Merry Christmas, orcbro. But seriously, for your own wellbeing, stop visiting this place while on trip.
>>
>>3895737
Cheers! I think it is a fun time – but I would. Very choice-heavy, like Green, though tonally quite different. Once I have sent Ash and Fire to HG I'll start work on a Green DLC (maybe after a week or so break from writing anything). I plan for it to be around 250K, so I *should* be able to get it done quickly. I hope I can get the final product off to HG before the end of next year, maybe sooner, depending on how things go with the WIP. It will be nice to focus on a single path and not drown in a huge project. Any preference for the DLC?
>>
>>3895738
Yeah, you are right. I won't do it often. I don't think I can be punished for spreading season's greetings in the non-political spirit of peace and joy to all men and women.... I'll probably scarper until I actually have a product to shill... To be fair, I have enjoyed a few threads of actual good talk about IF games here; I think the market needs it. But I bow to your advice.

I wish people would actually write more urban fantasy stories, vampire games are shit, and I am solely sustained bythe Keeper series.
>>
>>3895756
I feel like the Urban Fantasy genre peaked with stuff like Wayhaven & Keeper Series. Then you had authors that cashed in on the craze with books like Blackstone Academy, The Fernweh Saga, Witchcraft U & The Shadow Society and it kind of oversaturated the genre.
Then The Superhero craze hit with Heroes Rise & Fallen Hero and the same happened with others cashing in and flooding the genre with superhero stuff. Community College Hero, Hero or Villain, Grand Academy for Future Villains.
Is it Eastern stuff now with Samurai of Hyuga into Path of the Martial Arts or is it World of Darkness stuff (already had some before the Paradox collab with Choice of Vampire, Blood Moon & Werevolves Trilogy)

Worst one was Golden. Stop me if it seems familiar
>By birth, and association, you are one of the most famous people in the big city of Lehsa. Your father’s the mayor, and you’re from a bright, vibrant, bustling city… and yet, until recently, you didn’t realise all the secrets yourself and the city held.
>Humans amongst supernaturals, humans amongst half-supernaturals, all whilst the latter live in hiding.
>Then, you find yourself, and your birthmark, at the centre of a high-profile mystery. A double homicide.
>You’re not a killer. The group of supernaturals you’ve been pushed to join forces with aren’t the killers either, yet here you are with no choice but to fight and clear your names.
>You’ll be side by side with a bunch of supernaturals, and whilst discovering yourself, you’ll discover a whole lot more… or you’ll lose everything you know in the blink of an eye.
>Go on a crazy adventure with an unlikely group: solve a mystery or two, learn from one another, create your little found family.
>Romance any of the four (supernatural) romantic options; The ros are:
>the demigod/dess: Their heart is under lock and key, but they wouldn’t mind it being opened
>the werewolf: They stayed soft in a world so hard.
>the vampire: It’s all just bravado to keep them safe. Be their safety net.
>the witch/warlock: They’re pure magic, darling.

people hated the original though? i could’ve sworn one of the original complaints about the book were it’s grammar and punctuation errors, how unoriginal the story itself was, the bland characters, romances and main character, or how it was a wayhaven clone

>how unoriginal the story itself was, the bland characters, romances
I ve never really seen that myself. I liked the characters way more than the Wayhaeavan characters. I liked the secret romance with the Father. And the story had just enough potential to become an interesting political mystery, if the continuation developed the actual shadow society further.

