What are your favorite turn-based RPGs where enemies appear on the game overworld and you can attack them from behind for a tactical advantage?

I like how Trails has different attack animations for each character. Persona 3 FES, back when the main could equip all the weapons, was probaby the most fun version of that mechanic.

What's not so good is that so many fights just turn into, ambush, group attack, wipeout. In persona at least you have to prep the right element teams to do that. In the trails I've played it's completely braindead

Best one by far is Metaphor.
You need to get enemies in a stun state by attacking them repeatedly first. Enemies have different kind of attacks, like charges, swings, ranged attacks which if they hit you triggers and ambush.
Any game that just has enemies walk around on empty fields or large corridors and maybe jogging at you when they see you is shit.

I was trying to distinguish between backstabs inside combat vs outside combat, if you know what I mean.

Would you say the game is worth picking up now or just wait for the inevitable enhanced edition in 2 more years?
>>
>>3869058
I doubt an enhanced version is coming soon, if ever. The devs are busy working on the Persona 4 remake and the next new Persona game.

But Metaphor is a good game with some nice ideas, but mixes in some Persona and SMT elements. With a dash of Utawarerumono.

Even if Studio Zero is busy working on something else right now, who's to say they won't do an enhanced version later or if another ATLUS studio will pick it up? I've been burned by ATLUS too many times by buying the first version of a game only for them to rerelease a whole new enhanced version of the same game with extra steps later on. What makes you so sure they won't do it even though their track record points towards them doing it anyways?

Even if in theory it would happen for some reason with some team they pulled from their ass, it would be for a next gen Xbox and Playstation version, which are still ways off.
The big noteable exceptions are Persona 5 Royal and SMTV Vengeance, with the latter mainly being for porting to every other system apart from Switch 1. Both of these versions came 3 years after release, so even IF it would come out it would be in 2027.

>2027
With the amount of games I still want to play, that's a bet I'm willing to take.

>outside combat
There you go.
