Best Healer to play in the series and also has the cutest voice
>>3902218I'm playing through Vesperia for the first time right now, and I just got the arena city. I've tried the other characters, but so far the only character that is fun to play is Yuri, the rest feel incredibly janky (especially trying to hit things with Raven's bow). Am I just retarded?
>>3902250>Am I just retardedLike a little bit? Yuri's definitely the easiest to just go and jump in with. Aside from Rita I guess but like, she's almost a pure caster, she's probably the most boring out of the playable ones. Every character gets better over time as they get more stuff unlocked, but pretty much all of them are workable from the get-go, they just get better.I could see Raven taking a little bit to pick up, but he's honestly a lot less messy than other archers in the series (Woodrow/Natalia etc.) he is also the best healer you get. Karol I will admit is rough right at the beginning, but depending on your level you should be around the point in the game where he gets some of his really good arts that make him fun Reaper Knock and whatever the Spider Web's Called, so it could be a good time to try messing around with him. You can play Judith on the ground to start figuring her out, and that's serviceable if not amazing - just know that she gets exponentially better as you get more skills that let you do more nonsense in the air. For Estelle I recommend (when playing her directly) thinking of her less as a caster and more as a tanky melee. She can make herself very hard to kill/disrupt and you can go to town on enemies with her directly. You don't have Patty right at this moment iirc, but you presumably got a taste of her on the ghost ship. Patty's a delight to play, would highly recommend when she's in your party again.Repede is good at this point, if you want to try branching out he's going to be the most similar to Yuri, and that might be the easiest to go move to. I'm highly on the side of playing through Tales games as all the different characters instead of just picking one. I think it makes the games a lot more fun and it's where a lot of the depth is - Vesperia's on the better side of things because all the characters feel different from each other, and all of them are pretty fun once you get them going.
>>3902218I like Vesperia but it does a lot of shit that annoys me like having you need to craft special items in order to do basic actions like play as other characters or change your map character.
>>3902347you don't need a special item to play as other characters, it's for switching characters mid-battle. Abyss has the same thing, and you get it around the same length into each game. And the map character is almost entirely cosmetic (there's one bit where you have to be judith for an event to happen when you're trying to get into Myorzo but I think that's it). This one you get automatically too.
>>3902352>it's for switching characters mid-battle. Abyss has the same thing, and you get it around the same length into each game.Which is still annoying.>And the map character is almost entirely cosmeticIt's not cosmetic it's immersive. Being able to play as whomever you want onscreen adds to the immersion. In either instance it's just a step of annoyance that exists purely for it's own sake.
>>3902356that's not really what immersive means, but you do you I guess. Generally immersion comes about as a result of restraints, not freedoms. In this case it's pretty trivial either way.
>>3902250No, Team Symphonia games have trash gameplay. Destiny R and Rebirth are two of the early games where most characters are fun to play. Otherwise, they mage characters only are fun from Graces/Xillia forward.
>>3902356>jrpg>immersionlol
>>3902325Mikleo is so hot, between him and laphi they really tried to make me gay with the last gen.
>>3902356I agree on the immersive angle and do think being able to move around the world as different characters (and seeing NPCs react differently depending on who you are) is important, but I then also like the way Abyss and Vesperia did it where you have to work a bit for the privilege. It's simple enough in both games that only speedrunners are gonna get punished for the next 80 hours, while for everyone else it's gonna be a neat treat and weird little way to do things which is part of the appeal.
>>3902425>that only speedrunners are gonna get punished for the next 80 hoursSpeedrunners wouldn't care about cosmetics tho...? They also would not take 80 hours...
>>3902485>anon has post-long context and still believes 'speedrunner' refers to a literal speedrunner and not someone that rushes through a game from cutscene to cutscene without exploring Autist-kun...
>>3902218>best healerNatalia and Gall gruner literally exist
>>3902325Yaoi! Thank LORD.
I'm getting filtered man....
>>3902657What kind of doofus made Iria's romanization Illia in English?
Mitsukete your dream~(Re?)Started ToP Ps1 this time and its beginning is always so good. The aprite and 2D art work is gorgeous too.
>>3902661https://github.com/lifebottle/Tales-of-Innocence-RThis is where the translation is fromIllia is certainly a weird choice
>>3902218Vesperia is so fucking good it makes me sad anytime I replay it knowing tales will never see the heights of it and abyss again
vesperia and abyss aren't even top 5 tales games
Wrong
I'm about to play this for the first time
>>3902729Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Xillia 2 and Berseria
>>3902250No, and ignore the Basedperia fag's wall of text below you.