Yeah but it is a wizard power trip in a way given the absurd amount of ways Mages attempt to approach the root or expand their power. Like the one dude doing tons of human child sacrifices, or the guy milking dudes into crystals, or the CIA turning a city into a warzone. It's an alternative form of wizard power tripping.
>>
>>3895831
>>3895843
I suppose I should give some examples but like Kiritsugu's dad was basically on the cusp of having complete control over time at no consequence, for instance. Aoko gets raw fuck huge mana beams, there's a lot of cool shit. It helps that it has no actual rules though, because Nasu is just like "wow that's cool" but he has some raw autism over not letting Wizards be main characters.
>>
>>3895434
>person takes focus drugs that work on anyone at all
>"This means I have ADHD!"
Aderall addicts always giving excuses. That being said, performance enhancing drugs are good. It's performance reducing drugs that are bad. He should stay on it.
>>
>>3895853
>Aoko gets raw fuck huge mana beams
this is magic and you need to reach the root or inherit it.
> Kiritsugu's dad was basically on the cusp of having complete control over time at no consequence
it fucked up his body and that's why his dad was trying to become immortal, so he could use the crest without consequences. in the fight vs kirei he only does so well because he has avalon inside of him. we dont see him in fate stay night because he put avalon inside shirou and the stress from the time magecraft had lowered his lifespan
>>
>>3895863
>the stress from the time magecraft had lowered his lifespan
Didn't the mud give him a gigacancer?
>>
>>3895863
A little bit of both, but you wanted Wizard Power Fantasy. Fate is very much that, but only for the winners. Also I think it's important to note that Kirei was also cheating quite hard as well using Crest mana to produce knives instead of his own so that he could avoid Kiritsugu's boner bullet. I kind of find it a bit fascinating that Urobutcher had more of an understanding and autism for the application of a Fate character's Origin than Nasu himself. The last time it was relevant was maybe Kara no Kyokai I think? And even then, it was mere character personality outside of the blonde dude.
>>3895866
Yes, it gave Shirou more gigacancer though which is why justice-fag Emiya decided to give Shirou Avalon.
>>
>>3895732
Based and wholesomepilled. Merry Christmas based Orcbro
>>
>>3895866
I read it years ago but I think in the light novel it said that it made the damage he had prior permanent and fucked up his magic circuits
>>3895871
>Yes, it gave Shirou more gigacancer though which is why justice-fag Emiya decided to give Shirou Avalon.
Shirou didn't get fucked up by the grail mud since he wasnt literally in it like Kiritsugu so Avalon purified lingering stuff. Kiritsugu was too corrupted.
>I think it's important to note that Kirei was also cheating quite hard as well using Crest mana to produce knives instead of his own so that he could avoid Kiritsugu's boner bullet
Yeah Kirei did cheat with command seals but can you blame him? Avalon kept bailing Kiritsugu out the entire fight.
>Urobutcher had more of an understanding and autism for the application of a Fate character's Origin than Nasu himself.
Origins dont really matter that much unless you awaken them. We don't see them mentioned in Mahou no Yoru, Tsukihime, or FSN.
>A little bit of both, but you wanted Wizard Power Fantasy.
That wasn't me lol.
>>
>>3895879
You're right my bad, replied that wizard power fantasy to the wrong guy. Yeah origins aren't a big deal but we see how they can matter a lot more with /Fate: Zero than we do with Nasu's work. Granted, it can be pure Urobuchi conjecture for how the setting works. Yeah though, you bring up good points for the rest of the stuff. Zero was a pretty fucked situation though for everyone involved.
>Shirou didn't get fucked up by the Grail mud
Supplementary material in HA and Ilya sort of show that bad mana leaks into the air, and Shirou being a child probably makes him more susceptible I think.

It doesn't exactly map to any concrete historical analogue like that. The conflict the series will be going into is kinda like the English Civil War, but then the actual political make-up is more like Late Middle Ages than anything, and there's a whole additional layer of Tierra being essentially a South American country...And then there are also the unwashed masses slowly becoming class-conscious... And then the main conflict of the first two conflict is even more divorced from any historical reality simply because Antar isn't actually like any of the Eastern Euro countries at the time.
If you feel a pressing need to read up on something, it can be the emergence of the modern state in broad strokes. Maybe brush up on Latin American politics in 19th century. If we're really stretching it, maybe throw in some Bakumatsu in there. It's not really needed desu.
>>
>>3896104
its a situation where you are just the third world country used as a proxy for the real big boy country's conflicts. it doesn't really matter in the end which side you pick, it will just be trading one master for another

What do I read next, /vrpg/?
I read Lords of Infinity which I liked, and I read the VTM games. I liked Parliament of Knives and kinda the werewolf one even though it was wacky. I know the author of Lords has a new WoD game but I have less than zero interest in playing as a hobo in vancouver and everything I've heard about hunter V5 makes me not want to play it. I liked the "vibe" in Sabers/Guns as well with how you play as a nobleman out to make his career, and the more courtly drama of Lords too, and I suppose the game goes for Parliament of Knives which is similar in that sense. But really I'm pretty open to anything as long as it's got a proper story progression. I don't care too much about romance but it's nice when it's there. I liked the thing with the countess in Lords even though I'll have to wait probably as long as the actual characters in universe to see that whole thing get resolved. Winning over a high class lady is always cook

The necromancer's tale

It a bit of a slow crawl at first, the combat is shit and whatever engine they are using is shit, like we talking eurojank level of shit engine but the goal of the game is to become a necromancer, a lich and you can kill most people you meet, as you going to need to get bodies from somewhere

Would you rather play a game with absolutely no romance interests? I would really say that if you were to skip an RPG genre convention like that you'd need some exemplary writing. Even some of the games considered to be some of the best, like Planescape, had two romance choices. Some didn't, granted. Just seems harder to move away from now, on top of other people being coomers.

