Look Outside is pretty neatLots of exploration, plenty of detailed spritesCombat is pretty basic (RPGmaker), so if that's your focus you might be disappointed
This is one of the few times where i actually like an RPG maker horror game. I just like a good old RPG, plus the unhindged art really sells it.Soundtrack is great too.
>>3892957It seems really reddit-y
Nah.
>>3892978yeah I only pay for AAA™ games
>>3892978do you ever get tired of spamming every rpgmaker thread with the same images over and over?
>>3892970Lmao if its not animeshit you people call it reddit-y.Must be a blacksoulsfaggot.
>>3892957Combat is the usual turn based, but there are status effects and different ability variations between characters, similar to Lisa the painful and Fear and Hunger.Which makes it already better than most of rpg maker games out there (or even jrpgs in general)
>>3892970Don't make me like reddit, you faggot.
>>3892993>Lmao if its not animeshit you people call it reddit-y.Ironic since one of the endings has you become an anime character who defeats the final boss.Shit like this, which disrespects both the tone of the game and the intelligence of the player, is why it's difficult to take the game seriously.
>>3893180...it's a secret joke ending. It's making fun of anime. It's making fun of you.You didn't even get it, did you? You looked it up on Youtube. You have no idea what it even is.
>>3893314>...it's a secret joke endingI'm aware, retard. The game already had a joke ending, it didn't need another one.
>>3893318What was it?
games with missable things makes me anxious
>>3893318>retardmaxxing on purpose
>>3892962I agree, have not yet played it but the art had me looking at it since before release. Reception seems good, and the OST was also nice from what I heard. I will get it at some point when I finish playing other stuff I'm already committed to.Horror + sick art like this needs to happen more. I can deal with basic EarthBound style combat and battle presentation when the monsters you fight are on par with EarthBound and Dragon Quest in their variety and weirdness... except better because there is the horror element.
So I just got this game and I've been playing it for a bit. It might just be that I don't like RPGs without a lot of guidance and structure, but are you supposed to basically just be wandering around and having no idea what to do? A lot of the monsters are tough especially with just me and I'm always losing health in fights. I also ended up spending like $100 at the start on soap and a medkit. I just feel like I have no idea what I'm doing or if I'm doing well or not. I'm on day 2 and just figured out I could get to the first floor by running past the eye monster, could not beat it. I don't want to just keep having to run past it every time while I wander around a huge maze.
>>3895342>play horror game>be shocked that it isn't immediately legiblethat's the entire point bro
>>3895343I've played horror games before, like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. I'm okay with some degree of wandering and danger. But it's much easier in those games to avoid enemies or to kill them without taking damage. You also don't have RPG mechanics that can allow you to do something like waste all of your money unless you do something totally retarded like just let yourself get hit to use up your health items or fire all your bullets into a wall.
>>3895342The game gets a lot easier once you gather a few party members, however it's not immediately obvious who you can recruit and how. A number of party members appear as a random door encounter when you're doing activities at home, so you can even just spend some time playing videogames and wait for someone to arrive.
>>3895360> just spend some time playing videogames and wait for someone to arrive.Tried this IRL. Still alone. =[
>>3895360Oh is that how most people play? That's actually kinda cool, who you get might affect your playthrough so there's always variety too. Maybe I'll do that then.
>>3895459It's definitely quite a replayable game. Something like a dozen recruitable characters, and many occasions of dialogue between them. A similar number of endings as well. I'm on my second playthrough now with a completely different party.
Man, wait until people who shill this game play an actual good game like Enchanted Farm.
>>3895521it's called Enchant Farm you dumb poseur
>>3895521Gatekeep games better, otherwise they end up in the toilet, like F&H and BS.
>>3895578>BSTotal dumpster I agree>FnHNope, this one is kino
>>3895459I usually start the game by playing Super Jumplad twice. Usually that's enough for a level up, and it puts you on better footing going forward. The crafting kit in Vincent's apt. is also pretty important. There's enough stuff for you to make some Molotovs, which provide some security as you wander around. If you save your first Simple Key you can spend it in the Tooth apt to get an Old Rifle, which you can use to make early bosses much easier.
Love this game. There are so many litte obscure things to discover. It's really suprising and the characters are charming.
>>3893180Yes cuz the jrpg power of friendship is so much better? Fuck off
>>3892996The game is good but every jrpg has that
>>3898812Point out where I mentioned that in my post.
>>3898839It's just a curious case of people selectively ignoring most JRPGs that exist and saying they like this one for abstract reasons they lack the inventory of concepts to describe beyond>"w-well uh, i just PERSONALLY like Look Outside because, um... b-because I JUST DO, OK!? GOD!"tl;dr - most people who claim to like this game don't actually like it for any good reason and simply fell for marketing bullshit that makes them believe for no meaningful reason that this game is something they should enjoy. Whether this be because they see other people "enjoying" it and want to be part of that "energy" or see the art style and feel like the game must "be something" because of that (the art style has nothing at all to do with the substance of a game), it's all smoke and mirrors.
>>3900693The great thing about having fun is that you don't need to write a thesis as to why
played this game last week and it was pretty fun, though I didn't like that the party members in your room didnt get updated dialogue for your progression, but understandable since that would be a lot of dialoguebut main gripe was jeanne not having more dialogue after her quest, was hoping I'd be able to invite her to at least play DnD with your party, or anything really, though I get she can't be a party member since she is kinda stuck in her room
>>3901162Did you return her laundry?
>>3901382of course, but I still kept checking in on her daily hoping she'd have more stuff, but nope, nothing
>>3901481The laundry dialogue is the last bit you'll get
>>3901799I still got one scene after that.
>>3901799>>3901876yes the last scene is the one where she shows her biker clothes, but I was expecting there to be moreI hope there is a content update that adds more content with her because she is one of the few sane individuals that is just theresame with the basement camp, thought they would have different dialogue depending of the day but not really (at least not every day, but maybe 3 different sets based on either you are on before day 5, day 10 and day 15)
>Got Sophie day one>Kept doing Game Skills waiting for her mom to show up>Only 2 days left>Has had the time to recruit Morton, do the entire Crossword Video Game + Crossword Puzzles, go down to the Crossword Catacombs and beat Aunty Wilhelmina von Kreutzwort, stupid ass and give Morton a cool ass spear>Sophie mom still never showed up.I get its RNG but I think it'd be nice if having certain party members weighted certain encounters. So having multiple games would attract Dan, keeping your plant watered attracts Hellen, having Sophie would attract her mom, etc.

>>3902981Yeah people retell an entire 500 pages book word-by-word all the time, copying the entire experienceis that really the best you can do? Give a compelling argument or fuck off
>>3902984>Yeah people retell an entire 500 pages book word-by-word all the time, copying the entire experienceUnironically, yes.>Give a compelling argument or fuck offTake your own advice.
>>3892957I bought it back when it was clearly an unfinished game after watching ManlyBadassHero's Let's Play but I didn't finish it. It's a pretty fun and interesting game from what I played, but I'd rather get the whole experience at once. I planned to play it again after 2.0 released, but from glancing at the developer Frankie's streams, he's still fixing bugs, so I'm going to keep waiting.
>>3903130I've played through twice and didn't run into any bugs I noticed
>>3903172I believe you, but I'm paranoid that Frankie might add another secret boss or something like that. Also things like pic related bug me a little.
>>3902932Nah, I just think the game isn't worth a single $, therefore I'll never give the Devs my money, with or without the piracy option.Making your game on rpgm is lazy and cheap, and if they don't give a fuck why should I.I'll never pay for rpgm games, period.
>>3895342You have objectives, an environment to explore, items to collect, enemies to kill, and mechanics to learn. Same as every RPG. That seems like enough guidance and structure to me.
>>3892957This game made me waidu a vending machine. Good rpg. Is it s golden masterpiece? No, but it's worth your time and money and it's memorable and it's funny, just a great experience overall>When you give the moth the flamethrower

>>3903130there are a few unfinished assets in the game, but when I did a few runs recently I never encountered any game ruining bugs. feel free to wait for any additional bug fixes so francis can fix the smaller ones, but you could play through the entire game as it is with little to no issue as it is
>>3904590I keep forgetting that the unfinished ones aren't a stylistic choice

ANOTHER fucking 5/10 PORN GAME that you stupid fucking gooners are just slurping up, huh?
>>3906643It's not a porn game you retard, but you already knew that

>>3906647What happens to them in the Promise ending? I remember Frankie saying on one of his devstreams that the gods still exist in Denial, they're just subdued. Apparently not all of them are massive either, just hyper-intelligent/manipulative.

