Zoomer by the way. Playing the translated snes version no speedup. no save state.
>>3874174I'm going through the series and haven't gotten to 5 yet, almost there, but I played to the first cave of both the SNES and PS2 versions to check if the translation I downloaded worked well, and all I have to say is:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7KSTl54aCkbest overworld theme ever, followed byhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USlwK2QHz_0best cave theme ever
>>3874193I should probably be going in order lol I've played 1 on the Gameboy and I got pretty far in 11 but had to stop due to circumstances out of my control i wanna go back and play through 11 someday.
>>3874196No, just play what you like. I'm just weird. Even the games that are related aren't that related. I basically tried the first game because I hadn't played a JRPG in many years and thought the grandfather of the genre might be a fun game to start with since I have been playing /vr/ games anyway. Then I got hooked.
>>3874197Final fantasy really got me on the rpg grind when I decided to play ff1, ive played quite a few of the ff games actually ive played 1 2 4 7 9 and 16
>>3874174This thread inspired me to pick up the game, I just got done with the boss ghost in Lenoire Palace and I'm loving it so far. The OST's fantastic and the game's quite fair with its challenge.
>>3874626Thats awesome! Im glad to be honest im only really a tad bit further than you are since ive been busy with work but feel free to post more i already know spoilers anyways.
>>3874643So far I'm kind of surprised how easy it is, I haven't really been on death's door since the very beginning in the first cave. Only enemy that's causing me any grief (they're fuckin' fire resistant) is these guys, their fire attack does some pretty decent damage even with the best gear.Another thing that's a bit of a double-edged sword is how much fucking money you get. I remember the first two being much, much more stingy with what they'd give you.
>>3874201Play FF VI you foolish fool!
>>3874174I played the DS version. It was fantastic. I think they fixed stat growth for certain characters.
Okay, I stand corrected. That was pretty difficult.
>>3874652 that almost killed me ngl I was scared and it was so tense trying to get out of the dungeon.
>>3874656Yeah I probably would've died if I didn't have the best gear lol, that's a much harder fight than anything previously.
>>3874201You haven't played 6 yet?! What... the fuck... how?
ONE OF THIS NIGGA'S SPELLS JUST HIT THE PANTHER FOR 50
>>3874174somewhere after meeting waifu option #2 I realized this game is a miserable boring slog like every other game in the series besides VIII and dropped it. maybe it gets good 20 hours in, who knows, but still not worth it either way. much like VII the actually interesting beginning of the game tricked me into thinking itd be fun but no just endless boring caves and fetch quests.
>>3874193The ps2 soundtrack is so fucking good. I can't imagine playing any other version
Ive got some time now so im back on the dq5 grind
>>3874174Easily the best DQ game
>>3874174its my favorite one, played it on my snes with a repro cart.keep us posted on your progress
>>3874193>>3874193Youtube compression crushes the audio pretty badly but I love how these were recorded. The 1+2 remake BGM sounds strange to me.Even with the volume turned up it sounds like the instruments are far away and spaced apart too much. Distant cello music towards the center-left is suddenly joined by a violin close up to your right ear. It's just... weirdhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDsYzcZuaLg
>>3874193Necrosaro was way cooler than any previous final boss in this series even if the fight itself was nothing special. I'm finally on 5 but I think I'm gonna keep going with the PS2 version. At the castle now, it's spooky.>>3875960There are better uploads I think, I just grabbed the first links I saw.
forgot about this thread lol, but I've still been playing DQV. the area around kabochi is a fantastic grinding spot since the inn is only 12G.
Meanwhile, just got through a timeskip
>>3878290I love the ps2 version and its orchestral osthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USlwK2QHz_0
aw hell yeah, now we're fucking gaming
>>3874174>snes versiongood>no speedupgood>no save stategood, although you wont need either. Games incredible.
Dragon Quest combat may look simplistic, but it is deceptively deep.
>>3874174I’m trying to get into these games starting at DQ11S but I just don’t jive with the combat, seems like you pick your entire teams actions and then they just play out? Seems more akin to RTS combat than turn based. Do my guys learn more moves than slash, dodge, and magic? Am I just not giving this game the benefit of the doubt and the combat opens up if I put more time in?
>>3879031DQ11S is the game in the series where that isn't the case, (unless you're playing in 2D mode). Actions are act on command when playing in 3D.I would say the combat does become more complex and is fun. If you play with stronger monsters and don't overlevel the bosses and the like encourage using statuses/buffs/debuffs, swapping out equipment and characters, and trying different approaches with skills. But it is ultimately turn based combat where it's possible to level grind your way to victory.
>trying to progress the main story>talk to every villager, interact with all objectsnothing>talk to every villager again>re-visit previous villages looking for clues>try using various key items in creative ways>visit un-explored areas in overworld>run into several obvious roadblocks>visit oracle for some advicestill nothing>check fansite guide online>you need to talk to this one specific villager TWICE in a row>this is the only instance of such a requirement...I don't want to be spoon-fed the answers but these obtuse story blocks annoy the fuck out of me
>>3880102If you don't talk to every npc at least thrice in a row every time, even if they repeat their dialogue, you're ngmi in the genre.
>>3880108Most Dragon Quest NPCs don't have repeating dialogue.
Is just me or the wiki is not working proprerly?
>>3874174PS2+translation+hd texture pack is kino
these guys are fucking assholes
That was a pretty intimidating fight. Lost the tiger to a Devil attack+blazemore combo beforehand so I'm pretty surprised I didn't wind up at death's door at any point. Got good rolls, too. Only got buttfucked by a chain fire breath attack once.