I'm not against romance, and I'm not gonna pretend I haven't partaken in my fair share of best girl conversations across dozens of games, but it does feel quite forced at points. Like sometimes you see a character or a dialogue option and it's "Here's your state-mandated romance option"

I think it's kind of funny they've become a staple of the genre given it's something I feel people tend to avoid in tabletop RPGs.
>>
I don't really enjoy IF "romance". "ROs" have almost always felt like a burden, filler, to me. Existing merely as a complication and interruption to the greater story, and not an actual contribution to the MC's life other than a relationship meter that rewards the MC with highly truncated, abbreviated, and unsatisfying implied sex for managing it properly.
>>
>>3898167
I like the push and pull with fitzie and the uperhand stat reflecting how lax you might be with her (its me I always have like -10 uperhand because I can't say no to fitzer)

>its me I always have like -10 uperhand because I can't say no to fitzer

>>
>>3898089
Fair point anon, fair point. I do think at some point RO's kind of filter into state-mandated sympathy pet or a wild gremlin that incidentally got written to get gooned over. Sometimes, like in the case of dispatch, it's written with romance in mind like something from Eva and you actually get something more natural. Ultimately, it's all going to be dev approved, though I suppose the feeling is alleviated when it's well written.
>>3898167
Some are just inoffensive coom bait there for you to feel like your character is in the world rather than to feel like you're actually developing a relationship. Some sex scenes are alright, I've read better smut but I've also read worse smut.

dispatch was an okay flick of a game, theres not a ton of substantial depth (it is a telltale type game after all) but it was flashy and entertaining enough for when I played through it that I wouldn't mind playing it again to turn my brain off and watch aaron paul be a moral saint redeeming a bunch of youtuber voice acted villains. it could have been more interesting if the heros with powers where corrupt/the buisness angle was pushed more, like only helping people that signed up for their hero protection service, and have that clash with robert being a normal human dude who was a paragon vigilante before he signed up for the corporate hero office job so they'd fix his suit. the blonde chick felt too perfect, phenomaman was kinda a dick when first introduced but just becomes depressed when the blonde chick dumps him for the rest of the game. its got a tinge of satarizing the genre with the tutorial for the dispatch minigame and the advert phenomaman was in but it doesn't go full venture bros with it. Is the Phoenix program a corporation trying to find a new avenue of income by employing the absolute dregs of society to cut costs or is it like a court ruling community service and these villians where faced with this or indefinite imprisonment? we don't get a real explanation for why these guys signed up in the first place, what changed with flambae that made him suddenly want to start from the bottom and work for the good guys?

I agree with this assessment, but honestly it's best not to think too deeply about it. This is, refreshingly mind you, not a deep lore type of game and you're just supposed to experience the plot and the premise as is. At least until season 2 ruined everything.
>Why is Flambae suddenly trying to be a real hero

Fox was based because instead of saying that a villain should get egotistical over his villainy, he should just accept he's a crook and move on rather than mope over some grand plan. He was legitimately a psychopath pretending to be a normal person, so he was immune to getting ducked. Essentially he was just a repudiation of Duck's goals and it's funny to see Duck making everything worse for the 2nd time. KoDP is easily one of the best CYOAs and a loveletter to both fantasy and cultural studies. Six Ages is also a worthy sequel despite being inferior in certain aspects, and it ends in a pretty high note with LGO too (the entire endgame is an extended version, and also the origin, of the Elmal Guards the Stead quest from the original game).

Now
>>
>>3897156
There's a fair amount of games inspired by GoT, too many perhaps. The real problem is that your average author doesn't knows enough about the middle ages to understand dynastic politicking and imitate GRRM, let alone create a game that is both respectful to the player's intelligence and the setting it's trying to imitate. Most examples are, indeed, otome nightmares that drink more from highschool dramas than either GoT or its medieval inspirations, making a ton of wrong assumptions in the process.

