Baten Kaitos
>>3891929BRING BACK MY SAVE YOU FUCKING KEKS
>>3891982Fuck, you scared meI feel that though I'm not sure I can commit myself to another playthrough its quite the binding journey Did steam screw your save or you lost your memory card?
>>3891983They did a small update patch on the Steam HD version to fix "security issues" over a year after the game released and it deleted a lot of peoples' saves. I was 10 hours into the game (did up to the fishing hamlet town being invaded and about to enter the capital area) and all of my multiple saves right back to the first forest area got deleted.
>>3891985Damn that's rough my condolences, glad I myself didn't buy it earlier thenSeems like quite the oversight
>>3891988It's sad and their loss because I was actually enjoying the game. From comments I've seen it seems like one of those games that filters people with the unique combat mechanics with people clogging their decks with useless cards then complaining about RNG
>>3891989Yeah a lot of people can't wrap their heads around it properly not incredibly hard to make a solid deck with the right combos and once you understand the number system it gets a good deal easier from thereThat's unfortunate to hear though I hope you can give the game a chance again one day but can't really blame you
>>3891991Maybe in the future I will. I'm a big fan of the Xeno games and like the atmosphere of this type of game (2000s melancholy) so I'd been looking forward to playing it but it's too fresh in my mind at the moment to replay 10 hours of content
>>3891994Again fair enough but I'm with you there haven't tried the Xeno series myself but heard the writing and whanot is all over the place, sounds painful to bear with not that this game has mastergrade dialogue or anything but it can be fairly good at timesI greatly enjoy the world in this game it was well thought out and the premise of living in the sky on floating islands was always pretty neat to meAll the civilizations originating from tribal groups after the cataclysm was pretty cool too, the fact they went out of their way to make the cards integral in universe was a very nice touch as well
Also gonna post my favorite trackhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jjrl5oYwgM
>>3891998>haven't tried the Xeno series myself but heard the writing and whanot is all over the placeDon't know who told you that but the writing is generally good in Xeno games. Probably some elitist or FF faggot. Xenoblade 2 is somewhat of an homage to this game with it all taking place on a Cloud Sea on top of titans, one of which is a giant whale.
>>3892014You might be right then they do hate on everything possible to distract from their floundering trash heap I'll take a more informed opinion on that series from and enjoyer, appreciate itWill definitely get around to giving them a wack myself then thank you friend
>>3891929great game, gibari is the man
IT'S UNTHINKABLETO ACT A-GAINST THE EMP-IREfuck they really ruined the opening with the remaster huh
>>3892102He is indeed THE manA truly selfless heroAlso fuck Kalas
>>3892106Is it all in in japanese? if so that's a little depressing.. like sure the dub audio is bad in game but there its really good I should fire it up and torture myself I deserve this
>>3892111so the remaster uses the Japanese audio - which strangely enough for the intro was always in English. It sounds kinda fuckedWhen the game was originally released in the west they then redid the opening using the actual English voice actors.Compare the two https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApPwp5HkMwghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfaSoGrpitU
>>3892121>MarpechroWHAT THE FUCK
>>3892121whoever voiced the witch really did a killer job in the NA version. It does a lot for itThe Jap version sounds like it was done by highschoolers lmao
Muh wangtesting
>>3892219Man might have to stop using 4chanx for a bit because of this
>>3891929the better wakka
>>3892111I really liked Toriumi as Kalas
>>3892235Never made that connection he totally is though>>3892250Can't wait to play it in the sub got around to it been through the english og so many time's it'll be a nice change from the tin can audio desu
>>3892259*haven't got aroundTook me that long to notice this errorI need to lie down
>>3892109He just wants to sail his boat and fish but everybody keeps yanking him back into their bullshit because they can't take care of themselves. Also he's 34 but looks 50.He turned out to be the literally me character for a generation after all.
>>3892566I need to go through fanart again one of these days my folders got all screwed up in a recent pc transfer and lost most of my shots and Gabari art
Test
>>3891929Yes Gibari, this IS the Earth.>>3891989>>3891991Huh. BK Origins being annoying I totally get, but I felt like you figured out what the first game's deck building wanted of you after a while in terms of proportions of card types. But I haven't played it in well over a decade so maybe I'm biased by hindsight.>>3892008I was humming this while typing this post, dang you. That Ruler of the Nine Skies followed the same flow was pretty cool too.
>>3892938
I always give the permanent stat increase camp magnuses to my boy Lyude
>>3892942He was a kind but naive young lad
>>3892939I appreciate the art posts friend these are very nice
I always found it funny how she's all guilty and remorseful about her past as an emprire soilder or whatever but in battle she's always like>Say hello to lady death >:)>>3892008for me it's>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_5bliJXOJYsuch an epic build up to such an uneventful area of the game
>When you buy Origins at a Gamestop a ways away but the cashier accidentally gave you Eternal Wings (which you already had) and you don't realize it until you're back homeOh that takes me back. Very easy mistake, I had a good laugh.>>3893008Town music time. This game had what, seven towns? No wonder Sakuraba could mix it up so much.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9kdz5P9XrI&list=RDx9kdz5P9XrI&start_radio=1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWbhB1iMjB0&list=RDhWbhB1iMjB0&start_radio=1>The ending them comes on nextOkay one morehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XARPxxfAeUc&list=RDhWbhB1iMjB0&index=3
>>3893022So they handed you a gamecube game? How does that even happen?comfy choices btw
>>3893044Oh wait you said Origins thought you meant that you asked for the remaster my reading comprehension is not the best currently might need to call it early tonight
>>3893008>Say hello to lady death >:)May as well use the body count to try and psych out people so they might stop fighting. Or to psych herself up.No not that kind of body count.
