Look Outside is pretty neatLots of exploration, plenty of detailed spritesCombat is pretty basic (RPGmaker), so if that's your focus you might be disappointed
This is one of the few times where i actually like an RPG maker horror game. I just like a good old RPG, plus the unhindged art really sells it.Soundtrack is great too.
>>3892957It seems really reddit-y
Nah.
>>3892978yeah I only pay for AAA™ games
>>3892978do you ever get tired of spamming every rpgmaker thread with the same images over and over?
>>3892970Lmao if its not animeshit you people call it reddit-y.Must be a blacksoulsfaggot.
>>3892957Combat is the usual turn based, but there are status effects and different ability variations between characters, similar to Lisa the painful and Fear and Hunger.Which makes it already better than most of rpg maker games out there (or even jrpgs in general)
>>3892970Don't make me like reddit, you faggot.
>>3892993>Lmao if its not animeshit you people call it reddit-y.Ironic since one of the endings has you become an anime character who defeats the final boss.Shit like this, which disrespects both the tone of the game and the intelligence of the player, is why it's difficult to take the game seriously.
>>3893180...it's a secret joke ending. It's making fun of anime. It's making fun of you.You didn't even get it, did you? You looked it up on Youtube. You have no idea what it even is.
>>3893314>...it's a secret joke endingI'm aware, retard. The game already had a joke ending, it didn't need another one.
>>3893318What was it?
games with missable things makes me anxious
>>3893318>retardmaxxing on purpose
>>3892962I agree, have not yet played it but the art had me looking at it since before release. Reception seems good, and the OST was also nice from what I heard. I will get it at some point when I finish playing other stuff I'm already committed to.Horror + sick art like this needs to happen more. I can deal with basic EarthBound style combat and battle presentation when the monsters you fight are on par with EarthBound and Dragon Quest in their variety and weirdness... except better because there is the horror element.
So I just got this game and I've been playing it for a bit. It might just be that I don't like RPGs without a lot of guidance and structure, but are you supposed to basically just be wandering around and having no idea what to do? A lot of the monsters are tough especially with just me and I'm always losing health in fights. I also ended up spending like $100 at the start on soap and a medkit. I just feel like I have no idea what I'm doing or if I'm doing well or not. I'm on day 2 and just figured out I could get to the first floor by running past the eye monster, could not beat it. I don't want to just keep having to run past it every time while I wander around a huge maze.
>>3895342>play horror game>be shocked that it isn't immediately legiblethat's the entire point bro
>>3895343I've played horror games before, like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. I'm okay with some degree of wandering and danger. But it's much easier in those games to avoid enemies or to kill them without taking damage. You also don't have RPG mechanics that can allow you to do something like waste all of your money unless you do something totally retarded like just let yourself get hit to use up your health items or fire all your bullets into a wall.
>>3895342The game gets a lot easier once you gather a few party members, however it's not immediately obvious who you can recruit and how. A number of party members appear as a random door encounter when you're doing activities at home, so you can even just spend some time playing videogames and wait for someone to arrive.
>>3895360> just spend some time playing videogames and wait for someone to arrive.Tried this IRL. Still alone. =[
>>3895360Oh is that how most people play? That's actually kinda cool, who you get might affect your playthrough so there's always variety too. Maybe I'll do that then.
>>3895459It's definitely quite a replayable game. Something like a dozen recruitable characters, and many occasions of dialogue between them. A similar number of endings as well. I'm on my second playthrough now with a completely different party.
Man, wait until people who shill this game play an actual good game like Enchanted Farm.
>>3895521it's called Enchant Farm you dumb poseur
>>3895521Gatekeep games better, otherwise they end up in the toilet, like F&H and BS.
>>3895578>BSTotal dumpster I agree>FnHNope, this one is kino
>>3895459I usually start the game by playing Super Jumplad twice. Usually that's enough for a level up, and it puts you on better footing going forward. The crafting kit in Vincent's apt. is also pretty important. There's enough stuff for you to make some Molotovs, which provide some security as you wander around. If you save your first Simple Key you can spend it in the Tooth apt to get an Old Rifle, which you can use to make early bosses much easier.
Love this game. There are so many litte obscure things to discover. It's really suprising and the characters are charming.
>>3893180Yes cuz the jrpg power of friendship is so much better? Fuck off
>>3892996The game is good but every jrpg has that
>>3898812Point out where I mentioned that in my post.
>>3898839It's just a curious case of people selectively ignoring most JRPGs that exist and saying they like this one for abstract reasons they lack the inventory of concepts to describe beyond>"w-well uh, i just PERSONALLY like Look Outside because, um... b-because I JUST DO, OK!? GOD!"tl;dr - most people who claim to like this game don't actually like it for any good reason and simply fell for marketing bullshit that makes them believe for no meaningful reason that this game is something they should enjoy. Whether this be because they see other people "enjoying" it and want to be part of that "energy" or see the art style and feel like the game must "be something" because of that (the art style has nothing at all to do with the substance of a game), it's all smoke and mirrors.
