>There are two factions
>One is extremely prejudiced, and the other maintains the status quo despite its many flaws
>The tutorial dungeon gets you to side with one of the factions, determining whether your character is good or evil

Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim are pretty much the same game

Fuck sake, I only just started browsing it after getting sick of every other corner of this website over the last 15 years. I swear this always happens, I find a new board, get interested, and everyone says its glory days are over - move on

posters whining about how the boards have gotten worse is an established part of board culture since day one, you will live to see people talking about 2020's as the "better days"
the only difference here is the very specific way a handful of shitposters are permanently mindbroken; someone disliked the game that is their autistic obsession and thus they have since dedicated themselves to shitposting in every thread not about the three games they like, when you know this they are very easy to spot because of their permanegativity
if you want good content on your board how about contributing to it too

Skyrim does fuckall to convince you to join the Empire considering the fucks wanted to execute you for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and write you off as a Stormcloak Supporter
>>
>>3916328
>Skyrim does fuckall to convince you to join the Empire
Umm but the Stormcloaks are heckin’ racist Nazis
>>
>>3916328
Also throughout the first dungeon and during several other ocassions you will stumble upon empire or empire sanctioned torture dungeons. You can even wittness a live torture going on and especially during the empire introduction you will meet the imperial torturer who happily tells you that the young guy lying dead in a cage across the room screamed for weeks after they snatched him for no reason and brought him there simply because the torture wanted someone to play with.
So you are given the choice to side with moustache twirling sadists who randomly abduct people from the streets to murder them in week long torture sessions and wanted to execute you for being near a criminal or the guys whose greatest fault it is not letting literal demon worshoppers with british accents, said sadist villains or their friends take over their native homeland and make the rules there for no apparent reason.c

>>
>Stormcloak Downsides
They're RACIST (see: like everyone else in TES) against Elves. They aren't any more racist than the likes of the Dunmer or the Argonians. Non-nords hold many high profile and high influence positions in the city.

There's literally just a refugee slum (because of a massive sudden influx of refugees) and Argonians don't come into the city, because fucking obviously these two races that hate each other would tear one another apart.
>Empire Downsides
Tried to kill you for no reason, not even ruled by Septims anymore, endless examples of the Empire declining/falling then being reborn throughout history but they demand you defend it to the death.

Stormcloak vs Empire is a meme argument. Correct answer is:
>dragonborn nord kills alduin
>and the thalmor
>and the empire
>skyrim becomes the launchpad for mankind's next age
>>
>>3916376
>listing something that isn't a downside as a downside for the Stormcloaks
>>
>>3916378
That's my point, the worst anyone can really say about the Stormcloaks 99% of the time is
>they're RAYCIST

The other thing they roll out is
>muh thalmor asset
because of a page that says "Skyrim being in a civil war works for us. We can't contact Ulfric. Probably bad. As long as he doesn't win, all good"

and as if that somehow makes him more of a liability than the Empire which is openly and actively implementing Thalmor policies. Anyone who thinks there is even an "Empire vs Stormcloak debate" has failed a litmus test that decides who is or isn't a drooling retard
>>
>>3916376
An actual, non-meme in-lore interpretation of those arguments:
>They're RACIST
As you yourself point out they are not racist enough.

>Tried to kill you for no reason
Based.
>not even ruled by Septims
Based.
>endless examples of the Empire declining/falling then being reborn throughout history
Based.

>they demand you defend it to the death.
You don't get it.
>dragonborn nord kills alduin
You don't get it.
>and the thalmor
Correct.
>and the empire
Correct.
>skyrim becomes the launchpad for mankind's next age
You do realize that it actually means "and Skyrim", right?

You can't see the Path.
>>
>>3916328
Sounds like a lorelet issue to me.
>>
every bethesda game would be better if the main quest just didnt exist
>>
>>3916369

You might be retarded.
>>
>>3920800
he means when you escape helgen there is a choice to escape with an Imperial or a Stormcloak.

Most people didn't realize there was a choice o a scene where the two people would argue with each other
>>
>>3919678
The main quest is there to give you some sense of direction and progress should you need it. You can ignore it for endless hours.