I've been playing way of the samurai 3 recently and its pretty gud, its got a lot of different endings, with the premise having 2 warring factions with a village stuck in the middle, and you can do anything ranging from protecting the villagers, siding with one side or another, double crossing a side, killing one of the faction leaders for his mistress (who is now your mistress) killing everyone important and leaving, killing every single npc and the final boss for another ending where your character becomes a folk demonic legend due to the fact he killed literally everyone. gear, skills and money all transfer over to a new game if you use a save at the end of one so its open to a lot of experimentation, and some weapon you can only get by killing major story figures and taking it from them. if you kill 1,000 people (theres a method to speed it up by killing a villager and then speaking to the mission giver, they will always give you a mission to fight 100 dudes so do that 10 times) you can title your weapon as bloodthirsty and earn a massive permanent attack bonus. I would reccomend it

The only problem is, the game was shit and the guy was just autistic for Hunter. So it's not impossible for H5 with Numina supplements to be used for a Changeling or Mage game. The main issue of course is that a majority of CoG WoD game authors are just in it for the money/contract and aren't actually autistic about the setting the same way the Out for Blood and Kyle are.

MC is much more of a rival to Jack than the other way around with how his deep rooted motivation to improve is because he can't actually beat you, where as your motivation is trying to survive + keep your family alive with the top 5 being just obstacles on the way to the top. I'm reserving my judgement for chapter 9, but I'm also of opinion that john auraclash doesn't really have a rival character.

>Reverend Insanity
Been hearing how Reverend Insanity is the apex of Chinese novels for years and finally got into it. I've read up till chapter 250 which is the part with gender bender which I felt like was some kinda fetish/fan sevice but it just feels unnecessary for this kinda novels atmosphere instead of just traveling with him as a male.

First of all I really can't see where that special thing that makes people worship it, sure the world building is definitely top notch among the novels I've read specially with the Adam Eve story here and there which I really liked but for story pace? It's just straight boring and don't tell me it gets good at 500th 1000th chapter, if a book needs you to read a several hundred chapters of "setup" before it gets interesting that's just not it I'm not gonna lie. The plot so far is nothing special that I haven't seen before.

Now the most important part the mc aka Fang Yuan, I get that he is an objectively evil guy and I'm fine with it but the author tries really fucking hard to get that point across to the point it was the top reason I just can't continue it. Everytime he does the baddy bad evil stuff mc has to formulate some kind of philosophic bullshit excuse, sure first several times I liked it as it was thought provoking but when you have to do it every time you do the baddy bad I kinda feel like he's just trying to justify himself to not feel guilty even though he is supposed be an ultimate detached cold mc maybe the author couldn't think of any other thing to make him think cause social interaction is zero in this novel. Sure he will do anything for his benefits I already got it 100 chapters ago so just do the deed cause the pacing is already bad as it is. So fellow readers let me see the Mount Tai that is Reverend Insanity cause it seems like I'm a frog in the well after seeing all those worshipping for this novel
>>
>>3900417
It really starts to pick up after the he leaves the southern continent, picks up in the next arc, slows down for the rest of the arc, next comes one of the kino arcs and after Fang Yuan becomes a zombie it becomes really good.
If you don't like it read something else like A Regressor's Tale of Cultivation.

I know it's only sort of on topic but since we are talking about PoMA and AC, you guys should check out Ascend from Nine Mountains. It's in EA but there is already a lot of content. I clocked over 50 hours already and I am in the 5th realm from the currently available 6.

>I'm trying to quit
Good for you man.
At the start of the year I was spending like 3 hours a day, on average, watching, collecting and sorting through my porn.

Some days I was exhausted because I only had 3 hours sleep because I stayed up all night watching porn.

Now it's been months since I've actually gone out of my way for it. Like don't get me wrong I've seen some porn just from scrolling through media and discord groups and stuff since. I've even stopped to watch some of it but going from 3 hours a day to 30 seconds a week is a pretty good improvement.

I still think "I've got nothing else to do today, could just spend the next 6 hours jorkin it" and stuff like that but it's been a lot easier to just, not do that? Than I thought it would be.

It's been pretty nice.

This change didn't come out of thin air though. The catalyst was getting a boyfriend. We're not even doing it like rabbits or anything. Once a week or two? Hell I haven't even jerked off since our first date. It's just been nice to have someone I look forward to spending time with.

I know it's not a solution for everyone but I didn't want to give the impression that it was a simple act of will to just go cold turkey one day.

