I heard this was a fantastic entry to start this series on, but is it worth stomaching the shitty AI upscaling for the new content in the remaster or should I just emulate the original?
Anyway, I suppose this can also serve as a general purpose Romancing SaGa thread.

I would never touch this. Play Rs2 and 3.

>shitty AI upscaling
?
Also Minstrel Song is not only one of the best games in the entire series but it has literally the perfect Remaster (You can set event rank speed, the UI is a million times better, new recruitable characters and really fitting extra content as well as added NG+ options that are customizable) there is ZERO reason to play the original over this remaster and ZERO reason to avoid quite possibly the best game in the series

The upscaling is pretty evident on a lot of the textures. It's not the worst upscale job, but I find it distasteful whenever a company calls a simple upscale job a "remaster."
That said, is the new content really that worth grabbing it over emulating the OG? I've also heard mixed things about how level scaling works in the remaster as opposed to the original.

Any particular reason? I'd heard that Minstrel Song specifically was a good point of entry for anyone on the fence about getting into the series.

NTA and I haven't played RS3 yet, but I constantly bounced off games I tried out from this series, including Minstrel Song, until I played RS2. That game feels the most "straightforward" in the series. The RS2 remake, as much as I liked it, especially feels like the creators are desperate to get new fans with how much they help the player.

... from who?

People who say
>Start with the first game
Will tell you to play SaGa 1 on Game Boy.

>Start with a game that's most like other RPGs
Would tell you to play SaGa 3 (GB) or SaGa Frontier 2 since those two have the most rigidity in progression and higher narrative focus.

>Start the same way "I" started
Are going to tell you to either play a Game Boy game or SaGa Frontier 1

>Start with the "best" one for higher odds of you liking it
Are going to say Romancing SaGa 2 or 3

Bandwagoners (and everyone not listed above) are going to tell you to play Revenge of the Seven because of both recency bias, and because it's a remake of RS2 which as pointed out above is considered one of the best ones

It's overcorrecting on how obtuse the original was.
>>

>Will tell you to play SaGa 1 on Game Boy

who does this? most fans recommend RS3 since it's very straight forward and production values are fairly high for a SNES era RPG

Who is Saya?

The line literally above the one you quoted tells you who.
Don't act like there isn't a contingent of people who say to play all series in chronological release order
>>
>>3900982
Play an entry that interests you the most. You can just emulate the PS2 game, but it'll be different from the remaster since you can have a shorter time line like the Japanese did with their initial release. Event rank is much slower in the NA release.
>>3901076
I don't think RS3 is straight forward. You know you need to defeat the four demon lords, but really only one will be obvious. After that you have to figure out what to do with the foggy mountain, you'll stumble into Aunas' temple rather it being intentional, and have to figure out where and how to get to Forneus. On the other hand that's most of the game so unraveling that is the satisfying part. When I think straight forward, I think the Gameboy trilogy.

I'm flying pretty blind on Romancing SaGa and have mostly been intrigued by talk of them being nonlinear and having a lot of freedom in progression.
Back in the day, this is the sort of thing I'd have probably settled for myself by reading the back of the box and going on gut instinct.

More like GOO GOO GAGA!

This isn't a Final Fantasy/Octoshart Traveler thread

MS is one of my favorite games of the franchise, but if you want a beginner-friendly Saga game, it’s RS2 RotS that you want.
>>

>Will tell you to play SaGa 1 on the GB
Do not listen to this man, play the WSC version of SaGa 1. It offers a massive QoL improvement that actually makes monsters far more viable since you can SEE what they turn into when eating meat.
>>
>>3900982
Emulating the original original or the PS2 version? In any case do whatever you want.
>>
>>3900982
I first heard about Romancing SaGa from a Hyadain song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFOw90kjf1E and after listening to the song on repeat a hundred times I bought the Minstrel Song remaster but I was disappointed because the art wasn't like in the video. I mean to play it but every time I look at it I feel a bit turned off by the art style which I think means I just need to play the original.
