It's that time of year again. Was the negative backlash deserved or overdone? Through the various updates and changes post-release - has YIIK redeemed itself? And most importantly - What the hell is going on?
>>3900167The game is a fart in the wind.
>>3900167>>3900170I think people like to ignore that this is basically the giant whose shoulders E33 is standing on top of
>>3900170Nope, you just hate it because it's indie and gives off woke vibes. You just want "muh chad protagonist".
>>3900175Alex is the chad white male protagonist that doesn't care about other people's feelings thoughbeit
>>3900178You know how 4fags attribute everything to looks thoughThey don't care about muh character analysis (unless it's the popular ones)
>>3900170Much like all of us.
>>3900175Is it well respected, well reviewed, a hit with the masses, a cult hit or held up as a great gem of the genre? Is anyone outside the random occasional thread on 4chan ever discussing this?Did it ever hold the attention of the world beyond the release window?I know the answer to all of he above is 'no', but I am curious how you will try to argue the opposite. Are you the standard contrarian shitposter or one of the dozen who care about the game somehow?
>>3900171I wish more people remember YIIK when they copy E33 in the future, so that they can figure out that the shitty attack minigames aren't actually that enjoyable
>>3900171Shut your stupid fucking mouth.
>>3900192>Is it well respectedNope>well reviewedNot really, but also not that bad either>a hit with the massesDefinitely not mainstream>a cult hit yes>held up as a great gem of the genre?it's pretty unique, aesthetically and thematically. Gameplay is a bit so-so>I know the answer to all of he above is 'no', but I am curious how you will try to argue the opposite.Well sorry your pointless assumption was not true.>Are you the standard contrarian shitposter or one of the dozen who care about the game somehow? Why are you asking this? Why do you care so much about my opinion? My point is that brushing something off "as a fart in the wind" without any arguments other than "it's not mainstream enough" is the reason I replied to that poster.
>>3900245>>>a cult hit >yesno as no one actually talks a bout it or likes it
>>3900246Just a quick google search would do, or maybe "lurk moar" would suffice
>>3900252Nope, because you are wrong and the game is bad. Faggot should have cited Wild ARMS 2 on the first release, instead of hiding the primary gameplay inspiration.
>>3900167Yiik redeemed itself as soon as there was a youtube poop of a running shine review.
>>3900258>Nope, because you are wrong and the game is badresorted to toddler insults.
>>3900167It was deserved because the dev doubled down on insulting the critics, both inside game and outside the game
>>3900170A shake, a vibration with motion.
>>3900167No. YIIK is the ultimate game for midwits, the kind of person that wants an 'obscure' game without willing to dig, or a 'smart' game that doesn't require you to think. It tries so hard to be postmodern and fails. When you dig beyond the surface the game is completely hollow and anyone that actually likes the game can't tell you jack shit about it.I've had the displeasure of interacting with fans and trying to discuss whatever the fuck the game is trying to do (and failing at), but the fans like the idea of having played the game while simultaneously not even thinking about it.
>>3900167In retrospect the hate was overblown. It basically proved the majority of people who shat on it are posers similar to people who hop on hate bandwagons to shit on woke/"sexist" vidya when they weren't going to play it anyway, and the remainder, myself included, took the game's story at face value and thought the gameplay sucked. It threw everyone for a loop, but first impressions ARE everything and I feel the devs fumbled on it a bit. Had they spent more time with animating visual cues to indicate something's amiss in the story and Alex's narration, then maybe the game's story wouldn't have been shat on as much. The more important details and depth to Alex's character were in the Mind Dungeon and the web forum, which were both tedious/boring and seems to be the content everyone missed/ignored the most. The context clues to Alex being an unreliable narrator and a narcissistic, insecure, lazy, traumatized faggot making up excuses to go on a schizo rabbit hole adventure were subtle enough to the point that a lot of people, me included, saw more as bad writing, which even some e-celebs (Dingdong and Julian on Oneyplays, RunningShine/Mallow) caught, but weren't able to piece together that it was intentional. >Alex remarking how Sammy's face was unrecognizable when he first met her>Sammy's name being mispronounced multiple times throughout the game>Alex saying his parallel self cucked Vella out of her reality and then E-2000 just going right along with it when she never said it was him or even hinted that it was him>Alex's personified "faults" were cooked up excuses besides the pretentious oneThe thing that frustrates me the most about all of this is YiiK "fans". Nothing but memetic irony poised faggots pretending like they enjoy the game, let alone even played it outside of it being passive entertainment for them to gossip about. They share a lot in common with SH2fags and Mouthwashing trannies, which is VERY fucking telling.
>>3900464> the ultimate game for midwits, the kind of person that wants an 'obscure' game without willing to dig, or a 'smart' game that doesn't require you to think. Uhh you missed Disco Elysium by a couple threads buddy
>>3900464Sounds like you never played it.Don't bother responding, I don't engage with pretentious twats such as you.
