>always wanted to get into PSO>filterd because the games were designed with group-play in mind (and you have no friends....And you hate playing games with other people)>most of the communities for said games are dead, tooAre any of the PSO games fun solo? PSOPortable, PSOZero?
>>3891155>most of the communities for said games are deadYou're having a giraffe aren't you. Ephinea has HUNDREDS of players daily, and right now (after this bloody maintenance kickstarting the winter event) is the best time TO make friends and play with the community.
I played 0 solo when I was 14. I had fun.
>>3891155I'll play with you. This is my character. Been playing since the Dreamcast launch, and yes, it's very fun with a group. We can team up and I can give you some good gear too.
>>3891155>Are any of the PSO games fun solo?Zero and Portable 2 Infinity have tons of single-player content (especially Infinity), but PSO1 is still fun even if you are playing alone (EP1&2+'s offline mode, Blue Burst's single-player mode).
>>3891185>and I can give you some good gear too.Why do you think that would be fun for someone just getting into the game? That's lame
>>3891155I did the story solo on a local server and enjoyed it well enough, but getting my one singular friend to play with me on Ephinea and actually reaching Ult certainly felt closer to the "real" experience. If you're friendless and don't mind playing with literal whos you can just go there. I mean you could also play solo there as well, I just did it locally because I wanted to keep the save forever, but it turns out Ephinea offers save export anyway.PS0 is somewhere between PSO and PSU. Fun enough, nice art style, but quite limited in terms of controls.PSP(2(i)) are PSU spin-offs, so you won't get PSO out of it, but PSP2i is absolutely great, and you should play it regardless. If you want to experience PSU as well, there's Clementine, but it's probably deader than Ephinea. Always good to have at least one person you can continuously play with.PSNova to PSO2 is, unfortunately, NOT what PSP is to PSU. It's more distinct on purpose. So if you ever want to experience classic PSO2, you're shit outta luck, because there's no trace of it left in the original game after EP4~NGS. Nova is still worth playing, though the music sucks. There's a translation patch floating around, you might have to join the PSO2 d*scord to get the latest version.
>>3891155I played it solo on my modded Wii and had a lot of fun. This ain't a fucking fighting game.
>>3891164I want to play MMOs because I want to explore a big, living world for a long time. Forced interaction sucks ass every single time.
>>3891155>game clearly focused toward multiplayer>hate playing with other people>still want to play itJust play something else. You are literally the most annoying cancer infested type of normalfaggot I have ever encountered. Pic very related. Why are you trying to get into things that don’t interest you? Because it looks cool? Most of the mechanics of this game are boring solo because of the emphasis in teamwork especially if you play the mage class. This is exactly why every modern mmorpg is a boring linear run from cutscene to cutscene “story” with all the classes being a generic dps.>>3891934Pso, especially BB is not an mmo and it does not have a “large world to explore”. Its a lobby based multiplayer game you brain damaged zoomers just like to latch the word mmo to anything with online features.
>>3892080I truly cannot fathom wanting to play an MMORPG without the MMO part. It's inherently a multiplayer genre. There's no "there" there without other players.
>>3891934I truly wish every single one of you ass holes would disappear forever. The mmo genre has been ruined forever because of subhumans like you.
>>3891155>be some faggot that enjoys single player rpgs>see old mmo game>see that it has really cool and interesting class design and combat>decide that you want to play it alone, like if it was tales of the abyss or something>multibox it>eventually wow gets created to cater exactly to these type of people except now normalfaggots are flocking into it too>the modern mmo gamer suddenly becomes people looking for an epic “story” in an mmo>old mmos like ffxi add ai companions so you can truly have your “single player mmo adventure”Wow and ffxiv ruined an entire genre forever. It sounds so clownish and completely nonsensical that maybe 20 years ago thats exactly what the mainstream videogame audience would think of such a thing. But looking at this thread OP now you can truly see just how much videogames have degraded.
>>3892087>be me>play MUD>get addicted>learn lesson>never play UO>never play EQ>never play WoW>etcFeels good man
>>3892081 >>3892083I recently played FF14 and got burned out, and I can say that I never seemed to party up with anyone outside of instanced dungeons or if a rare boss mob like Odin or Tamamo showed up. Though instancing and matching are amazing for progress, every single relationship is ephemeral and I had probably 8 people on my friendlist by the time I got to the third expansion.I got more guild invites than I got friend requests, unfortunately for them I don't do guilds.
>>3892253>>3892253Read this post>>3892087FFXIV is quite literally one of the major reasons why the MMO genre now caters to single player fags. The only thing WoW did was attract normies to the genre. When FFXIV failed by trying to be FFXI-2 (not because of the game but because of project mismanagement) Yoshida came in and turned it into a wowclone with ffskin which promptly saved it at the cost of it being a good mmo. It wasn’t that bad at first and still enjoyable though the quest-based progression was extremely apparent as was the complete lack of team synergy in party based play. The game got progressively worse as it catered more and more to people that applauded its “story”, jobs kept getting abilities culled in an effort to make them simpler and easier to play and eventually it all culminated in SHB expansion which was the string that broke the camels back. That expansion was the absolute worse gameplay wise and it only got worse from there but the story was good enough to impress midwits and call it the greatest FF story ever told.
>>3892253FFXIV post-Yoshida and FFXI pre-abyssea are very very different games to what FFXI was during the 75-cap era it shows the distinction between modern and classic mmos very clearly.Classic mmos like everquest and ffxi focus primarily in party based progression. Modern MMOs instead focus more on letting you solo mostly everything while having a quest-based progression, adding any meaningful multiplayer content at the end of the quest chain that takes you to max level, essentially being an entry bar into gameplay.Another difference between classic mmos and modern mmos is the class design itself. Classic mmos focused a lot on people actually working together and combat design usually worked around that like skillchains and magic bursts in ffxi for example and having roles focused on pure support like a bard. Modern MMOs are either a rigid holy trinity like FFXIV and extremely dps-coded or every class is just dps with different visual or hitbox flavors. Infact even FFXIV is kind of like this as healers have to dps and neither healers or tanks use their supportive buttons much, especially healers, casting cure on white mage generally means your party fucked up in that game. Combat design also tends to be more pattern like and different flavors of dodge the circle in the ground instead of being reactive which reduces the healer or support role further. In short, you’re bot getting a really good impression of the social aspect in modern mmos. I recommend playing on a private server of FFXI to get that sort of experience, preferably a populated one, and also prepare yourself to get frustrated as its not going to be easy to progress at first due to the huge barrier of entry and the lack of party invites around level 10
>>3891155>the games were designed with group-play in mindyou can play through each and every single episode on all difficulties solo, skill skissue issue
>>3892080it is an mmo, your pedantic arbitrary subjective opinion is irrelevant to the actual definition of an mmo, seethe cope and dilate, retard
>>3892680Its not a pedantic opinion at all it is a fact and you are just a fucking idiot for thinking that this is a “large world to explore”. Actual fucking idiocy
>>3891845Just trying to be nice, that's all. I see now we wouldn't mesh well anyway, so nevermind.
PSO wasn't that good (at least, it hasn't aged very well) but its art was amazing.