Xaria and Monty join a resistance group and struggle to find a new path for humanity.so they might still exist in Promise as well
I like the game but starting with the ground floor the game gets less interesting IMO especially the meat world and the landlord room are tedious.
>>3906670landlord room is actually really fast if you know what you're doing
>>3906640It flies and can FADE AWAY every turn
>>3906650The 10% survival figure probably is due to the remaining gods who managed to get (literal) underground societies going.
>I wish for a way to defeat the visitor!>Earth's visitor matter turns out to be cancerous for the visitor. It basically absorbed something like cancer for itself without realizing it, one which slowly spreads across its greater form, slowly and agonizingly killing the one source of life as we know it in the known universe.
>>3906694Of course it's cancerous, Unity mirrors Rafta entering Nestor's eye
>>3906715>An ending where you get the option to read sybil's note at the ritual>Reading a note you didn't read in advance but know might be something important to your astronomer friends>Whatever concern jasper has about it is brief, the other three are too curious and want to hear it first>Doom.mp3 starts to play
>>3906721(Maybe it makes more sense to use on the exalted four, having the note in the combat inventory as well 'reading this note will end the fighting' as a description or some other description to try to get you to pick it)

>>3906742Unironically would probably be more disastrous than the visitor itself if something happened to the sun
>>3906746The implications of the Unity ending have me thinking on what could be going on here and if there is life living in/on the visitor without ever being aware of it like how earth existed as a basically visitor dandruff without ever being aware of it until sybil figured it out.

>>3906776frankie... please no...don't do this to me...
>>3906753Unity is a self fulfilling prophecy that basically was Sam unwittingly handing the visitor an idea that got us all killed.I just dont get why being visitor matter is even relevant to our existence anymore than being organic matter is, our cells dont decide we must all merge into the trees and other people and organisms because it turns out we are all organic matter and made of the same building blocks does it? Emergent phenomena being illusion is just what edgy redditors who think they are clever like to think. I know my cells love me and would not cuck me for a space whale, that much is certain.
>>3906789Your cells feel the way about you the way you would being a part of xin-amon's hide
>>3906789It's an eldritch god observing extremely distant offshoots of itself, which he was compelled to do by being perceived himself. When you show him the offerings, he sounds confused when you say they are about him rather than just him. Two-thirds of the note Sam reads says you should assert your individuality, but his sense of self is so shaky that he ends up doing what happens when he looks outside or at the photograph on a planetary scale.
On a related note, did Sam spaghettify the world in the Mask ending? If you pick up the odd offerings with The Spider in your party, he rambles about the end of mankind.
I don't view the unity ending as canon or that the earth is apart of it. That's schizo delusion on Sybil's part till Frankie outright says yes it's true.
>>3906793I guess it also depends on ego, like other characters probably don't have the reaction sam does to it. Aster is probably the worst one to show it to, he is too into ascending. The punks would probably be the ones most able to reject the note and its revelations as they reject being part of 'something greater' from the get go and all that. They arent immune to mutation at all (the fused form of the two comes to mind and juicebox is mutated) but they are but they assert individuality quite a bit.
who cares one gram or an ounce whether something is "canon", it's all fiction

>>3906801Do you have clip...
>>3906798To be fair, Dream Eater can hold himself together long enough to help you against the final boss if he was in your party previously.>>3906802I remember two instances: him saying that the idea of the Visitor being a creative force had existed since he began developing the game (like most things in 2.0), and him being confused at why some people are butthurt about that ending let alone think it contradicts anything before.
>>3906793Sounds like projection, if some part of me looked at me I would figure it's a different me and not try to force them to be part of me as that'd be incestuous.
>>3906805>that'd be incestuousReminds me of Frankie's response to someone asking him if Sam x Shadow is selfcest, which he called "the most Tumblr question he'd received">Wait until you see the Unity ending. Everything is Visitor selfcest.
>>3906803>To be fair, Dream Eater can hold himself together long enough to help you against the final boss if he was in your party previously.Maybe the disillusionment is why?Hard to tell there. He seemed eager to want to ascend me with xin-amon's claws on another play through while Jasper just sounded like he was fine with my ass getting kicked.
>>3906807BITE BITE BITE
>>3906803I think creative being and it's apart of him are two different things. I don't mind if the Visitor created the earth, itd be fucking lame and cliche, but alright. I could hide my dislike of it, since it wouldn't be a conscious decision, like he's so massive he made the big bang for the milky way on accident. The earth being a weird part of the Visitor it shook off and turned into it's own thing, and assumingly the entire solar system is just..very sad and lame. To me it's like saying the rest of the story doesn't matter because it wouldnt have happened. I know my explanations sound pretty similar, but it's just different o-okay...I don't think it contradicts anything though, just that it makes the entire thing weaker by implying it wasn't a chance encounter with devastating consequences like Remina. Yet, a "fated" would've happened eventually encounter.Being intrinsically tied together as a part of each other just does nothing for me, and makes me lose kinda interest. Implying they'd unite again eventually if they weren't unique enough.I suppose then Spider Husk and Sybil are supposed to mirror this but I just don't like it personally.
>>3906809I think it also does make the visitor less eldritch as it basically is inline with the idea of a primordial titan, an extra big one yeah but being made from visitor matter invalidating our existence just doesnt make sense to me. It's like saying being made of star stuff means we have to reconsolidate back into a star if the star is conscious.Truth only fucks you because you had the feeling of being an intergalactic organism forced into your brain unless Sam is so squishy that he would break apart on seeing the mandelbrot set.
>>3906809I feel the endings don't mesh well with the overall feel of the game. You create this weird chaotic world where nothing makes sense, where some turn into puddles of guts, others get forced evolution that turn them into amazing monsters and all manner of time/space fuckery. Yet the dev tries way to hard to explain stuff at the end and make it kinda of personal. It would have been way better if he decided to go full lovecraft, a true "person stepping on an ant" moment.
>>3906811I thought it was less that humanity's existence is invalidated and more that those vestigial remnants react just enough to irreversibly warp someone/thing's appearance (and mind if it's sentient)
>>3906813>Yet the dev tries way to hard to explain stuff at the end and make it kinda of personal. It would have been way better if he decided to go full lovecraft, a true "person stepping on an ant" moment.Yeah I've seen people take fault not with the information itself but the fact it's made so open at all. I wonder if Unity would have been better received if you didn't actually see the note's contents.I still think it's fucking hilarious how there's a variable called "whoops" that goes up as Sam reads it
>>3906811If we're using titan analogy, it's like how the Eldians found out their entire world and life was fabricated by the Marleyans.Their history was entirely "fake" and everything they ever knew, was just not true. More so since it was all a part of Paths. (Which I do admit was kino) Yet even once they find out the truth there is no joy to be found, just more despair. They are a hated class of people, and always will be for being an Eldian.Being made from the visitor itself though to me just says that, without the visitor we wouldn't exist. Everything in life was brought upon this unconscious being who had no concept of language and thought before being observed for the first time. I don't think we'd consolidate into the star, but if the star had that much raw, destructive power to irreversibly change life from how we know it, and once someone who was still grounded to earth found out that the star was US. Wed all turn back into goop and be absorbed into the star, just feels so... Pointless. Why am I alive and what point does anything have if my life is that expendable that I can be absorbed into something and everything in life is forgotten once it's taken back. Or something I'm kinda sleepy. I could probably explain it a bit better tomorrow Also I imagine being able to first hand experience the Mandelbrot set would be too much for anyone. Living inside of it and having it beamed directly into your mind and not just as a fun gif. It's like if you transferred your brain into my body, how you view every single inch of it, every single feeling and exact pore, the feeling of that one pube on your balls and how it hurt to pull it. Id probably go a bit crazy too having to experience the body of someone else who's isn't mine. It seems easy to understand, but you have to multiply that by a number too big to even count, and how every single portion of the visitor can experience things. Straight up, way too much information to digest.
>>3906594>most of the bad endings are as a result of you fucking up the ritual in some way>simply waiting 15 days for the situation to blow over results in one of the less bleak endingsone of the more compelling aspects of the game in terms of its narrative. people worsening an already bad situation due to ineptly remedying it even if they had good intentions is a relatable tale, but not one I see in games with multiple endings particularly often
I wonder what inspired the mirror events.
>>3906813My understanding was it basically was like the observer effect but with us as the protons. Hence the scale of the visitor being so vast- human to ant is way too courteous. That just gets you an organism that is a kilometer or two in length like a sand worm or mountain sized colossus. Ants don't start growing hands and hair and bones when we view them. The scale difference being so immense as it is makes sense because it has to be that immense for the analogy to work.>>3906821I want more endings just because I think there needs to be something to account for runs that do both the mask and visitor routes even if the mask is basically an expanded on failed ritual ending.
>>3906821I like No Going Back because it gives this ugly bitch what she had coming>so obsessed with finding the truth and documenting her findings that she knowingly left an infohazard out for someone to find>rather than taking accountability, just gives herself amnesia and takes up residence in some other apartment
Has anyone else used Aster in their playthroughs? Out of the 2.0 companions he feels very mediocre compared to Lyle, Phillippe, and The Spider.
>>3906824>My understanding was it basically was like the observer effect but with us as the protons. Hence the scale of the visitor being so vast- human to ant is way too courteous. My analogy was not literal like that. But still, trying to give it any meaning by using IRL laws like the observer effect or in game context like the Sybil notes is what I feel make the endings a bit meh. I mean, If we take the Unity knowledge as base for everything, it explains really well why everything is happening, even the joke anime ending makes sense, the MC is going full mega autist to the point is rewriting the visitor primordial directives in all matter into your biding. Also explains why most people turn into mindless flesh monsters while others turn into something with a particular theme, some kind of mind over matter scenario. Having all that knowledge kinda the defeats the whole lovecraft vibe.
>>3906821Screaming Skies I think is the funniest one because her friends end up doing a global holocaust after becoming an angel.Like they got to be a fucking angelic god being and they still go nuts, what fucking losers. Charan is kilometers long centipede and he's chill, huge skill issue with these astronomers.>>3906827It is a bit of an inherent weakness of lovecraftian horror, explain too much and it can 'ruin it'. Yet if you don't explain shit it can come off as random BS and that can also take someone out of it, maintaining the illusion of some loose consistency is a challenge in of itself and it is one Look Outside sometimes manages with the 'patterns' and 'motifs' the mutations have going on but then it makes some other stuff look out of place due to being too 1:1 with say, cursed videogame stories. Mind I already think the population of the apartment relative to how many dead bodies you see is comically uneven, like how many people does jeanne really have to feed on? It just seemed like other people in her apartment but it is made to sound like a constant thing they're doing but it isn't like you get jumped by any hydra heads while exploring the apartment and the spread doesnt go past one corner of the second floor. Or like the huge swarms of subsumed bodies and guts and flesh in those strung up tendrils you see on the roof which look neat but imply way, way more people than a single small ass 3 story apartment would have. Those cultists are lucky none of them got randomly merc'd by a flying abomination.
>>3906831>"this monster that is made from thousands of people they fused into their bodies">The apartment holds like, 200 people at mostyes this is just me being autistic
>>3906826he's the GOAT against the boilerThe Spider is also a really particularly obtuse character to get
>>3906831>Those cultists are lucky none of them got randomly merc'd by a flying abomination.Maybe it could be a thing that happens to one of them if you idle on the roof for 10+ minutes.
>>3906831>Or like the huge swarms of subsumed bodies and guts and flesh in those strung up tendrils you see on the roof which look neat but imply way, way more people than a single small ass 3 story apartment would have.I thought it was made up of people across the city, whether they were absorbed through proximity or got caught into it while getting sucked into the sky a la the window game over
>>3906826I used him on my Mask ending just for the kino moment where he assists you during the final fight in his Cursed form. As an actual party member he's... fine. His body and jewelry slot being permanently occupied by pretty mediocre pieces of armor really limits how you can build him, and most of his skills are either incredibly situational or are reliant on shoddy odds. On the brighter side, Strategic Huddle is nice for adding general reliability to attacks as well as crit builds, and Um... Actually helps cure some of the more annoying status effects in a pinch. Not outstanding by any means, but serviceable.
>>3906831Like jeanne is basically a starfish alien with a clear set of biological rules being followed compared to more inexplicable mutations like the freds who just can be anything due to being living paint and they aren't doing any freaky worm shit like assimilating people into their tongue. And also how Jeanne doesn't appear to follow the fusion motif. Onlookers also retroactively can feel out of place relative to everything else as they are more 'grounded' body horror monsters compared to stuff like the hand people. But I feel like they were meant to be more 'standard' by design due to how they appear at the start of the game and all that.
>>3906785>Hellen goes on a massacre!
>>3906842Each apartment room basically follows different rules from what I can tell. Sometimes they are infecting others by forcing people to look outside, other times they are infecting people with parasites. And then the tooth family infects with a baby biting people and it isn't even the baby that controls the teeth in tooth hell, it is the little brother who does and if you were nice to them earlier they help you in tooth hell by biting your enemies instead of you. The little brother runs things in that dimension, not the baby and you were nice to them during play time.. The hand people are an infectious strain but remain sane more than the tooth family could. The landlord took over the hand people's lives to the point a whole clade of military hand people formed in the endless war realm that emerged. And he was cognizant enough to talk even as a mole tank. So who "rules" something is on a totally separate basis from who looked outside first and then infected others.