>>3893063I love her design she just looks so sleek and deadly
>>3891929Goddamn I love baten kaitos so much it was such a nice capstone to the "prerendered background" era of Jrpgs. I really could go on and on gushing about how much I loved these 2 games. Sixth Gen was such a sweet spot for graphics where you could make a beautiful 3d Game but development wasn't so prohibitively expensive that you couldn't innovate or try something new.
>>3892106The opening of baten kaitos origins was always in English. It sounds just like that in the jap release too. They actually have different voice actors for the opening movie than for the actual game in the original dubbed release. Both sets of actors suck.
>>3892109Fuck you. Kalas and sagi are two of the best protagonists in any rpg. Both are very strong, likeable, and compelling characters despite being very different from one another. It made baten kaitos interesting to have two characters with similar life experiences, getting fucked over by the empire, yet seeing how they choose to handle them in completely different ways.
>>3893117I will never forgive Kalas for his weakness! He is a great Progtag though his dual nature gives him depth
>>3892967One of the things I love about baten kaitos is it's a how I met your mother story for the villain of the first game. Very interesting approach to writing a prequel
>>3893118>He is a great Progtag though his dual nature gives him depthNot to mention it makes for a great romance I love xehla and kalas' relationship and how she never gives up on him.I wish for the baten kaitos remake that they did a sort of "thousand year dream" type thing for kalas where you could unlock memories from his youth with Georg and fee. If written well they could better contextualize his pain, sorrow, and rage which fuels his revenge quest. It wouldn't have been all that expensive to do you just need some basic visual effects and a good writer. And I think it would add more to the story. As is you see what Giacomo does to his village but since you don't get to see many of the happy times kalas has with fee you don't quite feel it.
>>3893116anon read the thread before posting
>>3893123I tend to post as I go instead of reading the whole thread. It's more fun that way
>>3893126Not in my thread you don'tGet cursed nerd
>>3893129Lol!
>>3893119Melodia always gave me a sense of uneasy speaking with her they did very well with her character
>>3893146Well she's basically Satan's great great great great great granddaughter lmao
>>3893157Y-you're a liar! she is a pretty princess who can do no wrong! she dindu nuffin!
>>3893160Ahahaha
>>3893162This is no laughing matter! Also I finally finished cropping all the portrait rips I had
love this game bros, the combat's so fun and the story was pretty damn cool, just gotta give the game a fair shot and not drop it in a few hours when you hear the VA or see your cards change. the combo system keeps the combat dynamic even when it's just trash mobswhen kalas turned out to be evil/betray the group I had to kneel, didn't expect them to use the fact that (You)'re a separate entity like that, great moment
>>3893623It still boggles my mind to this dayHonestly its a mystery why nobody else has tried to pull it off and yeah the combat is one of a kind to this day
>>3892963I play the trumpet in real life so I was pleasantly surprised to see his arsenal of magnus. He became my favorite character because of it.
>>3894063That's actually pretty neat anon and lucky for you I did actually do some art browsing and tumblr seems to have loved your boyI personally would have liked there to have been a violist or violinists, played those in the past myself before receiving a grisly thumb injury that prevents me from doing so nowadays
>>3894071Thanks for posting more art. A violist would've been really cool too, I wonder how it would work as a weapon. The only thing I can think of is how Kanaria uses it.
There's always the Devil that troupe never fails
>>3894244>>3894260Whoops, completely forgot to click your post
FEELING GAAAAAAAAYYYYYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B64f48ewdo

>>3894333Love the world map it's like walking on a beautiful painting.
>>3894333Also check'd and sounds great
>>3894450The world maps are great reminds me of a bit of Legends of Dragoon>>3894451Nice I didn't even notice
>>3892250underrated VA
I also have rips of every mangus in the game just let me know which ones you desire
>>3894616I desire Glint Cornet please
>>3895118Done
>>3895125Thanks
>>3895152Not a problem my pleasure wish they were a bit bigger images, didn't realize they were so small maybe I can look around for some better rips eventually or something
>>3894616can i get uhhhhhhh bloody vortex
>>3895306Here go pal, don't poke your eye out with this okay?
>>3895313楽勝 thank you senpai
void phantom and bloody vortex gotta be some of the coolest weapon names ever man. frozen soul is pretty cool too.
>>3895402Yeah lots of cool names in this gameI enjoy them very much
>>3895673deadly heat scythe and hellblood's hammer have disproportionately uncool animations for how cool their names are
>>3896952I still think of the shmup section when you enter the world all these years later because it took me a few tries. And that mirror dungeon was cool.
