Post artwork you have used for custom portraits in CRPGs. AI slop welcome only if it's actually high quality character-focused art you really used or want to use. Try to mention which game(s) you used the art in, or hope to use it in.Starting things off with some Icewind Dale portraits that I've used since I have the full artwork for most of those.
This guy actually ended up being a great paladin in one of my first few IWDEE runs.
Wizard art. I think this guy is from a Magic The Gathering card but I don't actually play.
In generating some AI slop lately, I've found these types of dynamic poses and open-mouthed facial expressions are incredibly difficult to gen even with the more advanced ones. Makes me appreciate this type of art a lot more.Gotta have a cleric in IWD. So many undead.
I believe this is a cleric of Kelemvor.
So many of the female voice packs in IWD/BG/TOEE/etc. sound very middle-aged but I find it's harder to find as much fantasy art of slightly older women.

>>3917230I used to color-shift artwork I found like this a lot to get just what I wanted. I think the red version was the original.
I could never tell if this was actually artwork of Link from Zelda or just a generic elf archer. Or if this was a man or woman lol.
>>3917205Downloaded some random AI portrait replacer pack for BG1-2 long ago. Most pictures are meh, but I think it really paid justice to Aerie and Keldorn. I used Montaron's, but the generator didn't handle belts correctly.

>>3917230>>3917236Pretty sure I found all these by looking up WoW elf art because there is a shitload of it out there compared to other types of elves.
Another very Icewind Dale appropriate character.
>>3917257I really like the painting style here (impressionist?) because it blends in really well with the existing portraits in most CRPGs. A lot of stuff I find is slightly too sharp or "anime" styled so it sticks out a bit unless the whole party has custom portraits.
>>3917205>AI slop welcome only ifStopped reading here
>>3917275Don't attempt to derail the thread into anti/pro-AI shitflinging. This isn't a sloppa thread, but people have been using those things to gen custom character portraits for a while now and it's probably the main use case for em anyway. I'm curious to see if anyone has actually turned out stuff they liked and actually used lately. Everything I've posted so far is from before AI was a thing.

>>3917209>I don't actually playWe know.
>>3917304I actually have a deck someone gave me once. I just can't stomach the smell of card nights at the FLGS.
How often do people actually use half-orcs?
I can never play a RPG using old man portrait, how do you explain being some old wizard at level 1 with 0 spells ? It just doesn't work, any RPG should limit the portrait to teen up to young adult for human obviously typical long lived or beast race can be whatever.
>>3917381Maybe he started late? You do get 40-year-olds going to college.
>>3917271i wouldn't call it impressionism, from the impressionist artists whose work ive seen they seem to veer further away from realism than that. it looks a more like figures in transcendentalist paintings, or like frazetta style fantasy+ with more clothing.
>>3917381I tend to agree unless the wizard joins already leveled up some. I think something like this a good age for a wizard though.
What genAIs do you guys use to generate the images? And what do you put into prompt to not get that ugly shine/plastic look?I tend to go for Perchance, but it takes too many tries to end up with something decent.
>>3917542Perchance is fast, unlimited, and free, but imprecise. It doesn't handle prompt details well and produces a lot of sloppy stuff. I found visualgpt.io works way better and can handle lengthy detailed prompts, taking slightly longer to run but still fast. It only lets you gen 2 images per day though unless you just clear the site data from your browser and reload the page because it doesn't track you any other wayI imagine genning locally with whatever visualgpt is doing would be the best. I've never bothered trying to set any of that stuff up because I literally only have used it for my OC donut steel portraits like this. I put>The style is watercolor, with a slightly realistic fantasy art aesthetic.so that it doesn't do that shiny digital-art look. Pic related, cleric of St. Cuthbert for use in ToEE.
>>3917271That's not at all what impressionism looked like. A lot of impressionist painting was playing with light and color by using bigger strokes and complementary contrasts. They were exploring visual perception and didn't care about realistic imitation in painting. Or in more vidya-adjacent terms, you could say it's kind of similar to techniques like image dithering or color quantization. I am curious what made you call this impressionist?
>>3917381Unless the narrative specifically mentions you being young/upstart/inexperienced/whatever, it's easy. It's kinda weird in BG1, but less so in ToEE
>>3917381>how do you explain being some old wizard at level 1 with 0 spellseasy, that's how they were in the original DnD. It took a lifetime of study to be a level 1 wizard.Nowadays settings have wizard schools where you can cast a 40ft diameter explosion after 4~ years.

>>3917205Contributing>>3917381You could imagine he's out of practice and he's picking it or relearning what he once knew or something
I like using some of Jun Suemi's art although it might be too anime for some
>>3918271>I am curious what made you call this impressionist?I was talking about the elf guy, not the fighter chick I posted, if that was unclear. The elf guy has those kind of messier big painting strokes, and I just don't know what to call it. I googled "impressionist paintings" and a lot of them seem to resemble what I was talking about when they feature people, but I'm not really knowledgable about art history. I'd love to know what it's called though.
>>3917314Me, half-orcs were the "marginalized outsider" who were prejudged for their heritage before tieflings. Post 4e tieflings are all sexy devils though so they took over in popularity versus the ugly half-orc (or the 3.5 and earlier tieflings which could look all sorts of fucked up.) My next playthrough of Baldur's Gate will be as a Half-orc fighter/thief

>>3917314My first D&D 3E character was a Half-Orc Fighter who always wore a Helmet so the rest of the party wouldn't find out he was a Half-Orc.Our party also had a Dwarf Ranger who really hated Orcs. When my character got his Helmet knocked off during a fight the Dwarf actually finished him off.
Cool thread idea
Aside from the shitty hand, I really like Akira toriyamas style, even if it doesn't fit in most crpgs.