Why was there no non standard game over for the 'attack' option (ignoring comet strike)? I have no idea why but I decided to just make up one:>After the beam obliterated Sam, it then obliterated the entire city below Sam.>Nuclear weapons that were kept on standby launched.>Living or dead, they struck the visitor all the same.>The visitor first felt anger.>The visitor now felt pain.>The eye was burning from the blinding nuclear hellfire which had struck it.>It receded from Earth. Seemingly deterred.>The people who saw the eye retreat back to space celebrated.>For an hour, the nightmare seemed to be over.>[doom.mp3 starts playing again].>The celebration was short lived.>The eye returned, glaring. >People felt pain all across their bodies. No nerve receptor left untouched.>All life on earth is ripped apart first limb by limb, then organ by organ, then atom by atom.>It is an agonizing 2 minutes in real time.>But for those feeling it, it felt like millennia.

Starting to think about using cheats just so I can get all the door encounter characters reliably. I have yet to get Morton once since I either get the junk trade before Landlord's apartment so I never have the 14 I need or he is in his cursed form when he shows up a 2nd time. I always get Sophie too late. And Xaria and Monty have only shown up once for me and never again.
>>3906993Just use the door encounters mod and save yourself the stress.
Sam's Spider Husk-esque interactions should make him more resilient to Whoops
>>3907034The implications of that are pretty big
>>3906873>Just looking out of curiosity vs glaring having a dramatic difference of what mutation does I could see it
>>3907034>You crumple the notes in your fist.>When you open it, they are gone.
>>3907038The paper is pretty heavy when he lifts it, if he couldn't stand not to look at the photo he's developing then I doubt he wouldn't peek at the infohazard
>>3907039Them being gone implies he's already looked at it and is balling them up instead of putting them down
>>3907039What I understood was that Ways of getting More resistance to infohazards via spider husk would unlock some additional options, like if spider husk does that if imagine that the mask show up in that one in your bedroom encounter you can just tell it to fuck off and developing the picture if you kill Lyle goes more smoothly. So you'd be able to have the note as an inventory item and get a new choice when talking to the exalted four about Sybil where you can just give them the note. I'm sure they can process its implications better. Right?
>>3907009>>3906993Door encounters are seeded to the entire run. There are some ways to manipulate them though, like having the priest bless your home to make the likelihood of cursed encounters much lower, or giving money to the delivery boy so he becomes a vendor rather than a random encounter.
>>3907049I didn't even think donating to the Priest or tipping the Delivery Boy did anything, I just did it because I felt like it
>>3907049Door encounters mod shows you who is there throughout the day, and you can have a bit more control over what's going on, since it also shows you who's in the queue, but I've had it give me stuff out of order regarding party members. Still very useful anyways
Favorite companion side quest?>Sophie (returning her to Harriet)>Dan>Hellen>Lyle>LeighI'm partial to Lyle's even if it takes arguably the longest to complete and doesn't have a material payoff; you can tell cboyardee had a blast writing it. Always thought Papineau should have had a different epilogue in the Promise ending depending on whether you've taken him to the fungal lair and faced his colleagues.
>>3907065Joel's. It's not the same as the others but I like how even as he grows up and lives with Sam he always stays connected to Ben and spends time with him since he loves his brother. I just wish we got to know about Rosie since he is presumably taking care of her now.Man, I love Promise I just wish we got en epilogue though for the other routes regarding our characters too.

>>3907099Frederic I think resisted more than some would due to being better at flaunting subjectivity being a painter with DID and a crazy ego and all that
>>3907100The way someone with DID is affected by it is distinct and manifested in multiple paintings all claiming to be Fred and instead of wanting unity, wanting to kill the others while making the fragment identity that comes out on top the "true" one.It is a different situation from Jeanne who only appears to have one self aware head while the rest appear to be mindless monsters; which I think was a bit disappointing as it would have been creepier if some of the other heads were just as convinced but I guess they already did that bit with Fred and didn't want to repeat it?
>>3907102And I mean even a head that is actually killing peoples representing the ID more and such. Or mimicking true Jeanne to lure you in to attack.
I've played through it once, dropped it on the second run. The combat system doesn't provide much variety.
>>3907104Like I had the impression Jeanne was someone who had repressed anger or such and the Jeanne head we talk to was like the super ego and then it turned out to just be a straightforward looping off the other other heads. I found that oddly disappointing for whatever reason.
>>3907099His enemy type when you use Dan's scan ability is "ascended" (the same as the roof bosses), interestingly enough. Taxidermy, Spore Mother, Furnace, and Lethargy also have that designation.
>>3907104Maybe I'm overthinking it but I found it peculiar that Jeanne is a predatory monster that mauls people like a tiger or raptor would instead of infecting or assimilating like what is more typical of the cursed (the worm fusing that dude to its tongue, the tooth family infecting people, the fucking olm)
>>3907097That scenery is beautiful even if it mostly consists of pulsating, stratosphere-reaching, and (according to Charan) screaming flesh trees