>>3896970You reminded me of that 8 bit section I cant find any videos on it though my memory is getting too hazy
Merry X-mas or whatever
>>3897223https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MBfAFx3uUQ
>>3897602Oh shit yeah thats the section thanks very muchTracked down the rip in my folder
>>3897633Yep. It's Tower of Druaga, btw
>>3897633>>3897703what happens when the time runs out?
>>3897706You die
>>3891929abdul>>3891983christina mckenzie
>>3897755You're blowin my mind right now anon
Remaster or Emulate?
>>3898387You pretty much lose out on the dub with the remaster for eternal wings, I've heard theres a mod floating around for it but it has audio desync issues so up to you really
>>3898387emulate, the remaster is censored and bad
Not been getting good sleep lately need to work on that feel half dead
WHIIIIIIIRRRR
>>3898459My endgame, depicted right here real life I mean
>>3902085Commendable goal my friendI'm stuck being Kalascoded myself
>>3898387Remaster.
>>3891929Reminding me I dropped Origins. It's hard to get into jrpgs as an adult.
>>3903941Yeah I'm honestly struggling to find time myself really want to run through the remaster but that's quite the task at this point
>>3903941I'm 27 and still love diving into jrpgs
>>3904377Well not to dwell on my pickiness, there was nothing specifically wrong with Origins. The story has a good amount of tension at the start. I got to the part where you return to your childhood village for help since we're on the run.
Decided to bed rot all dayfeelsbadman
Nearly forgot this thread is up still
Nearly a month old now lets see if I can keep this up
Bump
>>3908076Who dares bump me
reblys looks like wojak lol
>>390840510 seconds in krita
Bosses had some cool designs. And them later becoming normal enemies was even cooler.
>>3908549>blocks your path
>>3909891Not them. They already scarred me. But bosses like the first few being normal as early as Mizuti's world was rad. Even having their own overworld models of course.
>>3909921I remember most if not everything in the Labyrinth of Duhr being a pain in my ass
I think Eternal Wings might be the game I've spent the most time on in my entire life. I replay it at least once a year (sometimes two or three, rarely four) and have been doing this for the past 20 years. Each playthrough takes me an average of 120 hours. The card collecting and deck building autism keeps drawing me in, I can't believe I'm not bored of it yet. I love this game.
>>3911228This guy games
>>3911437My last run was 138 hours. 15 of those hours were spent getting Chronos Armor from Detourne. Those fuckers just did not want to drop, and I wanted 6 of them. I probably won't do that again next time, it was really killing my motivation.
>>3911881I respect the dedication very strong will you have thereAt least you didn't go mad over the pursuit of shampoo
>>3912027what if I just fill my inventory with chump change
>>3912030Kek actual madnessSomeone must stop you
i ran into a glitch in the nihal desert in the remastered version. it used two pristine waters when switching screens. it happened twice. never happened to me on the gamecube version before... this happen to anyone else?
>>3913301Haven't gotten to that part yet I'll try to pay attention when I do sounds very strange
>>3914486nice to know i wasn't the only one that had lyude as their dedicated picture taker, he gives off such photographer energy
when i was a wee kid my brother had a lot of import games as he was capable of reading japanese. baten kaitos was one of them, i remember booting it up, playing until the first 2 enemies in moonguile forest, then never doing anything more than that. shit was cashreplayed it twice over the years, getting further into the game every time but never beating it. replaying it yet again lately and this time i'm gonna beat it for sure, i'm even playing on my brother japanese copy of the game for good measure.even though it's not perfect this game is just so fucking good. shoutout to the character designs in particular, Nakaba Higurashi really did an amazing job, every part member is completely different and great to look at, especially Savyna who is my waifu.also got a japanese copy of origins which i'll probably play just after beating 1, however it's the buggy original edition so i'll have to document myself on the big bugs to avoid fuckiness.
>>3915128Very cool, quite the dedication you have thereI wish you luck its quite long but worth imo Going through Origins myself currently and it's a little strange the turn timers really threw me off
Anyone get this achievement legitimately? Apparently Lolo has one last letter I have never seen before in both gamecube and remaster versions.
>>3891929I liked this game but it was too easy, except for that one fight on the airshipalso the evolving cards gimmick was more annoying than anything elsehonestly I have a hundred complaints about this game but I still liked it enough to finish it
>>3919379For all it's flaws you can still tell there was heart put into it also understanding the deeper mechanisms of the cards makes the game much more approachable so that probably helped
yo dah mon baten kaitos mon
>>3921328Are you rocket power posting?Wow that brings me back
I'm thinking of skipping Origins for now to play Eternal Wings again
>>3915128update : i beat the gamepretty kino if i do say so myself. ending felt a bit bittersweet because it really feels like you're saying goodbye to friends (gibari my nigga)will probably start origins today
>>3923503Good stuff be warned though the combat shifts drastically in origins I'm still trying to bear with it myself
Are there other games (rpgs or not) that have a similar visual style to Baten Kaitos?
>>3925181Only ones that come to mind are Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey Would have to jog my memory a bit more to recalls others
>>3925741Thanks anon, I'll give them a look