And since I don't feel like making a new thread, I just started playing NV for the first time ever (kinda late to the party, am I?). Still too early to passjudgement on the game. So far I've been skulking around Goodsprings.
The combat is a bit more janky than I'd like to and damage seems pretty inconsistent. So far loving the western-ish vibes of the setting. Mostly trying to build a gunslinger type character with focus on guns (obviously), repair and lockpicking. Pretty basic, I guess. Got the wacky wasteland perk for the extra content. Playing the ultimate edition which gives you a ton of extra gear at the beginning of the game for no reason.
>>
>>3922119
>Playing the ultimate edition which gives you a ton of extra gear at the beginning of the game for no reason.
Sawyer loves making a really balanced game.
>>
>>3922119
Go for New Vegas to kill Benny and get his gun. There's also a sheriff's gear in the 2nd town near Goodsprings that'd fit a gunslinger build. For companions I'd pick the robotic dog or the flying robot
>>
>>3922122
I guess that's nice for veteran players who want to seep things up a bit on their nth replay, but do they really need it? Well, at least I didn't have to rely on that shitty bolt-action rifle Sandy gave me.

>>3922149
Jotted down, thanks.
>>
>>3922185
You really should drop all the gear the game gave you. Should have just disabled all dlc to be honest
>>
>>3922201
>Should have just disabled all dlc to be honest
It’s been really sad to watch games over the last 30 years to go from awesome expansion packs you really wanted to get, to being nickel and dimed for DLC and going along with it reluctantly, to having DLC bloatmaxxing actively making games worse, and disabling them / rolling back to old patches making the games overall better.
>>
>>3916376
Stormcloak real flaw isn "Let's win an uprising against the Empire knowing if we lose, any race who decided to defy the Empire will get a butt fucking by the Elves and the Empire, but mainly the Elves but fuck elves I know you hate them too!"
>>
>>3922579
What did he mean by this
>>
>>3922580
No Dunmer and Argonians wants to get fucked by the Altmer by siding with the Stormcloaks and they get their shit kicked in by the Dominion
>>
>>3922581
>the Stormcloaks are 100% correct because all non-Nords in Skyrim are collectively a subversive fifth column that will never identify with their host population, exclusively adhere to their own separate racial interests, and will willingly collaborate with the natives' enemies out of self-preservation
Voluminous if veracious.
>>
>>3922581
Which means they need to most urgently fuck off and that its absolutely justified to shit on them whenever a nord pleases to do so.
>>
I've never seen a single credible argument for why the Imperial soldiers should have spared your character at the start of the game.

>>3922201

How do the dlcs negatively impact the game?

So far, not bad but not great either. Combat is janky as fuck. Some enemies absorb bullets like sponges, others die in a single shot. Talking about tge same type of enemies.
Quests intermingle in a very organic way with different ways to solve them. Reputation among factions does actually affect the game to some degree. Overall pretty good. Feels like the game is promising something, time will tell if it delivers.
>>
>>3922998
Only about the initial gear. The DLCs are all done separately from the main story and require a certain level

>>
>>3923393

where? You make it seem like there was a squad of Thalmor about to break Ulfric free but Alduin happened
>>
>>3923424
Watch the cutscene in the start again, anon.
>>
>>3923425
yeah, one is there to watch Ulfric get executed because >>3916387 states "the Civil War is bad for us (the Thalmor)" so him getting executed is a good thing for them
>>
>>3923427
I guess they just wrote a random diary saying they wanted him to weaken the empire for giggles or something.
>>
>>3923428
Just because the Thalmor are taking advantage of a weak Empire doesn't mean they are siding with the Stormcloaks. The document says they will win either way
>>
>>3923429
Which is why they want Ulfric to be alive. So he can keep fighting the Empire. So they are weakened.

It's kind of a failing that you don't encounter any Stormcloak torture dungeons. TES may not be directly mimicking a specific historical period, but state-sanctioned torture was kind of a fact of life in most cultures across much of human history until relatively recently.
>>
>>3925594
>It's kind of a failing that you don't encounter any Stormcloak torture dungeons.

The Dunmer and Argonians don't like the Dominions any more than the Stormcloaks and Nords. But this isn't their home so fuck fighting for it unless they want to be crushed by the Dominion when the Stormcloaks win against the Empire but lose against the Dominion

There are some more similarities.
>both games released at the start of the 2010's
>both games start with the player character nearly getting killed
>one faction is roman-themed, while the other faction fights under a banner of a bear
>the games are power fantasies where the player character becomes a living legend

>>3916328
I think people who played earlier TES games were more inclined to side with the empire since the protagonists of the previous games were all imperial agents, but without that bit of lore knowledge, the empire seems needlessly antagonistic at the start of Skyrim.
>>
>>3928789
You are a Talos Worshipper and the the Dunmer and Argonians living there are worshipping Daedra. Guess what will the high elves do to you? Cut you down like the heretic you are>>3928752