Anyway man I hope you manage to find a solution that works for you. You'll thank yourself once you do.

Now that the dust has settled and the sun has set on 2025. Was there a single good CYOA/IF released in 2025?

Orckino and though Unsupervised wasn't finishes it was properly a game and did have plot points and lore people wanted to be involved in.
>>

Hoboslop, on the other hand, was an unpleasant one.
>>

Star Crystal Warriors was high key underrated
>>
>>3901810

I do like Glenkildove for what it was. Very much your average H5 experience for what your character can get done in a semi-known paranormal mystery. I suppose straight up ignoring W5 and W20 is fine in the context of a hunter-centric game. I just wish H5 had potential for grander game types without the game shitting on you for being a jobber .
>>
>>3901810
I hope the next Hunter game, the Hollywood one. I'm fairly certain we're only getting Hunter and Vampire games for the foreseeable future sadly as far as WoD is concerned. I'm sure there's other games that aren't licensed though.
>>
>>3901743
I think I only played Glenkidove. I got Wang's hunter game but it didn't click with me immediately as Glenkidove did
>>
>anons did not like wang’s hoboslop
it was pretty kino, y'all are just haters
>>
>>3902337
Low effort, no love or soul in it.
>>
>>3902337
Playing as a Canadian hobo feels like some sort of Jewish fetishism for being a beaten down man, frankly. I also just don't think it does the Hunter thing particularly well compared to getting your own group of related and somewhat friendly schizophrenics the way Glenkildove does. The party dynamics sort of help the game feel less lonely and the prologue chapter in Glenkildove where you go from your current mystery to a backstory for the mystery with all your friends RIP Simon, based faggot is very kino. Wang could never. I also think Vampires are just overdone, they're in every one of these game and don't even get me started on Thinbloods.
>>
>>3902337
>how DARE YOU demand quality!
Next time tell your pet chinkoid to write a decent piece if he doesn't want to be shat on. Or refuse the commission if he can't even be bothered to give the minimum care and respect for the franchise he works on.
>>
>>3902337
wang doesn't really care about the setting and it shows. the vamps read more like a metaphor for the man TM and faux college intellectual revolutionaries respectively. the hobos are grass roots communes or something idk, protection rackets are good actually because it originated from the streets and does a better job than those corrupt coppers trust me
>>
>>3901866
What's so good about it?
>>
>>3902575
Yeah, he never gave a shit about vampires other than the dommy mommy horseshit, which he's way too proud of.
He admitted that making a point about politics was the main point. Everything else, like telling a good story, was secondary.
Mainly because some players didn't get the "subtleties" of Lords about the "progress" and "reaction" and whatnot. He's tilting at windmills.
>>
>>3902554
>I also think Vampires are just overdone
The fuck? We've had 2 decent vampire games from 2020 to 2021 and none in the 4 years since. Vampires are UNDERDONE, they keep giving us homeless loser hunters or gay furries. There are millions of people with college degrees on this planet who hadn't started college yet when Parliament of Knives came out.

>>
>>3902622
Being a rival has nothing to do with how many times you win. You can be a rival who loses every single time, and so long as you have a "cool" rivalry, people will still like you.
>>
>>3902624
There's nothing cool about Jack.
>>
>>3902626
Which is the issue, rather than him jobbing.
>>
the best rivals are narrative foils to the protagonist
>>
>>3902631
Jack isn't really a foil, though. Sure, he's got an "opposite" situation to the Thunderfaller, but he's not really a foil.

Then again, I guess you could say it's hard to make a foil when your character can't really have a set personality.
>>
>>3902603
Let me clarify, Vampires in terms of casual explorations into VtM or antagonists is overdone. Every game since the first one has featured vampires in some way. Hell even the WtA game had three vampires and a grand total of two Fomori. You unironically spend more time in Glenkildove dealing with the Asian Vampire's machinations than with the gay furries. I don't mind actual VtM games, but I want none VtM games to be less Vamp centric.

