I think it's more people who are anal about playing solely or primarily RPGs. They attract plenty of normal people, but autists, snobs, and the anal retentive gravitate toward them especially hard. I think /vrpg/ is probably one of the most consistently irritable and pedantic boards I visit on occasion.

>Game has so many debuffs that there's two that you will probably never see in battle unless you go out of your way to find the enemy class that has the spells for them, but won't even cast them on your characters because they prioritize reviving the undead or poisoning your units.

SMT Strange Journey bosses have a skill that resets all buffs/debuffs they use if you max any of them out, it's a viable strat to bait them into it.

Darkest Dungeon is guilty of this with bleed and the undead, but at the same time the game is deliberately designed so that some heroes are simply not worth taking into certain areas.

Love me some etrians, but it's not always well balanced. Some encounters feel like the intended strategy is just disable the enemy completely, nuke them, and not interact with their moves. Nexus is especially bad for this, where I'd just start every encounter with panic, even if it was a blind cast on a new enemy

I'd disagree, each hero has 7 skills, you can take easly any hero to any dungeon. Sure Plague doctor will play differently in Ruins and Weald due to high Blight res. in Weald, but her non Blight abilities are perfectly fine there.