>>3900693The great thing about having fun is that you don't need to write a thesis as to why
played this game last week and it was pretty fun, though I didn't like that the party members in your room didnt get updated dialogue for your progression, but understandable since that would be a lot of dialoguebut main gripe was jeanne not having more dialogue after her quest, was hoping I'd be able to invite her to at least play DnD with your party, or anything really, though I get she can't be a party member since she is kinda stuck in her room
>>3901162Did you return her laundry?
>>3901382of course, but I still kept checking in on her daily hoping she'd have more stuff, but nope, nothing
>>3901481The laundry dialogue is the last bit you'll get
>>3901799I still got one scene after that.
>>3901799>>3901876yes the last scene is the one where she shows her biker clothes, but I was expecting there to be moreI hope there is a content update that adds more content with her because she is one of the few sane individuals that is just theresame with the basement camp, thought they would have different dialogue depending of the day but not really (at least not every day, but maybe 3 different sets based on either you are on before day 5, day 10 and day 15)
>Got Sophie day one>Kept doing Game Skills waiting for her mom to show up>Only 2 days left>Has had the time to recruit Morton, do the entire Crossword Video Game + Crossword Puzzles, go down to the Crossword Catacombs and beat Aunty Wilhelmina von Kreutzwort, stupid ass and give Morton a cool ass spear>Sophie mom still never showed up.I get its RNG but I think it'd be nice if having certain party members weighted certain encounters. So having multiple games would attract Dan, keeping your plant watered attracts Hellen, having Sophie would attract her mom, etc.

>>3902981Yeah people retell an entire 500 pages book word-by-word all the time, copying the entire experienceis that really the best you can do? Give a compelling argument or fuck off
>>3902984>Yeah people retell an entire 500 pages book word-by-word all the time, copying the entire experienceUnironically, yes.>Give a compelling argument or fuck offTake your own advice.
>>3892957I bought it back when it was clearly an unfinished game after watching ManlyBadassHero's Let's Play but I didn't finish it. It's a pretty fun and interesting game from what I played, but I'd rather get the whole experience at once. I planned to play it again after 2.0 released, but from glancing at the developer Frankie's streams, he's still fixing bugs, so I'm going to keep waiting.
>>3903130I've played through twice and didn't run into any bugs I noticed
>>3903172I believe you, but I'm paranoid that Frankie might add another secret boss or something like that. Also things like pic related bug me a little.
>>3902932Nah, I just think the game isn't worth a single $, therefore I'll never give the Devs my money, with or without the piracy option.Making your game on rpgm is lazy and cheap, and if they don't give a fuck why should I.I'll never pay for rpgm games, period.
>>3895342You have objectives, an environment to explore, items to collect, enemies to kill, and mechanics to learn. Same as every RPG. That seems like enough guidance and structure to me.
>>3892957This game made me waidu a vending machine. Good rpg. Is it s golden masterpiece? No, but it's worth your time and money and it's memorable and it's funny, just a great experience overall>When you give the moth the flamethrower

>>3903130there are a few unfinished assets in the game, but when I did a few runs recently I never encountered any game ruining bugs. feel free to wait for any additional bug fixes so francis can fix the smaller ones, but you could play through the entire game as it is with little to no issue as it is
>>3904590I keep forgetting that the unfinished ones aren't a stylistic choice

ANOTHER fucking 5/10 PORN GAME that you stupid fucking gooners are just slurping up, huh?
>>3906643It's not a porn game you retard, but you already knew that

>>3906647What happens to them in the Promise ending? I remember Frankie saying on one of his devstreams that the gods still exist in Denial, they're just subdued. Apparently not all of them are massive either, just hyper-intelligent/manipulative.

Xaria and Monty join a resistance group and struggle to find a new path for humanity.so they might still exist in Promise as well
I like the game but starting with the ground floor the game gets less interesting IMO especially the meat world and the landlord room are tedious.
>>3906670landlord room is actually really fast if you know what you're doing
>>3906640It flies and can FADE AWAY every turn
>>3906650The 10% survival figure probably is due to the remaining gods who managed to get (literal) underground societies going.
>I wish for a way to defeat the visitor!>Earth's visitor matter turns out to be cancerous for the visitor. It basically absorbed something like cancer for itself without realizing it, one which slowly spreads across its greater form, slowly and agonizingly killing the one source of life as we know it in the known universe.
>>3906694Of course it's cancerous, Unity mirrors Rafta entering Nestor's eye
>>3906715>An ending where you get the option to read sybil's note at the ritual>Reading a note you didn't read in advance but know might be something important to your astronomer friends>Whatever concern jasper has about it is brief, the other three are too curious and want to hear it first>Doom.mp3 starts to play
>>3906721(Maybe it makes more sense to use on the exalted four, having the note in the combat inventory as well 'reading this note will end the fighting' as a description or some other description to try to get you to pick it)

>>3906742Unironically would probably be more disastrous than the visitor itself if something happened to the sun
>>3906746The implications of the Unity ending have me thinking on what could be going on here and if there is life living in/on the visitor without ever being aware of it like how earth existed as a basically visitor dandruff without ever being aware of it until sybil figured it out.

