What do you guys think of Dungeon Rats?I have mixed feelings about it given that it's essentially a combat only game without nearly enough depth in it's combat mechanics to justify it's existence. It knowledge checks you more than any other cRPG that I've played. Tactics and strategy can only take you so far, you really need to KNOW exactly how it's intended to be played. It made me realize that Age Of Decadence's combat system was only good when used as a cherry on top of an already interesting game. Basing an entire game (Dungeon Rats) around it exposes it's flaws.
>it's essentially a combat only game without nearly enough depth in it's combat mechanics to justify it's existence. You nailed it, there's nothing to add to this because that's essentially the core issue with Dungeon Rats, AoD combat was just a combat check to alternate between VN choices but was never anything more than okay-ish at that, Dungeon Rats is just a collection of knowledge checks which isn't particularly interesting since the core combat is just too rudimentary. It very much suffers from modern puzzle-RPG design.
>>3929331I have not played it yet, but as I understand it it leans more into gameplay and combat, and story is much lighter. AoD combat autism was not fun for me, story and aesthetic is what carried it.
>>3929331It's a good game, but aimed at a niche within a niche. Think back on how many people actually enjoyed AoD's combat enough to play a game focused on it.
Its a bad game overallIt does a lot of things that appeal to me but then its balanced like slavshit garbage where quicksaves might as well be a core gameplay mechanic
