But it doesn't make sense for all the hundreds of other modern games that have the same vapid aesthetic. There is no sense or logic to anything in the game, creatures just exist randomly in whatever shape the designers could come up with. Even the outfits people wear are random leather vests and straps. There is no culture to it, it's just evocating a vaguely "artsty" aesthetic. Again this makes sense for this particular game, but it's basically an accident. So I guess the game's biggest strength visually in that it has excuses for its faults.

It's a solid game that's being hyped to hell and back for reasons I don't understand. It should have been lost in what has been a solid year for vidya but has developed a weird cult of game journos and influencers who put it at the top of the mountain, again I'm not sure why.

However it is a good first entry and hopefully they wont pull a cyber punk 2077 and deliver a godlike next title with all the money and investors they are pulling now.

my number 1 complaint with the game was their complete deadpan expressions while fighting, especially Maelle, she'd be screaming with the most neutral expression I've seen in a game since Andromeda- it was extremely distracting and NO I didn't care that there weren't minimaps especially since they included a fucking compass, YES I DID think Sciel's story was a bit too torturous and edgy and the way it was finally revealed was in a wooden-faced optional scene and YES I DID FORCE VERSO TO PLAY THE PIANO FOR ALL TIME FUCK YOU DESSENDRE FAMILY- DON'T TURN YOURSELVES INTO GODS IF YOU AREN'T PREPARED TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES FUCKING FROG FUCKS pretty fun game though

And then chroma, spilling the ink of enemies. Everything being an art or paint reference. Like the game is still great. They were just very heavy handed with the story ans references.

Parry/jump/dodge should've just reduced the damage you take, because right now I don't even bother healing if I miss too many times, I just skip turns to die and try again since there's no penalty for dying. Ends up feeling more like a Souls game than an RPG. Except without boss runbacks, which even if they existed, most enemies are extremely easy to avoid. Some I have to suspect only exist for grinding purposes because no one would ever need to fight them otherwise, except I'm in expert and haven't needed grinding yet, so even then it makes no sense. But then again, I'm still in act 1.