>>
In an ideal world homosexuals wouldn't exist.
>>
>>3903371
I don’t mind the introspection too much, what annoys me is the filler
No I don’t want to read or know about that non-binary healer, or Morgana’s best friends gay fathers, there was literally no point in adding any of those characters, they add nothing to the story :/ (other than word count bloat)
>>
>>3903374
I agree that stuff feels like pure word bloat, personally a lot of the content where you get to characterize your child self feels the same to me. 2 options to not cry and bitch and moan that amount to the same thing and 3 options to cry and bitch and moan that push sliders one way or another is what I remember last I played. Kinda corny, also the dragon stuff was weird, I don't remember if there's a way of posturing towards abusing your power to enslave them.
>>
>>3903376
>I don't remember if there's a way of posturing towards abusing your power to enslave them.
i'm not sure if it was with morgana or your dragon teacher, but you can be open to the idea of mentally enslaving them if only to further your own goals
>>
>>3903378

On an unrelated note I heard Mind Blind got an update.
>>
stop doing personality bars. start tracking the dialogue the player actually says/picks and have the other characters and the world react to that. have a tracker for how many times the player is a dickish asshole but don't show it to them/have it displayed with a vague nice to asshole meter. Cog should really set some sort of deadline for their mainline authors
I get the coding takes long… but almost half a decade? Just to release your game? And I’d have to wait another decade or possibly even longer for the sequel? It’s actually getting ridiculous having to wait this long for, say a 230k word long book, something has to be done about this

They technically do have some internal ones. Beyond the advance only being given out in chunks per part of the game finished, they also seem to try tardwrangling some authors. Wang was told by Jason that he's not gonna let him when he wanted to start on Lords already when he hasn't finished Hallowford yet, Choice of Rebels 2 suddenly cutting down on coverage is an obvious attempt by the CoG editors to make that bloatmaxxer to actually ship something and the magical girl game was given for another writer to finish entirely.
The main issue is that mainline authors have to be the already published ones so they usually aren't as financially pressured when they have other sources of income beyond CoG and the writing cycles are getting as bloated as the games do. Worst case scenario you get Emily Short with Platinum Package/Elite Status stuck in dev hell for a decade and them being unwilling to just cut it loose at that point.
>>
>>3905433
Isn't Lords on HG and not CoG? Shouldn't it be up to Wang, then?
>>
>>3905462
No lmao, HG doesn't actually mean no oversight. It means no free editor, no artwork support, and no 15k advance payment (which CoG authors have to pay back by getting nothing with their first 60k in sales). Multipke HG authors have commented on how CoG made then change shit. One guy wasn't even allowed to call the evil elves "Dark Elves" because that was too racist.
>>
>>3905464
Okay, thanks. It just sounds suspect, on their part, to tell him he can't write a work on HG until he finishes another work, unless he signed something. I thought HG was supposed to be for anyone, anytime? Not to mean that they are completely free of oversight. And Dark Elves... don't they usually live in dark places and are evil? You've confused and unsettled me.
>>
>>3905462
>>3905470
Wang was under contract to write the two Kendrickstone games for CoG so Jason was just making fulfil it in time.
In the end Wang had the last laugh when both of those ended up his speed writing and, coincidentally, some of his worst titles.
>>
>>3905474

Okay.

Sorry for the delay, guys. Life's been a lot, but I'm back in the writer's chair as of last November, and have been drudging away daily.

Anyways, Crawl is alive, and it has clawed its way to ~45k words. Chapter 1 is at 25k and growing. It is, right now, one full, linear run I've written to get a feel for the story. I'm expecting it's going to be double the size at release.

After that, it's monthly updates until the story is done (or I am, whichever first).

It took a lot, and I appreciate you still remembering about me. I will refrain from further posting, as I did in months before, since it reduces my productivity drastically. It also makes me feel bad to promise you stuff and not deliver.

I will also not provide any synopsis for the story, but I will give you some disjointed info about what's it about as a treat:
>world of superheroes and villains
>your superpower is a grapnel and a grudge
>prep time is a real stat
>plot armor is a known, physically quantifiable thing in the universe (you don't have it)
>honeypot can appear in ch1, and you get her POV as interlude
>you can romance a cop who tries to catch you

Thanks again, everyone. You all a dear to me, both BEElievers and haters, and I strive to deliver you the CYOA which you deserve.

Next time I'll post it going to be with a hard release date, and a synopsis. See you next month, hugs and kisses!

Besides, it's not like mediocre gamebooks selling better than even the more popular CoG by the sheer virtue of having some presentation isn't the case.

