This is a 9/10 game if you can get past all the system bloat, over designed ui, menu fatigue, mechanical darwinism, micromanagement heavy feature creep, there's actually a great game underneath it all with a passable story and amazing vanillaware art. A pity it's basically unplayable unless you have Ritalin on hand.
>>
>>3925793
Just say you have down syndrome my guy. The game was good and not particularly hard on normal if you were an autist and went to dragon land first.
Easiest platinum of my life, and and something I replay each year.
>>
Cognitive overload for an autobattler.
Genuinely retarded.
>>
>>3925859
>>3925882
Maybe you are illiterate but OP never said it's particularly hard or super challenging or difficult in terms of skill, rather that it's bloated upon bloated with systems upon systems upon systems.
>>
>>3925890
no, anon, you need to learn how to read. OP called it unplayable unless you have Ritalin at hand which is insane for something as brainless as this game.
>>
>>3926498
Ritalin makes dry and tedious content very interesting and easy to absorb.
>>
>>3925793
>mechanical darwinism
what did xe mean by this
>>
What the opposite of this case called, I need a game with more systems. Everything’s too fucking basic.
>>
if i see more than one or two menus in a game I uninstall it and delete it
>>
>>3927059
It's called having an IQ above room temperature without ADHD.
>>
>>3928046
overly complex systems and menus aren't gameplay and aren't difficult, they are just tedious timesinks like excessive excels sheets
>>
>>3928070
Just take Ritalin, bro.
Games aren't excel sheets, systems are part of games, leisure is inherently a timesink, complexity is relative to the user, and difficulty isn't the point of play.
>>
>>3928087
difficulty is content and overcoming difficulty is fun gameplay, system & menu creep is gay, games shouldn't be bloated with excel sheets, constant info dumps and tutorials.
>>
I get what the OP is saying, they could've streamlind Unicorn Overlord a lot more and made it more intuitive but then it would be less unique. Also not a fan of the idle-combat style.
>>
>>3928093
Nah. Playing with things is fun.
>>
>>3928103
playing is fun when there is risk involved, when you can game over or lose something. Fiddling with menus and listening to NPCs info dumps isn't fun.
>>
>>3928104
Nah, playing with things is fun. RPGs are fun.

>>3928105
rpgs are fun when they aren't bogged down with rpg systems.

It's okay to not like RPGs. Just funny that you post here.

>rpgs are fun when they aren't bogged down with rpg systems.
Yup, retarded.
>>
>>3925793
this is almost an idle game, difficultywise and mechanicswise. only in the highest difficulty you need to think a bit. It's such a simple game, it's best played in short bursts.
Story is almost non existant, it's the classic rear-ended story dump 95% of Japanese games suffer from. It has very good waifus, though. But that's expected from Vanilla Ware.
Good game overall, but not really complicated or hard. You must be quite dim
>>
>>3928182
I know the game is easy and basically plays itself, and the story is shit, the only saving grace is the art. OP mentioned this.

The issue is that the idle-braindead game is full of menu and system bloat, you have to fiddle with so much unit bullshit, feels like im playing a farming game not a tactical rpg.
>>
>>3928186
> basically plays itself,
>you have to fiddle with so much unit bullshit
Yup,retarded.
>>
>>3928199
That's not gameplay
>>
>>3928224
Interacting with systems and menus isn't gameplay for a rpg? Bro, you are really doubling down on the retardation.
Just play cod or shmups.
>>
>>3928224
Yes, it is. In the case of Unicorn Overlord, that's the real meat of the gameplay. Gameplay is not a synonym for combat.
>>
>>3928253
Actions that have no risk and no fail state aren't game play. You don't get a game over while fiddling with menus/systems the wrong way, you don't lose anything, nothing happens.
>>
I don't like how every fan of this game constantly shove it to everyone who wants a tactics rpg in the likes of FFT. This is a different game
>>
>>3925793
Also I don't agree it's a 9/10 game. More like a 7.5/10
Lack of a good story, memorable characters, and chock full of filler activities really hurt it alot
If you love gambits this might be your dream game though
>>
>>3928186
>feels like im playing a farming game not a tactical rpg
That's a good way of putting it
>>
I'm playing through this right now. I was playing on expert about a year ago, got to the eastern desert kingdom and got distracted with something else and now continuing a year later kek. Gonna lower the difficulty until I remember what the units do, I don't want it to be too easy but also don't want to keep reloading right after getting back to it.
>>
>>3928584
Also I don't agree with the ui criticism. I thought it's pretty well thought out, the glossary has hyperlinks which is super helpful and while there are a lot of mechanics that aren't incredible on their own, they do make for a pretty engaging experience. I enjoyed the datesim parts of fire emblem and so far have enjoyed them here as well.

