idk it doesn't look bad at all but kind of weird, the environment looks too detailed and doesn't mesh well with the 2d sprites unlike the original
>>
It's not a demake at all, doomerdronebro.
>>
>>3887352
I'd like to play the PS1 version as I'd only ever played the psp one.
>>
>>3887352
Remake is great man don't listen to all the haters. Most remakes are fine, the main issue is the graphics not meshing well which I'll admit you notice it at first but once you're playing it's fine. Plus there are lots of QoL improvements in this so it's more of a seamless experience. It's worth it.

>soul vs soulless
>>
>>3887356
I agree. Should have just went with the hd-2d to keep it consistent. I still enjoyed it, but felt weird walking around the towns.
>>
ps1:
>better graphics
>better gameplay
>better VA
>better dungeon layouts
>better UI
remake:
>better mages (they still suck)
>has welch
>QOL that lets you skip playing the game
>shit balance no matter what difficulty you pick
>shitty low effort new content like fishing and raid fights that are just rematches of old bosses

hmm yeah tough choice
>>
>>3887437
psp is easily the worst version
>>
>>3887477
>new content like fishing
Remake wins.
>>
>>3887356
does remake remove the LONG magic animations? At some point i consider to remove celine from my party.
>>
>>3887486
The raid fights were also nice. I liked trying the highest difficulty on every raid boss.

Also PS1 has worse load times. I didn't think the gameplay, graphics, VA, UI, nor dungeon layouts were at all better, just different. I grew up with them too but I can still appreciate the difference. The game still plays the same with some QoL tweaks.

How does the QoL let you skip the game?
>>
>>3887494
I think you can skip them yes.
>>
>>3887587
>fast travel skips traveling
>EXP gain and autobattle mechanics skip grinding
>dumping all skills on you from the start skips skill progression
>leveling up KMs with skill points skips KM progression
>PA notifier skips natural discovery
>on screen enemies skips the danger of random encounter
>nu-cave of trials skips all of the tension and difficulty of the original one
Im sure theres a bunch more Im forgetting too
>>
>>3887597
Ah yeah I guess they did make it way easier in that regard. I still had fun with the remake, but it was so long since I played the original. I guess with everything being how it is today they knew they had to add those QoL or it might not sell well. The old grind is only in some of us. I remember playing Phantasy Star II when it originally came out. Now that was a fucking grind.
>>
>>3887352
never played the ps1 nor pc remake, i did like psp version of both 1 + 2.
>>
>>3887388
It's the same type of person who thinks the DQ remakes are woke censored slop because of shorts and a cross.
>>
>>3889530
All censorship of all form is evil and must be combatted for the sake of the species.
>>3887477
What about first departure r? I’ve never played Star Ocean and I’m trying to fill this PS4 I picked up with games.
>>3887478
See above. The PS4 version that adds back in a bunch of SNES stuff.
>>
>>3887352
I see the Remake lets you name the protag you chose. Is there voice acting that uses the default name? That annoyed me to no end in the Remake of the first game.
>>
>>3890193
>first departure r
I cant explain this one rationally but it just feels incredibly soulless compared to the snes game. they just throw the game into the so2 engine, but the game itself is a lot worse than so2 so youre literally just playing a shitty version of so2. the snes game has its own identity, and is one of the best looking 16 bit games of all time. the biggest (and only) real issue with the snes compared to the remake is that, youre forced to use the protagonist as the leader in battle. which is kind of a big deal. but if youre fine with that you should absolutely just play the snes rom instead.
>>
>>3890207
I guess, but there’s cut content and fixes in FDR. Since I haven’t played the series, it seems like it doesn’t matter and getting the cut content back in and the rushed shit fleshed out is practical. Since I need shit for my PS4, I’m satisfied playing it based on the original cast returning and using original artists to touch shit up. Also looks like they upped the difficulty a bit, but it’s still jrpg easy.

I think the cut content due to time constraints is the most important bit. SaGa Frontier had a similar issue.
>>
I swear this game lives rent free in my head. Finished it twice on ps1, played it on the psp and finally got it done and then the remake came out.

