Why the fuck did nobody tell me this was KINO incarnate? People only talking about bugs or open world or idpol shit made me think it was just bethesda + gta. The story is legit 10/10, and I'm going to be thinking about this game for years.

Maybe it's because I played it a bit depressed, idk. The endings, expecially the suicide ending made me respect CD projekt a lot more as writers.

V is best girl btw, didn't care for romances.

Yes yes, I get it. You enjoy Keanu Reeves and a black guy jacking off over how cool and awesome a virgin ghost terrorist possessing your body is and what kind of superweapon you can get and disarm like Elder Scrolls, but they cuss and the robot wants to rape you. So quirky.

Irregardless of that the gameplay is still GTA and Bethesda. In fact, in the new patch it's become an MMO.

I just don't think it was very fun. The updates they made to the game made it less interesting to me. Most fans see. To just use it as a method to generate cyberpunk photos. The story is generic and the world itself is more Idiocracy than Bladerunner.

+: revamped the skill system, added cool stuff to it
-: simplified and dumbed down the skill system, far more pigeonholed into basic “the devs think X and Y go together so if you’re building for X you might as well use Y” rather than more subtle a la carte mix and match builds
+: revamped the armor/clothing system, made it completely cosmetic (if you think that’s a good thing)
-: shifted modifiers that used to be found on armor/clothing and moved them to cyberware. This effectively heavily nerfed the “no cyberware” playstyle. Game has zero tradeoffs or repercussions to chroming out, devs just assume everyone will always borg out because why not
+: game greatly rationalized the really dumb and grindy random loot and crafting system, much less annoying now

Overall it’s a mixed bag, some improvements in 2.0 but also some really dumb regressions. Still didn’t address the fundamental complaint of many, limited roleplaying and basically being an RPG-adjacent action-adventure cinematic GTA clone.

That's the only thing that really chaps my ass, but it was trivially easy to level grind. It kind of shows the folly of even having an RPG/GTA mix to begin with in all honesty and I actually liked the game a lot. If it was just a game with a modifiable character with no leveling system the game would be more enjoyable. The only thing you should've needed was eddies, just like in gta

Yep. It’s a wasted opportunity. I like it when world maps have a roughly intended progression of difficulty, and it would’ve been trivial to use different gangs and enemies in different areas to accomplish this. The lowbie areas have random disorganized hoodlums with shit gear and little to no cyberware, with appropriately degrading and simple missions for you, moving up through more organized and well equipped gangbangers with some chrome and tactics and gear, and late game areas featuring corpo security teams with resources and money, and top tier gangs with heavy cyberware. These would have the most detailed and lucrative missions.
Instead, lol everything everywhere is exactly the same so what’s even the fucking difference or the point. Absolutely asinine on the part of the devs.
Level scaling has never been good in any game, ever, and nobody ever wants it. Just a failure of imagination.

The whole story structure would need to change to accommodate this, but it seems like cdpr wanted a more mainstream audience with a more obvious hook to get into the story. Instead of just being some random gangoon who gets access to Keanu Chungus through some other means, ou gotta have that big act 1 heist that a low level retard could do for some fucking reason. The whole structure of Act 1 kind of fucks up the rest of the game in some way but I did like the gigs and stuff. It seems very GTA to me, so overall the experience is pretty alright.

I was OK with 1.0's "OK, this section of the city is level 1-10, this one is 10-20, this one is 20-30, etc", even if it could've been better. Gave you a rough path you were expected to work your way through the city.
Just leaving it alone for a couple years and then "btw we level scaled the entire world lol. Go anywhere and do anything!" in a patch seems insane to me.

Level scaling sucks. It instantly dooms a game to mid at best. CP2077 is a mid game. Like production values are good, but equipment and skill trees are only decent, and no essence/humanity stat is anti-cyberpunk in the first place. No real origin differences blows.

There are just multiple missed opportunities in CP2077 that could have made it amazing but they settled for mid. I don't know if this was truly a feature of wasting dev budget and time on Keanu but it sure felt that way.

this game is absolute garbage, its a collection of call of duty levels stitched together with an ugly shallow neon overworld and 80's references that zoomers don't understand. the leveling is retarded and doesn't actually change gameplay, just numbers, all the weapons play the same, all the NPC's looks identical which has been a major problem since launch, driving feels awful, the missions are stupid, and the story is absolutely retarded no matter which path you choose. this was the last game i ever bought because i felt so ripped off, now i pirate everything.

It has some problems. Like, the premise is that you're going to die in a matter of days, so you can't really take the story seriously or you'll miss most of the content.
Mission rewards feel basically meaningless compared to the money you get from selling guns dropped by enemies, which combined with some writing quirks makes money feel altogether meaningless.
There's a shitton of weapons, but very few of them have a strong identity. You usually just pick a weapon class, and then use whatever has the biggest numbers. This makes weapons feel uninteresting, compared to shooters with a smaller arsenal, where just finding "the shotgun" can be a notable moment.
Also, someone had the bright idea to "balance" weapons for their DPS, meaning that faster shooting guns like assault rifles do much less damage than slow pistols. Fucking why.
V as a character is in an awkward position where he's not really interesting as a character, but also not a blank slate. V has opinions, you can sometimes hear how he feels in how he says his lines, but they're the most bland milquetoast opinions imaginable. Half the cast is made of larger-than-life archetypes, and V isn't in that half. But he's still enough of a character to get in the way. It's not like Deus Ex, where the delivery is so deadpan that you can ignore everything JC is saying and come up with your own motives, but also not like GTA 4, where Nico has an actual role to play besides being the designated protagonist.

I still think it's pretty good overall though. The game has redeeming features. Honestly it's probably the best Deus Ex style RPG after Deus Ex. It's just not GREAT, and I think it could have been, with only moderate changes.

If you're gonna say Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, I'll concede that it's better as an RPG, but I'd argue it's in a distinctly different style. More focused on talking and choices and consequences, where Deus Ex was primarily a shooter with some talky bits.

No mission takes more than a single day to complete if you think about it. What's that strange about doing five gig at the same day to gain money and loot to help in going after the cure if they only take 1 hr in game each? It's a little strange in-universe to participate in 10 different shootouts in a day but that's easily explained by you being in a rush and not caring about consequences because you're a madlad and because you're going to die.

Well, the strangest part is probably that the story isn't framed that way, since it's the obvious way to justify going after the non-mandatory missions. You could have a moment in game where you're told to gather a massive sum of money for some fixer, and that'll be your cue to tackle the side content. You don't have a moment like that. Rogue asks for payment once, but it's a pittance. If you've been looting enemies and haven't squandered your money on new clothes, you probably have it already. And none of the missions even let you ask what you're getting paid ahead of time, like the dialogue is all a placeholder while playtesters figure out what an appropriate reward would be. Not that that's an easy question, when money is basically unnecessary.
Like, it's good that you're able to do mental gymnastics to better enjoy the game, but that shouldn't be necessary. It's the game developer'sjob to come up with a reason for why V is spending one of his four remaining days alive sheltering from a sandstorm with some nomads he just met earlier the same day. If I'm supposed to think that the payment or the contacts will somehow be necessary in the future, then this should be acknowledged in game. V should mention it when talking to the nomads, or perhaps to Johnny. Ideally there would also be some justification for why V would think that, like an actual need for money, or foreshadowing about the tower assault.

It is kino. That’s the problem. Been that way for the last 20+ years. Too many devs want to make movies, and it comes at the expense of making a game. The more movie-like, the less game-like.