>>3906776frankie... please no...don't do this to me...
>>3906753Unity is a self fulfilling prophecy that basically was Sam unwittingly handing the visitor an idea that got us all killed.I just dont get why being visitor matter is even relevant to our existence anymore than being organic matter is, our cells dont decide we must all merge into the trees and other people and organisms because it turns out we are all organic matter and made of the same building blocks does it? Emergent phenomena being illusion is just what edgy redditors who think they are clever like to think. I know my cells love me and would not cuck me for a space whale, that much is certain.
>>3906789Your cells feel the way about you the way you would being a part of xin-amon's hide
>>3906789It's an eldritch god observing extremely distant offshoots of itself, which he was compelled to do by being perceived himself. When you show him the offerings, he sounds confused when you say they are about him rather than just him. Two-thirds of the note Sam reads says you should assert your individuality, but his sense of self is so shaky that he ends up doing what happens when he looks outside or at the photograph on a planetary scale.
On a related note, did Sam spaghettify the world in the Mask ending? If you pick up the odd offerings with The Spider in your party, he rambles about the end of mankind.
I don't view the unity ending as canon or that the earth is apart of it. That's schizo delusion on Sybil's part till Frankie outright says yes it's true.
>>3906793I guess it also depends on ego, like other characters probably don't have the reaction sam does to it. Aster is probably the worst one to show it to, he is too into ascending. The punks would probably be the ones most able to reject the note and its revelations as they reject being part of 'something greater' from the get go and all that. They arent immune to mutation at all (the fused form of the two comes to mind and juicebox is mutated) but they are but they assert individuality quite a bit.
who cares one gram or an ounce whether something is "canon", it's all fiction

>>3906801Do you have clip...
>>3906798To be fair, Dream Eater can hold himself together long enough to help you against the final boss if he was in your party previously.>>3906802I remember two instances: him saying that the idea of the Visitor being a creative force had existed since he began developing the game (like most things in 2.0), and him being confused at why some people are butthurt about that ending let alone think it contradicts anything before.
>>3906793Sounds like projection, if some part of me looked at me I would figure it's a different me and not try to force them to be part of me as that'd be incestuous.
>>3906805>that'd be incestuousReminds me of Frankie's response to someone asking him if Sam x Shadow is selfcest, which he called "the most Tumblr question he'd received">Wait until you see the Unity ending. Everything is Visitor selfcest.
>>3906803>To be fair, Dream Eater can hold himself together long enough to help you against the final boss if he was in your party previously.Maybe the disillusionment is why?Hard to tell there. He seemed eager to want to ascend me with xin-amon's claws on another play through while Jasper just sounded like he was fine with my ass getting kicked.
>>3906807BITE BITE BITE
>>3906803I think creative being and it's apart of him are two different things. I don't mind if the Visitor created the earth, itd be fucking lame and cliche, but alright. I could hide my dislike of it, since it wouldn't be a conscious decision, like he's so massive he made the big bang for the milky way on accident. The earth being a weird part of the Visitor it shook off and turned into it's own thing, and assumingly the entire solar system is just..very sad and lame. To me it's like saying the rest of the story doesn't matter because it wouldnt have happened. I know my explanations sound pretty similar, but it's just different o-okay...I don't think it contradicts anything though, just that it makes the entire thing weaker by implying it wasn't a chance encounter with devastating consequences like Remina. Yet, a "fated" would've happened eventually encounter.Being intrinsically tied together as a part of each other just does nothing for me, and makes me lose kinda interest. Implying they'd unite again eventually if they weren't unique enough.I suppose then Spider Husk and Sybil are supposed to mirror this but I just don't like it personally.
>>3906809I think it also does make the visitor less eldritch as it basically is inline with the idea of a primordial titan, an extra big one yeah but being made from visitor matter invalidating our existence just doesnt make sense to me. It's like saying being made of star stuff means we have to reconsolidate back into a star if the star is conscious.Truth only fucks you because you had the feeling of being an intergalactic organism forced into your brain unless Sam is so squishy that he would break apart on seeing the mandelbrot set.
>>3906809I feel the endings don't mesh well with the overall feel of the game. You create this weird chaotic world where nothing makes sense, where some turn into puddles of guts, others get forced evolution that turn them into amazing monsters and all manner of time/space fuckery. Yet the dev tries way to hard to explain stuff at the end and make it kinda of personal. It would have been way better if he decided to go full lovecraft, a true "person stepping on an ant" moment.
