It's been out for almost 20 years, I don't know exactly what more can be said about this game but how do you anons feel about it now?
I’m retarded, it’s been 15 years. Still a long time. But still wondering how people’s thoughts about this game have changed, whether its imact was good or bad or not, and what they’d like to see going forward
Why the fuck do you guys always use this same screenshot? This has to be like the fifth or sixth time I’ve seen a thread use this same image.
>>3888722it's the "aw shit here we go again" image
>>3888719The later versions of the game (special edition I think) ruined the colour palette. The original game felt chilly, like actual scandinavian weather. The botched version shown in this screenshot looks very warm, temperate climate. The nighttime was also screwed up, given a bluish cast instead of actually being dark.
>>3888719great now I am going to have to download this shit and waste 6 hours getting a modlist to work again.THANK YOU GUYS REAL FUN
>>3888731True. I played just for the lulz the OG Skyrim (withoud mods) this year. And the color palette and atmosphere is completely different compared to all the weather mods or the SE/AE.I even prefer the vanilla OG now when it comes to visuals.
>>3888735
>>3888736
>>3888731>The original game felt chilly, like actual scandinavian weather.Have you been to scandinavia?
>>3888738Instead of dunmers with fireballs you have to deal with muslims and grenades.
>>3888737I remember distinctly how much the colours changed between legendary and special edition.
>>3888742If you get sick or want an education in America you have to become an indentured servant for the rest of your life.
>>3888719I played it when it first came out and thought it was one of the most boring things ever. Then got a wicked bad flu last year and spent a couple weeks in bed just wandering around collecting herbs and becoming an alchemist while summoning skeletons to kill everything for me. Was some decent fun while incapacitated.
>>3888719>I don't know exactly what more can be said about this game but how do you anons feel about it now? It's shit without an entire overhaul like Requiem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjXbeOnMW6M
>>3888719I love put mods to turn it into a hiking/wilderness survival experience
>>3888719I liked Skyrim a lot, but between SE, all the updates, and a new computer I can't be assed to get my mods back up and running. It's a shame, really.
>>3888732the Mad God overhaul is a one fix solution. 2000 mods in one, no fucking about
>>3888719I played Oblivion remaster right after Skyrim and its such a depressing and boring game. the character are dull, the locations are all the same, its too realistic for its own good its like visiting Norway in real life.Oblivion and Morrowind blow it away when it comes to characters, dialog, and locations.
10/10 open gaming experience.Real, “get lost in the world and explore”The gameplay is real shit. Combat sucks and magic sucks. I unironically have zero problem modding the game so I just on shot stuff and I can explore freely.
>>3890350>10/10 open gaming experience.>Real, “get lost in the world and explore”100% agreed>Combat sucks and magic sucks.Eh, kinda. Sucks enough to "just be there" but not so much to make me not wanna play. Might install it again. Any combat overhaul mods you'd recommend?
>>3888719I've never played it. I didn't like Oblivion, and it looks like more of the same.
>>3890410The best combat mod for Skyrim is to just install and play Dragon's Dogma 2.I'm dead serious. You don't have to make do with shitty old games just because they were the only ones that did that thing in those days. It's been a while. Skyrim is just shitty compared to modern game standards, and there are just flat out better games for that kind of thing nowadays. Like Dragon's Dogma 2.Also, neither Skyrim nor Dragon's Dogma 2 are RPGs so this entire thread should be moved out of this board.
>>3890571Does DD2 have >>3890350>10/10 open gaming experience.>Real, “get lost in the world and explore”?Because that's what hits the spot with Skyrim for me. Very few games came even close to that.
>>3890704don't listen to that anon. Dragon's Dogma is like if you had an AI try to recreate skyrim. it's completely soulless and lacks all of the quirks that define skyrim.
>>3890410It would have been better if it played like Oblivion or Morrowind. You can tell Skyrim was watered down.
>>3890776I can’t speak for dd2 but dd1 is extremely sovlfvl. Highly recommend it.
>>3888719I think it's a good game but it hasn't aged as well. There's so many more fantasy open world games now whereas back then it was more of a novelty. I also think Oblivion was a better game or at least that's how I remember it, I haven't recently replayed it. And as far as novelty goes Oblivion was even more novel back in 2006, nothing even close existed. But another problem I have with open world games in general and the reason why I don't rank TES as highly is that they take so much time but 90% of that time is slop, either generic sidequests or grinding/optimizing equipment. I much prefer a streamlined linear experience with high productions and a good story.