>>3907117Floor two feels a bit incomplete compared to three or the basement, enough places but those places have place holder-y stuff like the lack of character of anyone other than summer in summer's apartment or the writer's apartment being just the boss. Floor one has a good amount going on Ground floor also is like one or two dungeons tops
>>3907128>the writer's apartment being just the bossIt's the only other apartment with a light switch (the first being Edwin/the Stargazer's), kind of weird that there isn't anything more to it.
>>3906721That could actually work if you go the failed ritual route as it reveals man's subjectivity by understanding the concept of Ephemerality (Birth/Youth (Baby Photos)->Adulthood (Marriage Video)->Twilight Years (Portrait of Old Man)->Death(Last Will)), instead of the astronomers offering depictions of the visitor, they are offering their own subjectivity of the state of life on the world and how they are independent from their primogenitor who has existed for countless years.
Why don't anons just work together and write something, make a mod or whatever
>>3907218>the Visitor's eye becomes a fucked up Sam clone
>>3907253>I was thinking more that you fight the real state of the mask, not the disembodied mass of limbs and just the mask alone but a literal copy of Sam wearing the mask with extra shadowy limbs that is a far stronger boss than Sybil. Using a copy of your moveset from your current playthrough.
>>3906831>It just seemed like other people in her apartment but it is made to sound like a constant thing they're doing but it isn't like you get jumped by any hydra heads while exploring the apartment and the spread doesnt go past one corner of the second floor.Frankie originally wanted to make her extend all over the complex (pic related) but he went back on it due to time constraints. I don't think there will be many content updates filling gaps like that unfortunately.
Phillippe's recruitment is my favourite dialogue interaction
>>3907291This makes sense to me, but it has me also imagining they then would have to account for the failure modes (which probably would include 'upgraded' jeanne enemies who represent a jeanne that accepts "she is a monster" who start appearing after day 7 or so, in my head the 'bad side' of her past (which I feel is hinted at?) would be way more visible) and then some facetaker level boss theme for the core ideally. So I can see why it isnt a gap that'll be filled except maybe towards the end of the year if we are lucky. And honestly i'd rather they expand on typewrither or add another ending related to the meat dimension/sybil that connects things with the mask route in some way instead of adding more things currently. Like as cool as 'wormaggedon' endings + ascension boss from an astronomer getting worm'd going to the ritual would be, I feel like that is side DLC type stuff.

I'm thinking Filthy Ring on Sam/Ash is the strat. With Rat Child you can dupe all the Filthy Ring moves too for harder fights. You throw on Tickles too and Rat Crown or Clown Wig and you basically have every element/weakness potentially covered on two characters (quad casting with coat of arms too) and with exception to Clown Wig/Tickles you can have all of this guaranteed pre Sewers. If you have Sophie you could save up cold and shock marbles for Sewers if you get her on day 2 and learn Screamer for guaranteed shock damage in Sewers and then hopefully get one of the two shock weapons from mutt in a pre day 5 sewer run.

Attacking the Visitor not having a proper defeat ending was surprising. Yeah the obliterate but I feel like the fallout of the visitor learning the feeling of anger being that just eyes shifting from curiosity to agitation at this speck causing the mutations to get worse and the gaze to become a glare has potential for a unique bad ending?
>>3907649I guess it probably would be like No Going Back but with more perpetual violence and carnage
>>3907649A "proper victory" ending maybe is achieved by hurting the visitor enough and your mutations giving you higher dmg (your fracturing giving you more limbs to attack with and all that) with the difference being more mask related deals (again) and that leads to a world that is basically unified in hate and that is the only lucidity it has as it veils itself from the universe in a global cloak that festers for centuries until another visit 500 years later accidentally gets too close to earth and it then sprouts endless fractal arms to strangle and attack the visitor, lashing out mindlessly and aimlessly at it and replicating as it touches the visitor in a virus-like fashion.(Just trying to think of how you achieve a virus analog basically)
>>3907660The cloak makes it hard(r) for the visitor to perceive but it maybe is mutating regardless (the splitting) due to the visitor's own perception of it.
>>3907660Maybe it's achievable by having a mask (like the indigo mask) that lets you survive the obliterate, leading the visitor to try to show you the futility of fighting it and that backfiring horribly?
https://x.com/mura_idk/status/2010246917247361409?s=20Someone made a Dan doll.
>>3907649On a related note, the Visitor's only weakness when you initially attack it is flesh damage (which some of Hellen's skills deal).
Like the only way I could imagine "defeating" the visitor is becoming a virus with compounding mitosis, the other horror of the cosmos is how claustrophobic it starts to look when you are self replicating and doubling in count every year.
>>3907660>>3907677>What comet strike actually does
>>3907681The most optimistic fallout of it is you see eons later new life form from the remains of it all, who recount a creation myth that is their own distorted account of what happened. The universe is shown to be full of life unlike our current universe from all the mutated remains. That's the best case, worse case is there just is no life in the region of the universe we inhabit anymore.
>>3907660A Wizard's Hell variant of Final True?
Even after all the updates, Vertigo is still in my top 3 tracks. Glad it was reused in Unity.
>>3907692I'm trying to think of how you still basically do a cathartic good ending in a warped sense. Sam subsumed by a mindless need to win becoming a self replicating virus that rips the visitor apart in a compounding wave of destruction that is like a forest fire. The destruction is vast but it lets new life grow in its wake. Sam simply dies because they quit "the game" after winning. The universe regrows more fragmented and disassociated, much like life sprouting after a fire burning through it. Is it a good ending for humanity? No, no one who is at the start of that cycle would know what actually happened and we'd be long extinct. But maybe it is better for the universe at large compared to all life being consolidated to one cosmic entity. A bit of a subjective judgement I'll admit.
>>3907699>Sam simply dies because they quit "the game" after winningHe'll continue his "mission" until there is nothing left to be recognized as Visitor, a task that will last all eternity, not that Sam doesn't mind that, he only loses interest in suffering when he can't do any more. He's doing what Edwin did but to the Visitor instead>I feel something new. I feel fear.>Please stop.
>>3907702>If the bits of the visitor ripped out by the virus Sam become new worlds with complex life like earth, they would be like countless eyes beginning to look back at the visitor once they gain civilizations, astral_stare^2
>>3907704You know how when an animal gets something stuck to their face and they thrash around trying to get it off?I picture the Visitor doing that while the writhing limbs that were once Sam digs his fingers into it while brutally stabbing and smashing and impaling it with oversized kitchen knives and baseball bats and pool cues
>>3907692He seems way more into Wizard's Hell and other outwardly violent games (Blood Ghoul Orgy 3, Wake the Blood Knight) than MP.
>>3907704>For the visitor, this would be like your blood coming to life and looking back at youCosmic body horror

>>3907712After a point it just is basically multiple cosmic horrors attacking each other in one insignificant part of the universe for reasons that no one even can remember
>You are now LONELY. Being lonely reduces your evasion, and sometimes makes you fail to attack. What if they're a friend...?This status effect existing means that, technically, Sam has some ability to appreciate the friendly clown (as well as abominations trying to kill him).
>>3907741Cosmic horror Sam recruiting civilizations just is roaches all over again
>>3907743>Looking into a reflection nebula upon the start of a cycle>strangely enough, you feel great!>Implication that all ascending did was move you up a few fractal layers>And that it may just keep going upwards forever

This thread made me mildly curious so I watched about 20 seconds of gameplay. This game is fucking disgusting.
>>3908208Incorrect.
>>3908208What's wrong with it?
I don't like how little health Roaches has during Schism. His STM is a bit low too. With 60% agility I've had a number of enemies just freak one shot him before he could get a whip attack/roach wave out. Free coat of arms is neat but it's kinda overkill with him since he already hits twice on his fire attack and three times on lightning.Sophie I think is underrated. Hide works well with a tank drawing aggro and her special marbles lets her do things like go straight to sewers at level 6 and crit Boiler Beast for +300 damage w/ Super Slingshot and paralyze them. The training belt isn't even bad on her to initially make her slightly tankier since most of her stamina moves only cost 1 or 2 points of stamina. Rat Child in comparison likely needs a single STM boosting candy to even use Copy Dad effectively to do a fraction of what Sophie can do with her base kit.Filthy Ring might be a Audrey only item & MAYBE Hellen/Leigh/Papineau/Spider can use it just because you need high HP/STM to really make use of the various skills since the bleed and poison spells which are the most common status effects with Filthy Ring scale off those two stats. Sam with Tickles + Filthy Ring struggles to make use of those abilities cause his HP and Stamina are practically halved. You will have to get him the patchwork set and then feed him a ton of rare candies to really use him with that setup.
>>3908323Joel can use it too obviously but if he has to wait till meat world to put it on - that's only late game/end game useful. And he'd still need STM boosting candies.
>>3908326Joel really doesn't need stamina as much as he wants hp, yeah biting armour is good, but roundsaw jaw is pretty dogshit, and teethstorm is always better. His self heal is also great since it scales but needing more than 18 stm is just skill issue. He's fine without it but you can just give him sapphire ring if you're worried.>>3908323Don't fall for the Patchwork set.. it's only 100 hp in total and that's negligible when you can just wear better armour. Taking 50 damage since you have 50 extra hp instead of taking only 10 dmg vs base health. Unless you're going against something like Jasper... Though reading closer that's with Tickle specifically with the filthy ring, so the raw stats are probably good. And I suppose the bleed resistance is nothing since Tickle will bleed you himself. Furfag set would be shitty since it depletes stmGlad you're spewing some more rat baby hate, he's so fucking bad as a unit, copy dad is good but he requires so much shit you can use anyone else and they'll be better with half the investment.
Killing Jasper locks you out of most the endings lol so whenever would you be killing them
>>3908368Because Jasper is part of an ending, retard? and hes a really hard fight. What are you even arguing about, I'm saying Patchwork set is a good choice with Tickle, but outside of Tickle there's no point since only Jasper does insane bleed stuff

