Post your favorite companion from any RPG and why they're your favorite
Both probably some of the most normalfaggish games ever, but BG3's Jaheira and Alistair from Dragon Age are weirdly enough the only companion characters in anything I've actually liked. Not because either of them have splendid personalities or anything, but because there's something about the wirting that make them believable in a way no other characters I've interacted with ever quite reach.
>>3867756So far Dragon Age has had the most enjoyable party. BG2 had a great cast too, I wish they had more content.
for obvious reasons
I genuinely think laezelshe's interestingdynamicshe intertwines with a lot of aspects of the main quest incredibly well, i mean she's literally the character depicted in the introshe embodies the gith really wellher voice acting is phenomenal she naturally grows closer to the party over the adventure in tone and actions without it remotely being obvious. it just happens even her romance is cute.whatever issues you have with bg3 i could imagine just slotting her into any other rpg and she would still be the standout character. i honestly think larain put put ALL of the work into just her astarian and shadowheart and just let the other 3 go die fucking karlach didn't even get her quest finished lol
>>3867756>doesn't talk>is expendable>performs its role wellAll I ask from a companion.
Boone is a killing machine and he always has my back.
>>3867756Possible options are Jeff or Poo from Earthbound, Kivan from Baldur's Gate, Khelgar from NWN2, Vatnir from PoE2:Deadfire, Sosiel from Wrath, Ekun from Kingmaker, Solomorne from Rogue Trader... and the nameless skeleton I reanimated as a pet in one of the longer ADOM runs. Of these, Sosiel is probably the most well-rounded in terms of mechanical strength in the game and total narrative interactions. From non-RPGs, probably Garrus Vakarian from the Mass Effects or Alistair from Dragon Age: Origins. But those aren't actually RPGs, so...
>>3867879And yet that isn't a screenshot, it's a beauty-filtered AI illustration....
>>3867936Behold, Plato's waifu
I have hard to elaborating why I like him so much. probably his philosophy and the scarification.
Uthgerd the unbroken>early and easy to get>like her voice>can mod into a bikini clad mommy
>>3867756Arcanum: Virgil. Very grounded, acts as a good guide and has a good past that he doesn't immediately share to you unlike most companions. Some even try to ride your dick on day 1.
>>3867756
>>3867960But for me, it was Durance.
I like Dakkon from PST. the crisis of faith he goes through was an interesting way to develop his character.
>>3867936I just grab a pic from google anon
>>3868151We know.
PANCAKE TIME
cool design, cool voice, cool theme, tragic plotlinehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nteDlhRBP8Q
Not a particular companion, but the entire camp system in Red Dead Redemption II was extremely immersive and it was very cool to camp from region to region with a group of people. Very immersive and interesting. I might be the best way to tell a story.
>>3868081>I like Dakkon from PST.He also became a blueprint for an entire race.
No contest for my Queen. Back then I loved her because it was like traveling with an old slightly-cynical Captain Janeway (that voice!).Now, I love her even more bcuz she makes the psuedos seethe until their eyes pop out.>Yes I get that she eventually tried to kill me and all my friends plus destroyed my life while simultaneously confessing her love for me, but that's just normal behavior for women
>>3867756Kane and Maeve. If you know you know.
>>3867756For me is the generic character I recruit at the very start of the game because the MC is no fun to play with (overpowered and boring) and I make a whole build that I want to try besides 'muh hero'.Also, I always stick to the first critter you're given to or that you can tame early in the game. That means my Fairy ALWAYS stays with my party in SMT runs.
>>3869300Is ToT actually good? I don't trust vtard's opinions on anything but I trust you more than an opinion on Ribbit or Steam(ing turd).
>>3868689He was OP as fuck back in his younger days.
>>3869284You don't really understand what she meant when she said she loved you, anon... She loved you because you were the incarnation of her thesis. In the manner of all malignant narcissists, she didn't care about you for your sake, she cared about what you meant as an instrument for her own self-actualization. She was excited because you represented an opportunity for her to fully and finally be proven "right" according to herself. She was Ayn Rand in space, and you were her Alan Greenspan. And, much like Alan Greenspan, you would eventually prove her hopelessly, completely and embarrassingly wrong about literally EVERYTHING she ever said, whether you realized it or not, whether you wanted to or not. She's a great character and an amazing monster precisely because of how real she was. That kind of malignant personality is extremely real - there are examples all around you, though most people with such a profound personality disorder are not nearly as philosophical or introspective about it. Trump is a great example. The archetypical Disney step-mother. Hitler. Kim Jong-Il. Voldemort. It's such a classic character trope it's borderline cliché, and despite tottering on that knife edge for thousands of years it remains a compelling trope because it's just such a recognizable crystal of human faults and sins. The reason she was great as a character is that the game's story actually went into detail to understand why she is the way she is, how she thinks, how she justifies herself, and shows how she can reframe literally anything to suit her need for self-soothing. And she does it in such a classic manner, that professional writers rolled our eyes even while we admired the purity of her depiction. She wasn't innovative, but she is who Palpatine should have been... if Star Wars were meant for a more mature audience. Palps is the flagship, though, because Star Wars with all its childish "dark and light" nonsense is meant for children primarily.
>>3869317>make a post about Kreia triggering low-IQ pseuds>a pseud immediately shows up vomitting retarded verbal diarrheaSee, this is why I still love that woman.
>>3869317>HitlerStopped reading here
>why did Lyle do it bros?
My life is missing a smug green eyed redhead.
Kreia is the deepest, most complex, well written character in not only video game history, but literary history as well. Avellone, through her, basically disproves that things like race, nationalism, or beliefs matter. No matter what you do, you are just a slave to the system, fighting for something else other than yourself. The only way to be truly independent is to become a nietzschean superman who throws out morals and does whatever the fuck he wants no matter what the normie boomers and adults say. When I played Kotor2 as a teenager when it came out it inspired me to start taking my own freedom seriously and join the libertarian party.
>>3869476>triggered pseud ITT count: 2 and rising>but at least this vomit was mildly amusing bait attempt
>>3869313In a nutshell, yes. It's a well written self-contained party-based adventure, not a grand epic like so many rpgs are trying to be. The story is good, it's interesting but nothing mold-breaking and the characters are very well written and easily carry it. If you go through the game reading the lore there's a lot of subtle implications that are made clearer as you progress so you have a chance to figure things out before they're ultimately revealed. I found a few twists made me slap my head in hindsight. It has quite a few branching options but they're mostly reward based mini-quests so they're not critical to the plot but it does offers some replay value. There's quite a neat alignment system where you can steer the conversations of your party which will change their perceptions of each other. Combat wise it's pretty neat, each battle is a self-contained tactical affair, and believe me, tactics do matter. Later in the game, encounters can grow a little stale by the end of each floor but then the next floor provides a nice refreshment. Best tips I would suggest is there's optional challenges you unlock as you progress, the can be attempted any time you like, and while some will require you to progress further in order to not get your ass kicked, complete them sooner than later as they're great for leveling up.
>>3869982Sounds good enough to me. I'll give it a shot, since I'm so sick of "le grand epic adventure". Even if I end up not liking it, thanks for the recommendation Anon, it's been a while since I've seen an honest spoilerandsarcasm-free rec that actually interested me in a game.I don't really have a similar rec to return but I still love M&M 3-7 and I've been enjoying the vaguely-RPG/X-comish Shardpunk Verminfall for years (no the dev isn't paying me shit, it's just a fun simple game). YMMV.