>>3900471See, this is exactly what I mean. YIIK fans literally cannot engage with the material of their own game, they always have to compare themselves to other games. I don't give a single solitary shit about Disco Elysium.>>3900473Describe 'Original Win' to me.
>>3900464>It tries so hard to be postmodern and fails.Give a comparison and argument if you want to make such baseless claim.I am not a diehard lover of this game but seeing this kind of superiority complex without any reason is always sickening.
>>3900473>>3900535Cry about it, shitposting bad faither.
>>3900548You are the one shitposting?
>>3900552I don't know. >>3900473 and >>3900535 are defending YUK in some capacity, making them the shitposters by default
>>3900738Sorry but in this case you are the shitposter. They were asking in good faith instead of your attempt to tell everyone this game is bad with no proper reasoning.
>>3900470tldr
>>3900481>they always have to compare themselves to other gameshow can you even measure your game quality without a comparison

>>3900765>good faithWhen defending YUK?
>>3900795So one isn't allowed to defend a game from bad faith arguments by shitposters who mindlessly hate on it?
>>3900738It's the same ESL poster being insecure ironic shitposter.
>>3900167I haven't played it, is it any fun? I know next to nothing about the game beyond the fact it exists, not even the genre
>>3900838Its not about fun
>>3900838Its a cringe schizo game but its so cringe and so schizo it manages to actually be unintentionally good at times.
>>3900175It's woke dude.>>3900245>It's a cult hitIf the developers mother says she likes it it's not a cult hit. It has to gain popularity after it's release to be considered a cult hit. System Shock is a cult hit, it performed badly on initial release but people are still playing it today. Nobody is playing Yik. The people who are posting that they're Yiking out aren't playing Yik.
>>3900929Nobody is playing System Shock today.>t. played it
>>3900947The opposite of that. System Shock is really good, so people play it. People will continue to play it. There are 155 people playing System shock, a game from the 90s that wasn't even released on steam until 2015, and only 7 people playing YIIK. System shock has had people playing at roughly these rates since the 90s.
>>3900953>System shock has had people playing at roughly these rates since the 90s.I would wager that the rates of people playing System Shock were, in fact, much higher in the 90s.>t. played it, in the 90s
>>3900167No one is buying your game, Brian.
>>3900799If you don't have an opinion then stop being a nigger and stay out of the discussion.
>>3900838It’s better than it was before. The combat is a lot less shit which helpsYou still have to deal with/enjoy the game using 60 words where 3 would do essentially every time someone talks, but I guess that’s part of the charm
The room of RPGs
>>3901058That’s silent hill 4
>>3900964You don't have an opinion to begin with, gtfo.
>>3900828>triggered by someone not being grammatically correctThere are worse things to be triggered upon, like posting in this board.
>>3901371>triggered uponESL sis…Not like this…
Undertale was accepted because the surface level game is good even if at the end it just exists to prop up the deconstruction/meta commentary/whatever on the medium.Shit like YiiK fails because it's just commentary.
>>3902088Undertale was accepted because it made for lots of gay furry porn and had Homestuck support for it to push off from
>>3901482Fell for the bait
>>3900769trust the science
>>3902274For me, it's 1.5. Safe and effective.
>>3900929>If the developers mother says she likes it it's not a cult hit.Sawwatudidthar. The devs' mom actually died midway through development, which actually caused them to change the game. This being said, I agree YIIK fans have a cult structure. The devs play nice, but they allow psychomen, namely hellkrai, who intimidate children by claiming to have been raped. I've had fans outright tell me they'd never understand the game at all if it weren't for hellkrai shitting out video essays. In that case, having an enigmantic game essentially spoonfed to players by an enigmatic freak is definitely a cult.I bought YIIK 4 times on release. There are parts I like about it. I like the 1.V update. I'm not going to say I get it or would recommend it. It just has enough earnest moments and hand-made content that you can glitch it in a lot of fun ways.
>>3900960Was Brian the one who wilted when even reddit called him out on self-adverts? I suspected it would've been Andrew.
I really wish you trash factories wouldn't obsess and meme over absolute garbage.
>>3902357Yiik is a masterpiece
>>3902357there are way too many bethesda threads on this board, true. It's because they appeal to midwits - like call of duty or fifa.
>>3902398>appeal to midwits - like call of duty or fifa. You retards don't understand what a normal distribution is or what the 'midwit meme' refers to, you just use 'midwit' as shorthand for 'person whose opinions I dislike and disagree with'.Call of duty and sports games aren't targeted at midwits, they're targeted at retards, the lowest-common denominator. Mass market slop, coming out on schedule every Christmas for parents to buy their teenagers. 85-90 IQ. Games like BG3, New Vegas, and Disco Elysium are targetted at midwits. The over-educated and under-informed, internet communist, "male feminist", Black Lives Matter donating, I heckin' love science archetype. 97 to 102 IQ.
>>3900953and no one is playing the flop in your pic THAT KILLED IT'S STUDIO
>>3902484You are just a solipsist who hated everything, why would anyone care about your opinion?