>>3902757Congrats anon, once you finish you'll appreciate the other games so much more
>>3902757The music is top notch
>>3902218pic not related
>>3902250i prefer playing as estelle because she plays more like a traditional tales protagonist than yuri and flynn is janky + absent from 90% of the game
>>3902757enjoy anon
>>3902661>>3902685Illia is a real name, Iria is chink gobbledygook
>>3902954"Ill" is aesthetically garbage especially in that font, and her name is Iria regardless of which one is real or gobbledygook."Iria" is also a real name and has more results in a google search anyways.
>>3902761Replace Symphonia with Eternia.
>>3902218Yuri! Thank goodness!
>>3903140gay
>>3902425>but I then also like the way Abyss and Vesperia did it where you have to work a bit for the privilege.it shouldn't be treated as a privilege. It should be something that makes you want to play the game more and when most of the rest of the series will allow with with a menu option out the gate doing it this way is just bizarre for no reason.
>>3903174>it shouldn't be treated as a privilegeWhy not.>It should be something that makes you want to play the game moreIt's that too.
>>3903211Anise cute and sexo!
>>3902218Every character in Vesperia was insufferable except Yuri. Estelle would be the worst if it wasn't for "I'm always angry at everything because I'm a stupid fatherless dyke"Vesperia has to be the most overrated game in the franchise.
>>3903257It has a lot of content and looks good, and you know that matters a lot to videogames. Otherwise, yeah, Vesperia's story and most of its characters (especially the villains) are among the worst in the series.Yuri carries the game hard. Judith is cool, tho.
>>3902959>her name is IriaExcept it's not. A quick google search will tell you everyone calls her Illia Animi.Weird you didn't catch that when you google searched.
>>3903265lol
>>3903267Except it is. A quick google search will tell you everyone (who matters, aka the people who made her) calls her Iria.Weird that you didn't catch that when you google searched.
>>3903282Eh, same as Cless Alvein and Cress Albane. Second is wrong and sounds awful despite appearing in official localizations (Tales has inconsistent translations anyway, like Amber Hearts in Graces and Kohaku in Hearts R). And so is "Iria".
>>3903291You're unknowingly agreeing with me. Cless is his Japanese romanization, Cress is the localized romanization. I'm saying the former is what matters, not the latter.
stg every time I start enjoying Legendia some stupid jank kills my enthusiasm. Like the game forcing you to walk all the way back out of a dungeon once you reach the end instead of just warping you to the entrance.
>>3903415It's especially brutal in the CQs since every dungeon is a retread to begin with. Salt in the wound.
Hearts R or Innocent R first. I downloaded both on my vita
>>3903527If you're definitely going to play both, do Innocence first as Hearts makes the battle system even better. If you're only going to play one for now, do Hearts.
>>3903527Can't go wrong with either one to start with. Unless you can't stand going back to an "earlier version" of the gameplay kinda person.
Is Sword Dancer one of the coolest ideas for a recurrent hidden superboss in vidya history?
>>3902218>watching a dude play Vesperia>has Estelle making making sandwiches>fails 3 times in a row>how do you fuck up a sandwich he saysI for the life of me can't find that one fucking comic that relates to this complaint cause it's that old
>>3902757The main town is top tier comfy
https://youtu.be/iGAtILfmGLstldr Int and Dex are good, Alvin and Rowan can enable degenerate stunlocking strats.
>>3903719Symphonia one is the best best design
>>3904081>generic skelly vs demon samurai Nah
>>3903174It rewards you for playing the game. If anything it makes you play more.Like man, people dislike how much is locked behind progress in Vesperia, but inversely it rewards progress like no other Tales. But at the time people were used to not being able to do much at the beginning. These days it seems like newcomers expect to be able to do all kinds of cool stuff from the getgo.
>>3903719>so much bosses>so much costumesI wish the other games had similar content to Team Symphonia titles.
>>3903719It took me way too long to realize he has Ultimatus on his back in every one of the encounters.
Arise remake when
>Have items>Healers immediately obsolete
>>3904707but like... no? And think about your GRADE sis
>>3904707Treats are way too uncommon to rely on them for party heals. If a game even has them.
>>3904225>Vesperia was the last game to actually have a decent amount of in game costume rewards What a revoltin development this is
>>3904852I never understood that scene where they try to pimp her out to someone for... something i don't remember exactly. They dress her like a fucking clown while she is basically hot as fuck in every outfit and the sexier is probably her default one. With her body she can make your dick diamond even with a coat.
>>3902250Judith has the most complicated combos you can perform I think. I remember fucking around with Raven and the kid with the big axe, there's a learning curve but I got the hang of them a bit.
