>>3869863I really like how Kuro is simultaneously woke and based because the Japanese can't put aside their traditional assumptions.>kuro: immigrants and illegals are discriminated against, economically disadvantaged and have to resort to crime for social cohesion. >kuro 2: White ones too, btw, and the government/NGOs don't support them (in universe because North Ambria's saltification was one off and stopped while the Eastern desertification is ongoing and will possibly threaten the good countries people like such as Erebonia and Erebonia) and are at a higher risk of being human trafficked>kai: the problem is that Whites are racist and browns aren't smart enough to compete I've never seen a bigger pingpong. >StoryKai > Kuro > Kuro 2>GameplayKai > Kuro 2 > Kuro>Music Kuro > Kuro 2 > Kai
While Final Fantasy has spent almost two decades (FF12 was released in 2006) without a core identity and Dragon Quest's future is in question due to the passing of key staff members, in the past few years, Kawazu's series had a rapid rise in esteem in the West. Starting with the Western release of Romancing SaGa 2's remaster in 2016, each release has garnered more and more attention until 2024's remake of the same game went mainstream, or as mainstream as a jRPG that isn't FF7 can get. While Revenge of the Seven, the remake of RS2, is good, real jewel is Emerald Beyond. As minimalist as Scarlet Grace, the game throws its entire weight into the combat system. The result is on of the best turn based combat systems, without additional caveats. >pic related: your response to my post
>>3869868Kuro 2 is the only game were I felt it wanted to be woke, while Kuro just had to feature this stuff because it was set up a decade before
>>3869939The Quatre Question (the QQ) will linger for decades. What the fuck is even going on there? He's a satanic molestation victim AND wacky Ramna style sex changes? Are we to believe, based on Kai's revelation about his boobs growing when he is stressed out, that he was never stressed at a single point before that social link in Kai, which is set at a comparatively unstressful point? Like he's certainly not normal, but I don't know if "alchemically androgynous child victim of satanists designed to trap angels" is the trans representation they were looking for.
>>3869947Yeah the entire Quatre stuff confuses me, like they played it 100% serious during 1 and 2, but in Kai they turned it into comic relief and imply that he turns gay if he doesn't take his hormone blockers. Also the entire plot about DG wanting to turn him into some kind of angel figure by making him both male and female was such a contrived shit show, not even mentioning that all the trans allegory stuff happens in his optional bonding event at the end of 2.Considering that Kuro 2 only exists as a quick cashgrab, it wouldn't surprise me if Falcom wanted to receive some DEI investments for all that stuff
>>3870146I don't know, without Kuro 2, Kai doesn't work at all. We needed a game where the time travel was played with lightly before people would accept the Great Reset arc.
>>3870146>only exists as a cashgrabwelcome to Trails
>>3870149It's good foreshadowing, but not that important that we needed an entire game for it.Everything else important 2 did (mostly last Geneses) could've been put into Kai.90% of Kuro 2 is filler.
I liked the Coldsteel games but Daybreak was one of the worst RPGs I've ever played in my life. The story sucks and the gameplay is braindead. Even the soundtrack isn't good.
>>3870207>gameplay is braindeadcold steel was so much more braindead once you realize how broken evasion was in those games. Also soundtrack is great, don't see how you can dislike it, Grendel Theme might be my favorite "epic moment" track in the series
>>3869883I tried Scarlet Grace Ambitions but it feels like I am missing something. Was I supposed to rotate my party members?and what does Emerald Beyond do to make it better?