>>3900167The backlash was kinda overdone but yiik originally felt like a rough draft. Yiik iv however did make it my favore rpg in my life. I still think its a required taste but i say give it a shot if its on sale.
>>3902955>>3903071Because that was worth the bump.

>>3900170>I close my eyes, heavy darkness spreading before me like the coming of a night sky filled with black tar. It's only for a moment, just an imperceptibly fleeting moment of time, and then, much like my father, the momen is gone. All my dreams, the happy and mysterious ones and all the nightmares, pass before my eyes with curiosity not unlike that of a cat. Perhaps a cat with a Salvador Dali mustache. And it's the same old song, every minue of every day. A drop of water in an endless ocean, an ocean vast and deep, whose depths we're unable to fathom. It reminds me that all we do crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see; blinded by our own arrogance and naive hope for immortality.>But you can't hang on, struggling in vain like a monkey on a branch over a raging river. Because nothing lasts forever, except for possibly the earth and the sky. But even that's not true because it feels as if all will be consumed by entropy eventually. It all slips away and in the end, even the richest man alive will have to admit to defeat as his money won't buy him another minute.>Farts in the wind. All we are, are farts in the wind.
whats YIIK? ive always heard of it
>>3904587an indie RPG made by a fool that has a self insert main character that sucked but the creator is one of those "they don't get TRUE ART!" pricks
>>3904587It's the no man's sky of rpgs. It had an interesting premise but completely tanked its reputation on release thanks to questionable writing choices and annoying gameplay. But it has steadily been improving itself since then. The writing has been improved, a lot more content has been added to it, and the combat system which used to be bad mariorpg/E33 turn based but with minigame qte's has been completely changed. It's still not going to be for everyone. Alex, the guy with the beard and the main protagonist, is not a likeable character, especially from the start. It tries to be a bit too artsy sometimes, and there's a lot of space for the player's interpretation what's going on (It is "A post-modern RPG" afterall), though they've made it a little bit more clear with the updates over time. It is at the very least interesting enough to take a look at imo
>>3904705>It's the no man's sky of rpgs.except NMS eventually became a good game because the dev actually listened to criticism and Feedback.YUK is still a mess even after all of these "fixes"
>>3900929Don't tell me you still believe that's a photo of the developer, do you?
>>3904801not him but even if that isn't the developer of YUK, Alex still acts like the dev.For fucks sake, Alex unironically defends another shit game by the dev
>>3904804>Alex still acts like the dev who I know nothing about and thought was a different person 5 seconds ago>because he references the last game the dev madebro are you okay
>>3904805considering I am not defending this game, unlike >>3904801, yes
>>3904796>except NMS eventually became a good gameIt fucking didn't because the core of what the gameplay actually is (Minecraft in Space but with less actual creativity) is utter dogshit. A polished turd is still a turd.
>>3904705seems cool ill check it out if i can run it
>>3905154>samefaggingnice try
>>3900167That smug orange prick does it for me every time. Ugh... Reinstalling.
>>3904945Nah. It's a pure exploration game and is really good now.

>>3904614>self insert main characternot true
>>3900470You're making what I've coined as the Connect-the-Dots Fallacy. Basically you're looking at a pile of shit, but you noticed that it's designed and internally consistent pile of shit, so you're assuming that this means that it's actually good. The problem is that the game and story are still really retarded and shitty even if you point out that people are making mistakes with the story points that aren't plotholes after all. In fact, the fact that so many people are walking away from this story with these bad assumptions sort of proves its poorly written, even if you go back and prove that it was technically correct all along. The fact that it can't really showcase this to the people playing is in and of itself a problem.
>>3911803No I agree that it's bad on all fronts, intentional or not. Even learning about the details myself years later I was like, "Oh. Ok. Too bad the GAMEPLAY and pacing fucking sucked and I'm never touching it again."The brothers treated this like somesuper deep movie, where you have to play it a few times to pick up on the subtleties, but like I said, the game's frustrating to play and pacing tough to get through that even the payoff by the end isn't worth it.
>>3900171E33 is a YIIK-like
>>3900202>legend of dragoon>barkley shut up and jam>super mario rpg which is surprisingly not dogshitnah you're wrong>press x to cutsceneis low bar, I still love ff5 for the job system and solid story but you're just fucking wrong
>>3900202>E33>Yakuza: Like A Dragon>Sea of ShartTruth nvke.>Press x to interrupt your gameSeems like an easy thing to deduce, but shitty devs seem to forget it.I like Paper Mario but you're just right
>>3900167Does anyone have a DDL for v1.0 or pre-v1.25? Apparently, even the "Original Edit" option changes the monologues, and I'd like to play the game as close as possible to the original release. Thanks.
>>3905815but the exploration is shit. Its very premise is implemented poorly. It's not a good game, at all.
>>3900167Y2K I.V is a very good game, but Y2K is a religious experience.
