The whole game is about dysfunction and decay inflicting the land. Loghain, because of his trauma from the Orlesian occupation, is as much a part of the blight as the Archdemon itself. You are the one variable that can break through the sludge and get shit done. Whether for good or ill. But what happens after you leave the equation? Unless you make every 'correct' decision, the world state either returns to the status quo or worse.
Havent played the other, shit smeared parts of that franchise since the first one was already rather mediocre but isnt it so that by lore it doesnt fucking matter what you do or if you exist and (way) sooner than later Ferelden just ends up being the worlds trash can since all the blight stuff is at the end a divine intervention in a very slow biblical flood kind of way and there is no way around total destruction?

Having finally given DA2 a go again, I realize it's actually a pretty good game and I've been far too hard on it from remembering how terrible I thought it was when it first came out. The arcadey design of combat and combat areas is a little weird, but whatever, it still kind of works narratively.