>>3906811I thought it was less that humanity's existence is invalidated and more that those vestigial remnants react just enough to irreversibly warp someone/thing's appearance (and mind if it's sentient)
>>3906813>Yet the dev tries way to hard to explain stuff at the end and make it kinda of personal. It would have been way better if he decided to go full lovecraft, a true "person stepping on an ant" moment.Yeah I've seen people take fault not with the information itself but the fact it's made so open at all. I wonder if Unity would have been better received if you didn't actually see the note's contents.I still think it's fucking hilarious how there's a variable called "whoops" that goes up as Sam reads it
>>3906811If we're using titan analogy, it's like how the Eldians found out their entire world and life was fabricated by the Marleyans.Their history was entirely "fake" and everything they ever knew, was just not true. More so since it was all a part of Paths. (Which I do admit was kino) Yet even once they find out the truth there is no joy to be found, just more despair. They are a hated class of people, and always will be for being an Eldian.Being made from the visitor itself though to me just says that, without the visitor we wouldn't exist. Everything in life was brought upon this unconscious being who had no concept of language and thought before being observed for the first time. I don't think we'd consolidate into the star, but if the star had that much raw, destructive power to irreversibly change life from how we know it, and once someone who was still grounded to earth found out that the star was US. Wed all turn back into goop and be absorbed into the star, just feels so... Pointless. Why am I alive and what point does anything have if my life is that expendable that I can be absorbed into something and everything in life is forgotten once it's taken back. Or something I'm kinda sleepy. I could probably explain it a bit better tomorrow Also I imagine being able to first hand experience the Mandelbrot set would be too much for anyone. Living inside of it and having it beamed directly into your mind and not just as a fun gif. It's like if you transferred your brain into my body, how you view every single inch of it, every single feeling and exact pore, the feeling of that one pube on your balls and how it hurt to pull it. Id probably go a bit crazy too having to experience the body of someone else who's isn't mine. It seems easy to understand, but you have to multiply that by a number too big to even count, and how every single portion of the visitor can experience things. Straight up, way too much information to digest.
>>3906594>most of the bad endings are as a result of you fucking up the ritual in some way>simply waiting 15 days for the situation to blow over results in one of the less bleak endingsone of the more compelling aspects of the game in terms of its narrative. people worsening an already bad situation due to ineptly remedying it even if they had good intentions is a relatable tale, but not one I see in games with multiple endings particularly often
I wonder what inspired the mirror events.
>>3906813My understanding was it basically was like the observer effect but with us as the protons. Hence the scale of the visitor being so vast- human to ant is way too courteous. That just gets you an organism that is a kilometer or two in length like a sand worm or mountain sized colossus. Ants don't start growing hands and hair and bones when we view them. The scale difference being so immense as it is makes sense because it has to be that immense for the analogy to work.>>3906821I want more endings just because I think there needs to be something to account for runs that do both the mask and visitor routes even if the mask is basically an expanded on failed ritual ending.
>>3906821I like No Going Back because it gives this ugly bitch what she had coming>so obsessed with finding the truth and documenting her findings that she knowingly left an infohazard out for someone to find>rather than taking accountability, just gives herself amnesia and takes up residence in some other apartment
Has anyone else used Aster in their playthroughs? Out of the 2.0 companions he feels very mediocre compared to Lyle, Phillippe, and The Spider.
>>3906824>My understanding was it basically was like the observer effect but with us as the protons. Hence the scale of the visitor being so vast- human to ant is way too courteous. My analogy was not literal like that. But still, trying to give it any meaning by using IRL laws like the observer effect or in game context like the Sybil notes is what I feel make the endings a bit meh. I mean, If we take the Unity knowledge as base for everything, it explains really well why everything is happening, even the joke anime ending makes sense, the MC is going full mega autist to the point is rewriting the visitor primordial directives in all matter into your biding. Also explains why most people turn into mindless flesh monsters while others turn into something with a particular theme, some kind of mind over matter scenario. Having all that knowledge kinda the defeats the whole lovecraft vibe.
>>3906821Screaming Skies I think is the funniest one because her friends end up doing a global holocaust after becoming an angel.Like they got to be a fucking angelic god being and they still go nuts, what fucking losers. Charan is kilometers long centipede and he's chill, huge skill issue with these astronomers.>>3906827It is a bit of an inherent weakness of lovecraftian horror, explain too much and it can 'ruin it'. Yet if you don't explain shit it can come off as random BS and that can also take someone out of it, maintaining the illusion of some loose consistency is a challenge in of itself and it is one Look Outside sometimes manages with the 'patterns' and 'motifs' the mutations have going on but then it makes some other stuff look out of place due to being too 1:1 with say, cursed videogame stories. Mind I already think the population of the apartment relative to how many dead bodies you see is comically uneven, like how many people does jeanne really have to feed on? It just seemed like other people in her apartment but it is made to sound like a constant thing they're doing but it isn't like you get jumped by any hydra heads while exploring the apartment and the spread doesnt go past one corner of the second floor. Or like the huge swarms of subsumed bodies and guts and flesh in those strung up tendrils you see on the roof which look neat but imply way, way more people than a single small ass 3 story apartment would have. Those cultists are lucky none of them got randomly merc'd by a flying abomination.