Just stop it. I can't (but will) play the same shit over and over again.
>>
>>3890910
its the same with me. except its more like Ive played it 4 different times on ps1, another 4 times on psp (looking back... I played this version way more than I should have) and a run on the remake. probably going to go back to ps1 for my next run, I still think its superior. Not like this with other games either, I dont have replay autism except for this game. sad thing is I barely even mix up the party members I use because I cant help using my favorites (dias, opera, precis, chisato)
>>
>>3891328
Yeah, Rena is my usual go to as well, and more often than not I take Bowman. I don't think I ever finished the game with Precis or Ashton in the party (I like space Indiana jones more than autistic barrel enjoyer).
>>
>>3887447
I agree, remake is very good. I think some of the qol made a few things like the cave of trials a bit too easy (i remember it being far more punishing before) but its otherwise good.

>>3887494
yeah, most magic does not pause the battle except for the very top tier spells, and the "cutscene/fmv" spells can all be skipped too

>>3887597
the fast travel was a welcome addition that I didnt realize I needed. autobattle is KINDA too strong though I agree. I dont think this iteration of the skill system is perfect but I dont think the original skill system was any better (holding SP until unlocking perserverence is lame). KM progression is a wash, I like this one but I see why the old version is good too. the PA notifiers is kind of nice because unlocking some characters is very obtuse unless you're observant and taking notes on every NPC and doing PAs right from the start of the game. I kind of dislike the flow of complete random battles in the original game because it takes away the tension of exploration which was huge to me for this game, so I'm happy with the system in place. i agree with the CoT stuff as stated.

anyway i had fun and platinumed it for the hell of it, ill probably go back and try it again at some point in the near future.
>>
I still dont know which version I want to play UGHHH
>>
>play the OG for the non nerfed chisato/nostalgia/better balance
>play the remake for the buffed celine, welch, and new content
as a waifufag I can not come to a conclusion. someone please tell me what I should do. Ive already played both versions already so nothing will be new.
>>
>>3891476
Precis and Ashton I always use because I liked them in blue sphere
>>
>>3892459
Was Precis as busted in the original as the remake? Because she's pretty objectively the stongest attacker outside of Welch's equally busted skill that needs a sausage fest party to reach its full potential.
>>
>>3895325
you just reminded me I need to play fucking blue sphere. as a huge so2 fag growing up that game was my white whale. is it good?
>>
>>3895355
precis is great in both versions but not the best in either. claude/chisato/dias/bowman are definitely all better than her in ps1. remake Im not as familiar with, only played once so far but its pretty agreed upon that ernest is the best.
>>
I really don't like that they made all skill sets to invest in available from the start. It breaks the game completely when you can max out the ones that give increased XP and SP out the gate and use combat skills the game wasn't made expecting you to have.
>>
>>3887447
>remake is fine
Did it really leave the 'Crawd has advanced forward' type voice lines? If not it's shit.

>>3887447
Most remakes are fucking terrible because they make the games easier to the point of triviality. Then retards complain even more about how boring the gameplay parts are.

>>3887477
Mages are better in the original and basically required to 'beat the game'. I'm under the impression they are useless for this in the remake so I'm not even sure how you would go about it.

>>3887597
Yeah all of that sounds fucking awful.

>>3889530
This is strawman nonsense. There are no fucking 'hot' sprites in a fucking 16x16 pixel NES character. DQ remakes are shit because you get 4x as much xp as the original or other nonsense like visible encounters; which is remarkably retarded when metal slimes are a thing. Difficulty leveling forces you to try to beat things while weaker. You can level to 30 in the first game but that is completely insane compared to doing it at 20 where every battle in the last dungeon could kill you.
>>
>>3895491
"crawd has advanced forward" is gone in demake, youre stuck with the tranny psp VA or moonspeak.
>>
>>3895491
>mages are better in og
>required to beat the game
um what? did you even play it? rena is the only useful mage because shes the only good healer, and even she isnt needed if you have opera, who will heal just as well AND put out serious damage. every other mage has awful damage AND awful support. they do significantly more damage in the remake but are still much worse than fighters.
>>
>>3895494
Mages can completely negate enemy casters like unlimited Indalecio.