Uh oh marketing fatigue for this game is clearly mounting as evidenced by angry people in the thread. What will you do indie game grassroots marketing firm? Will you choose "lean into shitposting to increase exposure" or maybe go the "have prepared answers for every complaint about the game and the people milhousing it" angle? Kinda seems like the later so far.
>>3908459i love you too
>>3902096Jeanne if you never help her I feel would stay sane more than the game leads you on to think, or at least I feel like her degeneration would be basically relapsing into a past life she had instead of just becoming a mindless hydra monster. Maybe it is me just projecting someone who I knew that said they got past their drug habit and seemed fine for a year only to find out later they relapsed into it hard. At times I feel guilt for not being there for them.
>>3908499>go into her apartment after reaching the basement>the heads are all mauling each other
>>3908361>Joel really doesn't need stamina as much as he wants hp, yeah biting armour is good, but roundsaw jaw is pretty dogshit, and teethstorm is always better. His self heal is also great since it scales but needing more than 18 stm is just skill issue.>He's fine without it but you can just give him sapphire ring if you're worried.I agree completely. He's fine without STM but I am thinking in terms of using Filthy Ring asap with a character. For Joel - he really wants atk boosts for a while - as much as he can get. And if he is forced to run around with zero STM - that's no issue for him. Once he has 300 HP by default it's prob easy to give him the ring. But that prob means he is around level 15 and I want to use it immediately.I am disappointed so far in Filthy Ring + Tickle on Sam - I feel like no one actually looked at how the skills function and just mentioned the combo without using it online. Or how bad it would be trying to copy anything that gives bleeding to base Rat Child that hasn't even matured. I could see it being good on the higher base HP/STM characters. I guess I will see how it performs after I beat Honko and power Sam up. I might go into meat world as well just to salvage Rat Child up a bit later. I got annoyed at how bad the combo + rat child was and swapped to Hellen/Roaches/Audrey to just smash everything that became a problem the moment I got tickles on Sam. I now have salvaged Sam's HP back to 200 & STM back to 50 with patchwork + multiple candies & champions belt which is sad since he could actually be a tank with Hurt Me Plenty and get 600 or more HP in other runs easily.

>>3908503I will say this - I liked the moves from Tickles on Sam despite the stats w/ Filthy Ring and the ability to just instantly cure blindness/bleed/poison with Filthy Ring etc is nice too. I might try Filthy Ring on Audrey next playthrough over Crimson Ring - she has the best HP and STM by default so it could be good and it gives her cheaper STM moves. I'll see about testing Clown Wig with Rat Child later since he will be mature but Rat Child taking till level 12 to get more than 20 STM is frankly dog shit. He should be shooting around the 69 range most of the other characters have for max STM. Instead he is stuck around Joel/Sophie range of 20 max unless Explorer Mode when he is very much an STM focused character and needs STM to be useful unless he spams guns. I think if you want to use him - you should prob stick to explorer mode cause they give you +30 STM on that mode. Otherwise on cursed - I think you NEED to go gambling with the gumball machine on the ground floor to get at least 1 stamina candy (preferrably two STM boosting candies) so he has more than 20 STM to actually copy Sam's skills effectively in a boss fight.I wish Sam's skills were more quickly acquired too. You are stuck always going for the same ones in every playthrough - Jump Attack, Screamer, Painful Stab. And with the 5 day limit to get to Charan so on the 6th day I can go into pit - it is very much that exact order unless I get Gamer to immediately go for Hurt Me Plenty. Roaches is clearly designed to clear Pit and Audrey has all the skills you need for Pit too. I was impressed at how quickly Sophie just hits the ground and is immediately useful in sewers with little need for resources. Might be slightly better than Xaria since she also has 'regenerating' ammo but then more variety in ammo types to deal with various bosses despite not having access to Rifles which I consider the best gun type for the majority of the game just cause of how consistently good Aimed Shot is.
>>3908518>Otherwise on cursed - I think you NEED to go gambling with the gumball machine on the ground floor to get at least 1 stamina candy (preferrably two STM boosting candies) so he has more than 20 STM to actually copy Sam's skills effectively in a boss fight.Miswrote this - you ALWAYS (regardless of difficulty) want to go gambling for a single STM candy just so you can ACTUALLY use Copy Dad in a fight before he matures. He needs it that badly prior to his growth spurt.
>>3908361>Glad you're spewing some more rat baby hate, he's so fucking bad as a uniti don't understand why cursed mode neuters his gains from the growth spurt when it already isn't particularly impactful on survivor outside of letting him use two handers. especially when you consider how cursed in general buffs enemies to varying degrees, you're just putting in vastly more effort to train him for paradoxically reduced gains. NO other party members gets nerfed on cursed to my knowledge (sans papineau, but he's still serviceable without the sash and mackinaw jacket), so it's just a baffling and inconsistent decision. really hope frankie goes back on the nerfed growth spurt in a future patch>>3908518i like the concept of tickle, but a 30% hit to sam's max hp is already pretty rough when he has one of the lower hp pools in the game by default. you could give him the patchwork set and training belt to mitigate it (and make transfusion worth a damn), but you'd honestly be better off just tossing them onto party members that are reliant on having a higher max hp stat for their attacks (teethstorm on joel, bear hug on papineau, vomit on the rust crown user, etc).

>>3906831>It is a bit of an inherent weakness of lovecraftian horror, explain too much and it can 'ruin it'.Trying using any real made laws to explain stuff ruins it, other explanations can be fine but pushing some IRL law and trying to explain it kill the whole thing
>>3892957I haven't played it but I have watched a lot of it and this thing in OP sort of ruins the whole idea for me. The game already feels kinda disjointed between lovecraftian horror and random no-rules weirdshit but when you add this and time travel and alternate dimensions it kind of ruins the world. I think this is the worst, just because you can handwave just about everything else, but a demon car that drives you to hell just has implications beyond being just a cool bossfight. Sure being inside a big guinea pig is bad but imagine surviving the whole incident and not mutating just to go to literal hell forever because you murdered a family of freakish tooth people.
>>3909442It feels like an idea they had for another project but they put it in Look Outside due to 'modern setting' reasons. The other car enemies felt more inline with 'people fused to car' body horror by comparison.
>>3909445Like if they put it in malison it'd be out of place due to being a car. But in look outside it is out of place due to being basically a demon.
>>3909445Maybe by "hell" it meant the meat dimension and the hell talk was just a way to red herring it?
>>3909452Nah, some dude just used Visitor magic to make hell real. If there wasn't a hell before there is now a real hell where real tortured souls go nowOf course its still probably nicer than some fates for the living
>>3909453There are weirdly fantasy themed enemies at times like the rat king or furnace that feel like they'd not be out of place in another game.
Frankie added a new Cursed mode stringency where Leigh needs 10 food items (specifically meat and pizza) before she can join you, and every night she'll eat something from your fridge. The pool cue will also be moved to the second section of her chase.