Last we heard iirc he's talking directly with paradox about his next project, so he's either writing directly for the Mage book or he's doing Mage (apparently, the only one he was interested in doing).
>>3905966
Likewise, I liked Glenkildove and the hollywood one seems pretty good but there's way too many hunter-centric releases, I'm aware anything but Vampire and (vigil-specifically, mind you) Hunter isn't all that popular but with an IP that has like 8 monster types it's just Hunter for 4 straight games after the 1 good werewolf game, and about 2 good vampire games before that in between a fake vampire game and two mediocre vampire games.
>>
>>3905891
How long does it take you to write 25k words? Or is it more on a problem that creative writing is hard to visualize?
>>
>>3905975
>>3905976
I love Hunter too but it's a bit much to have three different groups to write about and we get like 4 Hunter games in a row. That was an issue back when Vampire was the only thing they were really allowed to write about so I can only assume Paradox or CoG was demanding WoDslop be a certain way.
>>

It's romanceslop written by a woman so nothing is actually happening. Descriptions of the things you wear, emotional responses (are you sad, angry, indifferent, etc) for hundreds of thousands of pages. I like the reactivity if the MC is very attractive and the noble woman is the best girl.

>>
>>3905989
We can sort of hope, I'm not entirely sure what he is only that he was working and talking with Paradox about one of his next projects iirc. The default assumption is Mage (the splat he's interested in covering if he makes another WoD CoG and also his favorite) but it could be sometime in the future or plans change.
>>3905990
That's interesting, not sure how I feel about a historical after Night Road and BoHN. This IP is depressingly underserved for good content, but Kyle makes pretty good games so I'm sure it'll be alright.

Breakouts like Choice of Robots and Night Road are.
For comparison, Wang-chama said the lump sum he got for Mecha Ace was enough to let him pay off his student debt fully and stop living with his sales and the sales he would've gotten if not for that were higher still and Mecha Ace isn't even on the list.

What's the first? Part of the problem too is he just doesn't quite get massive payouts because he isn't writing an indie IP so everyone's taking a cut.
>>

Kyle E-begging by choice like most artists running around with a Patreon despite making a somewhat decent living. Money also inspires making grander projects so we get bigger delays and the artist not really making a living while they work to push out content.

>>
>>3906056
>stopped selling years ago
...Do you think games only sell on release? All the games, even the ones barely anyone plays, still have sales tickling in years if not decades after the fact. That's one of the benefits of having a big catalogue.
And even 10% off ~ a hundred thousand Night Road had is no small amount of money even without counting in the DLC and stuff.
>>
>>3906070
He's a full time writer, 100k over 6 years is very, very bad. The other game releases keep him afloat for the year they release but within 2 years these residuals do not pay rent and another is needed. Kyle does well because he keeps good releases coming but residuals will not pay his basic cost of life at all, hence him having to shill for more money elsewhere.

IFs are a very niche genre, especially those on CoG and itch. I would be surprised if non-WoD titles surpassed the 2,000 mark in sales
>>
>>3906070
>A hundred thousand
Is that accurate? I wouldn't assume more than 50-60k given a general 100:1 ratio of sales to steam reviews. Yeah at a generous 25 dollars per sale total counting the DLC this is giving him maybe around 100k + whatever money he got paid for writing it. Also, Paradox takes like a 15-30% cut as well from profits.
>>3906074
It does make me curious too, as apparently he was given the go ahead to make something a lot bigger with the werewolf game so I would assume Night Road must have actually gone pretty well, possibly more than I assume.

Fair point I just find Hunter relatively mundane. Glenkildove was fun, even if it was kind of all over the place on lore, but Vampire lets you play as a non-sociopathic bastard with a few non-sociopathic bastard friends. In Night Road, Julian and the Prince guy were both relatively not sociopathic, though this may be because they were simping for you quite hard.

>>
Everything is so shit. Stale CYOAs, stale vidya. Existence itself has become a stale chore. The world is a dilapidated stage populated by rotting corpses on puppet strings. Maybe I should write my own CYOA just for myself.
>>
>>3907140
Interesting, I wonder if slow authors or if they just couldn't be assed to develop a different type of indie game, 5 years seems to be a bit long for this type of game though I'm not very educated on the effort needed for that.
>>
>>3907455
Even a comparatively tiny CYOA is around 200k words long, which is basically 2-3 regular books. Some of the titles mentioned are well over 500k words, Fallen Hero: Retribution is 1,400k. That's more than the entire Harry Potter series combined, and that's just one book in a trilogy. Even very prolific full-time authors can manage 4k words per day, so just writing one CYOA can easily take years if you have a regular job.
And that's just putting text on paper, I don't count coding, editing, rewriting, proof-reading, etc. you need to do to actually ship the game.
>>
