I only played the .hack//G.U. remake, and I couldn't continue past the second volume. Out of all the games I dropped, this was probably the one I loved the most. It's just so full of a certain PS2-era charm that doesn't exist anymore, and every now and then I get an itch to go give it another try.

Now, the reason I dropped it was because the gameplay loop became too excruciatingly boring, and the fact that I was overleveled all the time didn't help at all. But with the .hack//ZERO announcement I'm actually starting to consider going through the entire series, starting with the IMOQ games. Is this a wise decision, or should I just stick with the G.U. remake? Enlighten me, wise anons!

Why do retards still not understand the difference between what a remake and a remaster is?

Great thread so far.

I love the originals. Could never get into G.U., too cheesy shounen style. Each of the 4 originals used to come with a different Liminality OVA. If you play the originals, make sure you watch an OVA per game. They never could tell the "real world" story they wanted to within the game, so that's what the OVAs are. Seems they were talking about being able to do that the way they originally intended on the new zero.

They messed with the balancing in the G.U. remaster, leading to most people being overleveled and the games becoming a complete cakewalk. IMOQ has a better overall story and atmosphere, and you won't find yourself overleveled without some grinding, but at the end of the day the core gameplay is even more repetitive and barebones than G.U.. If you don't enjoy the friend simulator dungeon running at least a little bit, it might be best to just wait for the new game

Is there any way to play the original quadriligy on modern systems, or am I going to have to emulate them?
>>
>>3936271
emulate. Don't know why you would want some modern demaster port anyway, even in a straight port with no other changes they STILL managed to fuck it up >>3935145

I am about 8 hours in on Infection, and am worried about Virus Core farming. What would be the effective way of doing it while trying to keep data infection at reasonable levels?
>>
>>3938330
take 5 minutes, look at what you need and where to get it online, go get the cores. I recommend this as a way to avoid pointless timewasting testing areas.
Data infection is honestly not that big of a risk unless you're literally draining everything you fight (there is no need for that). Just kill shit

You should also look up everything to do about gruntys online, there's no point in manually trying it out. There is no joy to be had there.

That's what you need total to complete Quarantine. As long as you regularly steal its really not that big a deal.
>>
>>3938381
I've just been DD something at least once every 2-4 fights if I get a Break on something. Lately things have been dying real fast right now. But ill do a bit more research, thank you.
>>3938404
Is this all the cores needed across IMOQ or you just talking about Quarantine?
>>
>>3938531
Not him but that's how much you need across the entire quadrilogy, although most of the extras you need are going to be used in Quarantine, the other games typically only need like 2-4 cores from the previous one. Honestly even if you miss them it's not too big of a deal because there are weapons later that give you -30 attack to let you farm low level cores but obviously it's better to just get them as you're playing through the games so that you don't need to go out of your way to farm later.

I'm watching the anime before going into imoq
>>
>>3938772
That's what I did, the anime is a very very slow burn and the pacing feels off at times, but it was enjoyable in its own way. Left me with more questions than answers, hence why I jumped into IMOQ.

I wonder if Terajima Ryoko was a dev's favorite character or something. It's really funny how one of her sidequests in Outbreak gets probably the longest and most action packed cinematic cutscene in the first three games, it's really random

Just finished Infection, gonna be starting up Mutation hopefully tomorrow. Game is weird and not really a fan of the micro managing but the setting and story is keeping me compelled.
>>
>>3941265
You'll always have to micro manage unfortunately and it becomes even more necessary since elemental weaknesses get more important and the AI only likes abusing them probably 70% of the time. Also remember to watch the corresponding Liminality episode after you finish a game.
>>
>>3941290
Is there items and/or skills that can be multi-targeted for my party? Like a better La Repth for recovery or a better means to buff my party instead of one at a time? If there is better spells and/or items later id feel a bit better with the micro managing.
>>
>>3941659
There aren't any multi-target buffs but there are higher tier multi-target heals. The other characters still have to be somewhat close to the main target to get healed though. I personally never really used the buff spells, I just bought the buff items from the shop. They're instant cast with no animation unlike the spells so it doesn't take too long to apply them to everyone and it's not committal.

I generally have been buying buff items too when I felt the need but they do take up some of the inventory, so was kind of hoping there would be something to help with that. But think ill just have to suck it up and keep pressing forward through Mutation for now.