>>3890889>I much prefer a streamlined linear experience with high productions and a good story. That's why you go to different games looking for different things. But that's just me stating the painfully obvious.Skyrim was never about a solidly written story and much less about a streamlined experience.Skyrim's forte is wanderlust and all the stuff you can do in game. Going at yoir own pace and deciding what gaming experience you want.As such, there's not a single mechanic that is outstanding or better than what you can find in other games, but it's the combination of everything the game has to offer that, still to this day, makes it stand out from its competition.Skyrim haters don't want to admit it, but it has been the game to beat, the meassuring stick to which all other sandbox rpgs had to compare since its release to this day.I don't think anyone, including Bethesda, really can pinpoint exactly what made Skyrim click so much among so many players and all the attemps to replicate it so far have fell short. Of course tgat's not to say there hasn't been games as good or even better than Skyrim, but it has that "it" factor that no other game really managed to get.
I think I want to be a youtube video game analyst. I'm going to make a video on skyrim. Would you watch it?
>>3888719Skyrim is my #3 rpg after Xenogears and FF7. It's awesome.
>>3888719I’m raging, right now, literally
>>3891873Shouldn't've taken that level in Barbarian
>>3891876SEEN ANY ELVES?
>>3891877>filename uses a Dunmeri insult>but not the n('wah)-wordWhat did he mean by this
>>3891882I already used that filename
>>3891882I have this one too
>>3891882Who could forget this one, of course
>>3891886>what's that, foreigner?>you want me to name you Nerevarine?>fine, go kill this vampire>oh, you've done that already?>I forgot to mention you also need to find me a cute Dunmer wife with a fat ass, then I'll call you whatever you want>oh, have this fine shirt I'm not using anymoreThat one tribe leader is based beyond belief. He really was my n'wah
>>3891883Kek, nice.Though this one should really be Ralen Hlaalo because you can use his corpse for infinite storage
>>3891891Dunmer are a joke. All it takes to be the hero of prophecy is buying a big assed slave and giving an old fag a kiss on the cheek
>>3891897>t. burned at the stake by Ordinators
>>3888719I like whipping up worldspaces for it with World Machine+TESAnnwyn and running through them like a retard.
>>3891885>department-approved necromancer restraint position
>>3891766>Would you watch it?What would you talk about Skyrim that hasn't been talked to death a million times at this point? What's gonna be your novel spin on it?
Jarl Igrod is actually trying to kill as many of the nordic natives of Morthal as possible, for them being better genetic nords than her family is (blonde hair, blue eyes, instead of her family's black hair, and brown eyes), and that they will be supporting the stormcloaks (that pretty much canon for most players). She have visions, she definitely seen the vampires scheming in her town, the one dwelling in a cave nearby for all her lifetime, the ones gradually taking over the citizens, and the one that burned two to death. Jard Igrod brought in a redguard conjurer with no loyalties to the town, Falion, in case one of her relatives would get infected by vampirism, and let him desecrate the nearby graves, plus gave him a nord orphan girl to sexually abuse. When Falion was caught by the dragonborn, doing rituals above a nearby ruin, Jarl Igrod just pretended to scold him, for appearances, and actually did nothing about punishing him, nor will she send any guards for the protection of the ruin. Jarl Igrod pretended to play dumb in front of the dragonborn, and when the dragonborn's investigation got far enough, she only sent poorly armed, mostly unarmored, and mostly untrained townspeople to fight a master vampire, surrounded by skilled coven, and a bunch of armed thralls, she was hoping that those nordic townsfolk would die, or at least many of them would. Jarl Igrod Ravencrone is a villain, and too bad there is not game option to butcher her entire family, and kill Falion too.
>>3892007>Jarl Idgrod*
>>3888719Garbage, have zero interest in playing it again. Some things are cool, like slinging dual fireballs everywhere, but everything else is pretty bad. I would just assume play Morrowind again.
>>3888719It is a good game, but bethesda went really overboard to make it shallow and simplified it too much compared to Oblivion. Map and world were very well designed and populated but i wish the map was larger.Sadly if Oblivion made them realize they can get money with dlcs, Skyrim made them realize they can try to monetize modding. It looks like their business plan was to follow ubisoft/ea model. Have a single type of game as a platform, have 3 different settings (TES for medieval fantasy, Fallout for modern, and Starfield for sci-fi), update them once every few years and skim money from mod downloads.
>>3891899Ordinators chase me screeching and crying because I wear one of their fag masks and there's nothing they can do to stop me
>>3892381>Have a single type of game as a platform, have 3 different settings (TES for medieval fantasy, Fallout for modern, and Starfield for sci-fi)That's not a bad idea. Moreso coming from a company that only knows how to make one type of game. But they forgot that the games had to actually be good.
>>3892399Yeah, the failure of it and a good reception of Oblivion remaster gives me some hope for next tes.
