fun to get into. It was actually Morrowind that got me into really wanting to go down old number crunching dice rolling games, and I figured I'd find better implementations of that in games where you don't directly control your character, but instead issue commands.

I'm sort of treating this Odyssey of games as you might treat a stack of books in a long running series. Tackle them one at a time. Take breaks when I'm feeling down on it. Feel a nice little bit of satisfaction when I see the ending, then open up the next one. It's like a soap opera that I know will go on long enough for me to have my fill.