>>3906831>"this monster that is made from thousands of people they fused into their bodies">The apartment holds like, 200 people at mostyes this is just me being autistic
>>3906826he's the GOAT against the boilerThe Spider is also a really particularly obtuse character to get
>>3906831>Those cultists are lucky none of them got randomly merc'd by a flying abomination.Maybe it could be a thing that happens to one of them if you idle on the roof for 10+ minutes.
>>3906831>Or like the huge swarms of subsumed bodies and guts and flesh in those strung up tendrils you see on the roof which look neat but imply way, way more people than a single small ass 3 story apartment would have.I thought it was made up of people across the city, whether they were absorbed through proximity or got caught into it while getting sucked into the sky a la the window game over
>>3906826I used him on my Mask ending just for the kino moment where he assists you during the final fight in his Cursed form. As an actual party member he's... fine. His body and jewelry slot being permanently occupied by pretty mediocre pieces of armor really limits how you can build him, and most of his skills are either incredibly situational or are reliant on shoddy odds. On the brighter side, Strategic Huddle is nice for adding general reliability to attacks as well as crit builds, and Um... Actually helps cure some of the more annoying status effects in a pinch. Not outstanding by any means, but serviceable.
>>3906831Like jeanne is basically a starfish alien with a clear set of biological rules being followed compared to more inexplicable mutations like the freds who just can be anything due to being living paint and they aren't doing any freaky worm shit like assimilating people into their tongue. And also how Jeanne doesn't appear to follow the fusion motif. Onlookers also retroactively can feel out of place relative to everything else as they are more 'grounded' body horror monsters compared to stuff like the hand people. But I feel like they were meant to be more 'standard' by design due to how they appear at the start of the game and all that.
>>3906785>Hellen goes on a massacre!
>>3906842Each apartment room basically follows different rules from what I can tell. Sometimes they are infecting others by forcing people to look outside, other times they are infecting people with parasites. And then the tooth family infects with a baby biting people and it isn't even the baby that controls the teeth in tooth hell, it is the little brother who does and if you were nice to them earlier they help you in tooth hell by biting your enemies instead of you. The little brother runs things in that dimension, not the baby and you were nice to them during play time.. The hand people are an infectious strain but remain sane more than the tooth family could. The landlord took over the hand people's lives to the point a whole clade of military hand people formed in the endless war realm that emerged. And he was cognizant enough to talk even as a mole tank. So who "rules" something is on a totally separate basis from who looked outside first and then infected others.
>>3906850>Each apartment room basically follows different rules from what I can tellTo me it seems like the apartment is as corrupted as its owner is which is why sam's apartment somehow remains completely normal despite being surrounded on literally all sides by bullshit.
>>3906850>No recruitable hand people I found that oddly surprising for whatever reason

>Truth Ending modified to let you see more of the visitor the higher your score is (more sanity to spend).(Doesnt change what happens to earth, just more magnitudes of visitor to see and feel)
Why was there no non standard game over for the 'attack' option (ignoring comet strike)? I have no idea why but I decided to just make up one:>After the beam obliterated Sam, it then obliterated the entire city below Sam.>Nuclear weapons that were kept on standby launched.>Living or dead, they struck the visitor all the same.>The visitor first felt anger.>The visitor now felt pain.>The eye was burning from the blinding nuclear hellfire which had struck it.>It receded from Earth. Seemingly deterred.>The people who saw the eye retreat back to space celebrated.>For an hour, the nightmare seemed to be over.>[doom.mp3 starts playing again].>The celebration was short lived.>The eye returned, glaring. >People felt pain all across their bodies. No nerve receptor left untouched.>All life on earth is ripped apart first limb by limb, then organ by organ, then atom by atom.>It is an agonizing 2 minutes in real time.>But for those feeling it, it felt like millennia.
>>3906873On second thought it probably just would wipe us out instead of tormenting us or something. Which is funny in a way, given the other worse than death fates other endings have
>>3906881>Ceasing to exist in the middle of celebrating a supposed victoryLike the uncut gems ending in a way
I like you guys
Starting to think about using cheats just so I can get all the door encounter characters reliably. I have yet to get Morton once since I either get the junk trade before Landlord's apartment so I never have the 14 I need or he is in his cursed form when he shows up a 2nd time. I always get Sophie too late. And Xaria and Monty have only shown up once for me and never again.
>>3906993Just use the door encounters mod and save yourself the stress.
Sam's Spider Husk-esque interactions should make him more resilient to Whoops
>>3907034The implications of that are pretty big
>>3906873>Just looking out of curiosity vs glaring having a dramatic difference of what mutation does I could see it
>>3907034>You crumple the notes in your fist.>When you open it, they are gone.