>>3888731>>3888735the thing about the color is that it was rationed very carefully in the OG release2011 was right in the middle of generic grey/brown milshooter era, so on release all of us were all clowning on it for looking like a cowadoody. but the point is that its grey and brown and dreary, right up until the moment that it suddenly isnt. then itll quickly change to become very colorful. that can happen either from changing climates/regions, or most often, sunset/sunrise and auroras. then pair that with the OST. its certainly an iconic part of the game.and yea, they definitely ruined that part in the rereleases
>>3888791>Was some decent fun while incapacitated.thats the thingas a TES game, it was a clear step backwards in a lot of wayswhat it IS, though, is a very relaxing and easy game to play. the OST does a tremendous amount of heavy-lifting in this regard. they rly are screwed if they dont get soule back imo
>>3888719It's good
>>3896385It’s OP bumping his thread from page 10
>>3888719Good game good childhood nice memories still didn't play it with mods though :D
I don't get how people can keep playing it. I got bored of it by 2012. I've never understood the mod obsession either. Mods can't fix whats wrong
>>3897178It’s like Morrowind, fun to pick up again every 5 years or so. I can’t imagine playing it continually.
>>3897183I disagree
>>3896390Many such cases.
>>3897178>Mods can't fix whats wrongyou right, but from the wrong perspective. mods don't fix games; mods make a game better at what it already does.
>>3888732I have the install folder zipped up with all my mods. Yes I keep all my mods in the Data folder, no I've never had an issue in my 540 hour playthrough.
>>3897244yeah, the whole keeping your data folder "clean" is really a non-issue. 700+ mods, numerous paly-thoughs over the past decade, and i've never had a problem with the game install folder. 100% of the time the problems is just a mod conflict.
>>3888719i played Skyrim for the first time yesterday on a SteamDeck. Did one dungeon after arriving in beginner village for some golden claw. I basically walk until i see red dots on my compass. I bonk them with my 2handed sledgehammer. I loot whatever is highest value (and basically overemcumbered half the time), walk back to beginner village to see my items. Is this basically the loop as I progress through the game?
>>3897568do you roleplay or immerse yourself at all? or is your mind just blank while you play?
>>3897570there isn't much to immerse other than being a bonking fugitive for whatever reason. I had much more fun in Morrowind and Oblivion somehow.
>>3897570Skyrim doesn't leave much room for role play at all.
>>3888719it's pretty great, what else can be said about it unless developers reveal long hidden secrets, that no player found yet
>>3888719Carried extremely hard by it's map, graphics and the atmosphere they create. Vanilla SE still looks absolutely gorgeous. Gameplay loop is extremely repetitive and it definitely could have used more focus during development - less copy pasted dungeons, more fun little quests and storylines.Handling progression through smithing is atrocious game design and I will die on that hill any day. There is a reason why every other RPG and MMO handles weapon and armor upgrades through blacksmith NPCs.Finishing a playthrough is becoming more of a slog with each passing year but it's still a shit ton of fun to just hop in and fuck around for a week.
>>3888787Education is uselessAnd the sickness part is based since it is eugenic to let the sick die
>>3888719It was alright. Some of the questlines are completely atrocious like the thief guild. It's not as retarded or nitwit-pandering as Oblivion. Lots of jank stuff they obviously couldn't get to a high standard and just papered over to hide the unfixable faults like the civil war stuff. The setting writing was way better than I would have expected and the high water mark of the post-Oblivion Bethesda era. I honestly didn't mod it that much beyond QoL stuff like menus.
>>3888719>2011 OMG this is awesome>2025 OMG why the fuck is this primitive set of gameplayloops more fun than literally billions of dollars flushed down the toiletThis is the summary of what most people feel…
>>3897568Much of it, yes, but the gold/weight ratio of what you are willing to pick up increases, and visits to merchants get less frequent (also you'll probably get a companion to haul half your stuff, and might get speech perk so you can sell any type of loot at any merchant). You'll never lose out on anything because of lack of gold, and you can buy, and furnish houses at your own pace. Also picking up alchemy ingredients, and making expensive potions to sell, make most other sort of loot redundant, because potions get up to hundreds, if not a few thousand gold/weight unit. You won't care about using up thousands of gold worth of potions in a fight either, because you made those potions from common respawning ingredients.
>>3897568You also get to pick up crafting materials, craft stuff, level up your kills all around, get better equipment. There are various quests and questlines that are more or less interesting. And you do it in a massive world with different biomes, dungeons that all have their own unique twist and story and are in one of several styles (with some overlap). I most enjoy the exploration of that world. And with mods (not sure steamdeck has those) you can massively expand your gameplay.