Also I find the design itself of the ui just cute and neat
>>
i just dont like rpgs that overload you with tutorials and info dumps right at the start. I just want to play the damn game not study a textbook of how-to's
>>
>>3928467
>Actions that have no risk and no fail state aren't game play
Only arcade games fit your definition of gameplay then? Again, what are you doing at a rpg board?

I'm an arcadeChad and I have a 2 week holiday. I installed some jrpgs to see if the genre can be redeemed, so far it's not looking good!! I'll be making more threads this week and next week. Keep an eye out

"anyone is capable"
Can't complete a simple autobattler.
ArcadeCHUD indeed.
>>
>>3928692
Cope
>>
>>3928792
Spend more money on lives chud. We know you have to pay to win.
>>
>>3928689
this is an incredible self-own.
your life is so empty you are going to play games you don't like and make threads about them while on vacation.
brother, start loving yourself.
>>
>>3928825
>>3928817
Thanks for the concern but I can manage my time well.

>Play games you don't like
Going to test games I haven't played before.

But continue to cope and seethe for my entertainment:)

>>3928817
1cc is the only way
>>
>>3928986
anon, the whole endeavor you are describing is built on coping with your lack of interesting things to do with your spare time and seething about games you don't like and trying to spread that to other people. so you need to believe that you are bothering someone with this nonsense, to justify it.
start loving yourself, don't exist to spite others. you don't have to be this pathetic.
>>
>>3928998
All wrong, I actually found a jarpig I like using this method, its thread is still up. Go find it Sherlock.

I'm going to keep posting truth nukes no matter how much you cry and seethe :)
I have 2 weeks off at home I'm not traveling anywhere lol
>>
>>3929000
i'm trying to help you love yourself man. i don't even play jrpgs anymore, so this isn't a case of fanboy butthurt. you're simply being pathetic.
>>
>>3929000
That is just sad.
>>
>>3929013
You're creepy for sure

>>3925793
it was mostly hyped up by youtubers and casuals, the intrusive tutorial dump at the start is a smokescreen to a pretty simple auto-battler as others said
>>
>>3925793
Just started this game. Doesn't seem like there's much system overload yet, it's just Fire Emblem crossed with Rance.

Just hit rank D and got my 4th unit, don't know if it's gonna get a lot more complicated

Anything I really need to know?
>>
>>3929861
It's Ogre Battle you hack
>>
>>3929861
If you want it to be challenging you need to put it on the hardest difficulty. Otherwise it's pretty easy to just bully your way through with one OP unit. And like >>3929991 said it's Ogre Battle.
>>
>>3929861
>Anything I really need to know?
Recruit everyone, spare everyone.
>>
>>3930079
So far it seems like one or two units per stage can really sweep up if you're even half paying attention to formations and classes

Still only a few hours in but I can already tell witches and thieves are going to be OP as fuck.
>>
>>3931104
Yeah I've played Fire Emblem, I know anyone that can be spared or talked to is going to be recruitable
>>
>>3931493
Honestly I don't remember either of those classes being particularly OP. Rogues were solid dodge tanks at first and good debuffers but I remember them being more of a liability mid-late game. I assume the witches you're talking about are Druids rather than Sorceresses, and yeah Druids are awesome. You still need some real damage dealing but damn they're good.