>>3909460looking forward to all cursed mode updates making Leigh even more voracious in one way or anotherwonder if he'll ever look at giving a cost to the random door recruits. cursed giving actual costs related to most of the main early game party members (Joel/Leigh/Papineau) is cool and adds an extra level of resource management to consider, but it's also fairly silly how you can still nab Dan or Hellen or whatever for free still
How would a self imposed challenge like "party member perma death" (just make any party member who died in combat leave at the apartment instead of reviving them) go?
>>3909687It depends, would dying and being revived by the Indigo Mask still count as a permadeath?
>>3909707Probably not as that's the point of the item
>>3907564The stat penalties from Filthy Ring are bad enough, Tickle on top makes it unmanageable.Though I do know that the Poison Strength skill from it can be pre-cast and seems to last until the end of the next fight.
>>3909808yeah I tried this and ended up restarting because the stat penalties were too immense and rat child/sam did not have the HP/Stamina to use any of this effectively. You need to have obscene hp/stamina to really make filthy ring any useful beyond curing your own status effects/healing/replenishing stm. For Audrey it gives her access to very cheap attacks that actually do real damage - especially with champions belt on + some hp/stm candies to get her into the 500 hp range and +100 stm range. Hellen has better abilities just from a coat of arms to spam stalk/stab (which is also fairly cheap STM wise for obscene damage that filthy ring cannot compete with). Spider already has stamina drain moves so he doesn't care beyond maybe the self heals, some of the non elemental attacks, and status cures. Papineau has the ability to heal himself/replenish stamina + use his sandwich for a self buff to +25% max hp/stm so he can somewhat replicate Audrey's damage with the ring. Leigh just gets options that aren't transforming into Beast/spamming weapon skills but then she can never use Martin's Ring so she doesn't give a fuck.
>>3910019Spider actually can get 50% damage resistance from filthy ring easily off of bleeding. Which might be one of the only ways to fix his terrible defense.
https://files.catbox.moe/h9jlk5.mp4Man this video is so dumb but to me this is how Philippe sounds, it just fits. Kind of monotone and quiet.
>>3910019Yeah one of the "problems" with Filthy Ring is that most of the characters have better options. It's basically Audrey, since the stat penalties don't matter much to her, or Dan, but only if you have bad luck getting him an Eye Pendant. The best moves it has scales with HP. The biggest HP characters are...Audrey, Hellen, Papineau, Lyle, Leigh, Phillipe. Also Joel if you Devour with him. They all either have better damage options, have better equipment options, or have diverse enough attack options that the Disease skills never really come up.>>3910173In my mind he sounds like Cobra Commander/Starscream.
>>3910175I could see moth feep sounding like that, but it's really funny to imagine him sounding like SS too. I like the idea of his disguise being moeblob screech but moth being a normal guy sounding
Has anyone gotten far with a Strait Jacket Dan?
>>3910190Do his stats justify it? Or is it a "he doesn't need weapons anyway," thing?
>Dont help jeanne>the feral heads expand in scale of activity (Sophie's mother probably is fucked) and get smarter on later days instead of mutating physically, start using weapons and at times even are "dubious neutral" (think like what happens with Nestor taking over Eugene or a couple of the Freds, so yeah don't hug them) instead of plain hostile.I keep having that idea even when mutating clearly tends to often be physical
>>3910175It's both STM and HP that it scales with. I'm thinking it might be Audrey, Spider, Hellen, Papineau, Lyle, Phillipe and then maybe Joel later on when he doesn't want to stack ATK buffs. Leigh I'm ruling out since Martin's ring is just a way better setup. Hellen could get away with it but unlike Papineau she isn't stuck with Crush only for a scaling damage type so she doesn't care. Pap has better self healing options to ignore the status eff and actually wants to buff his HP up and run Pickelhaube to draw aggro. But because he doesn't scale as well we can sideline him later in the game when we don't want to use him or the filthy ring anymore - he's kind of a prepromote anyway - we can maximize his utility and high stats with the ring to carry through more sections or go into problem areas earlier and then bench him later.Spider might not care about any of the weaknesses of the ring since it gives him more damage types to deal with more enemies having shadow resistance and because he can easily replenish his own STM he can make better use of burning spells which scale off current STM more easily. Spider's HP (336) is third highest after Audrey (436) and Hellen (356) and his stamina also reaches 102 at level 20 which gives him one of the highest STM maxes (102) and ties with Hellen for 2nd place in regards to stamina stat. 50% damage resistance + self heal.Lyle has a self heal in big chomp along with Phillipe (consume ally) - Phillipe has options but because of how extreme consume ally is as a skill - he can actually get better stats than Audrey easily to actually spam Filthy Ring. At 3 allies consumed at level 20 - he has 498 HP and 138 STM before we calculate for stuff like filthy ring's stat loss or champion belt/stat boosters/armor etc. And he has passive HP and STM regen to help spam all the attacks and ignore certain status effects like bleeding. Granted he is always gonna be one of the last characters to join every run outside of door encounters.
>>3910256I just realized the Vampire Jacket and Blood Cap were made exclusively for Phillipe since 6% HP Regen from Consume Ally x3 outweighs the combined 5% hp loss from having both equipped. Was wondering who to give those two items too since crimson ring only gave 3% HP regen.
>>3910262Yeah. Phillipe has reactions to Tickle, too. His insane stats allow various fringe tactics with Glitch statuses, too.>>3910256Part of the problem remains that you have trouble getting the status effects you want, when you want. It's why I focus on Poison, Disease and Blind for it. Poison and Blind you can self apply, but they scale with Level mostly. Disease has HP scaling acid attack, at least, and it has a Def boost, too, so it can help Audrey tanking.
>>3910231If nothing else, it'd make him immune to panic (Freak Out) and rage (Meltdown).
>>3910278Oooooh, I keep thinking of Dire Straits, but you're right, that's huge!
>>3910190>>3910278That sounds really useful with Dan actually. Making Freak Out and Meltdown not apply status effects means I can use them far more often. He has pierce by default with Vicious Remarks and can still spam slashing damage with Eye Amulet & Blind Fury. With the Straight Jacket he can then spam Crush and Blast damage for stronger enemies that are resistant to Pierce or Slash. Having all three of the physical types means he can usually do reliable damage to an enemy even if he has to give up guns/elemental weapons. And Blast gives him a strong option for enemies that resist Pierce/Slash/Crush anyway. And you can use Dire Straights for a cheaper crush option + regular attack. Not bad.
>>3910275If you wanted to spam Blind Fury on Dan you prob want both the glasses (20% hit buff) and Aster (15% hit buff) in the party so Dan can still have a 85% hit rate with Filthy Ring's Blind Rage. And you def want the extra poison items from the Fungal Area aside from the rotten leftovers and the Mad Pie pizza for maxing out potential stamina regen. I'm uncertain on disease since it is a 20%/40% decrease to stats.

I might try the Copy Dad strat with the SMGs on Ash and the high powered revolver/shotgun/rifles on Rat Child. I prob want Coat of Arms on Ash so I can use Aim The Killshot (Garrison is prob the weaker of the two) then SMG Burst (4 attacks) or Spray and Pray (8 attacks). Apparently it allows you to only copy the stamina requirements with fire arms and ignores the ammo requirements so only Ash's firing counts towards ammo used.

>>3910647I'm trying it on cursed, it's been a massive fucking hassle so farRat is just a complete waste of space before level 12 so he can equip a rifle, and even once he's gotten there the strategy takes too many turns and too much stamina to execute for most fights so you still need strong carry party members anyway to get through fights that SHOULD be trivial without using a lot of suppliesIt's dumb
>>3910859Rat baby is literally not even a useable character until level 12 and EVEN FUCKING THEN he is so painfully mid afterIn every single super boss I fought I felt like there was always a better party member I could've used instead of him and that he contributed absolutely nothing. He is an item slave, but even as an item slave he's so goddamn squishy that he's not worth it. You explained my exact problem with him though, copy dad takes up too much time to set up, all for a result you could've had with 10x less hassle, resources and setupAlso, yeah and even if it does copy only the STM requirements fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck did it ONLY ever do super shitty damage for me, I just kinda wheeped. I felt like replying to you about that, but thought euh....he'll find out
>>3910876I found it easier to build him for melee and give him Glitch Rage. Odd Necklace, Indigo Hockey Mask and a super durable weapon. He cleaned up nicely.
>>3910876The bug that lets him use an item even after it's been depleted is getting fixed in the next update, which takes away like the only thing that made him useful (other than cutesy apartment interactions).
>>3910879Yuh, I ended up going for that in the end with hellsword and that one good comatus pose, but man...I still never found his damage that good with all of that setup, which is so bruh.Mid game was so irritating, and when I did the Mask fight and started using Sophie as my dps, he became the heal slut, since that's all he's good for atp. Sam was pretty worthless too but he's a nice buffer >>3910880I kinda figured that'd be fixed since if you had quantity left he'd use it and if you didn't he still would, but that's so stupid. Why does Frankie hate him so much
>>3910859>>3910876I think a real issue with Rat Child is that Copy Dad never works on the first turn. Even queueing it up before a fight via menu - it still doesn't work on turn 1. And I'd rather kill the enemy turn 1 or 2 than kill them with weaker but still very strong burst and better durability than on turn 2 & 3 with massive burst. You just use far less stm/healing/items/ammo etc going for turn 1/2 kills. He is still way too resource, arm, and time intensive and then other characters just easily do what he does and then some.

Did Dan know his mom was mutated before going to get his console? He seemed uneasy when his name was initially called.
>>3911085>Dan having to see his chat say "would" when we fight his mother
>>3910911if copy dad>worked on turn 1 when casted before a battle starts>copied Sam's action immediately after it happens rather than at the end of a turnthen it might be a somewhat unintuitive yet rewarding skill to play around. especially when you're playing on cursed, there are certain threats that you will want to kill as quickly as possible, and copy dad being such a delayed skill (activating on the end of the second turn at the EARLIEST). if you're willing to spend some time on set up for a fight, you're better off just relying on setting up swarms with roaches then firing off its respectable variety of elemental attacks.
>>3911079Why?What's wrong with Jeannefags?
>>3892957The fight music is pretty cash money.
>>3911094They are not mentally prepared for what happens to apartment 22 if they don't return the laundry.
>>3911093Another thing with statuses is you could stack multiple statuses on said turn 1 - some of which might make turn 1 and 2 maybe 3 actually safe. Roaches mostly stacks bleeding + roaches but could add disease or poison as well. Other characters like Spider, Phillipe, and Sophie can just go for near every lockdown at once. Even Roaches can just spam Fire or Thunder on first turn and ignore spreading roaches if the enemy is weak to fire/thunder to get burn or paralyze immediately active. But if you are doing copy dad and going for some obscene damage play - you likely don't do anything like that till the end of turn 2 as you said and it's mostly just gonna be obscene burst damage of which other characters like Joel, Hellen, Dan etc could have done over turn 1/2 immediately with a coat of arms. Hellen might even land a freak paralyze turn 1 with a prod and obscene damage with stalk into stab or massacre. Rat Child a ton of effort for eh results and they do little other than the burst damage because crap survivability and need to be carried to the fight even after i get a ton of gear + skills where as with other characters I am running Door Encounter mod and ilI know I am going to get Hellen day 2 and then Dan day 3 and it's just gg.
>>3911107Thankfully, there's no situation where a Jeannefag would actually do that

