How come people go insane about Final Fantasy switching from turn-based to action, but no one complains about Yakuza switching from action to turn-based? the combat in Yakuza has become objectively worse
>>3904920>objectively worseStopped reading here.
>>3904920I complain about it because it (and the subsequently shittier writing) caused me to drop the series.
>>3904920Every single Yakuza game is the same shit, so who cares. They've been making the same game over and over for 20 years.
No one played the unc yakuzas
>>3904920When 95% of your time is spent watching cutscenes it doesn't really matter what the trivial amount of gameplay is.
Yakuza was awesome when I booted up zero and LAD and thought I was getting like an actual game about yakauza. Then a couple hours in I realize the cool parts are just setup for the soap opera nonsense bullshit and I feel sad. I want a an actual yakuza themed game from start to finish. Its legit misleading
>>3904932>stopped reading here. You mean at the end of the post?
>>3904932LAD's combat isn't very good, though. It mostly comes down to dealing damage with your fighters and healing with your healers. There aren't any interesting abilities to play with like most RPGs.
>>3904932It's true, lost its charm, starting latest with iw.>>3904920Plenty complained and iw nearly flopped.
>>3904920>no one complains about Yakuza switching from action to turn-basedA hell of a lot of people complained.>>3904932Yakuza 7 is quite literally baby's first JRPG mechanically. Zero depth and mingboggingly easy.
>>3905343Like every ff. Do feel free to name a few technically advanced tb rpg that are really difficult to beat.
>>3905344You would just look up guides that tell you exactly how to beat every boss then complain that they're too easy too.
>>3905415Ff or lad? Lad was easy on legend, and I didn't look up any guides. I always play random builds, lad is still easy. You literally can't fail. I wouldn't know any ff that was difficult. Maybe the last boss of ff9, but after getting a few levels he was relatively easy, too. I'm saying level based tb games are easy, if the level isn't limited early or the system having diminishing returns. If they have the latter two mentioned, it just pigeonholes you to certain builds. If you like, it's hard figuring out the builds alone. One might say so, sure. Playing other people's build is among the lamest things to do, but each to their own.
>>3905200>It mostly comes down to dealing damage with your fighters and healing with your healers. What RPG is this not the case? You could argue support spells like haste/shell, but those aren't really ever needed. Pretty much every RPG you just spam the same 2 moves on every enemy for 99% of the game.
>>3905446Grandia has knockback/cancel system, Last Story is largely centered around provoke, lots of rpgs have elemental or status tactics, mario/clair obscur has parry/dodge, there are lots of rpgs with deeper mechanics than LaD, come on. LaD has even more simplified mechanics than the dragon quest games it's parodying
>>3905704Honestly, it's for the better they went with a simple system. They expanded it in iw.
>>3904932He's 100% correct. On top of it being easy the fights themselves feel like they take forever. The world is still designed for Yakuza combat encounters. Maybe it's better in Infinite Wealth, I don't know, but in 7 it was tedious.
>>3905344>technically advancedYou don't even need that, something like FFX is already miles more complicated and difficult than LAD. Game is baby-tier piss easy in every single facet of its gameplay.
My least favorite part of LaD combat?AoE attacks that have specific range while you cannot actually position characters
>>3905768Ff had a fun system, especially for that time it came out.
>>3904920I got mad over it. I've been a fan of the series for over a decade. I finished 5 and 6 to make sure I was prepared for 7. Bought 7 even though it looked bad then played it for 20 hours and haven't touched it since. It really sucked. Then they did it again with 8. The bastards. I got sent a customer survey by Sega and added a rant about how much 7 sucked at the end of it.Combining rpg turn based battles with Yakuza is like Christian Rock. it's Not making Christianity or rock and roll any better. It's making both genres worse. What's more is that there's no and to the amount of turn-based RPGs even if classic series are changing form - however, action brawlers like Yakuza with Strong character development and cleverly placed RPG elements are pretty much non-existent outside of the Yakuza series. I feel like Yakuza 7 stole something good from the world and left a couple shadows in its wake. It's kind of a sick joke that they have Kiryu in hospital dying of cancer In 8. Because 7 and 8 are a cancer on the series. People new to Yakuza praising these developments are the icing on the cake.I've had to make do with the man who erased his name, the Ishin remaster and Pirates in Hawaii none of which are too terrible but all of which are probably half the size of a regular Yakuza game And apparently nowhere near as big as seven or eight. All that said, Final Fantasy turning into dark souls with stranger in paradise was an all around bad move. I haven't played 16 yet, and found 15's combat to be mid but the 7 remakes combat is decent once you learn to constantly switch characters and mash attack to build ATB even if it's still kind of a slog.
>>3905803SoP and 16's combat is genuinely more fun than LaD 7 and 8, at least with an action game you have to actually try to make the combat compelling to some degree or it shows much more noticably. Turn-based you can hide it a bit with goofy attacks and summons
>>3904920I think more and more people are on the cusp of realizing that turn-based combat kind of sucksclair obscur is being praised for introducing action elements, and LaD keeps having to go back to action stuff (Gaiden, Pirate) to keep itself relevantmaybe soon we will be able to admit as a society that turn-based came about due to system limitations, and there's no reason to keep doing it outside of the niche crowd that likes dogshit like octopath
>>3905875>maybe soon we will be able to admit as a society that turn-based came about due to system limitationsReminder that action JRPGs predate turn based ones
>>3904920the combat was a lot more fun in infinite wealth but yeah it sucks ass in lad
>>3905875>clair obscur is being praised for introducing action elementsThat game is already forgotten. Even the shills stopped posting on it on /vrpg/. Persona 5 massively outsold is and has been much more relevant. So relevant even the Clair Obscur devs ripped off a lot of things from it, except poorly.Turn based works fine if done well, just like any combat system.
It's fucking insulting to include Stranger of Paradise in the same breath as fucking Final Fantasy.
Imagine being the glownigger so worthless you are assigned to shit up /vrpg/ of all things.
>>3904920Because it was a huge improvement. Yakuza consistently has always had horrendous combat that neither successfully creates a simple 3D beat-em-up, or an engaging character action game. You just chug potions and spam one move over and over while the bosses have super armor and do the exact same. Changing the gameplay to being good was shockingly a smart idea.
>>3905963>You just chug potions and spam one move over and overSounds like you just suck ass. Let me guess, you call Y3 Blockuza?
>>3905963>Yakuza consistently has always had horrendous combat I'm guessing you don't use tiger drops like at all then.
I think 7 Remake/Rebirth and Like a Dragon are both fun, so no issue with either.
>>3905948SOP is the most fun I've had with a FF game since the PS2.
>>3905948>>3905984it's a really fun game, it's just the story and characters are kind of weaknot even entirely their fault since they were trying to make a prequel to a game with bare bones story
>>3905784This mostly gets addressed in Infinite Wealth. You have a finite range to move characters during their turn, directional attacks into other enemies/party members, and just improved and less rage-inducing AoE attacks in general. If anything it's an over-correction, and AoE is basically all you want to do until you get down to the bosses themselves.
>>3904920it's only one game, faggot. Calm down.
>>3904920big pet peeve i had with this game was when you get Eri she's just not in any of the cutscenes or anything despite being with you. feels lazy to not just have the cutscenes change based on whether or not she's there
>>3904932Nobody likes the new system.
>>3904920because they still make action yakuza games