>>3907038The paper is pretty heavy when he lifts it, if he couldn't stand not to look at the photo he's developing then I doubt he wouldn't peek at the infohazard
>>3907039Them being gone implies he's already looked at it and is balling them up instead of putting them down
>>3907039What I understood was that Ways of getting More resistance to infohazards via spider husk would unlock some additional options, like if spider husk does that if imagine that the mask show up in that one in your bedroom encounter you can just tell it to fuck off and developing the picture if you kill Lyle goes more smoothly. So you'd be able to have the note as an inventory item and get a new choice when talking to the exalted four about Sybil where you can just give them the note. I'm sure they can process its implications better. Right?
>>3907009>>3906993Door encounters are seeded to the entire run. There are some ways to manipulate them though, like having the priest bless your home to make the likelihood of cursed encounters much lower, or giving money to the delivery boy so he becomes a vendor rather than a random encounter.
>>3907049I didn't even think donating to the Priest or tipping the Delivery Boy did anything, I just did it because I felt like it
>>3907049Door encounters mod shows you who is there throughout the day, and you can have a bit more control over what's going on, since it also shows you who's in the queue, but I've had it give me stuff out of order regarding party members. Still very useful anyways
Favorite companion side quest?>Sophie (returning her to Harriet)>Dan>Hellen>Lyle>LeighI'm partial to Lyle's even if it takes arguably the longest to complete and doesn't have a material payoff; you can tell cboyardee had a blast writing it. Always thought Papineau should have had a different epilogue in the Promise ending depending on whether you've taken him to the fungal lair and faced his colleagues.
>>3907065Joel's. It's not the same as the others but I like how even as he grows up and lives with Sam he always stays connected to Ben and spends time with him since he loves his brother. I just wish we got to know about Rosie since he is presumably taking care of her now.Man, I love Promise I just wish we got en epilogue though for the other routes regarding our characters too.
>>3907065Forgot to add Roaches.
>>3907072>Wish we got epilogues for all the endingsThe ones where more interesting fates than simply perishing from the apocalyptic event are possible, anyways. (As comical as "[party member] was devoured by hamsters" being repeated over and over would be)
>>3907085Like screaming skies I can see more range for, (I.e "Xaria and Monty managed to suicide bomb the angelic abomination and make it bleed" )
>>3907090(Basically the party members who suggest fleeing go hiding, those who suggest killing it attempt to kill it on their own terms and fail to, at most getting a hit on it)
>>3907090How would they manage that with the time dilation field and FADE AWAY?
>>3907085Flawed ritual and what comes of aster would be interesting to see
>>3907096Aster mutating in my face Eroi
>>3907097He kinda has to admit he dodged a bullet a bit compared to the others who became a cyclone of swirling slop
>>3906766The whole deal with Floor 1 foreshadowed Unity by showing it on a much smaller scale.>guy makes a visual impression of something that'd otherwise drive people insane>the one other person who observes it heavily warps the vicinity and spreads his knowledge to others, taking on features of that respective floor (in this case the rat infestation)>rather than undergoing a drastic transformation, patient zero sheds his memories and personality traits into viscous globs
>>3907099Frederic I think resisted more than some would due to being better at flaunting subjectivity being a painter with DID and a crazy ego and all that
>>3907100The way someone with DID is affected by it is distinct and manifested in multiple paintings all claiming to be Fred and instead of wanting unity, wanting to kill the others while making the fragment identity that comes out on top the "true" one.It is a different situation from Jeanne who only appears to have one self aware head while the rest appear to be mindless monsters; which I think was a bit disappointing as it would have been creepier if some of the other heads were just as convinced but I guess they already did that bit with Fred and didn't want to repeat it?
>>3907102And I mean even a head that is actually killing peoples representing the ID more and such. Or mimicking true Jeanne to lure you in to attack.
I've played through it once, dropped it on the second run. The combat system doesn't provide much variety.
>>3907104Like I had the impression Jeanne was someone who had repressed anger or such and the Jeanne head we talk to was like the super ego and then it turned out to just be a straightforward looping off the other other heads. I found that oddly disappointing for whatever reason.
>>3907099His enemy type when you use Dan's scan ability is "ascended" (the same as the roof bosses), interestingly enough. Taxidermy, Spore Mother, Furnace, and Lethargy also have that designation.
>>3907104Maybe I'm overthinking it but I found it peculiar that Jeanne is a predatory monster that mauls people like a tiger or raptor would instead of infecting or assimilating like what is more typical of the cursed (the worm fusing that dude to its tongue, the tooth family infecting people, the fucking olm)
>>3907097That scenery is beautiful even if it mostly consists of pulsating, stratosphere-reaching, and (according to Charan) screaming flesh trees
>>3907113I suspect they are connected to the meat dimension in some way, the background suggesting it isn’t the only meat dimension….