I felt like I was going crazy with Katana Zero and it's final boss too lol till I saw him say he did it.I thought I'd be told to kill myself for posting unrelated game. Nice to see Frankie is in on it too. It looks pretty solid and I'm gonna try the demo in a bit.
>Sam played the NES as a child>is either in his late 20s or his 30s depending on how Frankie feelsThe game takes place in the early to mid 2010s.
So I just found out I didn't have to kill Joel, and I'm not really enjoying the game due to lack of party members making it basically impossible to do anything. Any way to turn this into a win for me or should I just restart? I don't really like dealing with things like this. The game is hard enough and I don't want to inadvertently make the game hard for myself.
>>3911573Your son is the best unit in the entire game, it definitely is worth resetting for. But if you make it to the first floor there is a free party member who is pretty good too. Also I'm assuming you ran away from one too, if you beat them you can recruit them as well.
>>3911573If you missed out on Leigh (the thing that chases you on the second floor), stay home and play video games until a recruit comes to your door. Besides the three you start with and the one you find in Vincent's apartment, there's an extra game in your bookshelf (keep interacting with it) that gives you an AoE skillThere's also a temporary recruit on Floor 1 near one of the elevators, but you'll have to give him a sandwich (bread + pork/chicken/tomato can/egg) in exchange
>>3911576>>3911577So to be clear, is this a game where you're expected to abandon your runs repeatedly to try and do things more efficiently? I'm asking because this is a game that I'm streaming for some friends and if that's the case, I don't want them to have to sit through me redoing things. Basically I wasn't aware of how similar this game was to something like F&H where it's just redoing and optimizing things or otherwise pure struggling.
>>3911579It's not at all, it's just that if you're playing survivor instead of explorer which was made for newfags then you have no one else to blame that the game is too hard for you.I never struggled once and I went in blind. This is just skill issue
>>3892957Started playing this, that intro is so good when the music kicks in. Just died to the guardian rat.
>>3911579I killed Joel and ran away from Leigh on my very first playthrough and still got through the early game because someone came to my door. I wouldn't really call it a trial and error game, especially seeing as there's a free recruit on the Ground Floor bathroom for people who have only one party member or lessAs an aside, crafting is also a very useful mechanic, for example if you have cloth you can make bandages with Medicell or Purocare, molotovs with whiskey, and fire bombs with gasoline
>>3911579It's a lot more forgiving than F&H. As long as you explore, you can save frequently. And you're not at risk of being dismembered in every encounter, but it does share the feature in F&H where you have to judge on the overworld whether an enemy is worth fighting or not, whether it's something strong that might waste too many of your resources.
>>3911596I have been playing on survivor. I had no idea that it was going to be this tedious, as I assumed like most RPGs or even horror games that easy mode would be ridiculously easy, often even playing on hard is more fun than normal. I think F&H is the only other game I've played where the easiest difficulty was the default one. If this is not the ideal difficulty I'm happy to switch. I'm not saying that it isn't a skill issue; I'm trying to figure out if the way I'm supposed to play this game is well-suited to relaxing with friends or if it's just going to be me looking things up or dying over and over trying to figure out game mechanics. The game does not explain things well and if I'm supposed to be repeatedly resetting or restarting to avoid screwing myself over, that will adjust how I play and make me reconsider streaming it.>>3911602>>3911604I do have Sophie at least, though I don't really know how to use her effectively. I'm just frustrated because I don't feel I understand what the game wants from me and I don't like feeling like I'm constantly fucking up. I'm aware I could probably be using resources better, but I also don't know what resources are valuable and what is worth spending to save something else. Bullets, money, crafting, all types of consumables, I just have no idea what I'm doing. I at least know now that it's worthwhile to play games at the start, which is unintuitive, and that I could get party members from that or some other tricks early, but I would have not found these out for a while without being told, which goes against like half the stuff I see which says to play blind.
>>3911632You'd have to fuck up catastrophically to have to restart the game. Like you'd have to have multiple bad expeditions where you use more resources than you find, and save your game knowing that each time. It's basic rpg (and survival horror) stuff, just hoarding resources, it's not hard.
>>3911632>SophieAside from the special marbles she picks up during battle and at night, use her Hide ability. She should have access to at least Confusion and Blind at her current level
>>3911636Typically I am blowing through skill points like crazy because if I don't I'll take damage that needs to be healed. Perhaps I'm meant to be using the gun or marbles? But these are even more limited.
>>3911136Soaring the world from toxic Jeanne X Harriet yuri
>>3911596Survivor's perfectly fine for a new player experienceThe game starts out hard, but it's doable. I didn't get any party members until Papineau on the ground floor in my first run
>>3911648>>3911632Sophie is the GOAT. playing without her now feels like I'm gimping myselfAlways hide, use tricks and when you get it, chaos is overpowered. Use that for easy game and SNOOZE with dotKINOshe's a squishy dodgetank but she's superb as a status merchant and eventually, bullet dealer Every resource is infinite if you keep Eugene alive, food is the best way to heal so go back home.
>>3911632You should be fine to just play through the game pretty normally without restarting. Actually completing the main objectives doesn't take a whole load of time, so if you're struggling, spend a bit more time at home playing vidya for new skills and fishing for helpful door encounters + party members. Once you have a few party members for turn economy, the game very quickly gets much more manageable.Failing that, you now know about Leigh and Joel, so if you do decide you have to restart to get through the game, it'll be a lot easier. If I was to offer one piece of advice on top of that, I'd say don't use the key in the first guy's apartment on the safe you see right in front of you; the safe in the tooth family's apartment has a rifle in it, which will really help you early on and can even be used as a decent non-breakable blunt weapon in some circumstances.
>>3911632It's really hard to screw yourself over in this game. If I were you I would stay home more and play games. It will get you skills and if you are lucky some party door encounters.
Alright I think I've got a better idea on how I should be playing. What I'll do:Restart on easy, taking advantage of the infinite saves to really consider what is worth fighting and if it's worth it to fight right nowOptimize my actions earlier on to get more party members and skillsPlay around more with crafting and cooking to see what is worth making
>>3911682Don't restart on easy. Trust me, with a few party members, you'll be fine to go through normal mode.
>>3911674>If I were you I would stay home more and play games. It will get you skillsAw shit. This dev gives you the real c&c.
>>3911687Hmm I don't know, I still am tempted to restart. But if I do, I might stay on normal.
>>3911697>>3911682Just surviving 15 days gives you an ending. This game encourage multiple playthroughs by doing things differently. You could for now just fuck around. But yeah I also would recommend to restart on normal if you do.

>>3911752I've seen people lewd Fred Bro he's made of paint
>>3911829Real Fred is one of the more attractive human/humanoid characters but, yeah, those kisses would be nasty.
>>3911107We have next to no idea what'd happen lolJeanne's character does not really give that much to work off of. Could just be the non-feral/ID head gets killed by the others, could be the feral heads start reflecting some past life she tried getting past and they start to do stuff human criminals do, could be they are just mindless monstrosities that get more fucked up. No fucking idea at all.

This is what you look like.
>>3911910Of course!!!

>>3911913Dan's chat said Would to the feral heads ripping people apart...Yeah actually it does make sense that mauling people to shreds isn't a dealbreaker to the people who watch his show

Pic related upsets me more than anything in the tooth apartment.
>>3911923Are we sure those feral heads signify anything about Jeanne? We know that other guy in the basement who has an ID head issue too and it didn't seem to implicate them as having a secret bad side or whatever

>>3892957The painter quest is a pain in the ass. I guess I'm supposed to go somewhere else? It seems urgent and someone else mentioned the painting. I almost got the fucking thing out, I didn't know killing all of them for the parasite hat entails fighting a boss that just directly overpowers me at level 7. Good fucking grief I tried to solve that four different ways and play through being held hostage by the hat but it keeps kicking me in the nuts. How the fuck am I supposed to accurately gauge what can kill me and what can't?
>>3912036Only thing that kinda can is Dan's Chat that gives you stats for enemies including their level, but outside of that the combat music will change to "run away" if the enemy is overleveled but failing an escape gets punitive.
>>3912036On your next playthrough, pick up the hat, sell it to the ground floor shopkeep, then talk to the green Fred. His reaction will make up for at least some of the trouble he put you through.
>>3912036>The painter quest is a pain in the ass. I guess I'm supposed to go somewhere else? It seems urgent and someone else mentioned the painting. It's not urgent. Nothing I can think of really is urgent outside of two time-gated events, one of which is for a hidden event and one of which only rewards you with some specific gear. Some of the Freds who can talk will have clues for you about which painting is the correct one, but strictly speaking the objective of grabbing the painting is separate from the objective of killing the fake Freds. You don't have to finish all the paintings off urgently, and you don't even necessarily have to learn which one is the real Fred. The real one even says 'OK whatever I guess some of them are nice' if you tell him you don't want to kill them.>How the fuck am I supposed to accurately gauge what can kill me and what can't?There's no real way to tell how dangerous a monster is except for how generally threatening they look, outside of Dan's scan as >>3912038 mentions. Don't stress too much though; like I said, not much in the game is immediately urgent when you see it, so if they kick the shit out of you, you can just go somewhere else and do something else to try and gather more equipment, party members, consumables, ammo, levels etc before you come back.