Tales of hebephillia
>>3904893Most of Judith's combos dont work unless you use her artes enough to be aerial enabled and/or get enough points to unlock all of her relevant skills.Tough luck for you if you botched the Brionac quest.
Playing through Tales of Graces F right now. Just got to Ghardia Shaft. Is this place supposed to be kicking my ass this hard? Every battle at least one party member will die, but I'm also getting like 12k exp per battle. My only guesses are to grind and massively upgrade my gear but it seems such an odd spike in difficulty.
Marta is my favorite tales girl.Symphonia 2 is also a good game, one of my faves for the series
>>3906920Is symph 2 the one with the fuckable cat? I remember nutting over a neon blue \ white colored cat but i always forget the game. Fuck my memory.
>>3906926?
>>3906926>>3906927Probably meant Aqua.
>>3906927>>3906929I am at work now but it's more like the second one color coded but i could swear it was more cat-like. When ill go home i'll check.
>>3906314It takes like 3 minutes to aerial enable something though>>3904852The death of having a ton of in-game costumes just so they can sell garbage DLC is one of the worst things about new tales games
>>3906929>>3906930Yeah it was aqua, i don't know why my brain told me "cat" but fuck me i guess.>>3906927But thanks for the other cat i'll look if i find some hot stuff on him\her.
>>3906964>The death of having a ton of in-game costumes just so they can sell garbage DLC is one of the worst things about new tales gamesTell me about it.
Figured to try a shot asking here: what's the best way to play Tales of Phantasia Ps1 English patch that minimizes the freezing with spells? Playing it on a modded vita but thag still causes that and I'm reading the patch version's not even compatible with POPStarter for the Ps2. Lest to burn it into disc and try that, want to try playing it handheld before I go emulator route.
>>3907020MmmThese ones. Natalia has really nice options though if I’m being honest - all of them are hits imo
>>3907037>Cut Tear’s cleavage outfit >Give it to NataliaIts not fair
>>3907043I love the breasts on women
>>3907064today, anon wasn't a faggot
Another thank you to the guy who figured out how to assign unused costumes to other titles in the PC version, Gala Estelle or whatever we call it is killer. I forget how many are unlocked but it seems like the biggest win.
>>3907175It was kinda stupid that they didn't make that a costume in the base game. Like... they already had the outfit, why not offer it
Reminder Tales of Berseria REDeMASTER exists and its out in few weeks
>>3907358hoping for more doujins
>>3907020which tales has the best swimsuits? imo it's gotta be either symphonia or abyss
>>3907449Sex
>>3907466you missed her VA's birthday
>>3907449>Peony chooses such an indecent swimsuit for Tear she's embarrassed to wear it and goes for the spa's rental suit instead What did Abyss mean by this.
>>3907526Tear is pretty much indecent.
Best Tales of Mana system?
>>3907540Rude.>>3907547My childhood says TP, my adulthood probably prefers AC.
>>3907559But that's the truth.
>>3907358berseria had fucking awful swimsuitsfuck that game it just sucks on all fronts
>>3907578counterargument
>>3907559Still don't know why they ditched it first for a worse Graces system and now with the Berseria/Arise cubes
>>3907547Innocence R and Hearts R.
>>3907547Litterally fucking everything that are not the gay cockblocking no fun allowed crystals of bers\zest.
>>3907547how do you get the Fujishima art on the Battle Status icons in Abyss? I've seen screenshots of it a million times but never actually figured out how to do it >>3907540I wonder if the swimsuit she gets in the mobages is supposed to be the actual one she rejected
>>3907662
>>3907657Zest is fine. Bers is a different system that’s massively worse
>>3907662>how do you get the Fujishima art on the Battle Status icons in Abyss? I've seen screenshots of it a million times but never actually figured out how to do it They are pre-release screenshots from before they had the battle icons finished
>>3907703Didn't also zest have the five\six crystals to do attacks and then wait to refill them?
>>3908122Nope, game let's you string four attacks/Artes together, and if you want to continue stringing Artes with the same character, you either use armatization or one the character needs a stack 4 Skill (Ekseed).Even with those two, you still need SC to keep attacking, tho.
>>3907547Destiny 2 did a good job with giving characters SP & TP regen stats that could be buffed with equips and titles. It was the first game to deviate from the classic TP system, and it's unique in how it pushes a hybrid playstyle where melee characters can back up and cast spells when they run out of SP and vice versa.I'd like to say just CC with no TP is best, but it also feels very wrong for a Tales game to not have orange gels. TP-recovery cooking recipes also help to make cooking feel more essential.
>>3906964>It takes like 3 minutesYou need 200 uses to aerial enable an arte and some of them are hilariously expensive relative to Judy's tiny pool. Its far longer than that especially on NG.