>>3907112Jeanne’s main issue is the ideas I try to think through end up already being done better by another character. Frederic for disassociation themes, Leigh for the powerless person who had a repressed desire to be a monster and such
>>3907106Posts like this are a bit amusing to me, do you actually browse this dead slow board
>>3907112Especially since she's a biker and Harriet is afraid she'll be a bad influence on Sophie
>>3907072>>3907065I also liked Joel's the most. He is also my favorite party member.Leigh's was also good but a tad too short IMO.
>>3907117Floor two feels a bit incomplete compared to three or the basement, enough places but those places have place holder-y stuff like the lack of character of anyone other than summer in summer's apartment or the writer's apartment being just the boss. Floor one has a good amount going on Ground floor also is like one or two dungeons tops
>>3907128>the writer's apartment being just the bossIt's the only other apartment with a light switch (the first being Edwin/the Stargazer's), kind of weird that there isn't anything more to it.
>>3906721That could actually work if you go the failed ritual route as it reveals man's subjectivity by understanding the concept of Ephemerality (Birth/Youth (Baby Photos)->Adulthood (Marriage Video)->Twilight Years (Portrait of Old Man)->Death(Last Will)), instead of the astronomers offering depictions of the visitor, they are offering their own subjectivity of the state of life on the world and how they are independent from their primogenitor who has existed for countless years.
Why don't anons just work together and write something, make a mod or whatever
>>3907218>the Visitor's eye becomes a fucked up Sam clone
>>3907253>I was thinking more that you fight the real state of the mask, not the disembodied mass of limbs and just the mask alone but a literal copy of Sam wearing the mask with extra shadowy limbs that is a far stronger boss than Sybil. Using a copy of your moveset from your current playthrough.
>>3906831>It just seemed like other people in her apartment but it is made to sound like a constant thing they're doing but it isn't like you get jumped by any hydra heads while exploring the apartment and the spread doesnt go past one corner of the second floor.Frankie originally wanted to make her extend all over the complex (pic related) but he went back on it due to time constraints. I don't think there will be many content updates filling gaps like that unfortunately.
Phillippe's recruitment is my favourite dialogue interaction
>>3907291This makes sense to me, but it has me also imagining they then would have to account for the failure modes (which probably would include 'upgraded' jeanne enemies who represent a jeanne that accepts "she is a monster" who start appearing after day 7 or so, in my head the 'bad side' of her past (which I feel is hinted at?) would be way more visible) and then some facetaker level boss theme for the core ideally. So I can see why it isnt a gap that'll be filled except maybe towards the end of the year if we are lucky. And honestly i'd rather they expand on typewrither or add another ending related to the meat dimension/sybil that connects things with the mask route in some way instead of adding more things currently. Like as cool as 'wormaggedon' endings + ascension boss from an astronomer getting worm'd going to the ritual would be, I feel like that is side DLC type stuff.

>>3907334I wonder if there may have to be mechanics to be 'unobserved' by the visitor while traveling to other buildings or such. Also the shades and their fucking deal I have no idea.
>>3907377Go out at night, Since the Visitor's eye glows, going out when it's dark should be (relatively) safe
>>3907390I'm not falling for that one
>>3907334A fan game with the final boss being one of the 124 gods maybe However the fuck you'd fight that. Like Jeanne where you attack parts of them but expanded on where you do get attacked in the overworld directly as well? Or maybe do what OFF did and have the player sprites be tiny compared to the enemy boss sprite to show they're big.
>>3907427I think the way UTDR was made in game maker allowed for way more mechanical flexibility than RPG MakerHow look outside as a world is in other game genres is what interests me more in all honesty
I'm thinking Filthy Ring on Sam/Ash is the strat. With Rat Child you can dupe all the Filthy Ring moves too for harder fights. You throw on Tickles too and Rat Crown or Clown Wig and you basically have every element/weakness potentially covered on two characters (quad casting with coat of arms too) and with exception to Clown Wig/Tickles you can have all of this guaranteed pre Sewers. If you have Sophie you could save up cold and shock marbles for Sewers if you get her on day 2 and learn Screamer for guaranteed shock damage in Sewers and then hopefully get one of the two shock weapons from mutt in a pre day 5 sewer run.

His other 10 years project gives furry vibes to boot but [spoilers] Look Outside is a fun game based on a cool concept with quite a bit of content and replayability and you should probably pick it up if it's on sale.

Attacking the Visitor not having a proper defeat ending was surprising. Yeah the obliterate but I feel like the fallout of the visitor learning the feeling of anger being that just eyes shifting from curiosity to agitation at this speck causing the mutations to get worse and the gaze to become a glare has potential for a unique bad ending?
