The top RPGs in 1995, according to one local Babbages store.
>>
Why did you think this was worth making a thread about?
>>
>>3914458
Because it is an interesting and revealing snapshot of a past era.

And also because sharing old Usenet posts is fun. Feel free to share your own.

Interesting? Sure. Revealing? No.
Besides I already saw this on /vr/.
>>
I'd be more interested on the Japanese side of things. Considering how few RPGs were released in the US, we all know what's going to be on the list.
It's like saying "Destiny of an Emperor was in the top 10 best RPGs on NES!" well yeah, considering about 10 were released at best.

True. Seeing Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter on there is funny though. Plus Zelda near the top, from back when people calling it an RPG was pretty common.
>>
>>3914447
Secret of Mana was that popular?

I guess not-turn-based combat was that much more enjoyable for people.

>back when people calling it an RPG was pretty common
You really have nothing to say do you? Just recycle the same memes.
>>
>>3914470
Yeah Secret of Mana was pretty big
>>3914471
Not saying they were correct, just saying it happened and it wasn't a shock to see it called an RPG (even if it was always disputed)
>>
>>3914447
Good choices. Surprised SoM beat FF3/6 and CT but not bad anyway.
>>
>>3914470
It was also 2 players
>>

3

my local blockbuster had 4-5 copies, and they were always rented out.
>>

He must've loved Tifa.
>>
>>3914470

Secret of Mana probably won because it was multiplayer. That was pretty wild at the time. I had played a lot of RPG's, and there was just nothing else like it (in the states).

I don't even remember Babbage's selling console games? Thought they were mostly PC games.

Some things never change

They sold console games too

Hmm. Maybe I'm thinking of Egghead Software? We lived in a rural area that didn't have either, so only saw them on rare trips.
>>
>>3914736
Might be Software Etc.
>>
>>3914665
Why hasn't any one made a good 2-player co-op rpg since SoM? I still love playing SoM for that reason alone.
>>
>>3915006
Borderlands and Dead Island.

>Why hasn't any one made a good 2-player co-op rpg since SoM?
Diablo 1
Diablo 2
Baldur's Gate 1 or 2. You could play with only two characters and get overleveled, or split control and do two or three chars each
NWN1
DOS2, lone wolf duo
>>
>>3915006
Baldurs Gate 3
>>
>>3915011
He said good.
>>
>>3915012
Yeah