I pretty much got all the knowledge about this quest now and completed it, what I wanted to do was kill all the painters except the one holding me hostage and the one I think is real, to see if I can double cross the fatfuck holding me hostage. The game is telling me I have the freedom to not do this immediately so it's my fault I'm just banging my head against a wall.
>>3912251Rip Frankie, hope he had fun at least. I kinda doubted it would win since when has an rpg maker game ever won anything, but still stings to read lol
>>3911648As long as Sophie has less than 14 "basic" marbles, she'll spawn +4 every morning along with a few rare ones. She also has a chance to just randomly spawn some too, as you wander. So use her basic marbles often. They're mostly holding her back.As for Stamina, the flesh door in Lyle's apt has the Space Truckerz game. Beat that to get Long Haul Flow, which lets your Sam go on auto attack to recover ~30% stamina over three turns. Make judgements on when a fight it almost over, and pop it as late as you can. Then you can save all your stamina recovery for Sophie.

>>3912334refreshments does feel a bit overturned lolgroup heals are generally extremely limited in how often they can be found and used in a battle (pap's share lunch, medic in a jar, healing sprays; although that last one is a separate issue when considering how plentiful mushrooms are even on cursed), so being able to constantly fire off +100 heals on a turn by turn basis is fairly obscene in comparison. most engagements are short enough that you can get by with just one or two uses per battle, and it's not unreasonable to dump your standby elixirs on Audrey for the more prolonged ones

The sit and play videogames until a trader comes, then sell it to them. Enjoy one of the best "holy shit it's version 2.1 and they haven't patched this yet" softlocks in the game.
>>3913135Retard, you can just get a party member the next day. It's not even a soft lock at all.Why would Frankie fix you being a dumbass when there's also a fork, and a golf club you can equip
>Fred's apartmentThe resolution to the cowboy hat was actually so satisfying. I thought there's a good chance I'd get softlocked, I didn't expect the solution to be having party members. I wish Ernest was here to complete the squad.
>>3913208None of those will let you walk through the door, dumbass. The dialog says I don't want to go through there without a weapon. The golf club and those other weapons are also inaccessible because you have to go through that door in order to make the zombies burst out of Victor's apartment. Even if you buy another melee weapon or get one out of Joel's apartment you still can't walk through. The flag is tied to you equipping that exact baseball bat for some reason.
>>3913516If you sell that baseball bat before equipping it you can not walk in on the neighbor stabbing himself or get the keys to the stairwell or enter Victor's apartment. Equipping another weapon does not fix it. That's why it's a "holy shit" level of soft lock right at the first of the game.Your game becomes limited to the third floor until day 15. And limited to the day 15 ending. Enjoy.
>>3913135Someone should bring that up in his Twitch or Youtube chat tonight if he does end up streaming.
>>3913517>>3913516You're literally retarded that doesn't happen on cursed. Don't be a shitter and play on survivor and this won't happen.>.t just tried on both modes
>>3913530It only happens on survivor? Neat. It's weird that Frankie accounted for it in Lumpy mode but didn't catch it there. I've beaten it on cursed ironman with perfect ritual and final true btw. I've also gotten every ending except the ones where you die to or run from the last boss, because I'm built different. I also only have about 20 achievements left to get... But yeah, survivor is the default difficulty and that bug is probably both a newb filter and a quick fix at the same time.

>>3913638Most people aren't doing the mask route route and replaying a 30 hour game with RNG on which recruits you get multiple times is an ask. And cursed mode is BSThe fuck you mean Joel needs TEN toothpastes? Yeah he has more teeth but it's like just his head, one tube at most really.
>>3913665It feels like artificial difficulty that takes options away from you instead of difficulty that comes from making the apartment even more a hellscape and that's kinda annoying.
>>3913666I'd take recruit perma death (unconscious party members have an "unconscious health" like in left 4 dead maybe) over harder recruiting in all honesty
>>3913668(And escaping while a party members is unconscious is easier but it means losing that party member)
>>3913665>Not using the character who solos every single boss fight in the entire game through raw numbers even with a resistant type because of 8 (not ten) toothpaste Guh ??Also I didn't know that the bosses were a cursed exclusive, I don't play on the easy difficulties anymore since I like the extra content.>>3913669no fuck that

>>3914571>Beryl's and Jasper's apartment numbers (15 and 26) are listed on the ledger in Apartment 31, yet they cannot be accessed. We should get the key to Jasper's apartment upon killing him along with the Roof Access Key.
Shades feel like some different lineage of monster, unsure why the gaze would cause representations of concepts like feeling like you are drowning or your obsession when the visitor is shown to have limited perspective on self.
>>3914594I guess maybe I fuck up on wrapping my head around be because it just goes against my own understanding of cursed as the tragic result of identity tortured matter our consciousness contorts and chains from being one with the visitor again, making the cursed beyond depressing to think about at times, seeking to return but confined to the casket of our individuality. "The truth setting you free" in the Unity ending was the matter overthrowing your conscious self. I wonder if they feel the someone consumed by xin amon does.
>>3914594Isn't Mask connected to the Shades? If so then that means they're bits of Sam.
>>3914601Monsters like Obsession and Drowning seem more connected to Sybil and summer so I don't think they're all shades connected
>>3914606Maybe it is a world where there are ghosts and they also got cursed by the visitor? Not too outlandish if Aunt Wilma is actually an ancient Egyptian mummy and not simply cursed.
>>3914607Wait no that doesn't line up as the shades don't represent the dead
>>3914608Maybe it is ego demon stuff given the consciousness of the self and they're a byproduct of flaunting individuality.
>>3914610Like with SybilSuper ego: apartment 35 SybilEgo: obsession ID: meat world
>>3914611There isn't any consistent patternsJust stuff that seems to reoccur
>>3914612The gambling analogy is the most accurate one, you may mutate into one of the 124 gods, get to be a boss level cursed reveling in that power until something destroys you or just a random cursed body horror that longs for death or just be more slop for the flesh tree
>>3914611The original beta having Sybil be a subattennae of the visitor has the obvious problem that it'd call into question why that didn't curse you so I can see why it was dropped. And in cursed mode apparently having to fight cursed party members initially was a part of it but that got cut due to the complexity add.
Cursed Sophie probably would be a slingshot fused with a human or some shit like that I just know it
>>3914613Judging by the No Going Back ending, the latter seems to be more common.Looking back at the Visitor's proprioception, I'm noticing more and more that Cursed are simulacra thereof: fractal hands, body-mouths, countless eyes, etc.
>>3914620And at times, even getting the e e l look.
>>3914601Yep, the shades become stronger the longer you are away from the apartment, so that actually makes sense. The shades reflect Sam's own mental state, the people who join him can see them due to connection. Recall the Bus mutants and how they mostly consisted of hands in some way, the driver is said to have a very high form of connection since the people trust the driver to transport them safely and the driver has to keep an eye on the steering wheel, meaning the first thing he saw after exposure was his hands.
>>3914623>Couldnt recruit hand people despite them being able to regain sanity.Maybe RPGMaker makes giving someone 10 weapons too tedious mechanically.
>>3913638Are those bosses you fight in a true ending scenario, or are they always optional? I got to a final boss on the roof but the only enemies I'm aware of that I haven't killed are Summer, Daryl, some stuff in the sewers, and that huge worm thing in the flesh maw room.I'm getting a lot of achievements by killing bosses/minibosses that all have an achievement rate of about 25%, my assumption would be those players just haven't progressed that far.
>>3914628what would be the point of that? there's only so many worthwhile weapons to begin with, why allocate half of them to one party member
>>3914639My inventory gets full of cleavers and knifes and it'd be nice to have a guy I can hand that stuff to
>>3914642Weapons didnt really seem to break often in my run to the point I got through the game with there being only 1-2 times I used duct tape.

>>3914611The real story is as it says following any of the Sybil paths, that the building and most of its residents is an extension of Sybil - including Sam. Sybil was transformed into it or "created a copy of her apartment building' when viewing the visitor. Most of the residents save for those who wandered in from outside, are reconstructed from her memory, and yet being husks having eyes and false memories are not immune to looking outside and being transformed. The basement is constructed of what her fear of the basement is like, vs anything that resembles a normal basement, because she has never been there. Sam is her animus (male half as opposed to anima) come to life. Sam has no past and no future. No job and very little purpose except as Sybils heroic drive to change the circumstance somehow. The shades manifest as projection of Sybils fears the longer Sam is away - from Sybil. Meanwhile the visitor is completely unaware and apathetic about these circumstances, through cosmic error it simply has the uncontrolled power to transform living cells through the transmission of it's image.