>>3907649I guess it probably would be like No Going Back but with more perpetual violence and carnage
>>3907649A "proper victory" ending maybe is achieved by hurting the visitor enough and your mutations giving you higher dmg (your fracturing giving you more limbs to attack with and all that) with the difference being more mask related deals (again) and that leads to a world that is basically unified in hate and that is the only lucidity it has as it veils itself from the universe in a global cloak that festers for centuries until another visit 500 years later accidentally gets too close to earth and it then sprouts endless fractal arms to strangle and attack the visitor, lashing out mindlessly and aimlessly at it and replicating as it touches the visitor in a virus-like fashion.(Just trying to think of how you achieve a virus analog basically)
>>3907660The cloak makes it hard(r) for the visitor to perceive but it maybe is mutating regardless (the splitting) due to the visitor's own perception of it.
>>3907660Maybe it's achievable by having a mask (like the indigo mask) that lets you survive the obliterate, leading the visitor to try to show you the futility of fighting it and that backfiring horribly?
https://x.com/mura_idk/status/2010246917247361409?s=20Someone made a Dan doll.
>>3907649On a related note, the Visitor's only weakness when you initially attack it is flesh damage (which some of Hellen's skills deal).
Like the only way I could imagine "defeating" the visitor is becoming a virus with compounding mitosis, the other horror of the cosmos is how claustrophobic it starts to look when you are self replicating and doubling in count every year.
>>3907660>>3907677>What comet strike actually does
>>3907681The most optimistic fallout of it is you see eons later new life form from the remains of it all, who recount a creation myth that is their own distorted account of what happened. The universe is shown to be full of life unlike our current universe from all the mutated remains. That's the best case, worse case is there just is no life in the region of the universe we inhabit anymore.
>>3907660A Wizard's Hell variant of Final True?
Even after all the updates, Vertigo is still in my top 3 tracks. Glad it was reused in Unity.
>>3907692I'm trying to think of how you still basically do a cathartic good ending in a warped sense. Sam subsumed by a mindless need to win becoming a self replicating virus that rips the visitor apart in a compounding wave of destruction that is like a forest fire. The destruction is vast but it lets new life grow in its wake. Sam simply dies because they quit "the game" after winning. The universe regrows more fragmented and disassociated, much like life sprouting after a fire burning through it. Is it a good ending for humanity? No, no one who is at the start of that cycle would know what actually happened and we'd be long extinct. But maybe it is better for the universe at large compared to all life being consolidated to one cosmic entity. A bit of a subjective judgement I'll admit.
>>3907699>Sam simply dies because they quit "the game" after winningHe'll continue his "mission" until there is nothing left to be recognized as Visitor, a task that will last all eternity, not that Sam doesn't mind that, he only loses interest in suffering when he can't do any more. He's doing what Edwin did but to the Visitor instead>I feel something new. I feel fear.>Please stop.
>>3907702>If the bits of the visitor ripped out by the virus Sam become new worlds with complex life like earth, they would be like countless eyes beginning to look back at the visitor once they gain civilizations, astral_stare^2
>>3907704You know how when an animal gets something stuck to their face and they thrash around trying to get it off?I picture the Visitor doing that while the writhing limbs that were once Sam digs his fingers into it while brutally stabbing and smashing and impaling it with oversized kitchen knives and baseball bats and pool cues
>>3907692He seems way more into Wizard's Hell and other outwardly violent games (Blood Ghoul Orgy 3, Wake the Blood Knight) than MP.
>>3907704>For the visitor, this would be like your blood coming to life and looking back at youCosmic body horror
>>3907709You can easily tell by the Exp per hour ratio, nothing can really beat Wizard's Hell on that. The Exalted Four should really have an interaction where if Aster saw you do the mind-magic on the wizards he starts panicking.
I want to play other games but this is the only game I actually want want to play Suffering
>>3907712After a point it just is basically multiple cosmic horrors attacking each other in one insignificant part of the universe for reasons that no one even can remember
>You are now LONELY. Being lonely reduces your evasion, and sometimes makes you fail to attack. What if they're a friend...?This status effect existing means that, technically, Sam has some ability to appreciate the friendly clown (as well as abominations trying to kill him).
>>3907741Cosmic horror Sam recruiting civilizations just is roaches all over again
>>3907743>Looking into a reflection nebula upon the start of a cycle>strangely enough, you feel great!>Implication that all ascending did was move you up a few fractal layers>And that it may just keep going upwards forever
>>3907754Fan game concept maybe, being an awakened planet recruiting other world minds and whole civilizations to fight remina looking fuckers Maybe a game like that exists already
>>3907760Sam fucking LOVES Myrmidon and Roaches so I think he just has an affinity with tiny things
>>3907743>A detached part of the visitor gains autonomy>It wants to join your partythe game never ends
The original concept for Sybil.
>>3907782And the thing she'd turn into.
>>3907778I mean is the space eel that detached really visitor or someone new?
>>3907789They just know there is an the galaxy lord's reign of evil, we need to fight the galaxy lord and need allies. The eel isn't visitor, they are someone new and they want to help us fight it. They seem nice unlike the monster who destroyed earth and threatened us all who we fought at the start of the game. They were sent by the galaxy lord who terrorizes the whole galaxy with monsters like that. We should recruit them as they seem like a tanky spell caster type, we'll need that.
